      Hi there! Thanks for watching my videos! I love buying vintage/antiques of many different types, and this sale was the best one that I have ever been to for art glass. There were so many different beautiful pieces. I think that I got all of the Fenton. I wish that I could find another one like it.

    I can’t believe how many gifts from my wedding in 1986 show up in your videos! We received two sets of four of those glass and silver coasters. They’ve lasted a lot longer than the marriage did!

      Hi there! Thanks for the note. How funny that you see your wedding gifts in the videos. I see those sterling rimmed crystal coasters all the time---to the point where I joke about finding more of them. I have learned that there isn't much sterling in them so now I know to only buy them when they are inexpensive. I bet the coasters are really pretty to use at the dinner table, side tables etc...

    Most of the glass is Fenton. Anything made by Fenton before 1970 isn't marked. And you can date your hand painted items by looking up the name of the artist and when they worked for Fenton at Fenton.com.

    • @livingthegoodlifechannel
      @livingthegoodlifechannel  5 лет назад

      Hi Ammy. Thanks so much for all of the Fenton Information. I had no idea about the Fenton website.

    • @ammyhager1321
      @ammyhager1321 5 лет назад +1

      You can also date Fenton baskets by the pattern on the handle where the glass maker pressed the handle on to the basket. Each artist has their own signature pattern. You can look up the press patterns at Fenton.com too. And keep in mind that Fenton has recently shut down their factory and is no longer making anything. So the less they make the higher the value goes up on the pieces already produced. Anything made in the USA and that isn't mass produced can only increase in value. Every piece of Fenton is made by hand. I have a whole bunch of it. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.

      Hello there. Thanks for the tip about the coasters. I haven't used them. Now that I know how little sterling silver is actually on them (kind of like the candle sticks), I only buy them when they are extremely cheap. The Fenton cat was definitely not a normal purchase for me, but it has been one of the most popular items with viewers. Glad that I snapped it up!

    The thing you couldn't remember the name it's called an easel, and plus the other things can be used for picture frames not just plates or bowls if you have a picture frame that maybe might be broken or is too delicate to hang on the wall or it's missing the thing that props it up to place it on a table. you can use those to display pictures in frames. if you ever come across another one of those coasters it normally comes with 8 coasters not 7. obviously worth more money 8 coasters but I'm sure you can make do with the seven coasters. I would ask $75/80 for the cat. Yellow vase would ask for $50. Yellow dish would ask for $15/20 for it or up to $25. Just a and idea or suggestion.... have fun with the price...

    Is Vaseline glass always greenish? What should I look for when buying carnival glass so I don't buy a modern remake?

    • @livingthegoodlifechannel
      @livingthegoodlifechannel  4 года назад +2

      Hi Hillary. I am not an expert on Vaseline glass but from what I understand, the terminology seems to be Vaseline glass is yellow, and Uranium glass in green. I watch "The Bargain Baron's" on RUclips, and they recently said that some Uranium glass is blue. If you would like to collect it, you will need a black light to check for the "glowing" characteristic. I have heard that you can get one in the pet section of discount stores. (I think that people use it to check for urine stains too.) Regarding Carnival glass, I recommend either buying (or checking out at the library) carnival glass reference books or doing a lot of research on line. When I first starting collecting antique china, there was no internet so I used to peruse the reference books every night to get familiar with shapes, patterns, etc... Also if you see that an antique mall booth has a lot of carnival glass, see if the dealer will talk to you about the topic. It's great to learn from others.

      Hi Bee! So funny that you would mention the RC vase. Another RUclips creator, AntiquesArena, mentioned that they go for a lot more money in the UK. It must just be the US where the prices are low. I remember the prices being much better pre-2007 when the antiques market took such a hit. I agree about some of the items going for more money that they look like they should. I picked up items even when I didn't like them because I thought that they would be cheap.

      Hi Leah. I agree about vintage/antique sterling being so much nicer. I try to buy sterling well below the spot price. • @livingthegoodlifechannel
      @livingthegoodlifechannel  5 лет назад +1

      Hi LIssette. Sometimes the mark on Fenton is difficult to see. I hold up the bottom to bright sunlight, and see if the oval mark into which the word "Fenton" is written is visible on the bottom. Sometimes, I can just see the oval mark with undecipherable letters inside, or I can just make out the "F" at the start of the word. If there is no mark, then I go to Ebay and play around with the wording to see if I can find something similar. I did that with the cat, and I came up with many different colored and decorated cats; finally there was one in this mold but the other molds were similar enough that I knew it was Fenton. I didn't start buying Fenton until last year, and now I kind of assume that it is Fenton until my research (or viewers!) tell me otherwise. Good luck with your treasure hunting this season. It's about time for garage sales to start!
