I wanted the ULTIMATE 7mm PRC rifle, and this story covers what I envisioned, why 7mm PRC was chosen, and how I built, Cerakoted, and laser engraved this rifle! Because this rifle has "1776" in the serial number, we decided to name it the "Freedom Rifle"!

The rifle looks incredible! The grouping was awesome! Your attention to detail is impeccable! I give it a 12 out of 10! You are a legend in the making!
That rifle was expertly built work extremely well done that 7 mm prc cartridge will do the trick for competition and hunting
Looking good Gavin!
Glad all the new tooling is working for you!
Thanks- really happy with the tooling ideas I got from you- including VNMG inserts/holders- getting the formula down!
You are a great teacher!
Frank green at bartlein is the man. Makes the best barrels. Hands down. No one is even close.
This was a great build. I prefer 3 lug actions, but I rarely see any custom builds using three lug actions. Most seem to be some variant of the Rem 700 action.
Really nice work. Let’s see some groups now…5 shot groups.
You got a nice setup. I used to build precision rifles before I retired. Used to use a long stem indicator and dialed in on both sides. Different way of doing things but we all get to the same end product. Used to be a certified cerakote applicator. You did a excellent job on the cerakote.
If I didn't already have a .270 WSM the 7mm PRC would be a great choice for a do everything cartridge !
The WSM cartridges are under-appreciated. I had a 300 WSM for quite a few years and found it to be accurate & powerful. Am sure your 270 WSM works great!
If you tight-twist the 270 WSM and spit Bergers out, it really does well at ELR and most of your elk hunting distances. The 7mm with 175s, 180s, and 195gr EOL extend the ethical hunting reach for competitive PRS and LR shooters who get regular trigger time at distance, and know their limits.
270 WSM with 170gr Berger EOL at 2800fps is great out to 900yds for elk, which beyond the capabilities of I’d say 95-98% of big game hunters with a tag, not knocking them, just reality.
7mm PRC will get you to 1300yds in the same conditions (22.92” Hg barometric pressure at elk altitudes in Rockies and Uintahs), with 180gr ELD-M at 2950fps. For LR elk hunters, that’s where it really comes into play.
For hunts within 600yds, it won’t matter. Wind drift and drop favor the 7mm PRC of course across the flight path.
Nice Job! Love the chambering and your first group. It must be a thrill to see it all come together. Mastery from thought to paper to paper. Excellent work Sir! Your skill may lost on some. But this is like putting a Top Fuel Funny Car into 4 sec bracket on your very first run. "Design it, build it, fly it, break it, make it better" Quote Mike Patey Now I another hero!
This is almost my exact dream rifle build!
Helped a friend build something similar but we used a chassis with folding stock and ditched the mag for traditional bottom meta. Much lighter and more reliable. After handling it. I think folding stock has a great benefit to the hunter.
This is great stuff to watch if you want to be put to sleep. Worked great for me.

Beautiful work man.
Cool video. Enjoy the process and write up. Not necessarily into custom builds like you are, but always learn stuff. Thanks!
Awesome job! Great looking rifle.
And that barell is good for about 1000 rounds traveling at 3000 fps with a 1 in 8 twist rate! Great rifle as long as you have the money to shell out for a new barell every 1000 rounds.
You have the money to pump 1k rounds out of it you probably have the money for another one. Besides that would probably only blow out the groups a 1/4 to a half inch at 100 with serious use over 1k rounds. It's not like the rifle won't work or be accurate to an extent
Not only that, guy has a 17k dollar lathe behind him lmao
Waiting for this video was brutal.. thanks! Finally!!!
Amazing. I'm jealous. Beautiful job.
Gavin, I’d have say to you’ve got a smokin hot build there in probably the sweetest caliber to hit the market in years, at least for hunting. Had to clarify that, there have been many great match grade calibers. Still say you do some great work, having been accused of being a little obsessive compulsive myself it’s easy to appreciate going above and beyond. But you can never argue with the results and that’s what tells the tale. Once again Thank You for sharing.
ohhh shes a beauty
This came together nicely!
Nice build Gavin, although I think a BAT action always looks better nitrided in-house by BAT or left stainless. A cerakote finish doesn’t quite reflect the quality of such a high-end action.
Lasering looks awesome!
I absolutely love everything about this rifle, aside from maybe the scope, but I have to say that this is my dream build
If I were ever to save up for a custom rifle, I would love for you to build it. Don’t think it would be realistic though, living in Canada.
You’d have to get it imported through someone like Prophet River or iRunguns…not a real big deal for a non restricted from what I’ve been told
Didnt canada just take your hand guns
Its pretty big for a handgun
@@Peter-od7op Trudeau did, no idea how the clown keeps getting in. Everyone outside of Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal despise him. Not going to get a handgun built though.
@@georgewilson60 thanks, I will look into it.
Awesome Awesome job Gavin!!!!
I love everything about this rifle build! I hope someone offers a stock rifle just like this!
Nice gun have 2 7prc gun have 26.imch.barell both under half inch ...the guy who bought blackhound lives near me ..getting righ at 3000 175 hornday. Its one of my fav calb
I got no problem buying high dollar rifles. Here’s my take though. If I want a cookie cutter rifle I’ll just go to cabelas.
If I want a custom, I’ll personally speak to my smith, get his opinions, and build a rifle I love.
Your build quality looks great. No need for a sun shade in most cases. The scope that’s mounted looks way close to the chassis forearm upper with the sun shade installed.
Make something different. Build a nice mountain rifle with the newer aluminum/steel actions. Not EVERY rifle needs a pic rail. Tons of things you can do other than just building 15lbs rifles.
Btw Bat Machine is amazing!
This rifle looks absolutely amazing. I noticed the rings encroach in the breach of the action. Has that given you any headache?
A sweet spot set up rifle and cartridge.
Nice rifle brother. Way to go!👍👍
Would love to see a review of the scope
Beautiful Rifle.
It’s a very well put together build, have you thought about putting this rifle into limited production, you would own the market in the short term I would guess and if you did do a limited production run what would a price point be ballpark?
Outstanding rifle 🤤I am having a current rifle build going on right now in 7 prc. Based on Zeus by Terminus in L/A qc
Doing good one thing we use painting holes and race ways are disposable ear plugs don't know if you tried that
Wow.. What a beauty Gav.. The Skills are Pilling up!
Nice looking rifle
Bartlein barrels are the way to go.
When you are Cerakoting the barrel, are you also Cerakoting the crown as well?
You need to try the SPHUR mount for your optic. You will never go back
can't wait to get some brass next century! way to go hornady!
While I'm sure this is a fine rifle, may I suggest a change in production? On the right side of the rifle, you have an improperly displayed US flag. It shows a flag with the stars to the rear of the gun. That is considered a flag in retreat. A correctly displayed flag always have the Stars leading. I know... it's too picky... but. Thanks.
I didnt see anything being mentioned about magazine lenght that went in to this build...could you be please provide insight on that?
Big Fan!! Beautiful Gun
Why 28 inch barrel?
Would 26 inch barrel shoot any different except for a little lighter
Thank you! Why 28"? Because I wanted to contrast shortest practical barrel (22", see my 7mm PRC Bergara build) with longest practical (28") to capture the performance envelope of the 7mm PRC.
Fantastic build and now that I just purchased my 6.5 PRC mg lite that you reviewed a while back, I now am even more interested in having this setup built. What are we looking at for price in this build? Keep up the great work, a real fan of your professionalism.
Could you please share borescope video/photos of chamber after reaming, especially in throat area, thanks.
I love the build and your skills are 2nd to none. I’m always shocked that, with rifles of this caliber, that the optics that are chosen are not to the same caliber of the rifle. I know you have the Leupold Mark 5HD that you have used, but this rifle, especially, deserves some top tier glass! Maybe a Nightforce ATACR in Dark earth, or a Vortex Razor HD Gen 3? Or something even more like a Schmidt Bender?
Anyways, I’m always fascinated by your work! Great stuff!
Lol,yeah lets throw another $2500.00 plus on top of what he's already put into it!
@@Healthliving1967 Yes, that’s what the rifle deserves.
Awesome rifle. I have an American Ruger 7 prc. Would that chasi fit my ruger.
pls make ur this available in Canada.
How do you adjust the chamber if it´s too loose? Do you just tighten the barrel a little bit more, or do have to put it in the lathe and remove material so it can go deeper in the action?
It tightens up against the shoulder cut on the barrel, so it has to be cut down on the lathe
Want to know what I think about the build, Jealous 👍, very nice and love the laser work, gave me another great idea for my next build, thanks for the inspiration 🤔
Hey Gavin! Any idea when we'll start seeing factory rifles in 7PRC on shelves?
Not sure, should be pretty soon I would hope!
Hello, I really like what you did to this rifle, and I'm going to be going to gunsmithing school after machinist school. the things you do I will have questions soon, and hoping to meet you in a while.
I don’t suppose you’d be able to check how the 7prc fits in a tikka magazine? I have a new barrel inbound.
Build looks Great. Would like to know more about 7mm PRC and BlackHound.
Love it, ship it international please
Gun looks awesome . How much time in build Start the finish Cost
What is the opening length on the bottom of the action? Is it the 3.8 or just long action length to accommodate the cip mags?
Hey great video I built a flushing system, question what do you use as a lubricant/coolant in the system? What pressure range?
Just what would the 1776 rifle sell for?
Really enjoyed this video. The built was great and the rifle looks amazing. One question, what's the weight of the finished rifle? If it's 10.5 lbs or less the amazing factor, for me anyway, goes way up. Really love the rifle. Great video.
Hey Gavin, what do you think of the Blackhound scope? I've been trying to find info and opinions on them (especially the Emerge line), but haven't found enough from people who's opinion I value yet. Any input on your part?
So if i were to build this rifle as seen here, what would i be looking at price wise? About 4000?
Action = 2000
Barrel=1000
Chassis=1500
Glass I’m unaware with
Trigger 2-300
Bipod = 500
Rough idea for you plus machine work is another 1500 approximately
Beautiful work. Some day. Some day.
When do you project building custom rifles for customers
i want one
Love it.
So this magazine will work with 338 Lapua and 7prc?
Regarding the double coating of cerakote; How long do you wait in between coats? Do you oven cure the first coat?
It’s about 5 minutes between coats, then 15 minutes flash time before oven curing
@@Ultimatereloader Thanks, I'm going to try it.
@@davidgoldberg you can just use c series that’s what I cerakoted all my 12 scopes and 3 red dots muzzle breaks ADM scope mounts and several brands of scope rings with as well stocks and rifles and shotgun with will hold up longer as a factory oven cured job I have factory oven cured hand guards and receivers upper lower wearing through to ugly shiny metal but going over black hard coat anodized metal is better when banging stuff around just the black will show through not shiny uncoated metal easy to do camo patterns too
@@bnicedanicest6288 I'll check it out. Thanks
How did u like scope
What is the contour of the Bartlein barrel blank you used?
Awesome rifle Gavin! Are you going to do a load development video for it?
What magazine did you use for 7prc? I have a rifle and chassis I am considering swapping to 7prc but it uses a 3.715” aics magazine. Will 7prc feed from a 300WM magazine or does it need a 300prc magazine since it’s a larger case body dimension?
300WM or longer will work!
Do you have a link to the other 7 PRC Rifle.
I am just getting in to the sport of shooting. I am struggling with what caliber to get in to. I built my first rifle tht took my first white tail. 6.5 CM AR10: proof 26inch carbon barrel: jp low mass bcg etc. still weighs 13 lbs…. Looking to build a bolt action on the hnt26 platform. 7prc or 300prc. I want to cover elk and moose with one rifle…. I feel 7prc may be too small? Wonderful classy cerakote and thanks for the content.
You will be completely fine to take out any North American game with the 7MM PRC. Shot placement is always important but the cartridge has more than enough energy to efficiently kill large game.
Either will do the job in North America. Heck I’m still using the old school cartridges (.243win and .270win)
Is go 300 Norma
For perspective, nobody would bat an eye at using a 7mm rem mag on a moose. And for comparison, the 7mm PRC holds an extra 370 ft lbf of energy out at 500 yards (comparing the 162 eldx vs 175 eldx). Depending on the environmentals where you hunt, your energy is going to stay above 2000 all the way out to 600-700 yards. So you’d be perfectly fine hunting moose with the 7 PRC in my opinion.
I am debating that too. I like Norma a lot, but I feel like I would like to better understand reloading before I pulled that trigger.
What magazine are you using to feed the rifle?!
M24 barrel profile?
I'm pretty new to all of this. I have a 700 la in 30-06. The case head is larger than 30-06 so the bolt won't work (I'm assuming). Do I need a magnum action, or do I need to replace the bolt?
Gavin , i have several 7mm
From 28 nos 7rum 7stw. So now other than lower powder how is this so much better ? I was just going have a 7saum built to have a sa 7mm. So sell me this prc when i its a long action as all my other 7mm's.. Thanks for good work
What was the rifles total finished weight?
Bring the 7mm STW to the lathe and get one build brother. I’ll buy it
I was listening close but didn’t hear it (I may have missed it because of kids). I got the 28” bladder blank but what was the contour?
What did this rifle weigh? I am looking at building something similar in 7 prc
I would like to know how to get in touch with you about a build like baraga 7prc
Have you heard anything about the 25 PRC coming out? A buddy said that hornady was coming out next year with it. If so I'm jumping on that one for sure.
I wish Hornady would come out with a short action ultra magnum
@@TheJimbo76239 Remington already did that 20 years ago
Reintroduce the 250 Savage
@@hewlett260 Remington made a 25 PRC 20 years ago?
@@J-Plata-84 read his comment that I responded to, a short action ultra mag with no caliber assigned
How much do I have to pay for you to make me one of these? 😅
i would like to know if a AR10 /LR10 could be chambered with a 284 win ok i am sure it could but will the mag feed that cartridge
Can this be bought from you? Or your local FFL?
Steven- you can get in on the waitlist at rifles.ultimatereloader.com !
Can u make me one
How much is a rifle like this worth?
probably close to the $10K mark
Would you sell it?
Still no ammo or brass available. Idk what hornady’s strategy is but im pretty sure that aint it
Rcc has brass, plus its been what a week since release? Do you already have a rifle in hand for it?
@@BcFuTw9jt no. But i see all these youtubers been shooting it for some time now. Id figure theyd have availability ready to go with all the hype they’re giving it. Im not buying a rifle that idk if i can get components for just yet
@@BcFuTw9jt yeah rcc has brass….at $6.18 PER CASE!! No f’n way is anyone gonna pay that. So there is essentially no brass
Prc i think is alot of hype
🙆👍😀😃😄
7-33 NOSLER IS FAR FAR BETTER WITH A .555 BASE CASE , THE 2.460 CASE LENGTH ALOWS BULLET SEATING OUT OF THE POWDER OF THE CASE, WHILE BEING ABLE TO USE A STANDARD LENGTH AICS MAG! WITH .838BC 190GRN A-TIP BULLETS!
I NEED AMMO
But your flag is in retreat
youd be surprised at how many people dont know this... the US flag should always have the stars facing forward
That rifle looks amazing! I’ve always had a soft spot for the .284 species. However I think I’m going to unsubscribe because today with inflation and ground beef costing 8.99 a pound I don’t feel goodies like this rifle are relevant in this economy. This is not a working man’s rifle. Good luck with all your future endeavors.
Rest in spaghetti never forghetti
This is better than the other one..1 in 8 good, 28 inch is overkill, 26 is enough! Save the 28 for 300PRC. Colour scheme and printing is shitful. Have a look at GC Precision Developments for fucking nice looking guns!
I looked at GC precision. I don’t like the looks of those guns…but I also understand that cosmetics are subjective. Why shit on something someone else is proud of just because you’d have done it differently?
