  • FT 767 GX Repairs Part 1 and fan mod. See also part 4.
Thought someone may find my experience with this transceiver useful.
Sorry, rather long and rambling and not good quality but if you've got one that's not working maybe just the ticket.

I have never noticed a fan noise from my FT-767GX. Using a mechanics stethoscope I can hear a faint flutter when turning the Radio on, but nothing after that. Also keying the transmitter using a dummy load, I never can hear the fan spool up. Should I assume the fan is not working, or could it really be this quiet? Is there a reason you wanted to run it without the benefit of the thermistor that controls the fan based on the heat of the finals?

The fan should be audible. Without the cooling fan working the finals will heat up and reduce power . Check to see if the power output drops. Use a separate power meter.

Can't remember my reasoning on other details. The new fan was very quiet and efficient.

You could hardly hear any fan noise from my 767 until one day I tried RTTY and after a few minutes the fan burst into full speed. It was only ticking over before.

I don't have this transceiver any more and it's been a long time since I've worked on it. There's a lot of screws to take out to do just about anything to this set. You need a lot of patients and the engineers manual, which is on line. Follow it carefully!!

      Hi Gianfranco
No unfortunately I don't know. I believe it was out of an old Dell. It is the centrifugal type.
I've just done an image search and come up with this one. microdream.co.uk/dell-optiplex-gx270-gx260-gx240-desktop-cpu-heatsink-fan-9g180-7p182.html#.XqgrbmhKhQI
Note, what I have used is a striped down version. so what you see is minus the cowling which I have cut away. probably a few different ones may do the job.
