Cold Fear was fantastic, and I def agree, Alone in the Dark: New Nightmare was the best. The first one I ever played. The newly announced one looks promising.
I played the PS1 version. Not impressed. I'm gonna give it another go on PC. Mind you, I was using the original PS1 controller so analog sticks were out of the question. Hopefully the PC version is a better experience. Cold Fear is a favorite of mine. definitely in the top 15-20 of my favorite games of the 2000's.
Played both upon their release and agree they are some of my all time favorite surival horror titles. Extremely underrated. I just finished replaying NN for the first time in years and plan on playing CF next. It honestly feels like the true spiritual successor in the franchise. Here's hoping it makes a comeback someday.
@Big Dawgg I don't know where you heard that, but the devs are called it a remake of the first game with characters from the other two games combined into the plot
The New Alone in the Dark title by THQ Nordic is neither a Remake nor a Reboot. It's a Reimagining of the original with elements from the entire original AITD trilogy. THQ Nordic wouldn't make a remake of the original allegedly due to the original game being too short. So, this Reimagining is the path they took after buying the Alone in the Dark IP in 2019.
Fun fact: Frédérick Raynal, the French creator of Alone in The Dark (and the more recent 2Dark) used to live near my town (in Brive, a city in the center of France).
If there was one ranking list I could classify as objectively correct, it's this. Fundamentally, I only enjoyed three games. AITD 1, AITD 3, and The New Nightmare. The rest I can live without, though AITD 2 does have an amasing soundtrack.
With the first three installments with alone in the dark (and in particular the 3rd one with the bullet puzzle) it is extremely important to read the books. You'll get one that tells you how to solve a puzzle you won't see until halfway through the game. I notice with horror games now you get hints like this to the story and not how to solve puzzles. You get those hints as soon as you get to the puzzle itself.
Great game review 👍👍New 2023-2024 Alone in Dark takes Place 1920s and game releases PS5, PC, Xbox X, I can't wait to play it. I played the first Alone in the Dark on 3do and Beat 2008 version on PS3, the ending was bad but overall game was great.
The game from 2008 that was on the PlayStation 2 that was called along the dark was later called alone in the dark inferno on PlayStation 3. Also for alone in the dark the new nightmare the second characters name wasn't Elaine it was Aline.
Great selection especially for The New Nightmare. I kinda remember when me and my brother played the second one back in the 90s, until we reach to a point when we couldn't finish it to a point that it keeps crashing and giving to play it, until I bought the trilogy with GOG.
Totally agree! Alone in the Dark 1 and Alone in the Dark the new nightmare (2000) were perfect games and hopefully we're going tk have a remake of the original!
I have been a Silent Hill/Resident Evil fanboy since forever. Recently I started my very own PS1 game collection and found Alone in the Dark The New Nightmare for sale for only 30€. So I came here to see if it is worth spending my money on. Being all fan of oldschool survival horror games. I have made up my mind and hope to enjoy the game soon. Thank you!
It's so good to hear someone talk kindly about "Alone In The Dark The New Nightmare". It's one of my childhood games so I thought maybe I'm only attached because of Nostalgia. But I think it has one of the most haunting environments in horror gaming history. I'd love to see it get remade one day, that would be terrifying. Fun Fact it was released on the Game Boy Color believe it or not! And looks surprisingly decent considering the limitations!
Awesome to find another childhood admirer of this game. Loved it from the jump, even bought it without my parents knowing because I knew they wouldn't want me getting scared as a kid. But I honestly loved it and it's still one of my all time favorites. Hoping it gets a faithful remake at some point. Heck, even a direct sequel would be awesome.
@@spoonman4024 I was playing Silent Hill, Resident Evil everything in my childhood. I think it scared my Mum that I 'didn't get scared' as a 7 year old hahahahha. A New Nightmare is one of the only games that haunted me though. I think a mansion on an island is such a terrifying location. It's why I loved The Dark Pictures Anthology The Devil in me, because it's a hotel on an island. So happy to hear someone who views this game as a legacy in horror gaming! I agree even a direct sequel would be incredible.
Im trying to figure out how and why i know this game. I thought maybe I've played it, but I don't recognize any of those footage. Was there maybe a tv show with the same name?
I clicked this video just to figure out what TNN looked like. I had it as a kid but my mom's awful computer could hardly run Microsoft Word so I kept it for a decade or two before it magically disappeared.
The first 3/4 part of the new nightmare was awesome. I loved the puzzles and the horror element. However once when you put in the second disk it starts to lose me. It turns into a supernatural shooter game and ruins everything they accomplished. However I have not played the Elaine story tho.
"I'm the F*cking universe" 😂 I have the feeling I am going to use that quote one day. I'm just going to pick the game on the 360 now that is dirt cheap. However, have you played the more recent Alone in the Dark? I've heard it is pretty solid.
@@TotallyTubularJonathan no problem, I just found your channel so yeah, my bad. Although I still want to use the line "I'm the f*cking universe". I still can't believe the guy who have the voice to Max Payne recorded that line, he must have been laughing out loud like crazy.
The New Nightmare is still my favorite Alone In The Dark game! I still have my original PlayStation game and I still enjoy playing it! I'm always hoping for another good Alone In The Dark game to come along.
The new nightmare is my favourite. However, the game has its faults and could have been even better with some adjustments: - weak final act once you enter the world of darkness. It is just a shooting galery with uninsteresting alien-based scenarios. Also the abkanis plot with its gods is goofy. - better monster designs. The only two creatures that could be considered scary are the zombies and howard morton. - new game +, hard mode - enemies some time spawning in front of you - unlockables
My only complaint here is the first games combat being bad even for the time. I'd say maybe, but there hadn't been 3d combat ever before so technically for the time it was the best 3d combat lol. Soo excited for the remake
I played it on xbox 360. I have heard the release with the subtitle inferno is better. But I doubt it would really change its placement that much on this list
I think Alone in the Dark the New Nightmare is great. But I think the Original Alone in the Dark is so good and so tense. In the New Nightmare I think they strayed a bit too far away from the series art style and combat. It looks so dated with those models on PS1 lol
Why arent they making games like new nightmare anymore? I dont care about over the top graphics. Just give me the scary and colourful atmosphere of the old games.
New Nightmare is just way too hard. That discouraged me from playing it. It’s ridiculous how many bullets it takes to kill one zombie. But the graphics and story really were great. It should have offered different difficulty settings.

New nightmare is definitely the best. The same developers also made "cold fear" which was also overlooked sadly because of re4.

The New nightmare is the best with Inferno coming second
Honestly the title is pretty terrible too. Alone in the Dark: Illumination
Am I alone in the dark, or is there illumination?
i actually quite liked inferno although it did still feel like it could have been better though
New Nightmare was 10x better then RE1
