Celia is the standard of what women want to be, specifically heterosexual women. Despite being married and having a husband or family, she is still willing to be supportive around other females, which is remarkable. But only Millie sees that side of her.
This brings back not so good memories of when my mom took me out of public school and sent me to an all girl Catholic highschool.. A lot of the girls there were cruel and hateful.. They were so mean to me.. I always try to see the best in people.. I would come home crying almost everyday begging my mom to take me out.. I made it though.. I found a group of misfit girls and they became my family.. I wouldn't have made it without them and I am forever grateful to each and every one of them..
As a Catholic...we are the absolute worst. Not all of us, but the ones who grow up with a certain mindset are among the worst people I have ever had the displeasure to interact with.
I was raised in an all girl household. My mother would be pressurably strict with me and my older sister would have a cold attitude towards me. The bodyshaming and the underestimation were hard. These things though have changed, when I started going to college, became an adult and met new female friends who surprisingly were far more kinder and respectfull towards me than them and in return I helped them back. Even my father was a better person than my mother, though she didn't want to admit it due to her ego and her "reputation" in the family she had.
Seeing sweet Celia lose her lovely smile as she realized she was being snubbed is heartbreaking. She is what my mom called an innocent. She has no guiles, no meanness, no ulterior motives. Along with Skeeter, she's the kindest white woman in town.
