The only people who’d say Small Brawl was the worst are people who didn’t play Small Brawl. I know the kiddy stuff can be off putting, but the gameplay is top notch - definitely the best on PS1. The stories are on a smaller scale but they aren’t bad. You being in a smaller car actually let them get pretty creative with the levels - instead of cities, you’d have stuff like a bowling alley or a kitchen that, because everything is gigantic to you, feel so fresh compared with the rest of the series. I recently replayed through twisted metal (up to black anyways, don’t have head on anymore unfortunately) and it was definitely the most FUN I had. It’s kinda like how people hated wind Waker, and yet it aged the best out of those older 3D Zelda games. I’d probably still say black is better overall, but when you’re second to arguably the best game in the series and a top 10 game on PS2, you’re a pretty damn good game

Twisted Metal is my favourite series of all time! I’m actually doing videos on my channel now. I agree with most of you’re list but mine are: 8. TM PS3 has hardly any single player content so it’s my least favourite. 7. TM Head On would be great if it wasn’t so easy and had better combat. 6. TM1 is good but barebones I comeback to it sometimes. 5. TM Black single player on hard is awful but I can enjoy the game otherwise. It’s also too dark and the levels are honestly boring by all being grey and black. 4. TM3 I actually really love and I don’t get the hate with it. The only bad thing are the endings and the game is really quick. 3. TM SB I thought I would place lower but my only complaint is that it feels stiff to control. Otherwise this could have been number 2. 2. TM4 is massively underrated and people need to give it a chance. Sure the characters suck but the gameplay is one of the best in the series. Just wish weapons killed you a bit faster. 1. TM2 is my favourite game of all time! I have probably close to 10000 hours played. I know the game better than I know myself. Sure the A.I can freeze spam but other than that I love how they chase you down and have different attack patterns. I also have videos of doing this game deathless on hard with all characters.
I've only ever played the third game, that was in the early 2010s and I don't even remember owning a PlayStation (granted I've owned more Xbox consoles), I can't comment on what I felt about TM3 because I only recall playing it once (probably played it more than once though) and I'm not able to play it again at the moment (all that currently survives of my copy is the back half of the disc case and the PlayStation is probably long since gone), but I recall having some fun with it
Head-on was the last version I played, it was great. I never knew about the ps3 TM. I'm looking at black for ps4. I'm not sure I'm gonna get it. Hoping PS will announce a new game soon
My list has never really changed all these years 🏆 TM2, TM1 & TM4 Never cared too much for black, but that's just me. I'll take the heavy ram damage over everyones lightning acceleration lol
I respect your opinion but I completely disagree about Small Brawl. I didn't play it as much but while it did feel like it was unfinished in the menu and overall aesthetic of the game, the gameplay was solid and arguably the best out of the PS1 games (no car turning upside down, amazing level design, even got a cut ending for Axel) so Putting TMSB below TM3 and TM4 which had worse level design (TM3 Washington and TM4 Maze) plus completely different aesthetic from the original games that they were suppose to follow, objectively should put them below TMSB.
4 felt the most weird to me like it wasn’t a twisted metal game still loved it. I loved all of them but my top ones are 2, head on, 2012 and black. Also I do love tm3 not a joke.
Twisted metal 2 still the best. Most satisfying combat, collision has weight, weapons do perfectly amount of damage to not let battles drag on, variety in levels and cars is the best. Black is very good but Weapons are way too weak and makes killing enemies a chore sometimes. It’s shouldn’t take 30 missiles to kill a motorcycle. And every level looks the same and kinda boring. Car collision in black feels cheap and that cars are made of origami paper
I liked the twisted Metal game that allowed you to create your own car. I think that was part 4. I also liked head on but I really couldn't get a feel for black. I didn't like it.
very much agree Cool fun creative characters and vehicles Amazing soundtrack, Smooth mechanics And Fun stages. Don't really care about lore It's not like it's supposed to have a very deep story mode or anything. To me it's more like a fighting game story mode But with cars And fighting game lore isn't that deep or interesting anyways.
to me i think Twisted Metal: Small Brawl is a alright game, a bit over hated, it's worth a try this would be my list 8: Twisted Metal 3 (this game is just very bad to go back and play, CGI cutscenes are terrible, in game graphics are ok but i can't play through this game unless it's with cheats) 7: Twisted Metal 4 (the better of the 989 Studio games, my only problems were that some of the level design was a bit confusing Minion's Maze being a example and Sweet Tooth being a broken af character JESUS H CHRIST Sweet Tooth's special in TM4 was PAIN, if you were using a low armor character and got caught in the special say goodbye to that life) 6: Twisted Metal: Small Brawl (i think this game gets a bit to much hate, the level design is pretty interesting, graphics are decent, it's a alright game, i can understand why people don't like the game cause of the tone the only two things to me that i don't like is who underwheiling Piecemeal is as a final boss and some weapons don't feel fun to use, honestly give this game a try it's good) 5: Twisted Metal 1 (this game is good but sadly, it doesn't hold up well ramming enemies with high armored characters like, Darkside, Hammerhead and Sweet Tooth is kinda broken, you can drain so much health just from ramming into enemies, the a.i can be unfair seeing that they only hunt you down, to me if you goin back to this one u can use cheats) 4: Twisted Metal 2 (now hear me out, this game is very good, my only problem is the a.i THEY WANT YOUR HEAD ON A PLATTER !!! unless the a.i accidently un alives themselves they won't attack each other, all the a.i wants is to run your fade and when they catch in a freeze spam and constantly hit with their infinite specials it's not fun) 3: Twisted Metal 2012 (can't comment on this one as much cause i never played this one my only problem is that there wasn't a tournament mode like the old school Twisted Metal games and there was only 3 characters in the story mode Sweet Tooth, Mr Grimm and Dollface) 2: Twisted Metal: Head On (for a sequel to Twisted Metal 2, this is a very fun game, i like the upgrade mechanic for when you defeat someone, think the only problem i have is the Tower Tooth fight, the second phase SUCKS !" 1: Twisted Metal: Black (still to this day one of the best TM games in the franchise, sure the dark tone may not be for everyone but when it comes to gameplay this game is fun as heck, the only problem i have is that almost all the level have the same color theme i know it's for the game but it's not really nice to look at sometimes and once again the a.i just HATES you, thankfully it's not like Twisted Metal 2 when you can be stuck in a freeze spam, if it's still available on the PS GET IT AND PLAY IT !!!!, it doesn't disable trophies if you use cheats btw)
Small Brawl is definitely underrated. The levels are fun, the characters are good, the music is good, the visuals .... eh I can KINDA see why people hate on it since came out after Black, but it's kinda silly and TM has always had a sense of silly to it, aside from black up to this point.
Nice reviews, I like them all but my overall ranking is: 1. TM2 2. TM Head-On 3. TM Black 4. TM 4 5. TM 1 6. TM Small Brawl 7. TM 3 I missed PS3 so i'm not ranking TM 2012. Best car is Twister btw.
I actually preferred 989s versions. I played a tiny bit of 2 and it wasn't better than 3. 4 took a hard turn for me from 3 but nothing about the other games ever interested me. I do not like it when a title goes from a numbered series to individual titles and the stories being told are exactly my point as to why. Everyone gives 989 shit for ruining the canon.... Like pay a little more attention, all 989 did was take a game about a twisted car competition with a man able to give you anything should you win and continue to do that. 1 and 2 couldn't even make the characters tangibly similar, how was a new studio going to fix those inconsistencies? It wasn't, it was just going to take em a run with em. Look at Sweet Tooth betwen 1,2,3 and 4. All different characters. One can easily assume 989 did what the previous titles were doing beforehand. One can assume that canonically; Twisted Metal is meant to be inconsistent. So it comes down to nostalgia gameplay music and characters...and of the games I've played in the series; 3 was the stand out. That intro is burnt into my memory and its a good thing
You think Small Brawl is the worst because the thematic? Its so dumb. The gameplay is better than the older games and the way his change the mature elements is pretty funny
For me Twisted Metal the first one will be in four place third place would be head on second police will be twisted metal black and first place will be Twisted Metal 2 and Twisted Metal 2012 the racing in it sucked really bad and some of the challenges was never that good this game was going to be an online-only game story when goody there three characters really hurted for me

The show came out recently and was actually good shockingly
I have only played Black BTW and it's my favourite of them all.
Would love to see the original trilogy get a remaster with updated graphics and controls.
Twisted metal series is great! Season two should be around soon. Twisted metal 2 is the best game!
I played 4 the most on playstation 1, and i also loved it lol. Of course black is the goat though that i put the most time into of them all.
My list has never really changed all these years
🏆 TM2, TM1 & TM4
Never cared too much for black, but that's just me. I'll take the heavy ram damage over everyones lightning acceleration lol
04:21, if Small Brawl wasn't so slow paced and the vehicle handling was more similar to 3 and 4, SB would be a lot better
Need a collection with the 5 ps1 games and both ps2 games and and ps3 game and psp game all on disc for ps5 with all dlc etc
honestly for me tm1,tm3,tm4,tm2,tmho,tm2012,tmsb,tmblack
4 felt the most weird to me like it wasn’t a twisted metal game still loved it. I loved all of them but my top ones are 2, head on, 2012 and black. Also I do love tm3 not a joke.
Yeah i tried tm4. Tm always tries to be grounded but tm4 it has a futuristic car, level, alien, shrink ray. It's so whacky.
@@sexybrunchset8881 yup very carnival like lol still fun
The pal version of black has no cutscenes
I guess I'm the only lame who actually had fun with small brawl when I was like 5
I love old school ps1 dated graphics
I didn't like it.
idk why people dont like 3. I enjoyed TM3. 2 obviously is goated imo.
The online was so frustrating, couldn't find any matches, it was laggy and people just trolled you with Talon.
Playstations Disinterest in this franchise is beyond disappointing
21:49 im sorry are you playing as darkside on head-on?
Twisted Metal III has ALWAYS and will ALWAYS be my favorite Twisted Metal game.
Sorry if that offends anyone. 😏
very much agree Cool fun creative characters and vehicles Amazing soundtrack, Smooth mechanics And Fun stages. Don't really care about lore It's not like it's supposed to have a very deep story mode or anything. To me it's more like a fighting game story mode But with cars And fighting game lore isn't that deep or interesting anyways.
My order of favorites are 2, 4 and Black. Really enjoyed 3, played it for years.
Tis very good information to have.
to me i think Twisted Metal: Small Brawl is a alright game, a bit over hated, it's worth a try this would be my list
8: Twisted Metal 3 (this game is just very bad to go back and play, CGI cutscenes are terrible, in game graphics are ok but i can't play through this game unless it's with cheats)
7: Twisted Metal 4 (the better of the 989 Studio games, my only problems were that some of the level design was a bit confusing Minion's Maze being a example and Sweet Tooth being a broken af character JESUS H CHRIST Sweet Tooth's special in TM4 was PAIN, if you were using a low armor character and got caught in the special say goodbye to that life)
6: Twisted Metal: Small Brawl (i think this game gets a bit to much hate, the level design is pretty interesting, graphics are decent, it's a alright game, i can understand why people don't like the game cause of the tone the only two things to me that i don't like is who underwheiling Piecemeal is as a final boss and some weapons don't feel fun to use, honestly give this game a try it's good)
5: Twisted Metal 1 (this game is good but sadly, it doesn't hold up well ramming enemies with high armored characters like, Darkside, Hammerhead and Sweet Tooth is kinda broken, you can drain so much health just from ramming into enemies, the a.i can be unfair seeing that they only hunt you down, to me if you goin back to this one u can use cheats)
4: Twisted Metal 2 (now hear me out, this game is very good, my only problem is the a.i THEY WANT YOUR HEAD ON A PLATTER !!! unless the a.i accidently un alives themselves they won't attack each other, all the a.i wants is to run your fade and when they catch in a freeze spam and constantly hit with their infinite specials it's not fun)
3: Twisted Metal 2012 (can't comment on this one as much cause i never played this one my only problem is that there wasn't a tournament mode like the old school Twisted Metal games and there was only 3 characters in the story mode Sweet Tooth, Mr Grimm and Dollface)
2: Twisted Metal: Head On (for a sequel to Twisted Metal 2, this is a very fun game, i like the upgrade mechanic for when you defeat someone, think the only problem i have is the Tower Tooth fight, the second phase SUCKS !"
1: Twisted Metal: Black (still to this day one of the best TM games in the franchise, sure the dark tone may not be for everyone but when it comes to gameplay this game is fun as heck, the only problem i have is that almost all the level have the same color theme i know it's for the game but it's not really nice to look at sometimes and once again the a.i just HATES you, thankfully it's not like Twisted Metal 2 when you can be stuck in a freeze spam, if it's still available on the PS GET IT AND PLAY IT !!!!, it doesn't disable trophies if you use cheats btw)
What? Small Brawl is good with creative level design and banging music!
Small Brawl is definitely underrated. The levels are fun, the characters are good, the music is good, the visuals .... eh I can KINDA see why people hate on it since came out after Black, but it's kinda silly and TM has always had a sense of silly to it, aside from black up to this point.
I would put head on at #2 and tw2 at #3.
Nice reviews, I like them all but my overall ranking is:
1. TM2
2. TM Head-On
3. TM Black
4. TM 4
5. TM 1
6. TM Small Brawl
7. TM 3
I missed PS3 so i'm not ranking TM 2012. Best car is Twister btw.
Good list my top 4 has always been 2 head on black and 2012
I agree with this list. TM 3, 4 and Small Brawl are the worst but when it comes to TM 1, 2, Black and Head On those games are amazing
Twisted metal 4 and black are the best for me
Twisted Metal 2 is the best for me. I hate how dark the colour palettes became from Black onwards. It's so unappealing to me.
How does Small Brawl lose so many points for being easy, but it's a pass for Head-On? Both are very easy
You failed to explain why TM1 was objectively at number 5 of 8, far ahead of 3? Of its' sequels. Good job
Twisted metal 2012 tm 4 tm black are my top three
I like twisted metal and superheroes
Tm 1 tm 2 tm black tm small tm head on tm 4 and tm 3 r my favorite
No new twisted metal needed, just black remake 👀
Small Brawl is my second favorite, only beat out by Black.
I have to respectfully disagree with your small brawl placement.
Honestly, I like Small Brawl more than 3 and 4.
Hell yeah
I dont care what people say ps5 disc can hold all them on one disc all 9
i think i just play ps3 because of graphics and you say it has a good story and combat
twisted metal 4 is my favorite.
TM: Black is definitely the best.
Ps3 twisted metal is my favorite
My rankings are
1. TM Black
2. TM PS3
3. TM Head On
4. TM 2
5. TM 3
6. TM
I havent played TMSB
7. TM 4
For me Twisted Metal the first one will be in four place third place would be head on second police will be twisted metal black and first place will be Twisted Metal 2 and Twisted Metal 2012 the racing in it sucked really bad and some of the challenges was never that good this game was going to be an online-only game story when goody there three characters really hurted for me
i cant see anything in twisted metal black. its too dark.
