***NOTE*** It has been said that this modification only changes the display and not the actual frequency. It is said that the crystal and a few caps in the VCO has to be changed also. I will need to verify this and will re-post as of 1/18/2018
Without changing the crystal and caps, this mod will show 44X on the display but you will be transmitting and receiving on 43X. I set the display to 443.000 and it was receiving on 433.000, but transmitting at 433.600. Reversed the mod and all is back to normal. I may try something with an si5351 module if I get energetic.
We have this radio at our club station and use it on VHF most of the time. Now I know how to mod it for 430-440. Thanks Buddy and keep them coming love the videos.
Hi Buddy Just had my Ft-726r on the bench. No problems with the connectors, some leaked electrolytics though. 2 meters had intermittend recieve, mostly just off, and my 430 Mc board would not transmit at all. Both places it was the relais that was the issue. In the 2 meter module it was the relay switching between the receive and transmit in the pa unit of the module, and on the 430 Mc module it was the relay that switches the power for the mixer. So both places it's relais problems. Burnished both relais contactsets, but didn't help to much. So I had to recreate the tension in the relays, by holding the receive contact down and lightly at the same time pushing the transmit part of the relay slightly upwards, if it makes sence. I could just have ordered new relais from rfparts, but the only take a $20 minimum order, and that applies for a tax handling fee in my tax-happy country at around $25 just to handle the package *sigh* And I can't find the relais elsewhere. Any tips on relais that can substitute the original once, that could be found in europe would be great :) best regards Dennis Andersen OZ2DA
Yes those relays are starting to really tire out. I just may still have some in stock. I will check the parts bin this week end and let you know, perhaps I can find the maker in the uK for them. Thanks for sharing.
iv had 2 or 3 ft726's buddy u are right they dont stand the test of time so well but there are still allot of them about and when they were new in the mid 80's they were the only thing on the market with this modular designe to add extra bands to a radio. they were expensive back then as well. Great video as always Buddy a trip down memory lane for me. thanks my friend that was good.
Hi Gary and great to see you. I remember when these first came out. Yes high dollar at the time. Later on used one were still pricey. I have two of them here and a 736. Had a lot of fun with them and have been dragged all over the county to field day. Thanks for stopping in my friend.
Awesome, thanks. I have the 430 module and wanted 440-450, but didn't want to lose 430-440. That switch does the trick. Like stated by another, putting an external switch would be nice, if done in such a way that it doesn't look like a hack job. Thanks! btw I have a 6m module as well, and the Piexx tone board.
I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. Thought about adding a small relay inside the unit. Then either repurpose one of the lesser used buttons or add a push switch where the head phone jack is located. There are a few possibilities. Thanks for watching.
The Radio Shop You know I'm not a guy for extra holes in a radio. When I want to run wiring outside of the radio a lot of times I will sneak a piece of ribbon cable out between the bottom cover and chassis to a small project box with switches in it.
i have one of these radios for sale it was given to me a week ago from friends wife who,s husband had died,to technical for me, i will stick to my baofeng handheld, the FT-726 looks the part tho very nice if you know what your doing

Nice easy modification. Guess you could also remotely mount the reset switch and then you could then do the reset without having to pull the cover.
Very easy modification. I may look at a way to move those switches outside. Seems there was a reason I did not way back then,.

Amazing info in this video. Thanks
do you have a module for sale that does 440 to 450 for that radio the one i have does not work .
Sorry, at this time I do not have a UHF module. Those units are not to hard to work on. What is yours doing or not doing?
Do you have any idea where I could find a replacement for the 7 segment LED channel display in a Realistic TRC-435? Thanks.
I would check with Mike at mikesradiorepair.
I dont have a diode in d 21 and even if I switch the reset nothing changes
Can it be modified to 142-143mhz ?
Not that I am aware of
Have you verified the crystal change or is this enough
I just did it. It doesn't work. There must be a crystal change necessary also.
