Thanks for the video. Another way to do it in Audacity or Better Audio Editor: 1- Change the sound driver to WASAPI (Left top corner of Audacity or Better Audio Editor) 2- Change the input driver to Speaker (High Definition Audio Device) 3- Select desired Mono or Stereo track (between Input & output options at the top) 4- Now its ready to record what ever audio you play on your PC
literally the best tutorial ive seen in my life. I've worked on cars and watched tutorials and they talk about random things happening in their lives. quick, simple and to the point. 100/10
So I see people can't get it to record, I think I found out why at least for me. If you are using a monitor with HDMI and it has speakers or speakers plugged into it for sound. Your PC is not using the back Audio out or Front Speaker jack (The Green one in the back) so I just plugged in a headset and made sure my sound was coming from there and it seemed to record fine. as far as I can tell HDMI Audio is not used in Stereo Mix only you PCs audio jacks. Hope this helps at least a few people
THank you! I spent all afternoon trying to find a software that will let me do this. I tried audacity, but didn't know about this. I also had to close and re open audacity for it to work. Thanks again
@@railroadseattle Have you got the correct speakers selected in audacity? the option is under the levels and under the little green play button on its own
Did all of the above & checked it twice (windows 10 64bit) but would not produce any recordable audio over in Audacity. Source playing the CD was windows media player. Should I be trying some other player?
This helped thanks. Beware though, this makes an echo sound, in a sense. if I go over 10% volume through windows volume manager, every output has echo sound. Make it 50%, and it makes super loud echo effect. Disabling it back helped. Already thought my speakers are broken
These are the basic instructions that have always been used with audacity, BUT... For some reason the audio is not being recorded by audacity. Tried to delete and re-install. That was an epic fail. All settings are correct. Checked them many times.
Are you sure your headset / speaker are connected to the Aux of your motherboard ? Stereo Mix is capturing the sound emmited by your Aux not by your usb or bluetooth devices.
it used to work without your help, then when I moved my PC somewhere else in the room, it just disabled. i tried doing all I can do but to no avail. until I searched up "how to record computer audio" this video came. it helped me out and went straight into the point!
If I check "Listen to this device" I hear a horrible echo and this is also recorded, so don't select that! I just restarted audacity and it showed stereo mix and it worked
Or just use Goldwave where it just works out of the box and you don't have to mess around with your system. Chances are that after you make these changes, you experience weird behavior in all your other programs. I can't believe how audacity is struggeling with this super plain basic function. I mean, that is the main purpose of this tool and it doesn't even get it right.
I have a problem , I use a wondows PC that is public. My macs at home. Is there a way of recording streams on audacity (as i have that on this PC) with changing the setting IN audacity, Not outside. I cant get into setting as its a pulic PC. So annoying? Thanks
@kornnichiwa "stereomix" is under the "Recording" tab (Second one to the right). make sure you are not accidentally looking in "Playback". I made this mistake myself.
This really needs to be that complicated? In 2023 there is still not a button ' Record computer sound' ? I'm really afraid of messing up windows settings for another program I'm recording with daw and mic input, I finally got that to work (i'm a nood when it comes to recording audio and have gone through a lot of frustration to get it to work properly 😂)

This actually worked better for me than the video, Thanks.
this didn't help me 😅
mine just broke... must do the thing from the video to work it out.
this comment should have more likes than the actual video. Helped me a lot 👍
This worked with a mod... I needed to select loop back from my Audient device
Perfect tutorial in 1 minute. Exactly what I needed. Thanks.
There´s no "Stereo mixer" in my PC sound devices.
Doesn't help that I don't have a "stereo mix" in my recording devices
you have to enable it in windows 10.
@@ihavetubes howù
You have to click in an empty space in the sounds tab and click show disabled devices or something like that
what if Stereo Mix does show up under Sound properties, but it does not show up under Audacity preferences ?
You might just need to restart Audacity. I know I had to.
@@dmennenoh thanks this worked!!
Does not work for some reason. I did everything exact and nothing's working. Can you help me out?

Still nothing is being recorded. The playback is a flatline that is silent.
If you don't see steriomix in audacity, then restart audacity first
I don't know if this happens to me or somebody else but
when I record the audio it starts to echo
I FOUND A FIX! If you can't use stereo mix in Audacity, use Microsoft Sound Mapper!
no

How to record pc audio:
1. Follow the steps in this video
2. "Look up another tutorial on how to do it"
Thanks.
Don't click listen to this device - leave it unclicked - that helped me get it to work.
That's what he said to do
i dont have a stereomix

Also restart after enabling "stereomix" that way it will show up as a device in Audacity.

in audacity, hit the transport tab, then choose rescan devices.

Has anyone had the Audacity to record streamed music through Serato using this method? Asking for a friend 🙃
I tried on virtual Dj and it sounded like crap.
how do you adjust the volume to avoid clipping? do you just turn down your speakers?
Why does it only work when my earbuds aren't connected?
Nothing happens when i right click on the sound icon
You left click it num nuts
Hello. I have used it and the audio doesnt have anny sound of the pc. Anny help please?
thanks you
Thank you very much for this clear advice.
'Listen to this device' is not an option in my settings as following tutorial.
my sound/microphone list doesnt show stereo mix when I click show devices
awful when I activate listen to this device some ugly pitch sound started and I had to deactivate it
so is it possible to record both the computer audio and a mic at the same time with this method
perfect, can I record my Podcast too?
thank you thank you so much ... is there a way to be able to record pc sound and mic together but from the PC not from the mic ?
