  • In this video I'm talking about the Alpinestars SMX Plus V2 Motorcycle boots that are a mid-level sports, track-day all round bike boot. I've been using the Alpinestars SMX Plus boots for nearly a decade and the quality and comfort have always been exceptional. However Alpinestars how now released the V2 version of the SMX Plus boot range and I want to see how its changed.
    Thanks to the Essex Biker Centre for hooking me up with the Alpinestars SMX Plus Boots in black and white, check them out here: essexbikerscentre.co.uk/

    Nize review! I had the V1 waterproof version for years. Used on occasion track day and long trips with good results. I have wide feet’s, so almost all other brads are too narrow except TCX. I have a pair of coffee shop boots as well with NO protection, but those will be retired, as my uncle is struggling after ankle damage due to an accident. I have just bought a pair of TCX rt-race standard boots that will be used on track days, as my GoreTex smx plus is damp on track. Cold climate so did not want the perforated ones from TCX.
    Your feet is important, opt for protected boots!! Smx plus is perfect!!

    These are my first boots I bought.
    I tested every boot in the shop. It took me 2 hours cause I didnt want to spend that much on a boot. TCX seemed the best choice, but it felt very lose.
    Dainese were too narrow. The other brands had similiar issues.
    Nothing really nothing comes close to the SMX Plus. Fitting and comfort.
    The other boots were to small and hurt or to big and my feet move through the boot.
    The Innersocks bring such a perfect fit.
    The weakpoints are the noise when walking, its big and its difficult to hit the stand.

    You popped up on my suggestions bar because I've been looking at those boots, big brother much !! My SMX plus boots are from 1999 I think, I bought a new red/white R1 in 98, crashed it in France and got a blue one at the end of 98, so bought my blue SMX after. My boots are still good, only changing them now as back then they had a hard plastic sole and its got harder overtime and slippery. Looking at £360 a pair now, shudder at how our money has been devalued by government printing !!

    I have a pair of 2016 Supertech R and a back up pair of SVX from about the same period . Both are in almost perfect condition because I clean and condition them both. I wouldn't have any other boots, they are both a cut above the rest and fit like no other.

    Great boots for sure, but my concern is the reliability of the calf buckle adjuster, if used on a daily basis. I had a terrible experience with the buckle in Sedici Corsa. If this breaks how can I fix it? Do we get the slider as a separate part to purchase? Thanks.

    Nice review, very clear and competent.
    I think the only BIG issue of these boots is the price (I do not have issue with calf fitting cause I'm thin). They are sold as "medium level" race boots, but here in Italy their price is perfectly the same of the TCX rt race, that is a top level model... I'm looking for new boots cause I litterally opened my old model in a crash and I really like the style of the smx plus, but the price makes me doubt whether to buy them or not

    When I changed to my Dainese leathers the calf part was a lot thicker than my previous leathers and after that the zipper started to go. I have a hard time zipping them up at all.
    I still have the first version of the boot.

    • @letsreviewit8925
      @letsreviewit8925  4 года назад +1

      Hi Tim, i've always found that with Dainese, I guess it all depends on what you're used to and your size. For me the cut just didnt suit me.

      Hey Tim, I juste changed for Dainese leathers and I have the same problem with the thick calf part in my boots, have you found a brand of boots that are wider in the calf since last year ?

    • @Tim_Nilsson
      @Tim_Nilsson 2 года назад +1

      @@HellPolo666 I bought the second version of the SMX Plus.
      The zipper on my old right boot broke completely a few months after I had posted here.
      I tested a couple of different models from different brands but I couldn't find any that really fit. They were all to narrow.
      The V2 of the SMX Plus stretches more around the zipper so even though it's still a bit difficult to zip them up I've not had any issues with them slowly opening themselves.

    I would really like to know how those nylon lace-loops are holding up compared to the previous metal eyelids..
    I just got my hands on a new pair of V2s and I'm very concerned about those nylon loops ripping apart as I have to pull firmly to get these boots to fit properly.
    Whats your long-term experience? Many thx in advance :)
    PD: Is the previous model narrower? They look so in the Video..

    Same problem with the RST’s for me. Great boots but I hate them flapping open on track at 140+ 🤣 Now that lockdown is over have you had chance to use the V2’s and wondered if you had any thoughts on the differences. I’m looking at a set and can’t decide between V1 and V2, I think I prefer the colours on the V1 but obviously the V2 is the newer model... Thanks 👍

    • @letsreviewit8925
      @letsreviewit8925  4 года назад +2

      Fishter1 they feel the same on but I prefer the V1 actually. The laces don’t have the same patch to Velcro too so they have to Velcro to the side of the boot which I don’t like. The new plastic ratchet isn’t as strong and the zip failed after a week. Bad times 😒

    • @Fishter1

      Lets Review It thanks, that’s interesting to know. I think I’ll go with the V1’s then if I can find them in my size 👍

    Actually I hate these boots for the very reasons you seem to like them. Got big calves too. While they initially appeared ok for my clave size: the ratched lock changes position while riding, the backle screw fell during a ride, Zipper NEVER stayed closed, nor the velcro pad attached. The stitches have become undone on one of the boots. I also find the ankle support mediocre. The sole was definitely not grippy for the first few trackdays, but on the plus side they seem to grip after a point and last forever. Sidi vertigo corsas on the other hand: no issue with calve size, excellent grip, better ventilation, better support, but very limited sole life on racing rearsets. Both did their job well during crash tests 😁

    • @letsreviewit8925
      @letsreviewit8925  4 года назад

      Which generation were these? New or old? I have friends who swear by Sidi but i've just never found them comfortable personally - though as you say we all know theyre good thanks to MotoGP and Superbike racers.

      v2 seem to respond to most these issues with the stretch panel, but I think that's one of the weak spots of the v2. If you damage those panels in a crash repairing would seem unlikely I think
