    www.revzilla.c...
    For aggressive street riding and the look to go with it, there are few jackets out there better than the Alpinestars GP Plus R v2 Jacket. Built as the next iteration to one of the most notable lines in the Alpinestars catalog (or any other brand’s catalogs for that matter), the GP Plus R v2 Jacket has a pedigree that can be matched by few others. It also has a lot to live up to! From the finely-crafted cut to the focus on the intersection of performance and protection, the GP Plus R v2 Jacket more than answers the call. Features of the jacket include a highly durable 1.3mm leather outer shell construction, internal CE-approved armor at the shoulders and elbows, the ability to add both chest and back protection, and extensive use of advanced poly-stretch and accordion leather panels for maximum mobility.

    Love the review, purchased the first version of this jacket last year, would not upgrade to this one. Less perf, fewer pokets, (on the inside, the old one has 3 normal sized pokets plus 1 waterproof one for a total of 4), it offers about the same level of protection ( the V1 i own was upgraded to a pair of ForceField elbow and shoulder protectors. CE level 2 ), and on a very subjective note, i think the first gen jacket just looks way better. The only really good thing about this V2 version is that the V1 jacket will go down in price so i can get me another one. :)

    I just got the red/white/black non-perf version. Fantastic jacket, amazing quality and it looks just great!
    There's one thing that puzzles me though: you guys are saying in the video and in one of the comments here that the jacket would take a Nucleon kr-1i (or kr-2i) back protector. I have a Nucleon kr-2i that I use in my Gunner WP and in the Amok Air jackets, and there's absolutely no way that it'll fit in my GP Plus R V2. The pocket is waaay too small for it, like 10cm too small or so. I've been trying to squeeze it in for 10 minutes and all I did was to almost rip the pocket apart...
    Did you guys actually try to put a Nucleon kr-1/2i in it? Or is it my jacket that is faulty?
    Which other back insert protector would definitely fit then?
    Any reply would be much appreciated and helpful. Thanks!

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 лет назад +1

      Ok, let's see. What size is your Gunner, what size is your GP Plus R v2, and what size is your Nucleon? For example, a size 50 GP Plus R v2 accepts a size medium Nucleon, but a size large Gunner takes a large Nucleon. -DrewZilla

      Hi,
      Thanks for taking the time to reply.
      My Gunner and my Amok Air are both size M (european sizes) and GP Plus R v2 is size 50. The Nucleon kr-i2 is a size M. It fits perfectly in the textile jackets but there's no way it'll fit in the GP Plus R v2, though it should, as you said and also as per alpinestars' website. Did you guys try fitting one in?
      Really appreciated the reply.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 лет назад +3

      I just went to our showroom to put a medium Nucleon in a size 50 GP Plus R v2, since we had both there. It's a tight fit, but it works. The key is to "burrito" the Nucleon to slide the upper 2/3 into the pocket. Once the upper 2/3 is in and flat, roll the lower 1/3 up a bit from the bottom and into the pocket. Once in the pocket, you unroll the lower 1/3 until it lies flat in the pocket. Take your time to work the mesh of the pocket to accommodate the Nucleon. Here are some photos for help. -DrewZilla

    • @garp04
      @garp04 7 лет назад +1

      Wow! I've managed to "burrito" it in but boy is that a tight fit! Well. I guess it's safe, that back protector is not about to slip out of its pocket any time soon...
      Thanks for the assistance and for the photos, always above and beyond what's expected from a customer service. Keep up the great job guys!

    Hey Revzilla, How does this compare to the Devon leather jacket? Is the Devon still going to be protective and sporty?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 лет назад +1

      The Devon uses 1.1mm thick leather, while the GP Plus R v2 uses slightly thicker 1.3mm leather. However, the Devon is still very protective. The 1.1mm leather is a bit more flexible and less bulky, so it's more comfortable for touring while still being sporty. The Devon also includes a removable thermal liner. Both jackets use the same impact armor. -DrewZilla

    Question: In this review video, the red accents on the jacket look very orange, where as in the picture on your guys' website they look much more red, but still kind of orange-ish. Are those accents really red in person, or is there some slight variation jacket to jacket?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 лет назад +1

      The studio lighting makes it look a bit orange, but it's actually a regular red like in the photo on the product page. There isn't really variation from jacket to jacket either. -DrewZilla

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 лет назад +2

      The snap is if you want to use the jacket with a race-style back protector from Alpinestars. The race-style back protector connects to the jacket via that snap and then has a kidney belt that wraps around your waist. As for the included back pad, if you are referring to the thin piece of foam, that is just a placeholder. It is not a CE-rated back protector. The CE Level 2 back protector to fit that pocket is the Alpinestars Nucleon KR-2i, which I've linked below. -DrewZilla

    i find that the size 52 is more fitting but there is almost no room in the arm pits, would you recommend sizing up to a 54?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  5 лет назад

      I wouldn't size up just for the armpits. Leather jackets are supposed to be quite snug. Instead, I recommend looking at the GP Pro or the Missile, which have a lot more stretch in the shoulders and armpits. The GP Pro would be a 52, and the Missile would be a 54 (it runs small). -DrewZilla

      The Airflow version would be a bit better to stay cool in:
      www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-gp-plus-r-v2-airflow-jacket
      That said, a mesh option would serve you best. At this point the abrasion resistance is not far off from leather and I ride in a mesh jacket with full confidence, having crashed in one before and walked away unscathed. I would suggest taking a look here:

    Hi! I got this jacket and I am pretty much the exact same size as the guy in the video. The jacket I have is one size bigger than his and I find it really tight and short sleeved! I know its supposed to be kinda tight but the sleeves are too short for me imo since I have pretty long arms. Would it be wrong to go even a bigger size just because of the sleeve length? It also feels really stiff around the shoulders but I suppose since its leather it will loosen up considerably with time.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 лет назад +1

      I do not recommend going up a size. Instead, I recommend getting a jacket from a brand that tends to have longer sleeves, namely Spidi and REV'IT!. That way, you get longer arms without the torso being loose. Linked below are a few options. -DrewZilla

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 лет назад +1

      I'd recommend a perforated leather jacket with a removable thermal liner or just a regular non-perforated leather jacket with a few vents. The non-perforated GP Plus R v2 is comfortable up to about 27-29 C. -DrewZilla

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 лет назад +1

      We always reference EU sizes for Alpinestars, so I would have recommended size EU52 based solely on your chest size and height. The US44 should have been labeled as EU54 as well. If you have very broad shoulders, you might want a jacket with more stretch material through the shoulders. I recommend the GP Pro Jacket in EU52. -DrewZilla

    Hey, I just bought this jacket in size 48 (EU), and I'm not 100% sure if I got the right rize. It fits pretty snug but what's bothering me is that I don't know if its too short or if it's supposed to be like this. I'm 5'11/75kg and the jacket goes down maybe 4-4.5 inches below my belly button. Looks to be a bit more snug than how it fits the guy in the video.
    Btw I tried size 50 in the shop and the guy there said that it was too loose around my waist, so I bit the bullet and ordered it in size 48.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  3 года назад +1

      That all sounds pretty ok to me, but the real judge is when sitting on the bike. If you find that there is material bunching up and causing discomfort when you sit on the bike in the driveway, then it may be too long in the torso.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  6 лет назад +1

      The SPX is a mostly textile jacket with some leather at the chest and arms, while the GP Plus R v2 is a mostly leather jacket with just a bit of stretch textile. Therefore, the GP Plus R v2 provides more protection. As for sizing, I'd recommend size 48, since that's the smallest size available. You'd probably fit better in a jacket available in a size 46, so I'd recommend the SP-1 Airflow in 46. -DrewZilla

      37 degrees is really hot for a leather jacket. However, between the two, the GP Plus R v2 Airflow version is the better option. -DrewZilla

    I have a 39" chest, I'm 6'4", 33" waist, 175 lbs. What size should I get?

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  3 года назад +1

      You would probably be between a 48-50. The 50's arms will be a bit longer for you, but there will be a bit more material in the torso.
      Personally, I would suggest the 48, and the arms will be a little short, but a common solution for taller riders is to just wear full gauntlet gloves, which will cover that gap for safety while riding.
      Alternatively, you could go with a 50 in this jacket from Dainese, which is similar, but offered in tall sizing:

      I hope that helps!

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 лет назад

      You would really need a size 46, but it only goes down to 48. For a similar price, take a look at the GP-R perforated and non-perforated jackets. -DrewZilla

      I recommend the Alpinestars Nucleon. Size MD is recommended for Men's jackets size 50 and smaller and XS-MD. Size LG is recommended for Men's jackets size 52 and larger and LG-4XL. See specific Women's jackets for sizing recommendations. -DrewZilla

    I'm wondering about the usage for this jacket in terms of season?
    Also in general what degrees do you consider 2 season hot weather or 3 season cold weather? A chart would be helpful, as the summer of california is different from the summer of norway :)

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  7 лет назад +5

      A summer mesh jacket might be for temperatures above 70F (21C). Two season hot weather might anything above 60-65F (15-18+ C). Three season warm weather might be anything above 50F (10C). Three season cold weather might have an upper limit of 70F (21C). The non-perforated version of this jacket is good from about 50-80F (10-27C), though it really depends on your own temperature tolerance. The perforated Airflow version is good above 70+F (21+C). -DrewZilla
