I really hope they don't nerf it because it's actually fun now and I see the lack of mobility as a fair tradeoff. Necro is like a slow, but dangerous valley of death. To me that fits with what you would expect with a melee necro archtype. I mean, even the core staff necro in celestial is near unkillable while still doing great damage. It's just fun, leave it alone, in pvp we can easily be countered due to animation length and lack of mobility.
oh thank goodness, i boosted my necro after playing ranger & guard, free cele gear, then realised everyone was goin for viper builds... booo... but in fact it does not matter so much (like much of GW2 if you don't take it too seriously)... it's about fun
What makes reaper so broken now that every other class needs to be buffed? It got a 4k dps increase, bringing it inline with the other meta specs and now its too good? What? Please explain. We didnt even hit the 40k mark yet
Ah the Reaper, my number 2 spec. If you want to be unstoppable, you can stack Carapace (Death Magic spec) and Might. You'll get a balance of damage and survivability -- removing conditions every 3s while in shroud offsets the need to get out of shroud to remove conditions. Deadly Strength adds +10 power/stack of Carapace -- you get 5 stacks of Carapace when you enter Shroud, that's +50 power on top of your Might stacks. Carapace also reduces the condition damage on you and if you pick Augury of Death, you get AoE Life Siphon every time you shout "ouch!" The selling point for me is 25 stacks of Caparace = 250 power and 500 toughness.
Necromancer is my main and I've run reaper for a long time. Although my preference is and always will be scourge I have a fondness for condi reaper. If you want an open world reaper build I'd say either go Valkyrie with a few pieces of Dragon's gear with decimate defenses to get 30k health. You should be fine. I'd drop a couple of damage traits such as spiteful talisman for bitter chill and close to death for dread. With your chill application you'll be able to maintain 25 stacks of vulnerability which is higher overall damage than the 10% gives you from talisman and dread helps to maintain your fury uptime. With those two you can maintain more consistent damage and insure with Valkyrie gear using decimate defenses you'll have 100% chance to critical hit. You could also go spellbreaker runes with this set up and a single precision infusion to get 100% chance to crit as well if that's what you want. You'll be able to run sigil of force and impact so you'll still have good damage in open world. If you have more confidence than that I'd suggest going full berserkers and run the raid build with 3 modifications to the build. First, run Chill to the bone, second run Consume condition and third run dread. The DPS loss from close to death isn't needed in open world especially, but having that higher fury and quickness uptime is premium. In longer fights it'll make a big difference. Stick to the target and just unleash with your skills. Timidness is how you die on reaper. Be aggressive. Now you do have some options. Staff or Axe+focus/warhorn both have their advantages. Staff has better range while axe+focus has better life force sustain but worse quickness uptime and running warhorn and axe has worse damage overall but can help with that dread uptime. Staff's life force gen isn't as good as axe+focus and it requires soul marks to really keep up in some capacity so you can't take unyielding blast but its range just trumps axe in my opinion giving you an option when you're trying to engage due to how slow you tend to be. If you're wondering how much my soul spiral is doing with this set up? 50-70k in open world on average. Why you shouldn't run as much might as CDG in the video. You'll be over capping on might. With just an opener within the first couple seconds you should generate 18 stacks of might. Chances are you'll kill something in that time so you'll be at 21 stacks. You keep auto attacking you'll be gaining 15 seconds of one stack every auto hit. At 50% increase attack speed you're getting 3 a second while in shroud. I hover around 20-25 on engage and that's IF I haven't gotten the jade bot buff active, and if I have that active I maintain 25 without issue. There's also longer fights which you'll be able to maintain that might without issue. Basic reaper rule. Be as aggressive as possible. You're not frail, hit hard, keep hitting, stay in shroud for 15 seconds, drop out and use your skills and get right back in once its off cooldown. Condi reaper is a bit different. Its more difficult to run but hits just as hard. You use some interesting setups with it swapping between scepter+dagger and greatsword for high chill uptime. It can be quite fun to run but it isn't nearly as good in open world as power reaper is.
I'm currently building my Scourge for fractals, got a few pieces of ascended gear already. Do you think condi scourge falls too behind when compared to reaper (power or condi) on instanced pve content? I don't really care about open world.
@@f_hopeless Scourge's primary advantage is its range. It can begin an assault sooner or take its safty at range and still maintain its DPS uptime. As far as damage goes its the weakest of the 3 elite specs. Its still quite good though as its floor for damage is low skill intensity. Although its shade uptime and life force management can be tricky if you want to squeeze out as much damage as possible. Scourge's damage is respectable. You shouldn't have an issue doing decent damage and if you get good at it you can out DPS most pugs. To answer your question, I'd say it doesn't fall too far behind to be a solid choice.

I use celestial reaper in open world the lord hizen build because the shroud management is so easy but in Harvest temple cm the reaper is so good because of the cleave damage. Love the video!

The rotation just feels so good and intuitive that even after they nerfed it, back when, I let it be as my main necro open world build. Your tips on the update are appreciated.
I'm not sure were you're getting that Reaper was nerfed in PvE. Reaper was never good in PvE baring that one time reaper was using the Minion Master build that broke raids and fractals in half with 12+ jagged horrors. Unless you're talking right before PoF when the condi build took a hit? But power reaper has been terrible for years and only in the last year or so has it been okay. NOW its strong.
The Eternal Shroud build has always been bonkers, and now it is just Ultra Instinct silly. Change you spite line to 1-3-2. The rest stays as you have it. Open world of course. The build differs a bit when you have friends around. Run Blood Fiend, Well of Darkness, Signet of Undeath, Signet of Spite, and then whatever you like. Plaguelands if you want max damage. I usually run golem because it destroys break bars. Greatsword and whatever you like really. Axe/Warhorn used to be mandatory, but the staff buff was crazy enough to make it more than viable. Focus is still basically a pvp weapon, but if you know a mob will have 3+ buffs at some point, feel free to run focus. 5 hits like a truck on buffed targets. Full berserker, scholar runes, Force/Impact, yada yada. The idea here, is to always be in shroud. Do the greatsword skills, drop the well, enter shroud. There's a lot of fun stuff in shroud, but the reality is (and it sucks, not gonna lie) just use Soul Siphon and auto attacks. It's the highest dps, by a pretty big margin. Work in shroud 5 when things are below 50%. Before that, only use them when a breakbar needs busting, or you need to move (de-target, point where you want to go, and shroud 2). You will easily be in shroud for 30 seconds, assuming you aren't face tanking every red circle you see. When you exit, if in execution window, just use greatsword 2 until shroud is off cooldown, otherwise cycle through the big shroud generators (the 2 skills) to make sure shroud is full after the cooldown ends.
The big thing that made reaper huge this patch is that they already did good open world solo damage, because, while their base damage was typically less than most jobs, they can provide themselves full uptime of so many buffs (25 might, fury, quickness, 25 vuln on enemy) and get 75% of their crit purely from traits allowing them to wear almost full valk equipment to be durable as hell. but when you were in raids, and buffs were gonna be up on everyone, you lost that "advantage" you had and the lack of damage started to show. but now that they buffed reapers to be more in line with other classes damage in raids, they now get good base damage AND their buffs letting them do 14-18k dps purely on their own with valk gear, it's nuts. going into fractals with a full reaper team is pure memes, since everyone does tons of damage while being able to manage themselves so no healer is needed.

Can the reaper use a scythe style weapon? I love that about reaper in ff14. Just curious! I see some videos with scythes, and some with swords. Unsure as a new player with only a level 20 how that works.
Zhed's armour is zerker I think. Its pretty cheap. It would be runes and sigils that inflate the cost. I think I might be running eagle runes but scholars are popular too. Sigils of force and impact for weapons.
Try signet build with trait where signets stay active in shroud that IS durable reaper :D my pick for open world :) or cele burno reaper :D or Viper bleed 40+k dps reaper xD

So who even gets kill credit in this game? The person who knocks down the enemy or the person or finishes them? I like everything about this game so far other than this knock down idea, which is arguably the worst mechanic I have ever seen implemented in a video game of any genre since the inception of the entire industry. Its not a thing that belongs in MMO pvp. It may or may not be that bad, but I hate killing people twice. Wastes everyones time.
For open world you just need to do some modest damage to the enemy to get kill credit. For WvW same. For either of these, you can then literally AFK nearby and still get kill credit when someone else kills the thing. For PVP, you actually have to do a final kill strike or do the hit to get the player to 0HP to get the kill count in stats.
@@gailjoe7217 so its who takes them to 0 hp after they are down? Knocking them down doesn't count as your kill if someone else kills them from knockdown state? If so they should flip that like every other game with a knock down mechanic.

My only character is a Human Power Reaper. Like I say: I r Reaper, I r smort! The patch has made hitting things even more fun. Even the Shouts feel stronger. Just remember, kids- don't Leeroy your way into battle, that's the Flesh Golem's job! And our motto is "Just keep hittin' 'til it quits twitchin'!" Fun? Oh yes.
Old Guild Wars veteran here ... just only recently got my heart to play Guild Wars 2.
I like the open questing and basicaly you can play how you want. Weapon switch mid battle.... what a masterpiece my ranger found peace...
Thou some things i HEAVY dislike. Im only at lv 20 rn but i seem to lack a kind of main quest line idk if someone can help me with that here 😅
And well... wheres my mesmer anti regeneration from the start.... 😢
My nekro minions at the start and in soo confused by the skill trees 😂😂😂
All in all i will start and keep playing Guild Wars 2 ^^
If someone is up to play my Rangers name is Artio Helvetica ^^ am a swiss dude and played mmorpg my whole life like a maniac starting with lord of the Rings online and Guild Wars ^^ ❤😂
Ahh yes a gamer with class!
o hi there sam and dean 😎
A+++ use of The Winchesters as a clip in this!
Nobody ever mentioned that! Thank you!
There are so many reapers in the game right now this is not counting the afk/bots alike.
It's a Reapers world, we Re just living in it!
Planning to try him as a cryomancer.
Chilling!
They nerfed Signets of Suffering, this pretty much made my build useless as I was reliant on vampirism in shroud to heal me back to full. I used to be able to solo group bosses but not anymore as I can't heal in shroud.
Also, shout out to my roomie who did the initial sketch of the 110% Goose
I appreciate it!
Reap has always been my main since I started playing this game 81 days ago....they better leave this alone I love my necro..
Hahaha leave my reaper alone
still looking for an active guild, also what should i play to be a pure healer?
Can the reaper use a scythe style weapon? I love that about reaper in ff14. Just curious! I see some videos with scythes, and some with swords. Unsure as a new player with only a level 20 how that works.
The scythe only show up when you enter the shroud, like in ffxiv where you turn into spooky ghost. Only staff weapons have scythe skins.
How is the reaper now 4 months later? I'm about to level up that specialization.
Still an absolute monster to be honest. Tanky high damage sustain the works
Nice video, the Greta thunberg edit got me 😂😂
Lol I'm glad it brought a laugh!
You forgot the thrid weapons (ala SoTO) and the Locust signet.
If you like big hits, you should give bladesworn a try :)) 100k crits are not uncommon.
this the build you put together yesterday?
Guess its time 2 bust out the ol main reaper once again..🥵
Hey, can i ask you, which build you maded for 30g? full berserk?
Zhed's armour is zerker I think. Its pretty cheap. It would be runes and sigils that inflate the cost.
I think I might be running eagle runes but scholars are popular too.
Sigils of force and impact for weapons.
@@bosunbones.8815 thanks. i have scholars but managing to have 90% of hp all the time feels hard, i might swap to eagle when i go for ascended.
Back to my old main, yey!
Let's enjoy while it lasts.
Ride the lightning!
Oh Reaper is busted now????
Alexa play “Icy” by Kim Petras ❄️🥶
Abuse the hell out of the Reaper!
Try signet build with trait where signets stay active in shroud that IS durable reaper :D my pick for open world :) or cele burno reaper :D or Viper bleed 40+k dps reaper xD
Ive heard of cele builds and even condi builds that cook for the reaper! I'll have to take a look!
I’m new tried a few classes all felt complex seeing I play consoles so the reaper made it fun I’d probably just quit playing if they nerf it
Reaper has been a ton of fun! Highly highly recommend! And I get it the game sometimes can be too pushy!
@@CaffeinatedDad it’s a bit more forgiving than the other classes I’ve tried doing more difficult content only playing for a few months I’m in T4s feeling good learning the mechanics and that extra health bar is great for a new player.
Considering you are not a reaper main this is a sold video ^_^. Yea your gear and build was not maximized for damage. Soul spirals go nuts hitting up to 100k if you go full zerk. In the open world i tend to use spectral walk for mobility and Rise for some tanking if i needed. Having that extra stunbreak and swiftness from spectral walk turns the reaper into a monster in open world. I preffer quality of life over some stacks of might. It hits like a truck with full zerk anyway. Cheers! have a good one!
you should seriously run some fury from your build since they nerfed shroud mode to not guarantee critical strikes.
True! I'm going to prolly update this build a bit!
@@CaffeinatedDad you can use the Dreadful Spirit (that's the name I guess), it's really good cuz you can run quickness and fury out of shroud too, it's really strong
Oh yeah, I am feeling BEEFY lately. Probably will get nerfed huh? I can pretty much roll into almost any area and kill most mobs with some 1 sword wacks, maybe toss a 3 in there. Occasionally a well drop. But with the Reapers Shroud I just fly in there and wipe an area clean now in no time.
/10
Haha thank you for the custom goose!
Now I haven't played for a few months but 30g for berserker gear? Irl inflation is hitting GW2 as well.
Yeah. Not sure how he spent so much especially with the Named armour sets.
I bet it was runes and sigils that pumped the price up cos Scholar runes are like 6g per rune.
He just spent gold 😂😂 the gear is only 12g for everything
It isn't 30g. The reality is this guy has no fucking clue what he is doing. For example this guy spams shroud 3 as a fear instead of using the damage reduction and stability it grants.
Is this still true after 3 months?
Absolutely! The reaper is a great pick!
wait a sec, doesnt necro shroud also reduce damage taken as well? so ya getting the damage reduction from shroud and shroud 3 at the same time
edit: so just did checked the wiki
and found out that reaper shroud reduces strike damage taken by 33% and protection gives ya 33% damage reduction as well
and infusing terror gives u 66%
soooo ur basically have 100% strike damage reduction when ya in shroud and use infusing terror
infusing terorr also redeuces condi damage taken by 66% as well and resolution also gives ya 33% reduced Condi damage taken
sooo if u have resolution active on u and u use infusing terror, u basically have 100% damage reduction taken from both Condi and strike damage
assuming they both stack like that
It stacks multiplicatively, not additively.
@@kalasmournrex1470 i have no idea what that means, ive always found that confusing af lol
@@taylorgarrett793 it means that 33% x 66% its not 99%, its something around 90%
@@riquissu6650 yea im crap at maths.
helli even tried typing into google " 33%+66% " and i got 0.99
but 90% damage reduction isnt that bad either
Did you ever think Coffee! That doing videos like this feel like your slighting the class😅 just … a …. Little ? Like it’s the 3rd video you’ve made that’s identical to this.
best single attack dps cleave in game & fastest, reaper has no rotation ...shroud 1 stacks all might all vuln , throw an accasional chill if its not maintained n profit. Reaper doesnt bring much to the table other than single target dmg essentially, its purely a melee role n scrubs in gw2 frown upon that role
..if its rotation is spamming an autoattack , reaper is built for cleave damage n while simple is the best sustained damage in game.. lack of utility no boons no healing must not be valuable in raids etc blah blah lol, meanwhile
same haters are the ones getting reaper farmed in competitive modes
" i cant wvw ,"
"whys that? ....uh "no reason"
Lol we all know why
Lool legit thiugh I've loved the way that the reaper plays I think it just flows so well together compared to scourge and harb.
No it isnt. They silently nerfed the class. It barely does 25-30dps now. Arenanet cant take it when A class works. They need to nerf the classes in WvW that seem untouchable. Also, the reaper is to easy to counter by other classes.
i tried playing reaper with all rares and i still do 11k
you are joking right? even after the recent major buffs?
Really? I'd imagine it being higher
@@CaffeinatedDad low intensity and probably my build is shyt
edit: checked my equipments theyre all lvl 54 rares with random prefixes XD im still surprised it reaches to 11k
your reaper is funny ..
slap on full beserker you can tank easy
I'll be the first to tell ya I'm just going with what I had lol
te kurwa wybuchy
If so they should flip that like every other game with a knock down mechanic.
looking over those changes.... pve pve pve pve pve pve. No thanks.
Good luck playing in a dead game mode 🙂
@@villahermosasebastian8794 i wouldn't know, i haven't played for a while.
Reaper reinstalling now.
