  • In this video, I derived two equations for the final velocities of two objects after an elastic collision. I used the conservation of momentum and kinetic energy. I also used symmetry.

      In the green equation, he solved for v1' = v2 - v1 + v2'. Now by "substitution", he means replacing every v1' in the conservation of momentum equation with v2 - v1 + v2'. Doing that allows you to derive a formula for v2' in terms of m1, m2, v1 and v2. The same can be done for v2'
