Pinkie pies color change and effect on the environment when she’s happy/sad could be chalked up to earth pony magic. It’s never stated in the show but Lauren Faust talked about earth pony magic being more subtle and connected to their special talent. Some food for thought!
Yeah, pinkie has some of the most powerful earth pony magic we see in the show, but it is on the other side of the spectrum from Apple Jacks more traditional kind of earth magic
i always thought of earth pony magic as almost like quirks from my hero academia, while unicorns and pegasi all share a noticeable trait/ability, earth ponies have their own personal form of magic unique to them and how they can impact the environment around them (hence fluttershy being described as "an earth pony in a pegasi body" with her ability to communicate with animals)
@@skitterlyand pinkie was the only earth pony we see explicitly get her magic back at the end of school raze, and it makes sense, she has a lot of unexplainable feats, like teleporting, which fun fact, seems to be a magic among some earth ponies, as we see the earth pony star tracker in once upon a zeppelin teleport multiple times. It might be an established type of magic that some earth ponies have, and some have more than others Sorry, I’m very big on a lot of details and world building. It’s really interesting
Maybe all her family members have this magic and that's why they need to be as apathetic as possible because it creates rocks at the farm so they can harvest them and provide for the family
I also view Twilight Sparkle as autistic coded and Rainbow Dash as ADHD coded so interactions between the three can quickly become a game of "find the social cue" where 70% of the time there is no social cue to be found.
rainbow having adhd is 100% canon since the episode where she had to study for the wonderbolts, and turns out she just learns differently and they accomodated her
i remember lauren faust actually saying that she originally wrote twilight to be autistic (she used the word aspergers but yknow) or that it was something the wanted to do/her original intent
In the equestria girls movies sunset Shimmer has the power to see Inside peoples minds (they all develop superpowers). When she touches someone she can see into their memories and its mostly used for plot convenience . EXCEPT that when she looks into pinkie's minds she sees like a parade? With cupcakes and oversarurated colors. Its not a change in animation style like in a friend in deed, but It still shows how canonically different her brain Is from everyone elses. She also knows about the equestria girls universe before Twilight explains the whole human thing in the first movie.
but what about that one gag clip that revealed eqg pinkie and fiw pinkie were swapping places the whole time? ADFHSJKFHDSLFKJ dispute that being canon if you will, but that would explain her knowing about the eqg universe
another episode that i feel shows pinkies's abandonment issues is s3 ep7 "wonderbolt's academy", where when rainbow goes to the academy pinkie obsessively watches for letters from rainbow dash, and when she doesn't receive any goes down a spiral and comes to the conclusion that she must've forgotten about her. the others see her worry and suggest for all of them to go deliver a care package to rainbow themselves, pinkie reluctantly agrees but tells them to "not be suprised if rainbow has already forgotten their names." some stuff happens, rainbow calls out to pinkie and she becomes so happy that rainbow actually remembers her to where rainbow is obviously like "uhh yeah why wouldn't i you're my friend". rainbow has been gone for probably like 3 days max and pinkie already became convinced that she has just forgot about and abandoned them
I think it's also important to note that when Pinkie Pie threw the party for Gilda, she didn't come up with the pranks! It was Rainbow Dash who planned them. Because Gilda calls her pranks stupid when she reprimands Pinkie Pie in front of everypony and then Rainbow Dash came forward and admitted that the pranks were her idea.
please keep making video essays like this!! i'd love to hear your thoughts on the weird amount of Horse Racism (the zebras, yakyakistan, the applelooza episode, etc.) present in this show
The applelooza episode made me so mad. Why the hay did the natives have to share their land with the ponies that accidently messed up scared grounds? They could have listened to the Buffalos and not planted it on sacred ground.
god as a person who has bpd and is also very bubbly and peppy and bright when I’m in a good mood, having your “essence” drained and watching flowers wilt and balloons deflate as you walk by is suchhhhhh an accurate way of describing how those intense negative bpd episodes feel. it really emphasizes how you literally perceive the world entirely differently and how all-consuming it can be. i’ve had a hard time explaining to people how having a bpd episode / chronic feelings of emptiness are different than just feeling sad, and I think losing your colour and “deflating” is a good way to look at this. Also I would love to watch more long form content and video essays on your passions! this was a great video, very much enjoyed
Loved this so much!! Also fun to note that Maude also says she has 'Maude sense' in the episode where Pinkie sells her party canon to get Maude a gift, and Maude tracks the guy who bought it down straight away and when Rarity asks how, she says 'Maude sense'. So Pinkie sense being a fun nod to autistic sensory stuff could be plausible, as Maude so obviously has autism too
I love the parasprites episode regarding her neurodivergence and how it interacts with the rest of her friends. They see her as a bother and someone who's just getting in the way when she's clearly trying to communicate something she deems important. No one takes her seriously because she's always "weird". Through the episode you can actually start to see her get upset because they're trying everyone's ideas but hers and they're just straight up ignoring her at times. Yet despite being upset, she still helps everyone in the end. I also like that at the end she expresses that she was upset by it and they let her be upset. They apologize and promise they will try to understand her instead of dismissing her in the future. This episode helped so much as an autistic child who felt frustrated at being ignored for not being able to properly communicate my thoughts. This is also the episode that kind of establishes that one of Pinkie's hyperfixations is music! She loves a lot of instruments and is extremely talented at playing them even at the same time, which also ties along to the fact she later loved the yak instrument so much! She's usually really good at any musical instrument!
as a kid i hated pinkie pie because everyone told me i reminded them of her but i didn’t like how all the other ponies treated her and i was afraid other people wouldn’t like me if i was like her but this video was so healing and cathartic! i’m literally going to go binge watch the entire show with much more love and grace for my inner child, thank you!
I’m surprised you didn’t mention how each member of the Pie family represents a different role in an abusive household. Like Maud being ultra successful, Pinkie being the jokester that lightens the mood, Limestone being aggressive and mean, and Marble being shy and reclusive.
Pixielocks: oh btw i didn't watch the MLP movie me: constantly thinking about how big of an impact pinkie has in that movie and why she's the reason anything gets done in it, or just that massive arguement near the end-
@@Pixielocks I also need to catch up on the EG movies tbh, but the 2017 mlp movie is definitely worth a watch imo, especially with Pinkie just being her happy helpful self throughout (and she has a banger song near the end i adore) i'd love to hear a follow up, even if it's just to touch on the movie side of Pinkie or the EG stuff !! also always awesome finding new media to watch of something you enjoy, it's the best
Something that helped me understand what BPD is was my therapist explaining how similar it is to people who have CPTSD + Autism as a diagnosis like myself, and that's why a lot of women get diagnosed with BPD when they actually have the CPTSD ASD combo. Symptoms are the same, tons of overlap, but the way to treat it is different according to what she told me. Really opened my eyes.
One thing I love about MLP is that in my opinion, every one of the main characters *could* be interpreted to be autistic, as all of them kind portray different ways autism can appear in different people and show off different traits which can also be seen as a beautiful representation of the wide and varied autistic spectrum!
i knew this video would be good, but i did NOT expect the question of cheese sandwich meeting his father in law and having to answer for amish paradise 😭 at least we know for a fact that there's no way igneous watched it. because, you know. amish. this video has been an absolute delight to watch while i indulge in my current hyperfixation, drawing pokemon i made up lol
We have DID+BPD and MLP is our longest running special interest and when I tell you our pinkie introject was THRILLED abt this video omg!!! I love this so much, really well done and super in depth :)
Thank you for continuing to do so much advocacy work surrounding BPD! It’s really helped me come to terms with likely having it and seeking help in therapy. I’m still too scared to get an official diagnosis on paper that other doctors can see, but I’m now able to discuss symptoms with my therapist and actually understand what I’m going through and get help and learn proper coping stuff!
I relate to this so much! I haven't had a chance to reach out to a therapist yet (wayyy too much going on to afford it or have the time) but hearing someone else talk about what I go through as not the end of the world makes me feel so much less alone in my low points.
Hey havent finished the video yet, but random story relating to the "Pinkie Pie has autism" thing, i remember finding out when I was about 11 that i had autism, so i decided to research it nd and my first thought on reading the symptoms was "wow! This sounds a lot like Pinkie Pie!" And was really excited. Sorry this isn't super relevant but you just saying that she definitely has it in your eyes just really brought me back so thank you :D
57:25 going on a huge neurodivergent ramble about this: it's definitely a weird way to handle it, but really interesting. I feel like a lot of people (myself included) who grew up in religious or physically abusive households learned that the "only" way to prove you were sorry (you had to prove it, you couldn't just be believed) was to hurt yourself "for them." Like repentance, contrition, it's giving Dobby hitting himself, it's like trying to reset the balance by hurting yourself since you hurt them. It's very Hamurabi eye for an eye, except without the "equal type of hurt" logic. Like I remember in middle school upsetting my friend or brother and saying they could hit me because I was so sorry, and people (correctly) looked at me like I was crazy. Idk where I'm going with this, just that the "self punishment to prove you're sorry/loyalty/how much you care" is a very religious trauma mentality that seeped out onto other things. (Obviously I'm not saying Rainbow Dash was raised Christian/in an abusive household, though since she's queer coded AF that first one is in an interesting angle 😂)
I’ve never seen My Little Pony, and up until this point, I never even thought about watching it. I love the aesthetic, but I thought I wouldn’t be interested in it, since it’s primarily marketed to kids. I’m not even halfway through your video, and I now live and die by Miss Pinkie Pie. I’m all in. From one Neurodivergent human to another, look what you’ve done!!! 😂😂😂
It’s reeeeally fun, the first season is a little more juvenile before they become aware of their older fans and the writing and music picks up soooo much 👉🏻👈🏻💕💕💕
Same!!! I watched some of the 90s and 00s stuff when i was a kid but other than a passing interest in that, I had no interest in my little pony. But I got so invested in this video that now I might watch it haha
its def worth watching!! the adult fandom that came of it might've gotten a bad rep but there was a reason it appealed to many grown ppl, it's fun and the humor is actually good, not to mention the great world building which was one of the main draws (to me) and other ppl
oh my gosh THANK YOU for this video. i’ve related to pinkie and her “ weird ” out of pocket behavior ever since i was a kid. i’m glad you addressed autism and bpd together, for me and a lot of other people autism and bpd are SO tightly woven together that sometimes it’s hard to tell the two apart (extremely intense fixations on attachment figures, emotional outbursts triggered by sensory issues …) i hope you continue to do bpd advocacy like this, i feel so seen and comforted.
56:56 Rainbow's garbage pie is honestly great characterization because thats the exact type of stuff you get trying to think with adhd and her plan makes sense to her until someone else points out how ridiculous it is. It's super relatable I've had a few "garbage pies."
this is definitely a perspective that mlp content on youtube has been SORELY lacking!!! i really hope you continue to make mlp videos for a long time...!!! i can't wait to hear all you have to say about the little ponies
Pinkie Pie feels to me like if SpongeBob SquarePants was a pony, just replace the krabby patties and jellyfishing with desserts and parties. That and the breaking into people’s houses
I feel Spongebob also has some house breaking in issues lmfao. Like in the first movie, Spongebob deadass breaks into Squidwards house, and not only that, BUT HE SHOWERS NEXT TO HIM WITHOUT ASKING PERMISSION FHUDEGFHHJEHFK
As a psychologist, I really enjoyed watching your breakdown of Pinkie Pie and BPD. Comparing fictional characters against diagnostic criteria was part of how we learned the DSM in grad school. Great work!
“I don’t know if I have autism” proceeds to record over 2 hours of talking about an animated pink horse I mean this lovingly, as a fellow member of the “almost definitely has autism but doesn’t have/want a formal diagnosis” squad
@@AGK1999FE do they have hyper fixations? Like, spend like 8 hours straight on something, like you just get really into it, enough to commit yourself to make an hour long video on pinkie sporadically. Allistic people do have passions and talents but I thought it was a bit more subdued and longer lasting for any fixations they might have that aren't core parts of themselves. And if it's a long term passion that you'd be less married to the subject. Kinda like, for an allistic person they have a really beloved subject or hobby, and for autistics they're certain subject flavoured, like, it's a whole part of their brains, their life is imbued and intertwined with that subject. It's also I think more common for an autistic person to have an intense fixation on something in general. Idk
@@tourmelion9221lots of allistic people will become heavily interested in a topic and make a long video unpacking it. It’s a RUclipsrs job to do research and become invested in what they’re documenting, anyone’s capable of this lol
pinkie pie always holds a special place in my heart and my #1 best pony slot FOREVER!!! and purely because I have ADHD, I HC her as ADHD. and its not cause just cause she's hyperactive, its also cause of her depression and rejection sensitivity she gets when she thinks her friends are lying and avoiding her or don't like her yovidaphone playing. That is what made me relate to her the most, is her bubbly side she has that can be genuine but it can also be a mask she puts on when she's sad, that and the way she info dumps things SO FAST is exactly how i infodump about something im excited to talk about. But her party planning cave proves that she has so much info in her head and she is so dedicated to making a party the BEST customized experience for every single resident of ponyvile. i love this essay bringing this discussion that pinkie pie is DEFINITELY not neurotypical and that THAT FACT makes her so much more relatable to a lot of people that dont have a lot of main character rep. Edit: i also wanted to add these lyrics to It's Gonna Work from Spice Up Your Life that seem fitting: Don't ever change Being different is good Don't let what others do be your cue Never rearrange 'Cause somepony said you should Just trust your heart, it will know what to do
Not a subscriber but i am SO glad this video found me!!! I think i know why the algorithm brought me here, a fellow garf enthusiast enthusiast (i love izzy). fantastic video!!! you kept me engaged and yet focused while i worked on my schoolwork and i still got to satisfy my MLP curiosity for today
YOU HIT THE ALGO!! :D You were on my frontpage and i COULD NOT be happier!! This was seriously so good and well done! :> I am quite un-educated about BPD so it was super sick to learn more about it through my special interest (MLP). So thank you so much! And i really hope you make more of these types of videos (no pressure of course) cause it was so stinkin well done and handled in such a neat way. :)) Also side note: UR OUTFITS AND STYLE IS JNCWEJSKSL SO PRETTYYYY. GRRR I adore it so much ✨✨ Absolute slayage i tell you
The outfits? Immaculate. The research? Impressive. My attention? Fully grabbed. Please do more of these, particularly the one you mentioned about horse racism/the meta level racism of the Apple-oosa or Yakyakistan episodes.
This was such an utterly delightful watch. I'm so happy it managed to get through all the copyright nonsense. If you do anymore video essays in the future I will definitely tune in!!
Omg this brings me back. You're single-handedly dragging me back into my MLP hyperfixation. Fluttershy is my favorite of the mane six and the one I relate to the most.
Edit: oh cool! You did bring it up !! Almost no one talks about it or really gets the Eureka moment. Thank you so much for bringing that up!! Fun fact: pinkie and her family are supposed to be based off of an amish family and her hair is specific to her brand of earthpony magic. Her hair is technically straight like the rest of her family. It’s her pinkie sense and pony version of chaos magic. (Her taking discord’s magic at one point even shows this) and i think thats neat to know
Pixie, I appreciate you taking the time with this video and in doing so I want to offer some well intentioned constructive feedback/ advice. First of all, thanks for posting this and being willing to include your personal opinions and references to bpd. I’m sure this is helpful to those who also have bpd to relate to the character of pinkie pie and to see representation from yourself. I am aware that there is a stigma towards bpd and this includes in reference to representation. Thanks for sharing your experiences. It’s clear you’re a big fan of the show and franchise and I like that we’re getting more content on your channel exploring everything you’re interested in- passionate videos are my jam. I LOVE your deep dives into anime, fashion and culture. It’s clear you have an interest in exploring what you’re in to from so many perspectives and I like that. I also really enjoy seeing you match your topic with your wardrobe. It’s a nice touch and gives a lot of personality to the subject. My impression from this video is that the presentation and structure could be improved and defined more towards your intentions. I get the impression this is an essay video (as you do state this at the beginning of the video) and thus you will be showing your opinions, facts and evidence towards a topic but often this doesn’t translate well and there are some points I really think you need to readdress again- for your own personal use or maybe towards the next video. I think that your take on autism comes across as limited and some of your takes are capped within references to your own experience- this doesn’t mean you can not explore them but you do often reference traits of autism and imply fact/ your statements are evidence based and I do question the source of research. I’m only able to assume your level of study within the subject is perhaps mostly self informed and respect you stated that you’re not diagnosed and don’t feel comfortable stating certain traits but you then do go on to contradict this many times during the video so it doesn’t feel like a genuine statement- I know you need to cover yourself because there are those out there who have used undiagnosed peoples opinions as lesser than or uninformed but you also need to actually stick to the boundary too. Using your own knowledge from life experience is useful and valid but within the topic of your own personal experience and not as a wide definition of the topic. It would have been so interesting if you have sited some professional evidence and also gave more factual background knowledge as additional information if you weren’t comfortable being able to define some of the autistic traits perhaps asking a friend who is comfortable and diagnosed to view your opinions and give advice would be useful too. I will say that if you feel uncomfortable stating certain traits as being in autistic because you are not diagnosed this is also fine and you have to do what is ultimately comfortable to you but you also then need to be more clinical and back up the things you say with clinical study. I think I would have liked to just see you fully just committing to this as in your opinion from your own lived experience as a person with ASD/ undiagnosed ASD. I do emphasis though and It’s can be hard to commit to this and I know from personal experience it can feel uncomfortable but also allowing the audience to know that you’re still learning and appreciate feedback or reference could be included here too. I think to commit to commenting on this topic from a more direct place and sticking to it would be useful too, otherwise there is no need for your statement and the ethics of it all. ASD I’m sure you can appreciate is a difficult thing to explain, diagnosis and dissect. It is after all a spectrum and I don’t think using the DSM as a checklist is entirely useful. This seems to be the only area you reference within the video and leads the audience to believe that you only have this information. There is a need for all things to be considered within context and I believe this includes how our brains work. A lot of the language you also use is limited to one perceived experience and often implies a focus on being autistic as childish/ child like and I find this to be quite frustrating. I’m sure you are aware of how infuriating it is to have the context of how your brain works as being defined by the age you are and having behaviour be more evident in childhood than as an adult is commonly stated as fact and is inaccurate (specifically in your video I’m referencing the comment to social interaction at ren faire and cons). In regards to referencing trauma as being an unofficial trait of autism from childhood from a sound bite you saw online I see this as not being helpful or useful. Without giving a source and using it to base a very serious subject gave me the impression as you coming across as being somewhat disingenuous. Using the word ‘trauma’ as a term used repeatedly within an online social lexicon and applying it within the realm of analysis is not the same. Specifically focusing on the terminology of ‘childhood trauma’ and how this is often used within online culture or general nuanced conversation is not at all accurate what the words actually mean as it is often applied as a huge umbrella term and can be seen a lot within off hand online mental health discourse. It doesn’t give the correct level of context or indicate a basis within research. Trauma in general is hard to define and it is continuously used as a loaded topic. By perpetuating the term to mean something as simple as ‘how things were as a child’ or ‘bad experiences from childhood’ within your video is really detrimental without evidence to show how you came to this conclusion from the work you have explored within the field. This leads the viewer to assume the source of your knowledge is limited and without merit. You can still have the opinion that there was trauma within pinkie pies childhood and you can give examples but the same terminology really shouldn’t be applied. Psychological clinical terms are used to define and hold weight and context within those structures and when a term is borrowed and then used within everyday discourse it can become muddied and devalue its meaning. I will say that It’s interesting to see you focus on pinkies childhood and I would personally like to see this explored more- from research I’ve seen it to be true that our personality traits, belief systems and sense of self can be assumed to be created from our experiences within childhood but again there is so much more context. The whole mane 6 have some slight references to their childhood within episodes but I’ve always felt that it never gets explore enough- how did they become who they are and what were their family dynamics like when they were young? Friends? Home life? I would love to know more! I think you could improve the dialogue you use within the video and I’m sure this is something you’re aware of as this is one of your first long form video essays. I enjoy the format of these genre of video but the dialogue you use leans more into conversational and not entirely essay there is evidence of you showing your research, and opinions which is great but it doesn’t always feel like it’s presented as well informed. This is not an indication that you can’t be wonderfully pixie by dressing cheerfully, talking animated or include side notes of humour all of this is appreciate and encouraged. We want you to be you. This can be achieved with balance and structure of your topic and editing. I would love to see more of your special interest videos esp on ponies for sure because it’s obvious you have passion and some interesting theories and I can see how this topic related to pinkie pie would excite you enough to want to explore things further and vocalise it/ share it within the community. As a side on the subject of community- I think it would have been useful to also introduce us in more depth to the show, the characters and other parts of the community you reference within the ‘fandom’ and what exactly you mean when describing it. Im sure you are aware that you can be a big fan of MLP and even have it be a special interest as an autistic person and not interact at all within a perceived recognised ‘fandom’ space. More context would have been great in relation to fan fics for example, well known people within the fandom or things in general that are well known within certain fan spaces. In conclusion, I enjoyed seeing you do this and know you must have been excited to do it too! There are so many points that are really interesting to explore and I kind of hope you still do explore them because a 1 hour video for so much information is a lot! I know you are doing this from a place of love, respect and with well intentioned knowledge. I do believe that when making a video with definitive statements about mental illness towards anyone including fictional characters it is better when it’s balanced, shows knowledge, has structure and research and comes with solid context- we can armchair anyone but it’s more interesting when we have the chops to back it up. I do acknowledge how passionate you are about the MLP and mental health and can see how you could apply psychology to the show on so many levels. I so I do firmly want to encourage you to do more within this area. Thanks again for posting this pixie and I hope that my words are seen from a place of equal respect, love and passion. Can’t wait to see if this becomes a series I hope my advice is useful to you. Xx
Thank you for all of this feedback!!! 💗 I take it to heart and will consider all of this in the future 🫶🏻 I definitely leaned on the DSM criteria especially for ASD in an attempt to not accidentally misrepresent it. Since I’m not diagnosed, I am not comfortable labelling examples from my life as autistic experiences (at most I will say I have special interests because that’s kinda unavoidable haha) but I do understand how sticking to the DSM criteria is limiting. The dialogue balance between reading the script and speaking naturally is tricky as well!! Really appreciate this in depth comment, excited to implement some of this stuff in my next video essay 🥰💗
@@Pixielocks thanks for responding :) I wanted to make sure that any comments I made were constructive because I genuinely only want good things for you and like I said I really do enjoy the videos where you’re expressing your thoughts and feelings about your interests. I love deep dives into fashion and exploring fan theories. It’s never just recycling the same points others make and I appreciate that- you include you, ya know? You can also see from the comments how much the videos means to folk within the pony community, the confetti club and those with bpd too. Sometimes we forget that everyone starts from scratch with this type of stuff and allowing yourself to try new things with your channel can only be a good thing- no one stays the same! Evolve! Don’t be afraid of the pixie Evie evolution :) at the same time it’s cool if this is your only one too- it takes a lot outta folk being able to go into stuff intensely and putting it out there. Sending love and magic for the next vid. P.s I’m serious about requesting more pony fan theories for sure but…… if you did wanna do a few Steven universe exploration vid that would be super cool. 😊 😍
Also omg I’m sorry for the essay length!! I’m only now looking at how much I wrote and woah. as you can tell I can get hyper focused hardcore on stuff I like/ feel passionate about too. 😅
Pinkie Pie was my favorite character as a kid because I also had an obsession with making people laugh and was frequently dubbed as "Crazy" in a "cute and quirky" way. 14 years and an autism + quiet BPD diagnosis later, it feels like a sign in retrospect.
OHMY GOD AT 28:53 MY FRIEND MADE THAT EDIT FOR ME!!! PINKIE IS ONE OF MY KINS FOR THE SAME REASON OF AUTISM + ADHD + BEING BORDERLINE AND I GAVE HIM THE IDEA TO MAKE THE EDIT 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
here to confirm that this video did hit the algorithm and reached the mlp fans who haven't seen your channel before! super excited it did as well, you seem like such an amazing creator who puts so much effort into everything you do!! i will be binging your channel for the next week or so for sure
AAAAAAA PIXIE WHAT THE HECK this was so good! I love all the little details like the pinboard, but most of all I love how this gives me positive insight into BPD, which (I'm sure the BPD community knows most of all) is just so hard to get from most media representations. THANK YOU for persevering despite all the copyright difficulties! I look forward to more of Pixielocks the video essayist!
i’ve always felt so connected to pinkie pie and could never describe it accurately but i got diagnosed with bpd a couple of years ago and now i see this…full circle moment
I'm blown away by the existence of this video! I was diagnosing Pinkie back in 2013 and dreaming about making a video like this, couldn't have possibly happened but now it feels like I'm on the other side of my own butterfly effect getting to watch it. Thank you!!
16:30 I realized right now that maybe Pinkie tought that Twilight was interested cus Maud barely reacts even when she is interested. So she probably thinks people who dont react much she assumes theyre interested even if they aren't
THE pinkie pie video of all time! this was so good and well researched!! psychoanalyzing characters is always so fun and pinkie was just asking for it. hopefully you had fun branching out and trying something new!!(other than all the stress with youtube) sending party cannons your way today🎉
I watched through this entire vid start to finish and I can tell you put a lot of effort into this and it shows!! Your enthusiasm for the topic is infectious ngl
You did amazing at this Pixie! I love Pinkie so much, they could have made her such a one dimensional peppy party pony but her multitudes of emotions and difficulties makes her iconic. I’ve watched a lot of mlp characterization breakdowns and you have done one of the sweetest jobs at explaining Pinkie’s range of emotions. 💖
This and the Dutch van der linde essay are my favourite essays for analysing bpd onto fictional characters while giving light to the mental illness in a none dehumanising way.
58:23 I've been having fun. i think the reason they treat chocolate like a Substance is bc that's how sugar and candy is treated for kids w adhd/adhd symptoms, and kids in general. i definitely experienced that growing up
This video helped me get preliminary diagnosed with BPD - I watched it for the MLP part, knowing very little about borderline, and went "wait... all of this is me." The very next day I brought it up with my therapist, who said I'll definetely get a BPD diagnosis, should I apply for one... so, now i'm in the middle of applying for one! Who knew an MLP video could change my life and understanding of myself in such a way
As a heavily traumatized 10 year old, her impulsive behavior and mood swings is something I related to a lot. Whether that was because I was a child, the autism, or developing bpd I can't know for sure. What I can say tho is that I 100% agree with the bpd and autism diagnosis, from personal experience
we're filled with so much love and excited for this as someone who was assigned being most like pinkie pie in their high school friend group (other characters, people, etc. we assigned ourselves included homestar runner characters, members of super junior, the greek gods and goddesses, the powerpuff girls, and probably a heap more
this video did actually appear on my recommendations, prior to have never heard about your channel! this video was amazing, and as a new subscriber i'd love to see more of this, love ur energy!!
the wait was worth it this essay ATEEEEE 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 thank you for sharing the research that went into this is insane! making me want to rewatch friendship is magic! ✨
Thanks for this. I really enjoyed this video and it makes me understand why I felt so related to Fluttershy and Pinkie at the same time even when I found them so different to each other
I NEVER THOUGHT THIS WOULD HAPPEN!! You have no idea how long I've linked your style to Pinkie like the whole "party core" aesthetic and "confetti club" always made me think of her !!!! She's my favorite character ever I've been in love with her for like 12 + years and I relate so hard I always felt connected to her especially as an autistic person with adhd !! God this is so wonderful I love you so much thank youuu for making this 🩷
I've never watched My Little Pony, but I will watch this entire video because I know you've been working super hard on it, and it has been a pain to get approved.🌈 💗🦄
This is genuinely one of the only video essays I've ever been able to just sit down and watch without distractions - thank you for such an amazing video! As someone with ADHD it's really hard for me to focus on just one thing at once, but this video was really visually stimulating to me which helped a lot!! 39:00 omg i remember this episode freaking me the fuck out as a kid, like there’s a few early mlp episodes i have vivid memories of watching when they came out and this is one, it was so eerie to me, not a single other mlp episode scared me but this one did 😭 it did become one of my favorites though and i remember rewatching it A LOT
don't worry bro, she'll text you back, she's just watching the hour and 12 minute Pixielocks Pinkie Pie Video

THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT TOO I'M SO GLAD I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE OMG 😭😭 i felt so dumb when i realised 😂😂
ugh this diva
Pinkie pies color change and effect on the environment when she’s happy/sad could be chalked up to earth pony magic. It’s never stated in the show but Lauren Faust talked about earth pony magic being more subtle and connected to their special talent. Some food for thought!
Oh that's so neat :D
It might be an established type of magic that some earth ponies have, and some have more than others
Sorry, I’m very big on a lot of details and world building. It’s really interesting
Maybe all her family members have this magic and that's why they need to be as apathetic as possible because it creates rocks at the farm so they can harvest them and provide for the family
“Or should I say hello everypony” I am so locked in rn
I also view Twilight Sparkle as autistic coded and Rainbow Dash as ADHD coded so interactions between the three can quickly become a game of "find the social cue" where 70% of the time there is no social cue to be found.
rainbow having adhd is 100% canon since the episode where she had to study for the wonderbolts, and turns out she just learns differently and they accomodated her
i remember lauren faust actually saying that she originally wrote twilight to be autistic (she used the word aspergers but yknow) or that it was something the wanted to do/her original intent
lauren has stated in a tweet that pinkie also has adhd! or at least showed some traits of it
If you really analyse her character, Rainbow is 100% autistic and I love it
SOOOOO TRUE
In the equestria girls movies sunset Shimmer has the power to see Inside peoples minds (they all develop superpowers). When she touches someone she can see into their memories and its mostly used for plot convenience . EXCEPT that when she looks into pinkie's minds she sees like a parade? With cupcakes and oversarurated colors. Its not a change in animation style like in a friend in deed, but It still shows how canonically different her brain Is from everyone elses. She also knows about the equestria girls universe before Twilight explains the whole human thing in the first movie.
@@agostoangosto9442 OOOH THATS TRUE omg
but what about that one gag clip that revealed eqg pinkie and fiw pinkie were swapping places the whole time? ADFHSJKFHDSLFKJ dispute that being canon if you will, but that would explain her knowing about the eqg universe
Sunset murmuring "that makes so much sense" after looking into Pinkie's head was ironically so validating to me as an autistic person myself LMAO
Her brain literally works like Deadpool. People’ll go crazy over trying to nitpick their minds.
another episode that i feel shows pinkies's abandonment issues is s3 ep7 "wonderbolt's academy", where when rainbow goes to the academy pinkie obsessively watches for letters from rainbow dash, and when she doesn't receive any goes down a spiral and comes to the conclusion that she must've forgotten about her. the others see her worry and suggest for all of them to go deliver a care package to rainbow themselves, pinkie reluctantly agrees but tells them to "not be suprised if rainbow has already forgotten their names." some stuff happens, rainbow calls out to pinkie and she becomes so happy that rainbow actually remembers her to where rainbow is obviously like "uhh yeah why wouldn't i you're my friend". rainbow has been gone for probably like 3 days max and pinkie already became convinced that she has just forgot about and abandoned them
I think it's also important to note that when Pinkie Pie threw the party for Gilda, she didn't come up with the pranks! It was Rainbow Dash who planned them. Because Gilda calls her pranks stupid when she reprimands Pinkie Pie in front of everypony and then Rainbow Dash came forward and admitted that the pranks were her idea.
Omg thank you how did I miss that
laughing unnecessarily hard at the idea of someone coming into ur home and loudly playing the bagpipes and ur just like “umm girl….. raincheck?”
please keep making video essays like this!! i'd love to hear your thoughts on the weird amount of Horse Racism (the zebras, yakyakistan, the applelooza episode, etc.) present in this show
I have been thinking about this 👁️👁️ This is another thing I could talk about forever 😭
the amount of racism these ponies show is insane😭 in the comics they straight up shit talk dragons right in front of spike's face

I love this show
Loved this so much!! Also fun to note that Maude also says she has 'Maude sense' in the episode where Pinkie sells her party canon to get Maude a gift, and Maude tracks the guy who bought it down straight away and when Rarity asks how, she says 'Maude sense'. So Pinkie sense being a fun nod to autistic sensory stuff could be plausible, as Maude so obviously has autism too
Omg!!!! You are so right thank u for that tidbit 👀💕

One thing I love about MLP is that in my opinion, every one of the main characters *could* be interpreted to be autistic, as all of them kind portray different ways autism can appear in different people and show off different traits which can also be seen as a beautiful representation of the wide and varied autistic spectrum!
i knew this video would be good, but i did NOT expect the question of cheese sandwich meeting his father in law and having to answer for amish paradise 😭 at least we know for a fact that there's no way igneous watched it. because, you know. amish.

Aw of course 🥺💗 You got this 💗💗💗
I relate to this so much! I haven't had a chance to reach out to a therapist yet (wayyy too much going on to afford it or have the time) but hearing someone else talk about what I go through as not the end of the world makes me feel so much less alone in my low points.
Holy crap I came and stayed here for pinkie pie BUT IM STAYING HERE TOO FOR BPD AWARENESS!! 💜💜

Re: the episode where pinkie thinks her friends hate her and then they throw her a party and remind her she's loved.

oh my gosh THANK YOU for this video. i’ve related to pinkie and her “ weird ” out of pocket behavior ever since i was a kid. i’m glad you addressed autism and bpd together, for me and a lot of other people autism and bpd are SO tightly woven together that sometimes it’s hard to tell the two apart (extremely intense fixations on attachment figures, emotional outbursts triggered by sensory issues …)
i hope you continue to do bpd advocacy like this, i feel so seen and comforted.
56:56 Rainbow's garbage pie is honestly great characterization because thats the exact type of stuff you get trying to think with adhd and her plan makes sense to her until someone else points out how ridiculous it is. It's super relatable I've had a few "garbage pies."

Kinda like, for an allistic person they have a really beloved subject or hobby, and for autistics they're certain subject flavoured, like, it's a whole part of their brains, their life is imbued and intertwined with that subject. pinkie pie always holds a special place in my heart and my #1 best pony slot FOREVER!!! and purely because I have ADHD, I HC her as ADHD. and its not cause just cause she's hyperactive, its also cause of her depression and rejection sensitivity she gets when she thinks her friends are lying and avoiding her or don't like her yovidaphone playing.

Sometimes we forget that everyone starts from scratch with this type of stuff and allowing yourself to try new things with your channel can only be a good thing- no one stays the same! Evolve! Don’t be afraid of the pixie Evie evolution :)
at the same time it’s cool if this is your only one too- it takes a lot outta folk being able to go into stuff intensely and putting it out there.
you talk like a real person and im totally rockin wit it like idk how to explain it but u talk in a way that is like comfortable and relatable
Pinkie Pie was my favorite character as a kid because I also had an obsession with making people laugh and was frequently dubbed as "Crazy" in a "cute and quirky" way. 14 years and an autism + quiet BPD diagnosis later, it feels like a sign in retrospect.
wait your intro/name thingy is gorgeous omg
Thank u >:)
idk why i haven’t found you before your vibes are literally immaculate yay ponies yay
Omg Precure icon hello!!! I have a ton of videos on Precure too it’s my primary special interest :D😭🌈💕
@@Pixielocks omg cool!!!! yeah i grew up with the american version ^_^!!!
YES YESSSS!!! I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR SO LONGGGGG!!!! I AM SO GLAD YOU PUT THIS OUT THERE!
7:26 "I am Pinkie Pie's doctor."
W HE EEE ZE!!! HAHAHAH JF HGJDAD GFVNBYHUIASGBASB ABVIUVB
I CAN'T STOP LAUGHIGNIGNG
OHMY GOD AT 28:53 MY FRIEND MADE THAT EDIT FOR ME!!! PINKIE IS ONE OF MY KINS FOR THE SAME REASON OF AUTISM + ADHD + BEING BORDERLINE AND I GAVE HIM THE IDEA TO MAKE THE EDIT 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
MY GUY !!!! most anticipated pixie vid of all time
here to confirm that this video did hit the algorithm and reached the mlp fans who haven't seen your channel before! super excited it did as well, you seem like such an amazing creator who puts so much effort into everything you do!! i will be binging your channel for the next week or so for sure
I look forward to more of Pixielocks the video essayist!
happy to say this “hit the algo’!” :D! this was amazing background noise for my knitting project
i’ve always felt so connected to pinkie pie and could never describe it accurately but i got diagnosed with bpd a couple of years ago and now i see this…full circle moment
I'm blown away by the existence of this video! I was diagnosing Pinkie back in 2013 and dreaming about making a video like this, couldn't have possibly happened but now it feels like I'm on the other side of my own butterfly effect getting to watch it. Thank you!!
YESYESYESYESYESYESYES FINALLY IVE BEEN FROTHING AT THE MOUTH FOR THIS VIDEO
16:30 I realized right now that maybe Pinkie tought that Twilight was interested cus Maud barely reacts even when she is interested. So she probably thinks people who dont react much she assumes theyre interested even if they aren't
This totally made it out of your circle, this is the first ive seen of you! Loved it
YAY that’s so lovely :D!
3:59 the mane six are all definitely autistic. I would argue that all the ponies could be. Maybe that's why the show was so relatable
Omg YAY thank you legend!!! I recently found your channel and love your stuff 🥰💕
I never comment on videos but as someone with BPD this video makes me feel so happy and seen, so thank you so much.
This and the Dutch van der linde essay are my favourite essays for analysing bpd onto fictional characters while giving light to the mental illness in a none dehumanising way.
58:23 I've been having fun. i think the reason they treat chocolate like a Substance is bc that's how sugar and candy is treated for kids w adhd/adhd symptoms, and kids in general. i definitely experienced that growing up
"Hello, everypony. Please don't leave." NO YOU SEE I CAME HERE FOR THAT!!! I AM IN MY MLP ERA!!!
just started and I have to say, The look? everything and more. immaculate.
This is the fastest I’ve ever been able to click on a new pixielocks vid 😮
This video helped me get preliminary diagnosed with BPD - I watched it for the MLP part, knowing very little about borderline, and went "wait... all of this is me." The very next day I brought it up with my therapist, who said I'll definetely get a BPD diagnosis, should I apply for one... so, now i'm in the middle of applying for one!
Who knew an MLP video could change my life and understanding of myself in such a way
love love love how well researched this is!! I think you did Pinkie justice 🥺
pinkie in the blankie crying is so me 😭
Pinkie Pie analysis video
First 10 minutes: mental disorders diagnosis criteria
Hell yeah this one's gonna be a banger
As a heavily traumatized 10 year old, her impulsive behavior and mood swings is something I related to a lot. Whether that was because I was a child, the autism, or developing bpd I can't know for sure. What I can say tho is that I 100% agree with the bpd and autism diagnosis, from personal experience
I started watching my little pony because you began talking about it. I LOVE the show and I am invested!
we're filled with so much love and excited for this as someone who was assigned being most like pinkie pie in their high school friend group (other characters, people, etc. we assigned ourselves included homestar runner characters, members of super junior, the greek gods and goddesses, the powerpuff girls, and probably a heap more
this video did actually appear on my recommendations, prior to have never heard about your channel! this video was amazing, and as a new subscriber i'd love to see more of this, love ur energy!!
the wait was worth it this essay ATEEEEE 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 thank you for sharing the research that went into this is insane! making me want to rewatch friendship is magic! ✨
Thanks for this. I really enjoyed this video and it makes me understand why I felt so related to Fluttershy and Pinkie at the same time even when I found them so different to each other
I've never seen an episode of MLP in my life but I'm beyond invested in this top tier content
God this is so wonderful I love you so much thank youuu for making this 🩷
I've never watched My Little Pony, but I will watch this entire video because I know you've been working super hard on it, and it has been a pain to get approved.🌈 💗🦄
you did great!!! this is awesome!! not just for your first video essay, but for a video essay in general!!! good job :D
You look so good in pink 😭💖this is exactly what I want my pink makeup to look like !!!
This is genuinely one of the only video essays I've ever been able to just sit down and watch without distractions - thank you for such an amazing video! As someone with ADHD it's really hard for me to focus on just one thing at once, but this video was really visually stimulating to me which helped a lot!! (I think especially the theory board at the back and your amazing outfits!!)
Oh we LOVE an alliterative title 👏👏👏
39:00 omg i remember this episode freaking me the fuck out as a kid, like there’s a few early mlp episodes i have vivid memories of watching when they came out and this is one, it was so eerie to me, not a single other mlp episode scared me but this one did 😭 it did become one of my favorites though and i remember rewatching it A LOT
