  • Take a peek into what it's like to live in our small 20-foot yurt in Canada's far North in the freezing winter temperatures of minus 30°C (Minus 22°F)!
We came up with the idea to take one day to share our daily routine with you and were amazed to see how this ordinary day turned into one quite extraordinary!
We, together with our big malamute cross dog, Tenshi have a routine that looks a lot like a dance as we move in, out, and about our tiny yurt on extremely cold days.
As you will see, this lifestyle is physically demanding, but it can be rewarding at the same time.
If you watch until the end of the show, you can see how something as simple as dumping a bucket of dirty dishwater turns into a magical display of dancing Northern Lights. A rare occurrence even for us!

    Hey guys,
Fellow Yukoner checking in! I have been thinking about building a yurt in my backyard. I was wondering how did you insulate the platform underneath, and what did you use for insulation in the walls? If it stands up to -40 then you did something right lol. Cheers!

Hello fellow Yukoner! We were lucky enough to get the insulated floor at the antique shop, Rustic North. The owner used to sell Pacific Yurts and had one used floor left. We have the 4 season package for insulation that we purchased from Nomad Shelter. It came with the yurt. Thanks for watching, Victoria Man. Good luck with your build!

What a relaxing experience not having to do all the chores myself. 😎 Still I'm not sure how you guys do it when one person wants to sleep and the other wants to do anything else. Your daily rhythms must be quite synchronized.
All the best and always great seeing you!

Lulu... hello. There is a lot compromise involved. Honestly, I don’t know how we do it either... especially when we are tired, hungry or it’s full moon... 😶 With time we’ve developed routines and have come to a place where we know our dance parts and partners well enough to have it go smoothly...most of the time. This topic could be an entire episode! 🤗

Great Video! I always notice the lack of background noise in your Videos, which makes these videos so relaxing to watch. Is the dog outside a stray? Just because it seems, like he comes and goes whenever he wants to 😄

Max! Hello! The puppy belongs to an elderly gentleman who lives down the lane. He’s in no condition to walk the pup, so instead just let’s him out of his home to run free every day. Grody returns home when we shoo him away or when it’s time for his dinner. As you can see, he’s got A LOT of energy. We are happy to see your comment,Max. Thank you. 😀😀🐶

Hello from a subscriber in Brooklyn, NY! Just curious why you boiled water or are cooking on the gas stove versus using your wood burner to do that. Is it strictly temperature control or convenience? Since you are already burning wood for heat. I was thinking, wouldn't you want to conserve your butane/gas/propane? I love seeing how people live under different conditions. I wish I would have tried it when I was younger.

Hello Wing Wong from Brooklyn, NY!
We heat water on our wood stove to keep moisture in the air, and to use for sponge baths and doing dishes. Sometimes we will start cooking using our propane stovetop and then finish it off on the wood stove. Stew or soups are the best cooked this way! We hardly use the wood stove in summer, so we cook more using propane at that time. The wood stove is not burning really hot at all times during the colder months, that’s why it’s best to use it to simmer meals. Thanks for your questions... good ones. 👍🏽👍🏽
