It was mentioned back in season 3's finale that Starswirl didn't understand friendship like... Normal ponies. So it made sense for him to be kind of a arse during this. I like that call back.

more like, both Stygian and Spike are different than the mane six/pillars and seem weaker than them. They both have confidence issues and aren't ever considered heroes nor allowed to help.
Stygian is what Spike could've become; a depressed, lonely guy who gave into darkness after his friends cast him out for only wanting to help. We have to give props to the fact that the differing factor between them is Twilight and Starswirl. Twilight embraced Spike and encouraged him, listening and allowing him to help while Starswirl turned on Stygian in paranoia and miscommunication.

(Some people would say speciesest but it's racism, because the various races of living beings don't discriminate against each other based on fur colour or things like that, so racism as we know it as humans only exists in MLP between different speices/races/creatures.) I screamed in rage at the screen.
LonelySoulSearcher Technically it is speciest because racism would apply to race, not species. And they do differentiate the difference of racism and speciesism by the fact that they do have concept of racism in their own species. Example would be the Hearth Warming Eve, where the 3 races(well, sub-species) hated each other even though they are of the same species. The three tribes are more akin to races than the different species, because the tribes are all ponies with slightly different characteristic while the other species are entirely alien.

I always find it amusing that people forget how many villains HAVE been irredeemable and totally destroyed on this show. Chrysalis has been banished somewhere worse than the changeling hive after outright rejecting an attempted redemption, Tirek is literally in Hell, Sombra was blown up and we saw his body parts flying away onscreen, the Flim Flam brothers are still scam artists, we have no idea what happened to the Sirens, Juniper Montage had her promising career quite deservedly ripped away just the same as Principal Cinch, the Storm King didn't make it to the end of his movie, and even Trixie is still a pompous windbag. Not sure that last one counts as 'evil', per se, but definitely annoying.

This is one of my favorite Seasons endings, I am a total sucher for redeemed charaters, and I cannot wait to see what the Pillars and Stigion will do. Hopefully they aren't just forgotten about

A brief list of some antagonists who were given a chance and it paid off: Picolo, Vegeta, Beerus, Loki (until Thanos came along almost immediately after), Gamora, Discord, Sunset Shimmer (in the spinoff), Ocelot (from the perspective of Boss).
And right after the season 8 premiere. Fast.

Interesting how Starlight, the only character not on the counsel of friendship, is also the only one who can recognize a FREAKING FRIENDSHIP PROBLEM. Whether you like Starlight or not, it's very apparent that the only thing the show wants to do with this character is to have her upstage everyone. Can she be her own character instead of the super important, special pony that does what other characters are supposed to do?
To be fair, Starlight is the only one of the group to have the unique perspective of a reformed villain to get Twilight, and later Starswirl, to look at the PoS problem under a different paradigm.
To be more fair, Twilight has already done this on her own several times with reforming other characters, including Starlight herself. Trixie, Discord, Sunset Shimmer, the list goes on of evil doers whom Twilight was willing to give the benefit of the doubt. And Starlight, just episodes ago, was willing to claim Thorax's brother as a lost cause just because he didn't fit in, yet she somehow instinctively knew Stingian was just a misunderstanding and no one else did?
Shady Doorags Maybe Starlight was aware she made a mistake with Pharynx, and was trying to avoid making the same mistake again with Stygian. Twilight was too enamoured by Starswirl's status to think straight. Hero worship has always been a flaw of Twilight's. The others usually just go along with whatever Twilight says because she's the leader of the group.

No, they don't. They usually follow her lead, but they make decisions as a group and discuss things as a group. In any episode without Starlight I would expect Applejack or Spike to chime in about how maybe Twilight was being blinded by hero worship, but that role goes to Starlight in this episode and she's literally the only one to question the situation. How many times have the mane 6 run into what they thought was danger only to realize that friendship was the solution? It's out of character for every single one of them to not even question the circumstances.
Why do we have 2 counsels of friendship with 13 different perspectives to look at a situation if there's a character who's not on the counsel that is better at realizing a problem is friendship related?
Shady Doorags Maybe they were tired after Twilight forced them to study for three days straight, and then had to travel all over Equestria and beyond to find the artifacts. It looked like Starlight was mostly left out of that ordeal. There could also have been some prejudice involved since they were dealing with a giant shadow monster and not a pony. Twilight only gave in when she saw the actual pony trying to escape the shadow. The only reason any of them gave Discord a chance was because Celestia told them to, and even then, Fluttershy was the only one who really followed through on that for a couple seasons. Nightmare Moon was blasted with their rainbow lasers, and then Celestia was the one to approach her afterwards, as a pony, and offer forgiveness. Starlight was the only one who approached Chrysalis and offered her a chance at redemption. Having dealt with the likes of Tirek and Sombra probably also affected how the Mane 6 saw the Pony of Shadows. As a giant raging shadow monster, he did look a lot more like Tirek or Sombra than Starlight or Trixie. Of course, Starlight wasn't there for Tirek or Sombra, so she doesn't have that experience to affect her judgement of similar looking monsters. The only experience she's had fighting enemies is with the changlings and the Mane 6 themselves. Of course, you know how that turned out.

I think Bronies react is the only react series that stays entertaining for over an hour. Most reaction channels can’t even be entertaining for a minute.
Am I the only one who thinks Stygian is Starswirl's son? Both unicorns, same coat colour, same eye colour and Stygian looks like he could be the right age. This is my head cannon now, that Stygian is Starswirl's son, that he never spoke to or was ever there for growing up, because Stygian was so weak magically and Starswirl beleived that magic or strength was the be-all and end-all when it came to who was worthwhile.
I was thinking more Big Brother and Little Brother, a la Dumbledore and Aberforth. Dumbledore/Starswirl- brilliant, ambitious, one of the most powerful wizards of all time, but also incredibly full of himself and was more concerned with the greater good than the people close to him. Stygian/Aberforth- A fairly competent wizard, but not as strong as his brother and therefore not deserving of the spotlight. Wanted to protect those closest to him but didn't go about it the right way.
Of course both of those parallels are more headcanon than anything since this one finale is the only time we've seen either of these characters.
It would be cool if you did Bronies React: Season 1 Episode 1 for a special or something.

Starlight is stronger than Twilight, recklessly. This is not a good comparison just because of power and reformation, the personality dynamics are way off.
@@5thdimensionoptiks963 Yeah, Twilight only learned magic which are mostly useless during battles like magic tricks and more, but Starlight on the other hand has studied more than magic tricks she has studied much more lethal magic and magic quite useful when on battle which makes her stronger than Twilight.

I'm rewatching most of these just for the memories. I watched so much of you guys through my middle school - high school phase where i thought i was cringe for watching my little pony. im now turning 18 in 9 days and its really nice to be able to see you all like i did before, (this is a little weird but) while watching these videos, it really makes me feel like im experiencing it all again
