Living The Good Life
Добавлен 10 май 2016
I have always loved antiques and jewelry, so after I visit garage sales, flea markets, estate sales and thrift stores each week, I will share my finds! It's definitely Living The Good Life to be able to explore and collect such a diverse group of amazing items from the past 150 years without now having to worry about a career getting in the way! I also throw in some yarn and salvage grocery store hauls from time to time. I hope that you find it enjoyable.

Most of the finds come from a single family-run estate sale. I was the first one inside (and it stayed that way for @ 15 minutes excluding the young man who was just looking at albums.)

I hit the jackpot for Pyrex and art glass and who doesn't love some sterling finds! Note: The green cracker jar appears to be Mosser which was founded in 1971 using old molds so I'm not sure of the age anymore.

Estate Sale Finds Video #456: Mid Century Art Glass, Jewelry & More
Maybe Salem glass company, but S was used by a few manufacturers, some bordered with squares, diamonds, circles, depending on company. Definitely wirthy as researchable piece. Good eye
Hello. Thank you very much for the information. I still need to do some research based on your input. I was just happy to find something pretty at an estate sale instead of plastic containers.
I haven’t been around because my health has been sketchy. Anyhow, I think the pink basket bowl is really pretty. Nut WOW, so much gold! One ounce, at today’s price is amazing. I knew it would be when I saw the gold chain. I think the Native American butterfly and the ring, both with coral, would be great together. I rarely fail to be amazed at the things you find. I swear you have angels sitting on your shoulders when you go out.
Jayne! So good to hear from you, but so sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well. I hope that things will start improving for you. Also, maybe a few videos will take your mind off difficult daily life issues. I've been caring for my mother who has dementia. It's been a struggle mentally and physically. After Mom goes to bed each evening, I try to find a few videos that will help me relax plus answering messages is a boon as well. I will say a prayer for you now. Regarding the finds, I'm having to coast on my finds from 2 weeks ago, because the past 2 weeks have been terrible. I'm hoping to find a family run sale for this week to pep me up.
Christmas came early. Do you have a price point to scrap your metals?
Hi Rickey! It was a REALLY fun time. I found that gold necklace first and couldn't believe it so I started looking through all the other jewelry very quickly. I just knew that one of the other garage sale regulars was going to come strolling up and grabbing a few of the jewelry boxes. I was speeding through everything. I got very lucky by getting there so early.
I forgot to answer your question. I haven't been scrapping the metals but I would love to try it sometime. I made some calls around and there was a jewelry store that gives 75% of spot, and I've heard from some of the guys who make their living scrapping that there is another person who gives higher---over 90%. I need to gather up all the broken items and take them in.
Well, you raked it in !! The Tiffany may not be Tiffany. There are loads of copies out there. You would need to take it to a certified Tiffany dealer and ask to have it cleaned. If it is refused, it's not Tiffany. The Amber pieces may be Copal, which is non-prehistoric Amber and has a much lesser value. If it shines blue under a UV light, then it's Amber. If not, then it's Copal. I have hallmarked Amber jewelry from Poland and Russia.
Thanks, Bonnie. I've bought some jewelry marked Tiffany before that was fake. This one looks so much better. Fingers crossed. I'll try the black light.
Hi Dee, the glass basket is beautiful; $13? what a deal. have a great day.
Hi Madison. I'm having to rely on memories of this garage sale already. LOL. Sales were terrible today.
Love the butterfly broach and all that gold! Good deal.
Hey there! Thanks for your note. The butterfly pin is one of my favorites too. I've been retired several years now and it's funny. I have all this jewelry and so many fewer places to wear it now.
Hello Dee!!! What great finds!!!Especially that Tiffany necklace and the pin with the pearl.
Hi Joanna! The gold pin with the pearl is a sleeper. So dainty! I need to figure out how to wear it i.e. what type of outfit.
I am not able to see if there is a G and a C in the curves of the "S" on the glass basket, but that would for sure make it LE Smith (Glass Company). It looks like their mark and it is a beautiful piece! You are the bargain queen! All for 13? Wow!
Hi Gayle. I will have to look! I had no idea that's what it was supposed to look like. I love finding a bargain. I'm getting out tomorrow. These days, the company sales are so expensive that I find it hard to get excited to attend them. If there's a family run sale, I'm THERE!
@@livingthegoodlifechannel Not all LE Smith pieces are marked, but the ones that are usually include the G/C for Glass Company within the curves of the "S". I think we all love a bargain, especially if it's on pieces we are drawn to or already collect. I think it's marvelous you have sales to get out for and a friend who can often go with you. Makes it so much more enjoyable! I love that you shop for her too when she can't go. Such a special friendship. Have fun at the upcoming sales and good luck picking!!
Dee, I am just pea green with envy! I must of waded through 50 lbs of silverplated flatware and not one piece of sterling. And you find a sack full of gold for $10! So happy for you!
Hi. I'm not sure if my first message went through. I mentioned that it would probably have been funny to watch me go through all that jewelry so fast. I didn't know when anyone else was going to show up and be competition for me. It has been a long time since I found that much nice jewelry at a nice ---especially a yard sale! I'm sorry about all that digging through silver plate. It's all worth it if you find sterling, but otherwise, all that you are left with are dirty hands.
Dee you amaze me with what you find, all that for 13 dollars wow congrats
Hi Janel. It was a really surprising find. I am so lucky to have gotten there first thing in the morning or it would have all been gone.
Hello Dee and yes I do think it’s LE Smith beautiful ❤and so is everything!
Thanks, Gerry. I finally found a photo of a basket just like mine, and they identified it as LE Smith too.
What a great sale! I'm jealous! I just left a sale where everything that I wanted wasn't for sale. Whole house packed full, picker sale. Found a handful of jewelry and pocket knives. None of it was for sale. Ugh. And every other item she was using Google images to search and give prices on. So I left 😂😂
Hey there! I am starting to hate Google image search. It's really disappointing when I dig around and come up with some things to buy, only to be told that they aren't for sale. I can't imagine opening up a house for sale without knowing what was in all the drawers and cabinets beforehand. I would have left too. I didn't go to any sales today, but I have a few for tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
Awesome haul again! 🍀
Thanks Ruby. I had so much fun getting home and going through everything.
Quite a haul! And for $13, it's a steal!
Hi Nur! So lovely to hear from you. I got home and got my loupe out to check everything. I was happy to see so many nice pieces.
Yeah, beyond a steal. When Miss Dee went in that place they might as well just dumped everything in her bag and said, “Why Miss Dee, this is all for you, don’t bother to pay, and thank you for coming.” 😬
Great find!
Thank you! Even though it's broken, it's nice that it still has value!
You did real well Dee, love what you find. I know your next jewelry video is gonna rock
Thanks, Janel. I found all the items (all but one is jewelry) at one garage sale, and they were very inexpensive. I was so pleasantly surprised when I got home and looked over everything!
First time seeing ice trays like that. How do they work?
Hi Sara. After the water freezes, you hold down the "non-lever" end, and then lift up on the handle. It will crack all the ice in the tray along the lines. They aren't necessarily neat squares of ice, but it's a really satisfying CRACK as you lift up the lever. : ) Memories for me!
Hi Dee, the ice cube trays are a reminder of childhood; I haven't seen any in years. have a great day.
Hi Madison. Aren't those ice cube trays fun?! They look like that they have never been used.
Wherever you live they have the best estate sales ever the one’s where I live the prices are 100 percent higher prices.
Hi Rickey! I am very fortunate to live in an area where people have estate sales and advertise them well. I prioritize family-run estate sales. That's where I find all the really good deals---plus church rummage sales.
Holy cow! Are you a golf magnet? I know, I know. Magnets do not attract gold, but man you sure do. Congrats on a great score.
Hi Jane. I certainly hope that I'm a gold magnet ---as well as a silver magnet!! : )
The first 2 ice cube trays awe such memories. 😊
Hi Tammy. I think so too! It was fun to pull the lever and see the ice cubes crack apart!
Lucky, Lucky, Lucky!!! Go Dee!
LOL!! I was really fortunate to see that Marketplace posting and ask a question. I guess it was a "no stone left unturned" kind of thing.
I love the old ice trays! I have fond memories removing ice from my house in trays like those!
I love them too!! It brings back so many memories. My mom has 3 refrigerators at her house, and I swear that there are still two of those ice trays in one of them!
A can of lard, your cast iron chicken fryer, and you might just be the next Fried Chicken Magnate. I can see it now, an antebellum hoop skirt, cooking around the campfire. Voila, Dee’s Chicken Delight is born. Do you know any venture capitalists? LOL.
Hi Rickey! I could certainly fry up a whole lot of chicken. Plus I'm probably the last generation of young girls that was taught how to cut up a whole chicken. : ) My luck, I would set the skirt on fire.
@@livingthegoodlifechannel I am from Kentucky. I guess I was trying to make light of Harlan Sanders, the founder of KFC. He dressed the part, white suited colonel getup. I live close to ‘My Old Kentucky Home’, Stephen Foster’s residence. The tour guides there dress in the antebellum costumes. We are really nice simple folks here. I remember that cast iron fryer on my Grandparents farm. Early morning often meant fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, sliced tomatoes with gravy, and leftover green beans. They were good, decent, hard working people. I would smell the coffee percolating, before I got a whiff of the fried chicken. Thanks for putting up with me.
@@rickeydonald4756 Hello! My father's side of the family is from Kentucky too. I completely understood where you were coming from. That meal sounds delicious!!
Wow I love your finds, especially the fire king and Pyrex. I would use the one with a chip as a display
Hi Timothy. I hope that all is well with you! I might just file that chipped mixing bowl and use it! It's a good size.
Congratulations on your awesome finds.😊
Thanks Pat! How are you doing? I was thrilled. The house where I found all these items must have been a treasure chest!
Wow. Unbelievable! Saw pictures browsing. Caught my eye & subbed. 👍❤
Hi Roxanna! Thanks for subscribing! I appreciate it. It's nice to interact with people who like the same kind of vintage/antique items. I enjoy the "treasure hunt" aspect of finding items as well as getting to talk to people about them. So many subscribers are able to share their knowledge with me, and I learn a lot!
Hi, Dee: The thing about the chipped items, the chips appear to be minor, and sadly, those items aren't made anymore. When they are all broken, like the creamer, that's it! So don't mind slight chips! (You can take an emery board or artificial nail file to gently smooth small chips on glass and crystal.)
Thank you! Since I have two of the large Fire King Rooster mixing bowls, I am going to file the chip smooth and use it regularly. It will give me a smile every time. I use a couple of Fire King white swirl bowls several times per week.
I like the Fire King and the match box holder. The carved oriental wood box is nice. Have a blessed Sabbath and weekend, Dee. 😊
Hello, Mr. Garland. I hope that you had a good week. It was a scorcher here until today. We are getting a few breaks in the weather and that's a blessing for this time of year when we usually bake. I am very partial to the Fire King myself. My first job on the family farm was to feed the chickens and gather the eggs.
Dee that is the lock for your box! Those style of boxes usually have a fish lock with a rod that holds it in place. 4 estate sales this week and no treasure for me but some useful items,
Hi Robin. It looked like a lock but there's no key even though there is a slot for what looks like a key to be inserted. Well, I am disappointed for you to go to 4 sales and strike out on treasure. At least, you did find some useful stuff which hopefully saved you money in the long run. I have part two of the video next and then....it was a silver and gold day today!!!
I always love finding those little individual salt shakers! Usually, it's just one or two smashed up ones at a time and no box. 😂
Hey there! I seem to have a bunch of those little salt shakers. I cannot imagine having to polish each of them for a dinner party but you likely had servants back then. I had a great day today. I went to one estate sale (horrible) and two garage sales that started at 7 a.m. The second one was a WINNER!
@livingthegoodlifechannel yeah, it's easy to build a collection of those mini shakers. I can't wait to see your finds! We had a good last couple of days here, too!
Dee as usual you aced it, what you paid for everything those chips are no problem. Lookin forward to the second video
Hi Janel. I was very fortunate that the family needed to clear the house and didn't care to keep these contents. I'm happy to have them.
Camphorwood box, I believe - a lock inside. Should be able to slide the bar out but I am not sure it belongs to that particular box. You will have to try it out..
Hi Bonnie. Thanks for the information about the box! I would be floating on air if I could find a sale like this one every week. I went to one estate sale and 2 garage sales today (Friday). The lady who watches Mom couldn't come this week so I couldn't go very far from home. The second garage sale was great! I found several pieces of gold and silver jewelry. I can't wait to show everyone!
Hi Dee, I never saw that rooster pattern before; I hope I find something fun like that at the rummage sale tomorrow. have a great day.
Hi Miss Madison! Good luck at your rummage sale. I was only able to attend three sales this morning but the second one was excellent.
You did it again! Love the fire king and the match box!
Yeah! I'm glad that you enjoyed seeing everything. I'm partial to those rooster Fire King bowls too!
The Fire King and Hazel Atlas are Gorgeous 😍💜💜
Thank you! They are really fun, aren't they. I have never seen the Chanticleer pattern before and I had to look it up on ebay to figure it out.
Looks like you’ve been bitten by the Pyrex bug. It is incurable. LOL.
Hi Rickey! I've had the Pyrex bug for several years now. If I can find them for a good price, they become MINE. LOL.
What a joy to find all that Pyrex!
Hi Gayle. Yes, it was a blast to keep seeing more and more Pyrex on those church rummage sale tables. I couldn't believe it!
Dee yes I enjoyed seeing everything. 😊
Thanks! I had a blast going to that sale even though I got completely messed up on the time that it started. I thought that it was 5:30 pm and it was a 7:00 PM start. I got there over 2 hours early.
Great finds, Dee. I enjoyed your video. Take care 😊
Hello Mr. Garland. I hope that you are enjoying a good week. My mother is back with me now after a few weeks of visiting my brothers. I won't have as much flexibility in getting to the sales but I'm hoping to have a little success.
I'd love to have that milk glass vase......
Hi there! I am so surprised at how many people collect swung vases. There are some amazing collections out there.
@livingthegoodlifechannel : I only have two shorter milk glass, and one taller green glass swung vases.......I don't see them around here very often.
I love the candle stick from Gorham, great Pyrex!
Hi! That poor little Gorham candlestick was once a pretty, dainty little thing, but it's had a hard life. I'm so please with the Pyrex.
@@livingthegoodlifechannel The candle stick has had a hard lifebut to me that makes it more appealing. It has done a good job!
A lovely lot 🙂
Thanks Ruby. I never find that much Pyrex in one place. It was a joy!
Hi Dee, my Mother had the same recipe box. Nice Pyrex collection. have a great day.
Hey Madison. Those colors are very evocative of that time frame. I keep trying to figure out what from the 80s/90s will be collectible. I'm drawing a blank.
Yes the one you said was a charm is a Coptic cross..it has 12 tips to represent the 12 apostles. I need to look up what means . Yes it is a necklace but you could use it however you want to. 😊
Hi Tammy. Thank you very much for all the information on the cross pendant. It's very versatile.
I am finding ickings lean this summer.
I'm sorry, Jane. It can be so frustrating to go out to sales and come home empty handed. I hope that it improves for you soon.
@@livingthegoodlifechannel Remember that Tilley Hat? Bought for a $1 just sold it for $40!
You did great! The cross is a pendant, not a charm. I have a white gold cross pendant about the same size.
Thanks, Bonnie. I'm lucky to find any jewelry these days. One of my competitors mentioned that he went to an estate sale this past Thursday and he was the only one looking at jewelry. He found some great things. I'm happy for me and sad for me. I never could figure out what sale that he was referring to.
Hi Dee, loved looking at the rings but the camera work was a little dizzying. If you can keep the camera a bit more still and bring the rings close one at a time, it'll be easier on the eyes. Thanks for another great video!
I'm so sorry about that, Sara. I was afraid that I was going to bore everyone with ring after ring so I just kept going. I'll try to do better....since I definitely hope that there is a next time on a great jewelry haul.
So nice to have a friend to do this with.
Yes it is great to have a friend with similar interests. Sometimes you need two sets of hands at these sales ...or two sets of eyes!
The Mr. & Mrs. Santa are kissing figurines.
Hey there! Thanks so much for letting me know. That was one set that I wasn't 100% sure about as to age but for $2, I took a chance.
