- Here you can see an Onboard-Qualifying-Lap with Alain Prost in Suzuka from the Formula 1 Season 1989!
You can only hear the fantastic noise of the Honda Engine!
Clean and smooth. Cleanest driving in F1 history.
Senna was way better than him destroyed him with almost half a second or even more every quali.
@@raychev982 In 1988 and 1989, the McLaren was so dominant that Prost could go into qualifying with a full race setup and almost always still end up P2 on the grid. Senna, who would go full out qualifying setup to beat everyone over a single lap, would then be compromised for the race compared to Prost. That is why there is sometimes massive gaps in lap time between the two in this era. You don't win 51 races and 4 titles against competition like Senna, Piquet, Mansell, etc without being clever. They didn't call Prost "the professor" for nothing.
@Flared we can give monaco for a proof where he crashed after 55sec gap. Respect to all.
@@raychev982 He still crashed though. May have got an incredible pole lap and had a 55 second lead, but Senna still got 0 points that day.
I know questioning Senna being the greatest driver ever is sacrilege in some people's eyes, but he was beaten by other drivers in races. Prost was the closest teammate Senna ever had in his career and beat him on several occasions, not only as teammates at McLaren but also in other cars.
Hes slow. Thats why hes smooth.
I love how he rev matches from 6th to 3rd in order to not have to go through all the gears. Just one big throttle blip to match and he's back on it.
Amazing how this smooth driving style can go up against a driving style that looks on the ragged edge.
0:50 that blockshifting tho.. so smooth and perfectly timed. I love watching Sennas crazy laps but sometimes it’s nice to watch a more relaxed looking lap (that was still super quick)
I prefer senna... But prost's driving style is just soooo smooth, almost like jim clark, there's no doubt that him and senna are two of greatest
personally i think prost was better because he was more consistent.
@@kimiraikkonen949 true but rememember that ayrton lost the 1989 title due to bad luck throughout the year... but we also have to remember that alain despite being as consistent as possible lost 4 titles due to bad luck and not really good rules.
@@pianortd4800 i mean i wouldn’t consider being favored by mclaren and personally having a better engine from honda being unlucky. and senna was known for being very brutal on his equipment while prost was very gentle which is why prost was more consistent
@@kimiraikkonen949 being brutal still doesn't explain why senna had so many dnfs due to reliability... he also had electronic failures ecc...
@@kimiraikkonen949 also those are only rumours, if he really had a better engine then he wouldn't have had that many dnfs...
Man i loved the 80s and 90s F1..True drivers
Same with the motorcycle racing. 80's and 90's. And 70's.
Sublime - I could watch him all day long
Aí ele tinha carro sobrando pra contra atacar. Um estrategista!
sound is so amazing, from a world class racer
On track, I strive for the smooth steering inputs of Prost, but I do use the jabbing throttle inputs of Senna. My two heroes.
Senna set pole but in the race Prost pulled out a lead and it took Senna most of the race playing catch up, then Senna tried a desperate move because he was not fast enough to get past.
I came here just because of that
Actually prost did an amazing setup for create a gap on the straights, senna was faster in all the circuit but he lost all of his advantage on the straights, the only point where he could've overtake prost was the chicane
beautiful dribing !
Great sound and driver!!
Alain Prost the best driver of his time and so many people miss out by being completely taken in by the Senna myth.
Senna was a great driver but Prost was better.
Maybe it's better that way.
That Alain was trully appreciated by the few that can really understand driving and racing.
The man was even hated by his compatriots and had to leave his country FFS.
And yet the most knowledgeable people involved in F1 at least give him credit for what he was, the best ever.
Christos Segkounas.
Thanks for a very clear comment.
So often people are so taken in by the Senna movie that they call Prost a coward, mediocre driver etc. I have Sir Jackie Stewarts book and he rates Senna as very fast, his opinion is that Senna was fast but you could see how hard he was trying while Prost was also fast and he made it look easy. That according to Stewart is pure driving.
I see no reason for anyone to to be rude about Prost.
Barrie Rodliffe no he wasnt. He was too overrated being called the professor while he was being completaly beaten By Senna. He is a very good driver, even better than schumi but Senna was much better
bozo.
Prost was called the professor because he so often managed to win in inferior cars, Prost worked at setting up the car and he was able to make cars look good even if they were not. Senna only won 6 races in his first 4 years before he got into the McLaren team. Prost had come very close to winning 3 titles in his first 4 years and Prost always had far better team mates, Senna refused to have Warwick at Lotus.
You are just not letting this shit die are you?
best line !!!!!!!!
smooth technique, ever
This guy means business. Alain was Ayrton's rival and my idol is Senna, but having such a rival required a nemesis of equal stature. Enough said?
This
Awesomeness
Surprised to see NO SHIFTING thru the ESSES. Not until Dunlop.
Sublime, suave. Um dos top 5 all time.
?
prost didn’t focus on qualifying so you can’t really compare the laps. prost put his full focus in the race
This man only has the patience for one downshift per corner.
Is it me or does he jump down gets e.g. 5th to 2nd at the hairpin? I thought you couldn't jump gears in the H pattern F1 cars?
F1 cars decelerate so quickly that he can make that quick jump in downshifts.
Block shifting, can easily break the gearbox if you miss. Senna would almost never skip gears, would go through the whole gearbox and revmatch every shift.
The original smooth operator... Look at that downshifting
Was this pole ?
Faster than senna 💀
Was he skipping gears on the downshifts? What a contrast to Senna.
I think it shows how good he really was, he matched revs consistently. Also, he was known to upshift two at a time exiting hard accelerating corners to minimize tyre wear.
He was rarely the fastest on a single lap but he was so good in full race length.
Ive hated on this for years but i will admit he does take the shallow turns better. Only because he is so much slower. Ayrton was a wild horse. A stallion running free for once. Prost practiced and tuned for control of the track. Thats why he never will be a real racer
from the second corner he lost the pole
+javier garrido
But before the first corner Senna lost the race.
+Barrie Rodliffe And do not forget with the action of balestre, the great prost friends
+javier garrido
What action from Balestre who hated Prost?
+Barrie Rodliffe balestre wanted to harm to senna to benefit of prost, almost repeats itself the same thing in 1990. Prost was a great pilot but Senna is better than as pilot and as person
+Barrie Rodliffe good point...
throttle control no where near Ayrton
Jonathan Chen thats why he was always slower
bozo.
Is that why Senna was slower so often, even when he had more power?
Barrie Rodliffe bla bla show me proof uglyass
bozo.
Proof that you are stupid, I do not need to, you manage that very well.
Prost actually gets on the throttle earlier than Senna... spends less time jabbing around on and off ...much cleaner throttle style
