Gotta love Dave, never a loss for words, you ask him what time it is and he'll tell you how to build a watch
😂😂😂
The man is unique, with a huge personality, and very intelligent. I don't know if we'll ever see anyone quite like him again. Much like the band he wrote lyrics for.
original van halen .....classic....always will be....
I never thought Rock would die man...sucks. So glad I grew up in the 70's and 80's.
@@mechagojira6951 ME TOO. NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD DIE AND IN RETROSPECT, I WISHED I EMBRACED IT A LITTLE MORE.
Unfortunately i think your right, cause in their prime Van Halen was untouchable, and bands that pay their dues before they make it like Van Halen did just aren’t in demand any more, it’s very unfortunate.
@@claytoncarey2128 : Yup! You said the key phrase...."bands that pay their dues" is spot on!
Back then, a band had to work really hard to get attention. Really hard! It took tons of money and effort to make the band noticeable. But these days, it's easy-come-easy-go. And it's all because of over-saturation; due to You Tube and other social media.
Peace brother.
i think people who claim to really dislike DLR just wish they were more like him. he makes people uncomfortable because he makes people confront their own internal hang ups and everything they never did and never do. i think he gets more of that than almost anyone because of how intelligent and at ease he is with himself.
I couldn't live his life .
But I love his music and respect his free spirit.
Funny guy full of life
Some people don't like him because he's obnoxious and have no desire to be like him
When I was 19 years old, playing guitar in a band, I kind of took on his lingo and attitude, and holy crap: that summer was an adventure! My true nature is mellow, but it was fun while it lasted!
Diamond Dave, Legend.
David Roth is Mr. perso nality plus....Hes so witty and cute...11/11/21
Better believe it
Greatest. Frontman. Ever. Dave has a kind of a Sneaky intelligence to him. He's a sharp guy with an obvious priority on just enjoying life.
Perfectly put.' ain't gonna tell you gonna put it to music...'
Yes! 100%
Miss these times so much man. We were all so young. I was in 10th grade and 16 years young at this time. And heavily into Ed mostly; but Van Halen as a whole band naturally.
Van Halen had it all in these times. They were litteraly on top of the scene. Nobody could say a bad thing about VH. From the very start; there was Ed fans and Dave fans ( all women for Dave) at the beggining. And that never stopped. Dave attracted the girls and Eddie attracted the guys. And ultimately they always had awesome shows. Their live performances were truly an Epic event in those days. Man I miss those times so much.
R.I.P EDDIE VAN HALEN. You are loved forever by your fans. We will never forget. God bless you brother. God bless you. Amen.
Well Ed attracted this girl
I’d give anything to go back to 1982.
I'm just glad you are telling it like it is --- I get so sick of these Millenials and history revisionists who say David Lee was a guy who couldn't sing and only got the gig because he had a PA system --- I was a teen in the 80's and remember Dave being the FACE and VOICE of Van Halen and he was a big part of making that band so monstrous and popular --- don't be telling me it was all about Eddie because it wasn't because I was there!
@@BigBass-xf5yi fuck yea.i was 7.. singing songs with a broomstick.lol
I get more enjoyment from listening to Dave talk. He is classic, man. This guy is so funny.
Young Dave Yes, Old Dave can grate on you after too long.
People don’t realize that Dave was the defacto manager in those days. He articulated a vision of their music. He was handsome, charming, funny, and accessible to the media. Fascinating that his cultural references were over the top American business icons like Disney and Ray Kroc. Van Halen was like those American archetypes.
They have become an American staple like baseball, apple pie, and Chevrolet’s!
@@claytoncarey2128 that is why after Eddie's death, I got V H tattoo. The only tattoo I have. ! NO REGRETS
A literal cultural phenomenon.
There's twelve billion excersize books and pencil cases sitting in landfill right now with that logo on them waiting for the archeologists. How lucky we are to have been around at the same time as this band?!
One of the best entertainers EVER!! Doesn't have the best singing voice, but has a GREAT rock voice. And he sure knows how to put on a show. I've seen him twice in concert and both times were magic. He just wanted to be in control of the party.
Actually i think he does arguably have the best voice in rock
@@warriorv9359 maybe at best .....HAD.
You can add Mick Jagger into that conversation about being the greatest frontman ever. Or what about David Lee the American best frontman and Jagger the best British frontman!?
@@dmzabo3914 I don't think David Lee Roth is THE greatest frontman ever. I just know I've seen a lot of concerts and he really puts on a great show. He was always there to perform and have fun with the crowd. Jagger is definitely fun to watch. I've never seen him live, so I can't really say he's THE best frontman.
Amazing frontman and actually quite a good voice, in my opinion.
Love David Lee Roth - he's a legend ⭐
DLR is living three lives at once, most people don't even live one to the fullest
I find that Dave's approach to life is a fun way to go. It's how to be in society. You can't take too much seriously.
We used to blast VH every weekend in my friend's room while partying and smoking weed in high school with our friends. This was way back in '82-'85. Best times of my life. And i have to say the David Lee Roth was made for MTV (and the 80's were a perfect time)!
I agree with that....
I LOVE HIS OLD INTERVIEWS AS WELL AS HIS NEWEST ONES! WHAT A FREAKING AWESOME CHARACTER!🤘👍👊💪🇺🇸
Dave, your pretty damn intelligent plus your personality is so entertaining & addictive I can watch you talk all day.
This guy totally gets him!!! He’s laughing and laughing! Unlike Joe Rogan who just sat there and stared at him. The last interviewer guy was great. (Doug?) Great for DLR!!!
Not the LAST last guy (the cupcake) he was a fucking dick. ‘Are you a fuck up?’ DLR should have said, no, but you are. He sucked! I meant the guy BEFORE him.
Rogan is a low-IQ dipshit --- same as Commie Trump --- DLR is light years beyond simpletons like this when it comes to higher-order thinking
One could say, Joe did the best thing you can do with David lee Roth, and let him be him, he'll fly the plane.
well in his defense Dave is not as funny anymore
@@SonnyGTA I agree totally. And Rogan looked like he was tired, or high, or something. Or maybe because DLR has a high IQ, he's always thinking, learning, taking things in. He's definitely one of a kind.
“Life is not a popularity contest”
Says most popular man in the world at the time. Lol I love DLR, his interviews are the best ‘Tube rabbit hole
I respect Dave for letting interviewers complete a sentence before speaking
Nobody will remplace Dave with the same personality and R&R soul.
Without Dave, Halen was lost in space.
Sammy was better
@@TheJpep2424 Lol
Huh? Van Hagar was cool in its own way.... it was still Eddie and Alex at its core...
Right! They lost their way even before Sammy. They were starting to change to become the Van Halen post Roth. Dave was against that. He wanted it to stay the same. That’s why he truly left the band. Watch the Largo show here on utube. That is the Van Halen we all came to love. Dave and the band at the top of their game. Nothing but pure loud raw attitude. The HIDE YOUR SHEEP tour was the last great tour they ever did. The 1984 tour wasn’t the same band probably due to the internal feuding going on. When Sammy joined it changed even more. They became even more commercial and polished than 1984.
@@JsscRchlDrsy yes, 1984 was good but not magic like others tour of the past. Maybe high voltage in the band. However the last year with Original line up.
Eddy wanted a different direction and Hagar was the best for that.
Dave is like a diamond in the ruff. He is so funny and sweet I could listen to him jive talk all night. I love watching him dance and sing best entertainer singer ever.
Love Diamond Dave...it's my rainbow...The man's a national treasure too bad someone hadn't realized it yet
Van Halen will always be my favorite band , no other American rock band, than and now, has had the flamboyant charisma, stage dynamics and different unique personalities as Van Halen did.
*In addition, no other band sounds like Van Halen.
Diamond Dave - what a guy. He's such a fantabulous entertainer. Intelligent and hella fun!!!!!!
Fantabulous is such a great word,I haven`t heard anyone except me using it for a looooong time!
THE Interview when Dave is wearing the hat had me in tears!!!!
DAVID A EXAMPLE OF SOMEONE BEING THEMSELVES, IF THAT MEANS BEING A TREND SETTER THEN SO BE IT. DEFINITELY NOT A FOLLOWER..
I love this!! He just is loving life & I enjoy watching him enjoy it, lol.
Renaissance man and true punk rocker / riot waiting to happen - in the best possible way. A true inspiration and hero. All hail the king, DDLR!
This was the most entertaining half hour of my life, lol!
You should really get out more
@@tomlewis5542 Says the guy who has nothing better to do than troll youtube message forums to make snarky comments.
This man is a living legend, truly a recognized God in the world of rock n' roll. His voice has been one of the most important, most influential, and most listened to on rock radio for the last 40 years.
Sitting next to the great one, the "Lonesome L.A. Cowboy", Mr. Jim Ladd, in this episode of INNERVIEW is longtime friend and Van Halen gang-member, Mr. David Lee Roth.
I really wonder what would have been if Dave had stayed? I don’t hate Van Hagar. In fact, the band sounded tighter than ever. However, their music lost its tongue-in-cheek charm when Dave went solo.
God, I love Dave! He's the kinda guy that if we were both holding ice cubes--
he'd try to convince u his is colder...
IN 1982 VAN HALEN WAS EASILY HANDS DOWN THE WORLDS BIGGEST BAND.🎸🎸
this band had a good fucking life!! ❤❤❤
Too bad they threw it all away two years later.
THE Greatest Frontman Ever.
"No guts, no gain". I wish I had more of it now at 59.
Same, 52.
The guy just loves being on. Certainly friendly.
‘82 Dave’s Spicoli phase! Love it!
And in perfect cognitive correlation, ‘Spicoli ‘82 Dave phase, which I always loved about DLR and Spicoli he was like definitely cut from the same cloth!
Pun2404 Hardly. Smart business man.
the Doug Pringle interview is fucking classic! Dave being Dave to the extreme.
The interviewer guy is really cool he’s thoroughly getting a kick out of this he’s laughing his ass off if you listen closely you can hear them try to hide his laughing when the cameras not on him
Dave’s right. Doing drugs is not the problem. Running out of drugs is when the problems start. Lol
DLR was blessed to make a lot of money from his Van Halen career ---- I doubt he has problems buying drugs LOL
very true especially for heroin addicts. it's not the drug that make them dysfunctional. it's chasing the drug when the money runs out.
@@tyronejefforeillyramirez7961 I would say having your heart stop after using some bad stuff, or too much, is worse than the chase.
@@heyjarrod those are the inexperienced and basically stupid druggies who still chase a higher high. I been dealing with heroin addicts since 1970. I've seen some overdoses over the years.
@@tyronejefforeillyramirez7961 Some overdoses!? I never knew an addict that didn’t overdose. Not so much the tolerance, but getting bad shit off the street. Most people can’t pay for the good stuff. But I do feel sorry for addicts, that’s a tough life!
DIAMOND DAVID LEE ROTH
Love the Roth.❤ The mold was definitely broken when God made him. Best frontman of all time. Legend.
Amazingly smart, witty & looks good in absolutely anything. Love the Diamond.
His use of adjectives, verbs, and life comparisons on the fly is great. His dad was a doctor and a novelist.
He did, singlehandedly, set up an 80's Rock Star's dress code...
He looked great right up until about 1983,but best of all in the 1970s.
Always surprised looking back and seeing how humble he actually was. It's a very interesting to see how their attitude simply, doing what they feel is right and unapologetic about it. Actually more honest than most people in entertainment. Echoes Tool interviews. Just normal guys who have a vision of what they want to create and don't care what others think.
I think I got a contact high from watching this.
👍
Why
😎🔥
He sure could talk. LEGEND!
Dave talks like a super stoned John Wayne during this era. Love it.
He’s the best.
A born star.A true one-off..He could only ever have been a product of the crazy 1960s and 1970s.
This is so great. Thanks for uploading this. I enjoy both the lucid coherent Dave and the proudly-coked-out of-his-freaking-mind Dave equally. I'm glad he was so open to letting everybody ride his rainbow with him. I can see how this could wear thin if you were close to him at the time though lol
The guitar player from the pretenders I partied with was dead shortly after this interview...
Probably the living human being I'd most like to be stuck in a lift with..and of course one of us would be in possession of a large bag of weed.
"Lots of businessmen onstage nowadays". Kiss......are you listening?!!!
😂😂😂😂😂i caught that! Lmao
The interview with Martha Quinn was Dave at the top of his game ! The coolest motherfucker on the planet !!!!
David Lee Roth, talking to the camera and America: "Go ahead...change the channel...I'm on all the rest too". 😎
💥 DIAMOND DAVID LEE ROTH 💥
Roth is hilarious
DLR was the epitome of the term 'rock star' in the early 80s in my book.
The man !
He's 26 years old here and fully formed.
A real person no puppet on a set of strings
I always admired that about DLR --- he forges his own way --- unlike Commie Trump who takes marching orders from Putin and Kim Jong like a little puppet
@@jerrybulger5267 good thing we have joe bidens stupid ass instead to lead the charge! Orange man bad!!!!!!
Holy $H|t Diamond Dave was in his own hemisphere and I'm ok with that.
In those days he was the sexiest man alive and still he's got the sexiest voice ever! ❤🤗
My husband turned on Van Halen at typical drummer volume for the first time our 2 Siamese kittens ever heard music and they both ran into the bathroom in shock! One stayed wrapped in the shower curtain 2 hours after we turned the stereo off. Guess we are going to have to ease them into music. Hubby suggested some quiet Willie Nelson to begin with but we haven't dared to try it again yet.
Doug: what do your parents think of what you're doing?
DLR: well I wouldn't use the word "highly"
😂😂😂classic!😂😂😂
Between 78-85. The most exciting front man on the planet. Fronting the most exciting band on the planet. Long live THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN.
I love you David! You are beautiful!!
I wish Dave was young now starting out with Van Halen...Could you imagine a guy like him in the present? He would have been the BIGGEST star today. Looks and personality...imagine him on Americas Got Talent..hahaha he'd wipe the floor with everyone else...He'd leave Simon Cowell speechless
Whoever Doug is I'd say he never laughed so much interviewing someone lol
When rock and pro wrestling ruled the scene, there was Dave at the forefront.
David was very careful with his cocaine use. Careful to keep it up.
Dave did coke with Ozzy. You can find the story. It's hysterical. Roth was on stage the next night, Ozzy was missing for days
Gorgeous, outrageous, smart and exceptionally good looking. Still is....who doesn't LOVE David Lee Roth...hot, hot, hot
I always wondered why women fancied these guys who looked like women.
@@martymartin2894
Such a tired comment
Saw the Fair Warning tour at Madison Square Garden in 1981. Paid a scalper $35 which seemed OUTRAGEOUS. Oh that poor opening band was shamelessly abused. Good times.
I tell people all the time that if I had a time machine I’d go back to 1981 to see the fair warning tour. I bet that was amazing.
@@DrewMIATL it was!
So funny! Pure joy and entertainment! Totally positive!
Ya gotta give it to him.. . he's honest
Back in the day when Dave was cool. Miss that time..
Come on brother once coo always coo- Thee atomic punk! lol✌
Dave will always be cool
God...my father HATED him. Now, he looks amazingly like my father did.
Don Kerschner was THE rock & roll promoter back in So.Calif. He managed, discovered most bad ass rock bands!
The best, period!
Listening to him, he actually sounds coherent and intelligible. Nothing like what he sounds like today with his gibberish.
If u cant fully remember the 80's.....I FEEL SORRY FOR YOUUUUUU! HAHA! BORN IN 75....THANK GOD...I CAUGHT THE WAVE!🔥🔥🔥🔥😅😅😅😅
That's Entertainment!
It's interesting that he says he can't cite a single musical inspiration or influence. Really not about the music for him, even though he wrote some great lyrics and was a skilled front man. All about Dave.
Dave says "alternative band" in 1982. 4:34
I noticed that.
And?
He’s very witty and just enjoying life no ego girls girls girls
Fine AF and intelligent!
I'm always amused that women fancied these guys who looked like women.
Being from So Cal back them and a fan before they hit big Dave reflected many of the local surfers with the hair and bare chest that look was common. Tons of eye candy for the chicks. The surfer hair color was common among those who hung out at the beach and caused by salt water and sun. Purely 100% So. Cal. before it was ruined by liberals.@@martymartin2894
If you didn't grow up in the 80's then you just don't get it --- back then teen girls loved the blond surfer look --- dark tan and muscular hairy chest with the sun-bleached hair --- DLR capitalized on this look to score a truckload of pussy in every town that VH toured in --- his dick probably needed a constant infusion of penicillin from the non-stop poon he was getting
NO SHIT GIRL ❤❤❤❤
Marty Martin
😂who r u talking about?? the interviewer???
👉BECAUSE DLR IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM LOOKS FEMININE.

BAHAHAHAHA
Again excellent communications!
To this day I have never listened to van hager or any other singer because there's only one van fucking halen only one DLR
Could someone please transport me back to this time . I will behave...I promise
SWEET JESUS!!!
He would be the perfect politician, takes 20 minutes to make a one minute point.
He would make a much better politician than Commie Trump --- his Tweets would actually be coherent and intelligent
But he makes the 20mins interesting unlike politicians
DAMN is he a yapper ... I had to hit mute
He's exhausting after awhile, so yeah a perfect point lol

Definitely...and one of the smartest. DLR was a little partying , but a whole lot of business .
i cant imagine Ed having to spend hours with this guy writing songs. This has to be an act i don't think we've ever seen the read dave
He teased the fuck out of that hair! I'll wait! Lol
16:45 hits a little harder knowing Dave is retiring
You know you're right!
I'm sure you heard his retirement audio❓ His voice cracked when he spoke of "Eddie looking in the rearview mirror and not to worry because it will be ol' Dave."
I believe he's still in Las Vegas doing his show isn't he? He said all of his papers and doctors orders are inside his safe...his _handlers_ as he called them told him to take it easy or he would not make it (live) much longer.
That will be one very sad day for all that love VH and DLR❗❤❤❤❤❤
Early VH 🤘
Man, I havent smoked since 99. Damn I miss thee types of conversations.
