I've literally stopped working on digital art because of the frustration with my colors never feeling right even after studying bounce light!! You sir have restored my faith in trying again 😭😭 thank you so much for showing me what no other tutorial has 😭
You got this Fluffly Spirit!! I highly recommend always having one or more references at hand of what you want to accomplish so if you ever feel lost, you have a north to follow. Best of luck!
Wow that timelapse video is so cool!!! I was directed to on of your videos because I'm adding new features to the animdessim2 panel for photoshop. This would be such a cool feature but I doubt I can make it work without crashing photoshop. I did add the onionskin before after color just today. Looks pretty handy
Wow you have the best tutorials! I was so confused on why my illustrations looked flat and wacky but with the way you composite colors and highlights with the Background everything looks next level now! that 3D stuff looks super helpful too!
Happy to hear this! Yeah I struggled with my illustrations looking a bit flat until I started to do studies from real life (like the ones at the very beginning when i'm talking about Lighting properties), that helped a ton. Something just clicks after doing two or three of them and it stays in your bloodstream. Highly recommended! Thank you for watching!

i dont even use clip studio, this is just one of the BEST arts ive ever seen! she has an insanely clean line drawing with stylish curves but great sense of solid 3d spacial awareness. perfectly vibrant colours and light intensity to fit the character in a dark environment. not to say your character isnt beautiful, but as someone new to this channel, this video thumbnail REALLY caught my eye, in a way that your older thumbnail pictures probably wouldn't have. big big improvements.
Hawshi Magii! You have no idea how much this comment means to me hehe. I do put a lot of effort into my titles and thumbnails (always plan them before even starting to film the videos) since its the deciding factor on people even watching the video to begin with. That being said this thumbnail in particular was a struggle to me, I had 4 completely different versions and had the help of a lot of people in order to decide which one to use. In the end I went with this one, never knowing if I made the right choice. Your message just gave me a lot of peace of mind and made me really happy, thank you. And thanks for watching the video! you’re now my favorite youtuber i’ve ever discovered. i just watched all your tutorials and they’re so much better than any other CSP tutorials i’ve ever seen! you explain everything so well and it’s so helpful!! i’ve learned things that i couldn’t learn from any other youtube tutorials on this application, thank you so much!! your videos are incredible!
Koichimi! This made my day. I appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos and writing this! Your message is the reason why I do this! I'll keep working hard to hopefully keep bringing value to you. Both as an artist and a youtuber I keep learning a ton with every video so I hope to live up to your words and to make the next ones even better. Thank you!!
One thing I need to know is: the layer in which I am painting the highlights. Will it be on above the filter effect (i mean filling one colour on the drawing) or below it? Please let me know
The highlights will usually be on top of everything so the blending mode can brighten up all the other layers, second would be the shadows, then the lineart, and then the flat colors. You can try adding effects on top of everything, or sandwiched inbetween depending on what you want!
@@immortalgamer31 For highlights I go with an additive blending mode like Add glow, or glow dodge. For shadows I use Multiply. Others can be normal and just lower the opacity of the layer if the effect is too strong. If you're having trouble you can check in the video which blending modes I'm using since the layer panel is showing at all tmes. But my biggest tip is ''paint subtly!''. Most of the passes I do are not that overwhelming so they leave enough space for when I turn all of the other layers on!
Man im just starting on digital art and i really was inspired by your oc. I know it takes a long time to get that good, but i still downloaded the app you use. While i was using it i realized you needed to PAY to save your art. What kind of condition is that? You somehow save your art, and i know you use the free version. How do you do it?
Your an excellent teacher! I've been really stuck in place with digital art recently and these videos have been able to clarify where my roadblocks are, values! Its nice to make progress. Thank you!
Glad you like them! And absolutely, I used to be a bit of a purist and wanted to paint everything without using 3D reference. But as I tackle on bigger projects I find 3D actually liberating to be able to produce faster a higher volume of work! Thanks for watching!
I've been drawing for more than a decade and I cannot handle so many layers. if I have 9, I'm likely to do a lot of work on the wrong one. By chance, would you know how to do this in a more condensed way? I realize it takes away from your wholesale freedom, but say you are certain of what you want to produce, so colors are not a significant issue.
I'm an amateur model painter, so this really isn't a subject I'll be able to make use of, but I'm fascinated by the process you went through. Great video, and curious to see what else there is to learn
went a little too fast trying to keep up with what you did (I'm a terribly slow learner) especially around the color integration part where you make a selection, that confuses the hell out of me, oh well, i guess ill try it but i have zero idea how this works in clip studio paint
Im a hobby artist and really appreciate this quick tutorial. currently Im having a big painting thaat ive been working on for view weeks now. definietly will try this one out !!
I am winning with myself by finding your videos quick I wanna ask for a little help tho, I feel like a have a very hand in digital but don't know how to change that. My pen tips are gone by now sadly
In my previous video (CSP Brushes Guide) I explain how to change the pen pressure curve for the program or for individual brush properties, you could check that out. But summarized: Under the 'File' menu > you have the 'Pen Pressure Settings'. You could try changing the curve so it takes more strength to make the line thicker, usually a curve with a belly down will do that. Lastly one personal tip! If you say you are running through your pen tips pretty fast I really recommend you try gripping the pen softly and drawing more lightly, force yourself to do so because the way you're working right now can lead to a carpal tunnel injury in the future. To give you an example I've drawn for 10 hours a day, everyday, for the last 7 years and I have only change pen tips once. But I actively try to have my hand very relaxed and loose. Best of luck!
I haven't used Krita before, but this entire painting process can be done in photoshop (that's were I used to teach on), so I'm fairly certain Krita can do it too!
Honestly one of the best youtube channels ive seen for art tutorials , following your tips ik my art will improve by 3000% , thank you so much an keep up the good work
Ohhhh I really need to learn how to use 3d objects in clip studio. I'm a hobby artist and personally it doesn't give me anything to draw busy background scenes so I never learned it but 3d objects sound like a great idea to at least make things more interesting when my characters are in a specific setting. I love that so many people make tutorials and documentation videos for clip studio. Thank you thank you
I really appreciate it Robin! I'm starting to use blender myself JUST so I can quickly model props for my BGs. I was pleasantly surprised with how intuitive Blender is when it comes to creating objects! I don't feel confident enough with it to make a tutorial but maybe as I gain mileage I'll give it a try. But its definitely the way to go! Thank you for watching!
Totally, it carries a ton of weight in storytelling. What I wanted to convey is some people worry too much when painting about how a color works with the rest, but if you worry more about your values then any color you can imagine has the ability to work just fine! Thanks for watching!
Привет, Ману, мне очень нравится твое видео о Clip Studio, могу я озвучить это видео и загрузить его на свой канал, чтобы российские пользователи могли использовать Clip Studio?
I do hope you go a little more into detail next time with shadows and lights with other examples, cuz I feel like it went through it all too fast? You explenation of the shadows were no problem, i just wish you used more examples (during daytime, sunset etc)! That or im just slow lol but you made me realize stuff that I need to work on regardless, so im def subscribing to see what other tutorials you make in the future! Thank you for the video
Hi Slifer! Working on a video on cel-shading right now (which is this but condensed/simplified), I'll make sure to talk more about other lighting examples, thank you for your suggestion! And naah you're good!! I did go fast on this video cause I'm testing how the length of the video impacts the audience retention (hint: I still have no idea cause every video is its own world hehe rip). So I did make the edit quite fast. Hopefully I get to expand on this on the next videos. Thank you for watching!!
I always mess up coloring and shadows/lights nowadays, so your tutorial was recommended to me in the perfect moment. honestly, I like to overcomplicate things as a self-taught artist, and it just looks so easy now after the video :"D I even make drawings on phone (have nothing else, sadly) to begin with, and stuff is limited there. and oh god, the backgrounds...
I want to disagree with statement of 'color doesn't matter' and using black saturation mode for showing bw mode because it's inaccurate and can mess with some people while studying(if you paint a lot with color traditionally and using digital tools you'll notice that picture without color loses some parts of contrast/volume because color does matter and adds additional weight on picture) you can see from example 1:17 . To master this on some degree you need to study lighting with monochromatic tones additionally with color theory.
Yeah maybe "color doesn't matter" is me just being bad at English. But I think my main message gets across, which is 'if your values are working, then you can use any color and it will work' and I stand behind it. But I do understand why studying with monochromatic palettes can also help
Hi Yamil! In CSP I was painting with the 'add glow' blending mode (different from add, or glow dodge) and the trick is I wasn't using a red, but rather a redish orange! Sometimes a more pink red also works wonders. Try painting with a soft edge brush and not a full opacity for the best results. Best of luck!
Hola Marikart! La música la hice para el canal (soy yo cantando pero no le cuentes a nadie jeje) pronto sacaré una versión completa aqui mismo. Ahora si a pintar! 💪
Haha It's an original song I made (it's actually me singing with a voice changer, don't tell anyone tho :v ) I'll release the full version here eventually! So glad you liked it!
Thank you really for your video also i appreciate the speach at the end cause i am rookie and I was feeling like cheating if i use references and it takes me some time to accept that I really draw something and its normal to use references. I am giving you a heart on your written version
Thank YOU for watching it. I totally feel you, I don't know why but when I was in college everyone used to brag about how "they painted stuff without any ref" (of course it looked like doo doo). But then as I got into the industry I realized that every single professional, without exception, uses reference. And, as I've done it myself I realized it is single-handedly the key factor for a piece's success! I think what's important is using several references and not only one, so there's no plagiarizing. It's also counter productive to use few, cause the more references you use, the more original and rich your mixture will be, so it turns into something fantastic! And on the other side of the coin, it is also important not to spend too much time on this, so we don't fall on procrastination (I'm definitely guilty of this haha). Wish you the best of luck!
Super happy you found it helpful Sheida! Thank you for watching it! And hell yeee I want to create THE channel that I wish was around when I was looking for how to learn digital painting and 2D animation. We're building it slowly but I do want to put all my best content here and it'll always be free to watch!
First video oif yours I watch. 3 minutes in, I subbed! I love love loooooove how greatly you explain everything, how detailed you are. I learnt so much, thank you. And keep it up!
I do have a quick question, what tablet did you use for this (or most digital art really)? I currently have an intous pro small and plan to use it till I have enough to get a new one so I've been looking around for different tablets
I've owned 4 wacom tablets and a Huion through the years. Currently working on the Wacom Cintiq 22 but for most of my professional career I've used tablets in the medium range. You basically need to ask yourself 2 questions: -Would my drawing get better if I had more space to draw? It depends of how big are your strokes and if you feel limited with your current one. Then, would a medium tablet be enough or do you need to move onto a big one? -Does seeing what i'm drawing on a screen underneath make a difference (Does having a screen tablet make a difference)? For most of my career I've used an Intuos 5, not sure how it compares to the current Intuos lineup. Then I switched to a Cintiq 13HD, which has the same drawing surface as the Intuos 5, but it has a screen. And in all honesty the difference wasn't as huge as I expected. In fact, my dog ate the power cord so while I waited for a new one to arrive I had to switch back to the Intuos and I realized I could draw basically the same hehe. That is ME, not sure how you feel about it. Wacom tablets are fantastic, definitely the best of the bunch, but they are also really expensive. If you are looking for the best in both worlds I would recommend looking into Huion and XP-Pen tablets (I have used both and can vouche that the feeling on drawing on them is just as good as a wacom, the difference is in the screen colors). They both have a relatively affordable 22 inch screen tablet model. They also have smaller offerings with a screen. And then Wacom has some offers of big tablets with No screen. Hope this helps! Best of luck!
This is such a nice informative video! I've been using that method for a while now and it's the best! You've explained it so well :) Keep it up, love your vids man
This is one of the most helpful and easiest tutorials I have ever seen. Not was it helpful, but it was very informative. It helped me clear so many confusions and this video motivates me to do better when working on my drawings. Thank you so much! Keep up the great work:)
I did it on and off while working on other projects so its hard to tell, also everyone works at their own rhythm. What I CAN tell you is if at first it takes several days to paint a piece, the next one will be faster, and the next one even faster. I promise the more you paint you'll quickly gain speed!!
Damn, youtube actually delivering a great video on recommended. This was fantastic. Thank you. Super well explained, made really easy yet not dumbed down.
Wowow, I didn't know about all these little things about clip paint studio, the key binds, the outlining of folders and what not. Definitely using these tips. Great video!
this was so helpful!! thank u so much :]]] clip studio is such an amazing software, but to be honest i dont know how to use 60% of the tools and settings, even though ive been drawing w it for two years. could u possibly make a video explaining the different tools and settings of clip studio paint, and tips on how to make ur art better? it would be super appreciated!!!
Happy to help! And absolutely, it might not be in a single video but in every video I'll try focusing on an area of the program and explaining the tools we have at our disposal! And I totally feel you, I've been using CSP for 6 years but I'm still learning things every day, it is actually quite robust! Thank YOU for watching!

May I ask you a question? That nice red terminator shadow over the character's skin in 8:48, how can you do it in CSP?
What is the song in introduction ? Because when I come back to learn more with your tutorial , I always listé to this song haha
Haha It's an original song I made (it's actually me singing with a voice changer, don't tell anyone tho :v ) I'll release the full version here eventually! So glad you liked it!
Man, this literally help me a lot, bro I use photoshop, but this video, explain me so good how to paint, tysm for teaching me this
Happy to help! I also started in photoshop and can confirm it works exactly the same. Best of luck!
@@ManuMercurial thanks man 🙌🏼
Thank you really for your video also i appreciate the speach at the end cause i am rookie and I was feeling like cheating if i use references and it takes me some time to accept that I really draw something and its normal to use references.
@@ManuMercurial really thank you for sharing exeprience and kind words
Well done. You gained my attention and my support. Salute!
Thanks for stopping by!!

Afro Ninja approved 🥷🏾🤙🏾
Appreciate it!!
You basically need to ask yourself 2 questions:
-Would my drawing get better if I had more space to draw?
@@ManuMercurial Awesome, I will do some more research and find what would work best for me. Thank you very much for the reply!
how would i import the model
this was some professional thing. thanks man
Glad you liked it! Thank you!
This is such a nice informative video! I've been using that method for a while now and it's the best! You've explained it so well :) Keep it up, love your vids man
Evarowse approved! That's fantastic to hear, thank you!
This is one of the most helpful and easiest tutorials I have ever seen. Not was it helpful, but it was very informative. It helped me clear so many confusions and this video motivates me to do better when working on my drawings. Thank you so much! Keep up the great work:)
Thank you RainbowSwirl, your message means a lot! I'll keep working hard to bring value for this channel and you!
Gonna be honest this is a lot more information for coloring than I thought
bro i love you thx
how long did this piece take to make?
I did it on and off while working on other projects so its hard to tell, also everyone works at their own rhythm. What I CAN tell you is if at first it takes several days to paint a piece, the next one will be faster, and the next one even faster. I promise the more you paint you'll quickly gain speed!!
Tutorial was great. I love it☺️☺️.
And can you send me the link of song that you had used in intro. Please 🙏.
It'll be available soon in the channel! So glad you liked the song and the video!!
@@ManuMercurial well where is it? Please have mercy I need it :(

Wowow, I didn't know about all these little things about clip paint studio, the key binds, the outlining of folders and what not. Definitely using these tips. Great video!
Happy to hear it was helpful Dargon! Thanks for watching!
this was so helpful!! thank u so much :]]]
clip studio is such an amazing software, but to be honest i dont know how to use 60% of the tools and settings, even though ive been drawing w it for two years. could u possibly make a video explaining the different tools and settings of clip studio paint, and tips on how to make ur art better? it would be super appreciated!!!
