- WhichBike.com staff member, Ade, has a full ride on the forever popular YBR 125 from Yamaha. What is it that makes this bike so successful.
A special thanks to Woking Yamaha for the motorbike. They are just about to double their showroom size and if you are in the South East then pop along and ask for Bill or Steve.

I've ridden 2 older models and I've gotta say it's a bike made for everyone not just beginners, unless you have daily commutes that exceed 60mph frequently. I was also impressed by it's size. It's a long bike with a seat height on the taller side. Far larger than the MSX125 and more practical.
Agreed. These bikes are great value, easy to ride and superb for hop-on hop-off trips.
Ade
Had an '09. Extremely easy to ride from the off, so spot on for a new rider.
Reliable, smooth, comfortable and well made.
A little bit short on grunt and top end compared to some of its rivals though.
Yeah, all sounds about right.
What do You mean by grunt? Im thinking about becoming a biker after a lot of experience with cycling..
As a newbie to bikes it's a relief to know someone with so much experience still plays the hunting neutral game :D I'm here because I parked my Varadero 125 next to one of these this morning and it looked so tiny! I recognise those roads out past Brookwood, I might have to go for a ride there myself..
Ha. Ducatis ar worse.
Yeah, lovely twists but don't do what I do! If you watch the second episode of the show you will see what happened to me. Left the road and almost hit a large tree :(
Ade
they are a great bike, my youngest son has had one for two years, been to the Isle of man on it three times, utter reliable, takes some keeping up with through tight bends, good review.
+Peter Gunton
Hi Peter, it is one of a few bikes I would let my sons on. Great bike to learn on. Is he going to move up to a larger capacity? Will you let him :)
this is the bike ive got to learn on💯 cant wait to get a bigger bike
Take your time!!! What have you got now?
picked one up in February for £800 and it's a 2007 model with 10,000 miles on it. solid machine and really good fun
SOunds like a bargain to me!
@@RevMonkey fucking class to ride mate, needs new battery but kick start is a piece of piss. the fuel savings i'm getting to work and back are amazing!
Yeh I got one for 1k, 2008 and only 6k miles. Barely used over the years
My YBR has 31,508 MILES on it...Great runner...Regular oil changes, simple maintenance...last decades... Bullet proof engine... Perfect small bike with decent presence on the road.. 100mpg can't be bad either.!
This is the bike they use at driving schools in Singapore. I really enjoyed using it during lessons, and I'm considering getting one for my own. Thanks for the review!
Go for it!
@@RevMonkey it's been 6 years since this video, do you still have the bike? If yes, how is it holding up? Thanks for the reply!
Very good bike! really flexible in city traffic jam.this video made me buy it as a new driver (2 years ago) I never regret my choice.thanks man for your infos in this video!
That's great!!! Glad you like it. Have you still got it then? Are you sticking with it or getting something bigger at some point? What's your dream bike?
Ade
Yeah.its my only bike.someday i may get the honda cb500x...but my dream bike is ducati xdiavel 🏍️🏍️
@@dailyrider6330 Ha, a lot different! Diavel is pretty heavy but very cool. I saw one in white at the weekend - looked great.
I'm in my late 50s, have one of these and utterly love it..! Brilliantly agile, very forgiving, ultra frugal on fuel (100mpg) Still hits 70mph with a lump like me onboard.. 11/10
Yeah, it really is all the bike anybody really needs. So much fun. People, including me, get caught up in the need for speed, which is like a drug but much better to stay at a 125 level. Really is.
Ade
You are a great presentator and a great guy. Your videos are really informative and a blast to watch.
Keep up the great work! Thanks.
Ah, thanks man. Any requests?
+Which Bike Well i know you don't do scooters that much, so i think that would be a good suggestion I suppose. Perhaps a Yamaha Tricity or the Suzuki Burgman... Best to you man.
Apologies for the delay.
I did do the Tricity... ruclips.net/video/RM6VQqpWw4Q/видео.html
Burgman.... looks well comfy!
Thank you mate I’m buying this bike today
How did it go?
Ade
The problem with beginner bikes below 250cc, is that they're extremely expensive for what you can get on the used sport bike market to say something like a used SV650 for the same price. So, in the states, they just don't sell well.
Yes, indeed. Especially the mini-racing bikes like the R125, Aprilia, etc.
The 125 bikes are always costly as they are in such high demand for learners.
Yeah but in Europe you don't need a motorcycle license to drive them so if you don't speak the language in that country (like myself) It's nearly impossible to obtain a motorcycle license.
I always upgraded to my 250cc 🤔
@@Serrf Although this comment is 2 years old, most driving schools, atleast in my country, have English spoken classes for foreigners that want to live here permanently and don't want to apply for an International Permit.
In the UK and Europe you can ride a 125 without a full license. So demand is higher for them which pushes the price up. In contrast bikes over 125 have a barrier to entry (the full license which can be expensive and time consuming to get). So used prices are pushed lower.
my sister gave me her 2010 YBR , I'm going to use it for my 7 mile commute , its fun and lives with my Triumph Street twin in my garage :-)
I miss the round headlight on these I had an 09 model when I had my CBT, was good fun
+Bikers Quest
I know what you mean. Still I quite like the way they have done this small fly screen.
@@RevMonkey The fly screen is perfect to stick the L plates to.
@@tnetroP True! i have this a lot.

I'd love this motorcycle but of course, my parents would think it is too dangerous.
There is no doubt motorcycles are inherentky dangerous. One is travelling at fast speeds without the protection of a seatbelt and a huge metal cage!
I have to say, I would not like any of my 3 boys to take up motorcycling but as a parent, you never stop worrying.
The balance is fun and enjoying ones life. I am never more alive than when close to death recklessly riding a motorcycle fast. Then again, I am a poor rider with an addiction.
If you take the time to learn properly and dominate the road and dont get distracted then you will be fine.
Lol im getting one in 1 week 12bd latepresant me 11
you just gotta turn up with the bike
Had one of these (previous model) after passing my CBT, and decided to keep it for commuting (along with my 600) after passing my full test.
T'was perfect for this due to it's ridiculously low running costs e.g. nearly 100 MPG, even when constantly bouncing it off the limiter (as you have to do with most 125's). Had my Yibber for 2 years and still found it fun to ride - I'd thoroughly recommend one for anybody starting out.
Yamaha still do a good 0% finance deal on these too - £100 down payment, £65 a month for 3 years.
+JaffJaff
Yeah, thats a great payment for a cheap to own bike.
Like my scooter, it will always be a good bike to have to hand for certain types of urban riding.
I will get this as my first bike and your review made it easier for me not to be so nervous, plus you are funny dude
Ha, thanks. It is a great bike to start on and really good fun!
Ade
Cheers for the review! I'm seriously considering getting one of these for my first bike. I've got family not far from Woking so it might even be from the same shop!
Tell Steve or Bill you enjoyed their bike review by Ade on WhichBike.com !!
Tell them I said you get a free accessory - and then say 'only joking' but they mght sort you out.
Great bike to start with.. perfect.
You will learn a lot on it and then one day you will get something bigger and always remember this first important step. I should have gone this route myself but being older and still not wise, I rushed it..
Nice review. Great to see that you can still buy a real motorbike with real clocks a centre stand and even a rack to mount your topbox. Good old fashioned no nonsense motorcycling.
Yep, a dying breed of motorcycle. Tech is taking over.
Ade
This was a lovely video love your personality and super informative! I know its old but it put a proper smile on my face :)
Ha, thanks, I do try.
I need to get out more on these great little 125s.
Proper fun bikes.

I got one of those very good bike even for long rides likecthe time i road frome dorset to the north of Scotland's and back
All back roads or motorway?
Nice ride commentary on the bike. A female friend has just bought a YBR125 & I've sent her the link to watch :)
Thanks Geoff.
Superb bike to start on. Everyone should have one really to give even non-bike enthusiasts a chance to experience a motorcycle.

Hi, i am Aftab Khan
The same bike known as yamaha ybr 125 Launched in Pakistan early in this year.
Hey, great video! I was planning on getting one when I’m 17 as a commuter/fun ride. Would it be able to handle British weather all year round lol?
Sorry for the delay. Yes, for sure. You can even leave it outside and it will last 2 decades. Easy to ride so the power will not phase you in you in the wet.
Ade
Anyone else notice the neutral light on at around 7:04 whilst Ade was accelerating away from the lights (obviously in gear)?
+Isenhowitzer
Good spot!
Ha, it was probably my crap beginner riding style! :)
I wasn't trying to intimate that, haha, was just wondering whether the neutral light was a bit slow in catching up with the gear changes
Isenhowitzer
Yeah, not sure what that is. I never noticed it myself. I guess the most important thing is that it does show when you actually want it to be in neutral!
+Isenhowitzer ţ
False neutral.. happened to me before a couple times Ive done 7k miles on one
which is best Suzuki Van van 125cc or yamaha ybr 125cc?
I've placed a deposit on one of these in black. Pick up Monday after my CBT Saturday.
how is it? ill get one too
What do you think of it then?
Did you get one?
Hi,
I certainly did get it.. Absolutely love it. Only gripe I have with it is the time it takes to initiate an overtake, for a 125 though, can't really expect much more. I'll be looking in to heading up to a A2 license soon as I want more power, haha.. This is the review that topped me over the edge to making the plunge and I'm so thankful that I did.
Thanks.
Ah ha.. You have alluded to the biggest reason why people move up to a bigger bike.
Power has no equal. I would suggest a mid-engined naked, like a Street Tripple. Easy to ride and will take you on a good journey to bigger bikes or even sports bikes.
Just got a great deal on this bike! My first ever bike! Was only £600 because of my great negotiation skills
Sweet, how are you getting on?
That is a good ike i have 1 its is fun and i looked at one the other it had 66k km on it
My YBR has 31,508 MILES on it...Great runner...Regular oil changes, simple maintenance...last decades..
My ybr had 200k km and it was running fine i bought it for 400£
Nice review pal.
Thanks. was ages ago! Cool bikes.
My dad has one of those YBR 125 he has 3 of them like wow
he has one of those he has 3 of them. what is it that you dont understand?
That neutral light stayed on quite a long time at 7.03, when you were going through the junction and it still hadn't turned off, I think that could confuse and maybe panic a new rider by distracting them
Fair point.. a common issue apparently.
Good review Matt Lucas love the noises 😂
Ha :)
Ade
because u made this video, i'm going to get this bike. because it sounds awesome!!!!! thx
Glad to hear it.
Did you get one?
I just got a 2007 model as my first bike :)
Sweet, how are you getting on with it?
IT isn't delivered yet xD I'm taking it up to a parking lot in the weekend
Good idea. Get to grips with the low speed handling.
I got it today, and i didn't even go over 25mphh xD
ha, cool. You have to start somewhere and that sounds like a sensible speed to me!
Mate ive watched a few of your vids and the audio is muffled on all of them , you need to think about where you put your mic in your lid , also think about getting a better quality mic if your doing reviews .
+Simon Fly
Yeah, it does annoy me. I have a new helmet and mic. Sometimes it sounds okay and other times it is definitely not clear enough. I follow the usual guidelines.. I will just have to test it more on a long ride as maybe it is differnt for other people. Perhaps I have a tighter helmet, bigger cheeks, or something :) I will get to the bottom if it!
This bike is really good for me, especially sinse I am quite sort and have a bad back; also oh my fuck it's smoooth! 😏😏
great review i cant find one in my price range but im getting the honda cg 125 is it good for begginers?
I seem to be able to do 2nd to neutral but not first to neutral
It is not unusual that it is stiffer. Try some Lube on it or take into Yamaha.
Ade
My son has just bought used one he's unable to turn the headlight off it on all. The time during the day?
It is actually meant to always be on - every time you ride it to aid in visibility.
If it is staying on when the ignition key is out then that is of course a problem.
I only ride bikes with lights on all the time - especially during the day! It all helps.
Ade
@@RevMonkey oh right fair enough thanks for reply
As a returning rider, I will be going for a refresher course on one of these. I was fine with the video up to the point you started making silly noises and pretended you were having problems. I also got fed up with the long aside about the Yamaha bike route upward. In the end I gave up. This wasn't a very good review of the bike, more a medium for you showing off.
Yeah. perhaps, Not watched it myself for years. You may well ne right. I do know it is such a good little bike, like most 125s now. What I do now know is that it is all the bike anybody really needs to get around on short journeys. I should have stayed with a 125cc and I might then not have all this metal in me!
Hi , I’m getting a ybr 2012 model I’m not a new rider I’m actually down grading due to dept lolllll , but I had a Honda varadero v twin 125 that thing had some power behind it for a 125 could get 80 on it easy , but from wat Iv seen the ybr isn’t actually that bad even tho it’s not that powerful but I like the reviews about the reliability so that’s why I’ll be buying it ( good strong bike that’s all ya need to get from a to b )
Cool. Yeah, Vtwins have a truck load of torque. You can't go wrong with this bike. Developed well over the years. Great runaround as well.
Hi pal, what would you recommend as a long distance 125cc bike? (Uk)
It would never be as comfy or high tech as a modern, larger bike BUT it is still a very able bike, easy to ride and robust. If you are comfy on it then I see no reason for it to be a major problem. A roads and motorways will get a bit depressing as you will max out at about 65mph and you'll feel a bit vulnerable.
In an ideal world, you would be looking at a 600cc bike plus. The touring bikes are large capacity bikes for a reason.

@@xCLUNKx Eek. Have you only got a licence for a 125?
@@xCLUNKx Ah, this is the kinda the most substantial 125. www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-reviews/honda/xl125v-varadero/2001/
You could get a second hand one for cheap. That will do much better than any sports 125 or normal naked.
If you want a sports looking bike then any of the 125s with a hood will help, as you can duck down on motorways.

I know very little about Husqvanas but spookily enough I was at Ace Cafe and one pulled up next to me. It looked like it said 900 and it was pretty cool looking, more akin to the KTM look than other motorcycles.
It was Nuda 900.
iamandreja
Cool.
How are they for a 6 ft 3 rider?
Got my cbt soon, and I'm weighing up options😉
Well, at that height most 125s will feel small but it will still be okay. At least you will have great confidence stopping being able to easily put your feet down.
Have a sit on it and see if you feel comfortable.
Just done it on a honda cg. I think a ybr might be step up after that 🤣
@@andihaywood8401 Cool, Hope you passed!

I need to decide for my first bike
I would have said, take them all out and make notes but I believe it is very difficult these days to find dealers who will let people out on 125s,. I know I struggled last summer.
They are all much of a muchness. I would just sit on them all for overall comfort and reach/leg height and then go with the one that think is the best looking and will give you the best smile on your face.
@@RevMonkey oh well. Guess I will. Thanks
@@mattiaparisi1660 My advise is before you decide what bike to get, first think what type of rider you are? like sports, motocross, cruzer, street, adventure etc, then when you have decided of your riding style and needs, then decide on what bike is best for you :)
How tall are you? Does the bike fit you for your size? I am thinking about buying one of these to start of but the seller was worried about my height and me being to tall. I am 191cm (about 6,2)
5' 10"
You will appear slightly big for the bike but, to be fair, you will on any 125cc bike apart from a trials bike and these YBRs are so good you will be fine overall - just will likely take some getting used to.
Best thing to do is got out and test ride your favourite choices.
Can you please do a kawasaki ninja h2 ride and review
+Tinashe Albertson
I will call them!
Not entirely true that 125cc bikes are for beginners. I do find it a little annoying that people suggest that when in fact there are plenty of experienced riders use these bikes.
Ah yeah, for sure. You do not ever really need to get a bigger bike. The smaller and lighter the bike, the more fun you usually have, and in relative safety.
The point is more like that beginners should stay on 125s to at least learn how to ride.
Ade

Also this bike is 6.232 TL (Turkish Lira) which is about 2,100 dollars. Would this bike be too big for me and is it expensive for this bike? (Taxes are high in Turkey)

As always, just get the best looked after, serviced example with low miles you can afford to buy. I wouldn't be scared of high mileage. This is one of those bikes that has been engineered and evolved over a decade and they are mostly bullet proof.
Get the best one you can find. No worries.
They won't have a lot of miles as they are not long distance bikes anyway. Indeed, you are better off with a bike that has been used regularly than a bike that is stored away for long spells.

Is this any good for a 5’2 rider?
You will be on tip-toes at rest if you have your feet equally down but you will soon learn to drop one side down so you have a solid foot down.
You do get used to it. There maybe 125s that are lower - you would need to check the seat height stats for each.

Hi Bethany, I happily own a YBR 125, bought new a couple of months ago, and managed to just about squeeze £10 worth of regular into it when I had run really low one time..usually I'll get about £8 into it. I'm all about economy riding, so MPG is important to me. Scooters and 125's are crazy good, so I'd probably go for a 250-400cc max. Would you recommend this one or sym wolf 125?
Well, you can get the Wolf for £2199 at the moment so that is amazing value. However, if you can reach the price then the YBR or Honda CB are better long term buys and have some better safety tech. Any of these bikes are great though so, personally, I would likely go with the one I liked the look of most!

which one is better Honda GC 125 or Yamaha ybr 125?
Almost impossible to choose. Both such amazing global sucesses.
This really is a case of get a ride on both and go with the one that:
1. Is the best kept bike for your budget
2. Feels the best when you ride it
Does it have ABS?
No. Does not really need it due to it's lack of power, agility and lack of inertia given the light weight. I really wouildn;t worry about it, in this case. As bigs get more powerful and heavier, ABS becomes a standard fitment these days.

how about the 150cc yamaha
Well, this is all about neing withing the 125 restriction for the UK.
which country is this ?
+aprender turco
hi
It is in England, UK.
Specifically, this video was shot in St. Johns Village, near Woking, in the county of Surrey.
Surrey is probaby the most expensive county in the UK and has some nice areas.
basically just put the camera on your chin. like Baron von grumble.

Ha, I get people saying don't put it on your head, it makes me ill..
I will do both! Got 3 cams now.
It would be great if you could add the 3 views on the one video and RUclips let the user choose which view they want! Wow, what a great idea! haha

stupid little wheels bike slips out easily from underneath you when wet too dangerous for UK weather conditions
Ah, interesting point. Is that mostly due to low budget tyres on it rather than a handling issue?
There's nothing wrong with the width of the tyres. If you are slipping, then change the stock tyres for Michelin Pilot Street or Metzeler ME-22. I've never had even a twitch on either of those tyre brands.

That bike is good only on dry surfaces , when it's ranning DON'T RIDE, i took my first accident at stopping for a red light (speed =10 km/h). breaking with rear breake (drum brake= rear wheel) with shitty tyres . I was on the ground with my right collarbone broken. nice.
DRIVE SAFELY !
Eek, sorry to hear that. Good advice.
What tyres did it have on?
It is typical that budget bikes get budget tyres but that does sound a bit severe. Was it on a white stop letter or something?
i have the originary tyres, the sakuras. i saw many people who said they are dangerous and they have gum which is too hard. i was behind a car, fortunately i was respecting the safety distance. even if they are brand new i think i will change them.
kamifenrir
Yeah,. fair enough.
That's because you're a shit Rider, the YBR is one of the best bikes to ride in all weather.
+NovaScope +NovaScope i won't say that bike is not good i said that the tyres ( the sakura tyres )which yamaha is selling with the ybr are dangerous and i'm not the only one who is telling this. you can search on the web if you want.

This Review made me decide which bike I'll buy.. Thank you.
Great. You cannot really go wrong with any 125 that has been around for a while. it is in the interests of the manufacturers to ensure that your first bike is a good one to get you interested in the brand.
