Or not. 🤭) But in all seriousness: Oh. My. Goodness.... The definition you put into the left hand is so strong, it makes it sound like you're playing two different songs at the same time. 😆👀 Absolute (and I do say absolute!!) Heyyy George!! Ah you're too sweet with your compliments 😆 I definitely am not perfect at playing Joplin's music or Ragtime in general but thank you 😅 I do wonder what Joplin would think if he heard some of my covers... Haha, your description had me laughing irl, my performances are decent but I don't think the "ENTIRE corner of the earth would turn around to tune in" 🤭 but that would be cool if I must say :P You're very funny and sweet 🤗 I definitely got better with my left hand stride and it is much more prominent now in the rags, and I also have more confidence overall ☺ And ahhh about the ending, I actually got it from BachScholar's video LOL 🤣 so don't give me the credit haha! I loved how he ended "Original Rags" and I mimicked it for myself 😆 he has some very cool little changes and additions, and this is one implemented for myself. (I'm not sure how you even were able to mimic the great BachScholar himself. 😲 It's hard enough to follow along with some of the wild additions he adds in certain rags. 😆) I had just taken a listen to his version of Original Rags since I had not heard him play it before and you were pretty spot on with it! 👏🏾 Quite the performance indeed, I always come back and pop one of your videos on my walks back home from the gym. What I love from the first day on that I saw your ragtime videos is your expressional commenting what you've done and accomplished, which is obvious here as well when your dedicated face allows some smiles flit across itself when you mastered some phrase you might have been not too sure of, LOL. There seems to be nothing to comment on your playing style on first watching. You did everything in a marvellous way. Hi Joe, thanks for the comment, I love your wonderful details and reassurance 😊 I certainly have improved alot and I am so proud of myself to see & hear the change after a year+. It is nice going back to older rags learnt and finding areas where I could improve and make better (I have a few more rags I plan on re-doing with some time). Ah, yes, I did make the effort to reveal and depict my trouble areas from a piece back then, I felt the need to in the video descriptions in case anyone wants to point it out in the comments as if I did not know myself LOL. But now, I have alot more confidence and don't feel the need to point out any "flaws" (there will always be atleast one flaw in a performance). And you're right about my little smiles, I do express some smiles when I make it through some difficult measures 😅 Ah the lovely dancing couple statue, I still have it and it is always on my piano standing and "dancing" as I play music. Thanks so much! 😁 Good luck with MLR, it really is not that hard as it seems after some practice. Nice to meet another fellow rag-enthusiast and pianist! 🎹
@@Natt_piano Ty! Sister, I just learned the intro through to the part where it repeats (before changing into a whole other jive lol) and you just might be impressed. 😅 Scott Joplin is the way to go! Haha
@@handfulloscotts807 the first section is such a catchy and iconic part of this genre 🎶 the third section really is a whole other jive haha 😎 don’t be intimidated by it, it’s not that hard as people may think! If you ever post a video of your playing, let me know, I’d love to see it! :)
Thanks so much! 😎 I actually learned two Marshall rags and shared them on here, I am almost done working on "The Peach", and will share that here eventually. I like learning the Marshall rags in-between Joplin's for now, but there's so many other composers to tackle with time 😁
I really enjoy your performances of Scott Joplin's ragtimes. I enjoy them more than many by more technically proficient pianists. Mainly, because you can tell that you really care. Also, because you play them at moderate tempos, which Joplin clearly stated was what he intended. I like that you play them from memory. I'm able to memorize, but I don't like doing it very much. I often play by ear, but Joplin is different from a lot of music I play; it's not a lead sheet, where you improvise the accompaniment. It's definitely a challenge to play it well. I look forward to hearing more. If you don't mind a suggestion, I think you might like Jelly Roll Morton's piano pieces. There's a very good edition of them from Schirmer.
Thanks so much for your kind comment! I'm really glad that you enjoy my simple Ragtime playing 😁 I am a self-taught pianist and dove straight into learning how to play Ragtime because I love this music very much, and I'm glad that passion for this music shines to the viewers. I have limitations in my technique and fingering, but I navigate around it as best as I could. And yes, I try to keep the tempos at a "moderate" tempo mostly, sometimes the rag's character is better suited at a quicker tempo. I find it much easier to memorize the pieces, I cannot sight-read at all 😂 But that is really nice that you have the ability to play by ear! Thanks for the support 😊 I do like Jelly Roll Morton's music; but I think his works are out of my playing scope at this time as they seem to be quite challenging for me, plus I have not played Jazz yet. But one day, I'd love to play his music - thanks for the suggestion!
@@Natt_piano You're very welcome. Reading music is just like anything else, if you practice it, you'll get better. The basic idea isn't difficult. Jelly Roll Morton wrote out his arrangements and had them published at the time, so they're not so very different from Joplin's compositions in that sense. They are a little more difficult and I find it harder to figure out what they're supposed to sound like than with Joplin. With Joplin, it's always perfectly clear. Anyway, Morton's music will still be there, if you ever feel inclined to try playing it. I think it's good to be self-taught. I had piano lessons as a child, so it's not quite the same thing, but I'm self-taught on the other instruments I play. It's kind of a mixed blessing having musical training. One can tell that you're using your ears and that's the most important thing, in my opinion.
@@laurencefinston7036 Exactly - the more you practice the more you get better, in anything! I surely made progress since my early days of my channel, and will continue to get better & better. Indeed, there are some similarities with Mr. Morton & Joplin's music. Joplin's music can be so melodic and it definitely captured me to learn to play piano to play his music 🙂I find Mr. Morton's music more complex in some ways, but I definitely want to play his works along with other composers too, with time. Being self-taught definitely has alot of limitations, but the one good thing is that I did not acquire any "professional bias", if you will, as I formed my own style and technique that suits me. But that's really great you taught yourself other instruments, music really is a beautiful skill to play 😃I wonder if playing by ear is easier on the other instruments you play or on the piano. Thanks for your kindness & comments!
@@Natt_piano Yes, in a way it's easier to learn to play by ear on some other instruments. On a piano, just a melody of single notes sounds kind of thin, whereas on a trumpet or a violin or a harmonica that's the normal way of playing them and you get a "big sound". I really learned how to play by ear on the guitar, but it works just as well on any instrument, including the piano. The most important thing is the melody (in my opinion); figuring out harmonies is secondary. It's nice to be able to do it, of course. Very few people can just sit down and play them immediately after hearing a piece of music. Some music theory helps with this. But the essential thing is really the melody (together with the rhythm). I was actively discouraged from playing by ear when I took music lessons as a child, which I think was the worst part of taking music lessons. That was the normal way of teaching at that time and I'm afraid things haven't changed that much since then (although it was more than 50 years ago). I don't want to be presumptuous, but for what it's worth, I think you're on the right track. If you care to, you could listen to a couple of my music videos to see if you think my opinion is worth listening to. I think anyone who offers opinions or suggestions should be willing to show what they can do, so people can judge whether it's worthwhile listening to them or not. They might be useful to one person and not to another.
@@laurencefinston7036 I figured that it would be easier to learn by ear for some instruments, such as wind ones, over piano I do love the "big sound" of trumpets and saxophones. Oh interesting, you learned to play by ear on the guitar, I would think that that's one of the hardest instruments to learn by ear! I can picture it; understanding the melodies or single notes is probably the basis and harmonies or chords are secondary. I'm music theory is so helpful in general, especially when playing by ear. I have very little music theory knowledge at this moment. It always amazes me how some people can listen to a song and just play it immediately by ear without much thought or practice. You bring a good point about music lessons - some instructors don't allow the student to play by ear and solely have them learn through reading notes & music theory; nothing wrong with that, but I think it is beneficial and should be encouraged to let the student play by ear if one has that ability. And yes - people have the ability to give their opinions and feedback on YT, but it helps when the commentator can demonstrate their expertise or experience in some way, so the receiving end can know if it's worthwhile listening to feedback or not indeed. And I did listen to "Carolina in the Morning" 😃
@@Natt_piano haha I could tell it sounded almost exactly the same I sometimes get inspired by performers too especially Tom Brier or Richard Zimmerman when they sometimes do the octave scale in the left hand and now I do that too sometimes. Cory was great especially the giant strides he does but unfortunately he has slowed a lot of his pieces down
@@kingsbishop1479 it’s cool you noticed who I got it from haha :) it’s fun getting ideas from other performers to change up the pieces. Oh Tom Brier is amazing, he’s on a whole other scale 😂 I love hearing his Nintendo covers. Oh yeah Cory did slow a lot of the pieces down. He’s still super great but I think I prefer his older videos, I use his “slow videos” to help me with tricky finger placements
@@kingsbishop1479 LOL same, us younger people like "faster" ragtime, but that's always a debate where some people like rags played slow while some like it fast, you can't please everyone 😬

Hi Natalie, its been a while now, I hope you have been ok, another lovely performance, i started to learn this one myself a few years ago, but never got around to finishing it, maybe I will try again now, i love the way you put your own little bits into it, once again keep up the good work and have a lovely weekend. Great music Natalie.
Thanks, Terry 😊
Excellent! I'm currently learning Maple Leaf Rag. So fun! Great work and don't stop practicing! 😊 Proud of you, fellow pianist. 🎉
Tempo okay, recht gute linke Hand! Ganz im Sinne von Joplin!❤
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this 🎹❤️
정말 빛나는 연주입니다.

Wow, thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it 🎹☺️
Really nice performance!
What will you play after all Scott Joplin's Rags?
Thanks so much! 😎 I actually learned two Marshall rags and shared them on here, I am almost done working on "The Peach", and will share that here eventually. I like learning the Marshall rags in-between Joplin's for now, but there's so many other composers to tackle with time 😁
Well done. You made my day:)!
I'm glad to hear that, Dominic! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this rag 😊
Lovely play..😊

4:42 did you get that last part off Cory Hall?
Yes I did, I get inspired by Cory’s interpretations :)
@@Natt_pianosame i prefer his older ones too as i am still young i prefer faster haha
@@kingsbishop1479 LOL same, us younger people like "faster" ragtime, but that's always a debate where some people like rags played slow while some like it fast, you can't please everyone 😬
Is this speeded up ?
No? it is not
