At SHOT Show 2023 I spoke with Justin Smith from RCBS about their new die sets, which include 7mm PRC! This is my first hands-on opportunity to try them, and that's what I cover in this video!

I use the RCBS dies. I like the seating die the seating stem has 28tpi so 1/6 of a turn =~ .006" not a true micrometer but close enough for my hand loads, I can usually keep the seating depth plus or minus .001".
As for the sizing die I like that I can remove the de-capping pin for resizing pre-primed brass.
When I first got into reloading about 20 years ago, it was suggested I use RCBS dies. Not knowing I did purchase them. After endless stuck cases, crushed cases, inconsistent coal, I switched to Lee and never looked back.
Not enough lube (stuck csse)
Crush cases dies setup wrong
@@reedbooth543 RCBS junk, never happens with the Lee dies.
Ok I'm glad you found dies that work for you. I've had good luck with rcbs stuff. Have a nice day
@@reedbooth543 Thankyou, you as well. Stay safe and happy shooting.
I bought the decapping die and a mandrel so i have more consistsnt bullet tension. I still use the hornady match grade resizing die. Keep that brass annealed and it last a long time
You're literally the only person that hornady will supply
When will we see a .257 PRC?
Going to give reloading a try. I am also thinking about a gun vice. I noticed on a variety of videos a conventional steel vice lined with, I presume, soft jaws.
What size vice would you recommend?
What do you like to line the jaws?
Thanks in advance.
Rcbs is quality, I prefer Redding though.
I had to double check the videos you have posted.
It would be good to see a head to head with the Hornady "Match" FL Bushing die set, Redding Competition S FL Bushing and the RCBS Matchmaster FL.
I went to Hornady after being a long time RCBS man due to availability and I started using A-match and my regular RCBS's (Non mic) wasnt doing me any favours.
Biggest issue with living down under.... Everything I see you getting will take 6-12 months to filter out here from the regular distributors, direct ordering can be a pain in the arse
Do the 6mm prc
Where are the matchmaster dies?!
7:40 in.
@@yukon4545 good man
You turned down the resizing die "three small turns" before getting the proper case resize. So in total would you say you went one full turn down?
I will wait until I can get better brass than Hornady and until redding Type S FL bushing dies go down on cost 🤣🤣 I have a Howa 1500 action ready to send to the gunsmith to chamber it to 7mm prc
Wish they had better seating stem selection offerings. Rcbs would be great then! It’s Redding & Forster dies for me!
I really dislike the seating stem on the RCBS also.
Surely they can come up with a better system, micro adjusting is a pain..
I talk trash about Hornady on every reloading channel and they don't have a word. They know they're garbage
Is it worth replacing the 7mm remag? The total ball speed and energy are not much different from the 7mm remag. For the 300prc, heavier and longer bullets than the 300winmag were loadable and provided more powder, improved speed and energy, but for the 7mm prc, there doesn't seem to be a full advantage to change the 7mm remag that I've been using.
think the general vibe is dont bother if you have a rem mag, particularly if it has a custom chamber allowing longer seating and higher than normal twist rate. But if your getting a new rifle, get the PRC not the rem mag.
Will the match Masters work with a Forester?
The matchmaster dies will be cool to see. Hopefully their performance is as repeatable as the rest.
How does one cast a resizing die for measurement?
When will there be a 8, 9 and 10 PRC?
2 weeks
Who comes up with these designer calibers?
Seemingly, Hornady does. 🤔
I think a 7mag with a long throat is better.
Nobody ever said it wasn’t. But for those that don’t want to buy custom barrels and have them throated specifically for long bullets the prc is better. As you get that on factory guns.
Another PRC…….meh. Yawn.
Regarding the clicker issues with the PRCs, that is a reamer issue, not a die issue.
That’s what I was thinking too. I just don’t really see it filling a niche that is missing. We have 338 lapua and 338 norma and 300 norma in addition to the 6.5 PRC and 300 PRC. All those rounds do pretty much the same thing. Ammo companies need to focus on just bringing the cost down of ammo for now and quit releasing more cartridges that very few people will buy at the hyper inflated prices.
Rcbs didn't have any so I had to go with hornady
I will be buying rcbs 99% of my reloading dies are rcbs can't go wrong with green
Junk dies and a pointless cartridge. Next.
Somebody doesn’t like evolution
@@slednck700 he’ll stick with his 30-06 and .308win 😂
Wonder if they have the clicker issue worked out on these dies.
clicker?
@@jmkhenka The PRC cases are known for sticking after a few firings and not resizing properly near the base. The "click" comes from the stuck case being released loudly by the bolt (if it doesn't break something like an extractor or case rim). Some people have the issue on the first reload even with full length sizing. Some cases are better than others (ADG are harder thus more likely to have problems, Hornady are softer).
