- In this episode I will restore and repair this extremely yellowed Sega Saturn Vintage console. The console is broken. It doesn't read CD's which is common with these retro consoles due to several reasons.

So I was doing this step by step however BEWARE at 8:23 I used Soapy Water instead of Watery Soap and needless to say the whole project was ruined.
Diluted soap is even worse.
@@Chaos89P You guys forgot to beat the water white as in the recipe.
Soapy Water is not an acceptable Watery Soap substitute, however Soapy Liquid Ice is. 😉

I used room temperature ice. Did I ruin it?

LOL. Funny. But 2040? based on the timeline, we would have a PS7 by then. PS5 is still fresh. I'd guess a PS4.
Haha

😂😂😂
That if someone buys one.
Ugh, those ribbon cables always make me anxious, it feels like they are going to break just by looking at them. Excellent work man it looks as good as new.
I´ve seen black gloves with Dexter for the first time. So it always reminds me of him... He was a good guy too.
I like the way you whitening those yellowish system cases. It's pretty much new to me and I wanna learn it, it's so clever.
I really would love to see you restore a Nintendo Gamecube. It was the first console I actually owned. I really enjoy your videos because I love the way you film and edit and your videos are very informative.
Plus I mean who better to learn how to fix my old NGC than the tinkerer themselves
Honestly you should be on 10 mil, ur vids are soooo good
This thing’s 60% my childhood, nice vid
I loved that mashing of the buttons :D
I got brave and replaced the lazer for the disk reader on my PS2 slim successfuly without damaging anything. I have never taken anything electronic apart but it was actually very easy I’d imagine because there were so many of the produced
I can't wait to see a video like this for the Wii or PS3 or Nintendo DS/3DS. Wonder what it would be like.
Watery soap part always makes me feel so damn good.
I’m happy you keep ducktor clean
I've got a Sega Dreamcast that's still white and works very nicely. I was playing powerstone with my niece and her dad on it the other day. Then we played Ooga Booga, and Chu Chu Rocket, good times.
Powerstone is the greatest
Now there's a thing of beauty!!
"Can you guess what I’ll be restoring next?"
From here, probably the controller. It’s contacts looked pretty grody as well, on top of it needing the UV treatment,
POV: You left the phone on in bed playing videos and you wake up to this video.
Please restore an old, rusty steel rod next. I think that would make a great video.
Not the "watery soap" 😂😂😂
This is more "soapy water" for sure

Wow nicotine and Sonic and alcohol those were the days high ring count Now I have to watch some sonic gameplay thanks odd tinkering👍😎👍
Amazing vídeo! Congrats!
My favorite console.
Man the graphics are amazing considering how old sega saturn was. It was very hyped in it’s day to be great. They had some games lined up for it to really make it shine. One was like a chinese/ japanese version of GTA. Sadly it was a turned down project. Oh well that is life i guess lol
lmfao, i thought the thumbnail was of a gold saturn until I read the title.
Very satisfying
the ductor is here!

Yes. That joystick.
I'm somehow surprised that this guy lives in America at least according to the tagged location
I have a theory he possibly lives in Finland with all the other stuff he fixed before, the US tag is probably there as a hidden identity
Do not clean a lens with IPA, only very dilute soapy distilled water, IPA removes the lens coating....
I like the new indicator thing (for lack of a better word) I think it looks nice and points stuff out while not being completely in your face about it
Haha *I wasn't alive when this console was originally made I bet*
It’s that big!? I thought the console was smaller !
It's not very big at all, it's similar overall dimensions to PS1, but deeper, less wide, and taller. It's a good chunk bigger than the Dreamcast in every dimension though.
If you think it's big, look at how huge his hands are!
That's what she said
just look at the original Xbox and you'll see...
Looks normal console size to me
It's normally bigger but it's rather cold today.
I imagine there’s a room in this guys house with around 50 perfectly restored consoles from all eras
All of them hooked up to one TV
If there isn't, I'll be disappointed
The console was so yellowed that it looked like a golden special edition.
Same
I thought it was a gold special edition from the thumbnail. Then I realized what it really was and thought he should just go full speed ahead and turn it into a gold special edition.
Probably could've sold as that, to some sucker.
@@kayonesoft nah man if you look at it for long enough it looks yellowed, not the golden color in my opinion

Man, I'm new to your channel. The last few days I've been watching your content and I find it so calm, peaceful. It actually helps me cope with this, extremely anxious, new reality. Homeoffice, things going so fast... But when I get to see your content I can sit, relax and let time go by without worries. Watching you so meticulously restore these old electronics, in total silence, slowly, gives me some kind of inner peace I can't really describe. Thank you.
Hey dude, that sensation of inner peace and calm is ASMR. Also, ASMR can be just visual so I'm very very sure that's what you feel watching. Because it's the same for me lol. (Also hope you're doing better with the anxiety attacks, having an anxiety disorder myself I know the pain and stress :c )

Sega Saturn, a underrated 3D console. This is really cool to see!
Sega Saturn was a 2D console that did 3D, that's why.
@@khanv1ct244 And what the people forget is that SEGA is a japanese company. So of course, it was first influenced by its culture and people's behavior. The Saturn was supposed to capitalized on the growing succes of Arcade centers in Japan. Most of the games were 2D so the Saturn was initially planned as mostly a 2D system. 3D came after, because of Sony. It's because it was added to a 2D architecture that the Saturn was difficult to program for 3D games... Let's not forget that we are not talking about today's 3D too... Of course games look amazing on modern systems. mowadays, but go back to the first Playstation games and tell me what you rather play, a primitive 3D Playstation game or a beautiful 2D game on Saturn? Yep, after a war, it's easy to pick up the winner...
(Edit: Okay, 2D console with 3D capabilities. Thanks for the info! But, I'd kindly ask for you guys to stop replying the same thing over and over again. Thanks, and have a great day!)
The controller was made for fighting games which was cool
It's a 2D powerhouse really. When Sega learned of the upcoming PlayStation doing 3D they decided the Saturn had to too

[Visible Confusion]
Plot Twist
I think it's become a running gag that OT jokingly understates the severity of a console's yellowing in their subtitles
Guys, it's just sarcasm :D
Extremely yellowed plastic get powdery and flakes off so this not that bad of yellow.
Man ! At 1:48, I though he smashed the console on the table !! xD
Yeah that cut/edit threw me off
I will never get tired of watching people preserve gaming machines. Ever. In my opinion, these machines are so important. It isn't just a game console, it was very likely someone's childhood, someone's escape from the real world. Every new gaming generation is a snapshot in time; a functioning, tangible record of technological progress for the era.
Friend: "So how much have you spent on all these pristine looking consoles?"

I got a Sega Saturn from my uncle because he was going to throw it out, I actually thought it was originally yellow! 😐
Yes and the sky is originally black
*Me:* Wow it’s been a while since I’ve watched an Odd Tinkering video, thanks recommendations!
*Odd Tinkering:* (doesn’t have his IPA labeled with duct tape)
*Me:* (confused screaming)
WOW I had no idea you could even de-yellow old white electronics like this. I thought the yellow fading was permanent. Awesome!
It is permanent. This process just essentially bleaches the very outer surface for the very short term. You don't even need the UV light strips. That's just something youtubers do to make it look like some highly technical process. It's really no different than gargling with hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth. The yellowing will return very quickly unless you keep the console completely shielded from light, and even then it will yellow again within a few months at best.
@@Rowgue51 hes explained before that it makes it work quicker. 😐
If he only added it for visuals then it’s real shit looking don’t you think 🙄
@@hudz48
First off you would get the same result with just hydrogen peroxide, but decomposing the hydrogen peroxide does speed up the process significantly.
However UV light is by far the least efficient and slowest method of achieving decomposition. He's already using electricity which is by far the most efficient method of providing the energy needed for decomposition. UV light is an alternative method of providing that energy but an incredibly inefficient and slow method that has no statistically significant impact on the speed of the process when you're already using heat and/or electricity to accomplish decomposition.
It's just something companies add to their kits to make them seem more technical and more impressive; and something youtubers love to show because they think it makes them appear all "sciency". But it's such an irrelevant part of the system that it's almost purely for show.
@@Rowgue51 Nobody wants to know this.

Ah, Saturn. I remember playing Castlevania SotN on PS1 and showing it to my friend who only owned the Saturn. He nagged his parents for a very long time to buy it to him and after getting the game it turned out to be a really shitty port of the original which was obvious even for us kids.

how did you find the right position for the adjustment screw? was it just trial and error and testing it every time?
I wish I still had a Sega Saturn to this day because I missed out on a lot of good games for it. I mean, sure, the console didn't have that many Sonic the Hedgehog games, but it had tons of fighting games from Capcom, Sega, SNK, the Mortal Kombat series, Dead or Alive 1 and some other Saturn games that I never heard of. And the superior RAM cartridge that the Saturn had was the Action Replay Plus cartridge, which was a 3-things-in-1 device, meaning that it would allow you perform cheats in your Saturn games, save your Saturn's game data and break the region encoding allowing you play imported games on any Sega Saturn model of your choice, which was awesome and the Saturn was also backwards-compatible with music CDs as well.
