My grandparents neighbor actually went to the hospital a few years ago because he was feeling a sense of doom. No other symptoms. They sent him home of course. Heart attack two days later and died. Absolutely out of nowhere. Really healthy guy. Totally wild.
i have leukocytosis for years, they never found out what is wrong, if anything... there were times where i had fever for 2 months. but it would be small fever.
My body temperature is a few degrees lower than what it should be so a “normal” temp to me feels like a fever - then you go to the doctor and they think nothing is wrong - should I go by their standards or my ‘normal’?

Controlled Hypothyroidism and uncontrolled anemia are 2 factors. So much blood work and I still have no answers.... . I just had surgery mid September to remove a rare mesenteric/omentum cyst. tbf, whos to say that she DIDNT take her son to a doctor? maybe the doctor assumed it was a really bad cold or flu and just sent them home. or, if she did just let him stay home, SHE probably assumed it was a cold and just let him rest at home. regardless, as everyone else has said, sometimes ppl have fevers for about a week and their diagnosis is usually nothing major, but you should check ofc after about a week or more you should go to a hospital, which the mother did
Medical story for the lols, I’ve had agonizing stomach pain (unable to touch) and got diagnosed with functional abdominal pain syndrome, hyperalgesia, and dyspepsia. Was admitted for a few days to be on ketamine and the godsend nurse pushed for a urine test, culture was basically positive for a bladder infection in four hours. Started taking antibiotics and my symptoms vanished, when I was done with the first round the pain slowly started coming back, so we jumped back on it as fast as possible. I am still on the antibiotics to treat it as this is recent, but I’m still feeling better! I had told the doctors multiple times it hurt to pee but they told me it was normal with my conditions, so I stopped pushing for it. My SIL has a friend who went through the exact same thing. If you have pain peeing do not let it go untested for infection! Common condition that got diagnosed as a rare one because out of the many ER, urgent care, and specialist visits they never thought to check sooner. Edit:typo
I love that shows do explore rare diseases like this, me being one of the cases i have ttp its honestly just as dramatic as they make it look, i am lucky every time i have a flare up and catch it
Truly, most people think things like Leprosy, Plague, Ebola....are dead. They are not. They crop up here and there. They become more uncommon but NEVER die out. We need to be taught this in school. I learned about leishmaniasis on M*A*S*H. (The doctors lied to save the patient.)

I wasn't sedated when I had colonoscopy. It doesn’t hurt. It only feels strange. I got watch the monitor the whole time. Really cool seeing the pink tubing.
Low fevers are fine to bare with for a week to 10 days about. A fever is just making your body a hellhole for bacteria to live in. It's a treatment not a symptom in most cases. It's better to deal with the fever than suppress it with medication

I used to watch that Mike Myers movie the love Guru all the time around then and my doctor was an indian guy who I kept calling Rajshneesh (I know I misspelled that, best attempt I swear) when I was being doped up before the surgery.😂 my mom was telling the doctor how much I loved that character and she kept whispering to me to shut tf up since this dude was about to cut me open.😂 I healed just in time for school.😑
See I thought I had a slight muscular tear in my abdomen one time due to heavy lifting. Couldn't sleep that night cause of it and went through the next day not really able to lift things. Told my dad about it. Went to patient first, then got rushed to the hospital about an hour later. Turns out my appendix was close to bursting. Got to sleep at 3:30am, woke up at 7:30 to use the bathroom before my operation, woke up around 2 in the afternoon.
In fairness to Chase, colonoscopies can be risky when performed on kids. I think he's genuinely trying to look out for the kid, he just made the wrong assumption about his condition.

Eat fruit, protein and soup. check again, if its going down try to sleep. 41⁰ medical emercancy go straight to a hospital especially if the kid is under 12 !!! 42⁰ also go straight to the doctor, you can still be helped here. 43⁰ brain damage 44-45⁰ death. 46.5⁰ is the highest recorded fever ever. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELFS !
I feel like it's a universal thing for doctors to get slightly ticked when patients start asking questions about stuff that they found by researching online, you can certainly take out a sizable chunk from your family physician's paycheck when you start getting more knowledgeable about the most common illnesses that bring people to the doctor and how to best prevent those illnesses or treat them at home.
There’s a diplomatic way to go about suggesting it, but most people don’t understand that. You can say “oh yeah, I Googled this, but you guys are the professionals so I have no clue.” It took me years to finally get diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, but it only ever happened when I started advocating for myself. Everyone else just thought I wanted painkillers because of my age and opioid hysteria at the time. I’m glad I have a good primary and rheumatologist who actually put in the work to do X-rays.

I have been an RN for 28 yrs, and they aren't upset about people becoming more knowledgeable. They get upset when people read things and suddenly begin to diagnose themselves, or think that they know more about a medical subject from reading it online than someone who has studied medicine for 6 + years, then put it into practice for longer. It's ok to make suggestions regarding symptoms, but doctors definitely don't like to be told how to do their job, or that they are missing something. If a doctor isn't open to suggestions regarding tests when it makes sense, then you have the wrong doctor. However, just because you think it makes sense from reading it online, doesn't mean that it's correct.
@@jenx5870i feel like if they are bringing it to a doctor, and not self diagnosing, it's already a good step for the patient. Patients asking about things they read about online is so often just because they're worried. It's easy for a doctor to say a patient is wrong, but until I get cleared for something, it can cause me to sleep poorly, and just think about it all the time. It is hard to be diplomatic when you're being dismissed with it explanation. It is increasingly more common these days, and I there's only so much faith you can have in someone who you don't know when it comes to your life, or the life of someone you care about. What house did here makes sense, note the symptoms, and tell the patient why they're wrong. Help them learn and assure them you know what you're talking about instead of dismissing and saying yea I'm a pro.

Now that I'm studying clinical analysis, it's amazing how you can now kinda understand what they are talking about. Erdheim Chester I had to do research and also I didn't expect that CD68+ would have been a marker for such a thing.
The sad thing about a lot of the rare diseases in this show, is that a lot of them are not effectively treatable, certainly not at the stages a lot of the patients in the show reach. A perfect example is in the Euphoria episodes when Foreman and the Cop get infected with Naeglaria Fowleri. The resulting condition (PAM) is one of the deadliest conditions, with 100% Fatality rate untreated, with over 90% of Patients dying even with treatment. The chances of Foreman surviving a particularly agressive strain while already inches from death would be essentially 0. He'd certainly be brain damaged even if he did survive, as most survivors are. The other sad thing is most of the time, the inevitabile killer in this show is cancer, as most patients and characters who are diagnosed dont survive. Its ironic, considering Cancer is often far more treatable than a lot of conditions on this show.

I wasn't sedated when I had colonoscopy. It doesn’t hurt. It only feels strange. I got watch the monitor the whole time. Really cool seeing the pink tubing.
I had a colonoscopy a month ago. I was in agony despite midazolam and fentanyl sedation - they did nothing.
Sarcoidosis was rare on House. Often suggested but no patient ever had it (unlike the single lupus case.)
Actually, one patient did have sarcoidosis.

Low fevers are fine to bare with for a week to 10 days about. A fever is just making your body a hellhole for bacteria to live in. It's a treatment not a symptom in most cases. It's better to deal with the fever than suppress it with medication

@@thermochemist nope, fever is a response by the auto-inflammatory system, and it can often be a sign of a very serious issue, like an autoimmune/auto-inflammatory condition, or a periodic fever syndrome.
Fever needs to be carefully watched, especially in children, and *especially* if there are additional symptoms - like a rash or photophobia.

Mine was a day away from bursting a few weeks before 3rd or 4th grade.
I had stomach pains all day, but nothing too terrible. The funny thing is it started after I ate a corn dog from the deli in our grocery store, so I thought that was the cause.
That night I complained to my mom that my stomach was really hurting, she told me to try to sleep through it and hopefully I’d be okay in the morning.
However she has a rule of three type mentality, after failing to sleep for hours and complaining the third time she took me to the hospital. By then the pain was so bad it was like somebody trying to punch their way outta my gut with brass knuckles.
Mom felt awful about it but she had no way of knowing it was something so severe. Appendicitis sneaks up on people all the time.
I used to watch that Mike Myers movie the love Guru all the time around then and my doctor was an indian guy who I kept calling Rajshneesh (I know I misspelled that, best attempt I swear) when I was being doped up before the surgery.😂 my mom was telling the doctor how much I loved that character and she kept whispering to me to shut tf up since this dude was about to cut me open.😂

See I thought I had a slight muscular tear in my abdomen one time due to heavy lifting. Couldn't sleep that night cause of it and went through the next day not really able to lift things. Told my dad about it. Went to patient first, then got rushed to the hospital about an hour later. Turns out my appendix was close to bursting. Got to sleep at 3:30am, woke up at 7:30 to use the bathroom before my operation, woke up around 2 in the afternoon.

Chase is the next House. His character develops a lot over the course of the show. He’s man enough to admit when he made a mistake.

In fairness to Chase, colonoscopies can be risky when performed on kids. I think he's genuinely trying to look out for the kid, he just made the wrong assumption about his condition.

I prided myself on being a medical detective, and SCOOPING my fellow internists, who knew way more than me, but were, perhaps, not as tenacious at achieving a DX!!! In my career, I was stumped 3 times. I referred one of them to a major diagnostic center in Seattle, and two to THE MAYO CLINIC! Two of the three were ultimately diagnosable at that time, with specific AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES! It turned out, that in the three cases, I had already initiated the proper treatment! HIGH DOSE STEROIDS!!! You young PUNKS, listen to your patients, be skeptical, above all make physical contact, even a hand on a shoulder! That seems to be a lost ART IN MEDICINE!!! We played an Oiji board game in high school. the board KEPT referring to one of the teens in our group who was only mildly interested in the game. He was disturbed about it, we were puzzled. Who believes a game anyway? Well, shortly after that, he was ill and finally diagnosed with a long standing but previously unknown kidney disorder. That poor kid spent decades in medical care, touch and go. To my knowledge; he survived to adulthood. However....it has answered to me WHY the board kept mercilessly repeating his name and warnings. It was not evil but CONCERNED. Maybe dead people aren't all evil after all.

Repeatedly naming the person who isn't that interested is a classic move, trying to get a rise out of him. The kidney thing was a coincidence. Whatever the next big thing was that happened in the kid's life, good or bad, your friends would have said that's what the Ouija board was talking about.

I haved watched this series on Netflix long time ago and I loved it specially I loved it when Hause's team were these guys, my favorite
I feel like it's a universal thing for doctors to get slightly ticked when patients start asking questions about stuff that they found by researching online, you can certainly take out a sizable chunk from your family physician's paycheck when you start getting more knowledgeable about the most common illnesses that bring people to the doctor and how to best prevent those illnesses or treat them at home.
There’s a diplomatic way to go about suggesting it, but most people don’t understand that. You can say “oh yeah, I Googled this, but you guys are the professionals so I have no clue.” It took me years to finally get diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, but it only ever happened when I started advocating for myself. Everyone else just thought I wanted painkillers because of my age and opioid hysteria at the time. I’m glad I have a good primary and rheumatologist who actually put in the work to do X-rays.
@@Sniperboy5551oh hey I got that to! Hi! I went through years of being told it was just growing pains and then one day I walked in hunched over and shuffling and I finally got sent to a rheumatologist and diagnosed.
I have been an RN for 28 yrs, and they aren't upset about people becoming more knowledgeable. They get upset when people read things and suddenly begin to diagnose themselves, or think that they know more about a medical subject from reading it online than someone who has studied medicine for 6 + years, then put it into practice for longer. It's ok to make suggestions regarding symptoms, but doctors definitely don't like to be told how to do their job, or that they are missing something. If a doctor isn't open to suggestions regarding tests when it makes sense, then you have the wrong doctor. However, just because you think it makes sense from reading it online, doesn't mean that it's correct.
@@jenx5870i feel like if they are bringing it to a doctor, and not self diagnosing, it's already a good step for the patient. Patients asking about things they read about online is so often just because they're worried. It's easy for a doctor to say a patient is wrong, but until I get cleared for something, it can cause me to sleep poorly, and just think about it all the time. It is hard to be diplomatic when you're being dismissed with it explanation. It is increasingly more common these days, and I there's only so much faith you can have in someone who you don't know when it comes to your life, or the life of someone you care about.
What house did here makes sense, note the symptoms, and tell the patient why they're wrong. Help them learn and assure them you know what you're talking about instead of dismissing and saying yea I'm a pro.

The sad thing about a lot of the rare diseases in this show, is that a lot of them are not effectively treatable, certainly not at the stages a lot of the patients in the show reach.
A perfect example is in the Euphoria episodes when Foreman and the Cop get infected with Naeglaria Fowleri. The resulting condition (PAM) is one of the deadliest conditions, with 100% Fatality rate untreated, with over 90% of Patients dying even with treatment. The chances of Foreman surviving a particularly agressive strain while already inches from death would be essentially 0. He'd certainly be brain damaged even if he did survive, as most survivors are.
The other sad thing is most of the time, the inevitabile killer in this show is cancer, as most patients and characters who are diagnosed dont survive. Its ironic, considering Cancer is often far more treatable than a lot of conditions on this show.
