Over time, Starlight would realize things would only get worse as she reached the Barren Wasteland future. Twilight and Spike would find her there, and she’d reveal to them her past with Sunburst. It would feel more earned as a redemption, I think.

Sure, starlights villain origin story seems "pathetic" at first, but the more we learn about Starlight over the next several seasons, the more it makes sense. Especially when we meet her father in season 8. He was always stuck in the past, which likely taught a young starlight to dwell on her own past and not move forward. Also because of how much he treated starlight as a child when she was an adult, I can only guess that it was the same if not worse when she was younger. He likely never taught her how to properly handle and regulate her emotions. So when she had her first heartbreak, it honestly makes sense that she never got over it like an emotionally sound neurotypical would have.

This video finally made me realize. Starlight is Broly. She's stupidly OP, rivaling the main characters without effort. She's got a terrible backstory but an amazing design and powerset. And while half the fanbase like her, the other half want to violently rip her apart. She's Broly. And I LOVE her.
The fundamental difference is that Starlight’s story is done in a fresh and unique way from her cult personality to her time-centered revenge scheme to even her redemption. Broly was just another generic DBZ villain who destroys a bunch of stuff and screams a lot. Oh yeah, and had a bunch of BS power-ups too. He’s basically Buu, but without anything that made Buu interesting or distinguished as a character. And his character didn’t even stick around long enough to shed any backstory on what the Legendary Super Saiyan even IS. Sorry if that’s a bit rambling, but I despise Broly completely and yet love Starlight. They’re two sides of the same concept I suppose, but one side is made of tin and the other is made of silver.

Why wouldn’t Sombra just kill any prisoners? Letting them go to continue fighting is counterproductive, no? My theory is that Sombra set up air defenses around the Crystal Empire to shoot down any Pegasi that tried approaching. It would shoot holes in their wings, infecting them. This video finally made me realize. Starlight is Broly. She's stupidly OP, rivaling the main characters without effort. She's got a terrible backstory but an amazing design and powerset. And while half the fanbase like her, the other half want to violently rip her apart.

The fundamental difference is that Starlight’s story is done in a fresh and unique way from her cult personality to her time-centered revenge scheme to even her redemption.
Broly was just another generic DBZ villain who destroys a bunch of stuff and screams a lot. Oh yeah, and had a bunch of BS power-ups too. He’s basically Buu, but without anything that made Buu interesting or distinguished as a character. And his character didn’t even stick around long enough to shed any backstory on what the Legendary Super Saiyan even IS.
Sorry if that’s a bit rambling, but I despise Broly completely and yet love Starlight. They’re two sides of the same concept I suppose, but one side is made of tin and the other is made of silver.

The reason that the ponies that were in battle had medal wings was because during the war, the soldiers that were caught had one or both of their wings torn or ripped off to show how Sombra's army would deal with Intruders or incoming ponies that would try and surprise attack them.

My theory is that Sombra set up air defenses around the Crystal Empire to shoot down any Pegasi that tried approaching. It would shoot holes in their wings, infecting them. They’d need to have them amputated much as soldiers did in past wars with limbs.
