The Righteous Brothers were a duo, but occassionally they would sing solo. I was born two years after this performance, but I always heard it being played at home & on the radio. It's been one of my all time favorite songs since I was a young kid. It is considered to be one of the greatest love songs ever composed. It has been covered many times over by many great artists but Bobby Hatfield's version is probably the most well known & beloved the world over. It was used as the main love theme for the movie GHOST starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, & Whoopi Goldberg (she won the Academy Award for best supporting actress that year). This was definitely Bobby's song as no other can match his performance - so silky smooth & melodic, such a one of a kind ethereal voice. Keep in mind also that he did this on live TV back in 1965, years before any computer aided autotune or post production editing. This is what we call Blue Eyed Soul. My late uncle used to call this "a guaranteed panty dropper" :-) Please check out Bobby singing together with Bill on "You've lost that lovin' feeling" - another hit that has been featured in many movies, TV shows, etc. and holds the title as the most requested song of the 20th century. *side note - another talented singer from this era is Sir Tom Jones (aka The Voice). He was dubbed with that moniker decades before the competition-reality TV show of the same name. Tom is held in such high regard not only by fans, but also his peers in the music industry. Elvis Presley really admired Tom's vocal talents - such a powerful, booming, yet so melodic voice. Some of Tom's big hits that other RUclipsrs are reacting to: Delilah, I'll never fall in love again, Green green grass of home, It's not unusual, She's a lady... oh, and he did a cover of KISS (by Prince) with the band, Art of Noise, back in 1988. He's still singing strong & touring at 80 years old (his b-day is tomorrow June 7th).
Beautiful presentation and beautiful video n lovely content fantastically awesome dear tanks alot for sharing and tanks alot for stopping by highly appreciate
I was 15 years old when I watched him sing this beautiful song in 1965 on the Andy Williams show. I just had to go buy this song on 45 LP. I played it so much until it turned white. I finally brought their vinyl record albums and I still have them. Loved the Righteous Brothers. RIP Bobby! ❤❤❤❤
I am 81 and remember quite a few singers doing this but Bobby's tops them all. I was heading to Viet Nam when his version can out. I can feel the loneliness in every word. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of there albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do Unchained, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we now. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.
Remember this was a live performance on the Andy Williams show there were no do overs or auto-tone just his amazing voice and a small microphone. Bobby Hatfield owns this song no one can touch his performance it was effortless, smooth and sheer perfection. Many before and after him have done this song but no one can touch him. This version with him singing was in the movie GHOST with Demi Moore,Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg There are so many you should listen to by the both of them. You've Lost that loving feeling,Your my soul and Inspiration and You'll Never Walk Alone. Just to mention a few. Also listen to the other brother Bill Melody singing BROWN EYED WOMAN it was written just for him. Think you'll like them.
Love your reaction, to this great performance !! Bobby was a true "Countertenor" and in the last few notes he used his "head voice". He never needed to use falsetto. In this song Bobby uses 21 notes across 2-1/2 octaves. What a SINGER !! Keep up the good work !!
Bobby Hatfield suffered from severe stage fright. And this was live TV plus his parents were in the audience. Both making him ekstra nervous. And he did THIS! Yes!! Best voice in the best live TV performance EVER.
I just love his music!!! He is an amazing singer! I can tell you love his music a lot! Thank you for sharing!! Don’t forget Who Loves You Baby!🍎🍎🍎! I can see you right up there on stage singing back up!
This song takes on more meaning when understood in context...the song comes from a prison movie about a man doing time and singing to his love from prison...In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film (released in 1955).... North then asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics, but Zaret initially declined, saying he was too busy painting his house. North was able to convince him to take the job, and together they wrote "Unchained Melody."...and the rest is history...maybe the most beautifully written romantic song of all time...and as I understand Zaret did eventually get his house painted.
Babby Hatfield's version is bar none. Too many versions but nothing can compare his version....I love this song when I was teenager until now at 68yrs old. Love*3 this him.
I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped. I must have done something write because we're still together. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, we got busy on baby's when I was home. I served my Queen and Country for 34 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and Specialist Forces, and then 2 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were 16.
Awww this so romantic. Love always has the last saying. I know you did your best singing to your wife. Thanks so much for stopping by my channel. I appreciate your visit. Say hi to your wife for me.
Bobby Hatfield's live performance of Unchained Melody will never be touched. His voice is from the heavens above and he will always own this song.No one else some are good but not effortless and smooth like Bobby no comparison.
This is remarkable song, first he is singing Live. No second or third takes. No Autotune to help you sing in tune. And how he changes from one range to another . Amazing performance
CAN YOU BELIEVE A PERFORMANCE LIKE THIS FROM BOBBY HATFIELD BACK IN 1965. THIS IS WHAT WE NOW CALL "X-FACTOR PLUS". TRULY A MAN WITH A GOD GIVEN VOICE - AMEN
