i love this scene. Odysseus doesn't know his son, doesn't know if he grew up to be a good man, but with just one look, one glance: he loves him. he didn't even talk to him and he already loves him. and when he does talk to him and sees a good boy, he loves him even more. beautiful scene. father's love is often underappreciated and it reminds me of how much my dad loves me and accepts me for who I am, no matter who I become
As someone who was abandoned quite early by his father, I'll tell you that this scene makes me emotional.

It was enough to make me emotional because I can relate to your sentiment too. It reminds me of how much my dad loves me too and i always thought he was the greatest man for that because no matter what i've done, good or bad he still loves me.

That is Odysseus greatest victory. Not the war, not the suitors, getting home to his family was all he truly wanted and this is his victory cry.
Also “the strength you hold within” reflecting Telemachus doubt that he can live up to his father THEN ODY ASSURING HOM THAT HE SEES HIS SONS STRENGTH AHHHHHHH

Telemachus doesn’t see it, but it took a lot of strength to live in the environment that he was in with all those suitors. He stayed alive, and probably gave strength to his mother as well.
This is very true in the Illiad Homer announced that Odysseus pretended he was a mad man to not join the war and see his son grow, BUT Agamemnon threaten to kill Telemachus if he didn’t join.
"I can only wonder what your world has been, things you've had to suffer, and the strength you hold within". This. This is the line that broke me. I lost my grandfather at a young age, and I'm an adult now. I...wonder if he would ever recognize me now as Odysseus recognized his son

My grandfather left me due to cancer of the pancreas when i was 18 years old.. that was a tumultuous time for me, I've just finished high school, I don't know what path i should take, what profession i should strive towards....
Back then I was pretty much an introvert, I hardly talk to anyone, didn't really have someone I could call a best friend.
He suggested me to become an IT technician.
Times pass, there was a scholarship offering me a position/education to become a Registered Nurse, I took the offer, and have been working in the OR as an anesthetic assistant for more than 5 years...
I wonder what he would say to me if he sees me......

And the fact that it speaks to them both... Telemachus could never know of what his father has been through and what he's had to do just to return home. And Odysseus could mever know of all the years he had missed out on with his son. He missed all the little milestones and all the big achievements his son has earned. Things he should have taught him and prepared him for. He missed it all. But they're both strong for enduring so long and now it's finally come to this. Odysseus has finally returned home.
Idk where my copy of the Odyssey is so I can't quote verbatim, but I remember reading that when Odysseus and Telemachus met, they were so excited they greeted each other with the screeching of eagles or smth.

They both felt deep desire for lamentation, and wailed with cries as shrill as birds, like eagles or vultures, when hunters have deprived them of fledglings who have not yet learned to fly. I love that Odysseus is sitting, that he's so overwhelmed with absolute relief at being home that his legs just folded and he had to sit. And Telemachus looks so much like young!Odysseus!

The fact that a part of Odysseus died on his journey back, but the lovely thing about this scene is that a part of his old self came back when he finally got to have his son in his arms again.
Seeing your dad return after twenty long years not knowing if he's dead or alive truly must be an unspeakable relief. As someone who has lost their father at a young age I can relate to this song a bit. What a relief it would be to be held by my father again. A miraculous depiction of feeling, throughout song (shout out to Jay) and ofc thru visual depiction by you!! Great aninatic! ❤
I could relate to that as well. My dad passed away when I was 13 (2005) and every day, every hour, every minute all I want is him to embrace me and wipe away my tears. I want to hear his voice tell me it will be ok. I want him to give me away to my future husband when the time comes. I wanted him at my graduation and to see me in my prom dress for prom. To threaten any boy I dated to say basic dad things like: you hurt my daughter and you'll be sorry. I just want him. So when it is my turn to join him in heaven. After I pass into paradise as promised to those who believe first I will in person thank the Lord for being there for me, second find my home in paradise. Next I will find my dad and when I do I will hug him so tight and tell him I am home and it's so so so so good to see him and be with him again. Tell him just how much I've missed him. And say the words I have held back since the day he died. (Jan. 1, 2005 @ 1 am.) Happy New Year. Love you daddy. Then I will hug him more.

Their something so monstrous...but so human about that. I have a hard time reconciling that fact...
He would be a bad father if he would rather lose his own son than a stranger. It is awful thing but very loving and human at the same time.
You have to love someone greatly to be able to do that and i relate to it a lot. Creators of The Last of Us talked about how they would literally ruin the world for their loved ones as well
So sweet to see a story where a son who never knew his father, is a grown man yet still accepts his father.

I swear i cannot stop crying, i just saw the whole series and it made me look at this whole story on a different perspective, what odysseus had to suffer, the choice he had to made, the lives he had to take, everything lead to this moment, when he can finally say “i’m home” and hold is beloved son, just know u made a grown man cry
It’s actually one of my favorite moments of the Odyssey, that even after being 20 years apart- both father and son could feel that one connect just by looking at each other. At least that’s how I read it.

When I tell you I was about to go to bed and then saw this in my notifications, watched it, and at the end where Odysseus hugs his son felt such warmth in me, I am not kidding. Truly a masterpiece, even if it is a ruff animatic! Wonderfull!

I love this so much it genuinely brings me to tears. The imagery combined with the lines. The teary in the eyes, the way Odysseus holds his son's face, just so much emotion.
It hurts to hear him talk about the "strength you hold within" in comparison to Telemachus speaking of how he wishes he were strong.

The most touching moment in Odyssey or one of the most touching. Odysseus never knew how his son grew and Telemachus never knew his father to the point of sometimes doubting if Odysseus was his father at all! 😢
The way they seem like reflections of each other is such a great detail to remember how much Telemachus was compared to Odysseus in appearance and wit and how similar they are and they finally can see why!

This is so extremely beautiful! Both of them absoloudly don't know each other, but missed each other so badly all the time. And I just love how Odysseus not only acknoleges, that Telemachus must have suffered, but 100% focuses on it. Not once does he say stuff like "I suffered so much to get home", but instead "You are strong, I want to know about your life, I want to get to know you and be there for you". He totally focuses on his son and forgets about anything else and this is beautiful!!!!
