How to Decorate Your Very First Planner Spread

- I've seen several people join the planner community, and then comment that they are afraid to decorate their first spread because they don't want to mess it up. So in this video, I am explaining how to decorate your first spread!
My biggest tips to new planners:
1) Jump in and try! You can always turn the page next week if you hate it.
2) Comparison is the thief of joy!
I have seen several videos on how to plan and how to get started, and you are by far the best one so far. You really explain why you do things and to make things looks good. I love that you take the time to tell us what stickers you like the most and why. So happy I found your channel. Thank you!

Who gives a thumbs down on a planning video? If you don't like someone's planning style just move on. This isn't politics or religion folks. I love Heather's style of planning.

Because we have that option therefore were free to express our selves.
I mean technically what you are saying could be applied to anything, if you don't like someones political point of view just move on, but the dislike button is important to youtube so that people can express not only their positive opinions but also their negative.
Sheereen Stefan That is why there is a “thumbs down” so that those who don’t like it can exercise their option to hit the button. Everyone is unique and do not have to like what YOU like. Get over it!

I recently bought my very first Happy Planner and I was SO excited to get started on it, but I had no idea where to begin. I should also mention that I’m a VERY indecisive person! I began searching for videos on how to decorate my Happy Planner, various methods of planning, etc. However, the videos I watched were either not helpful to me or not what I was looking for. Then I came across your channel and I couldn’t be happier!! I just wanted to let you know that you’ve helped me SO much with my new Happy Planner! You’ve answered so many questions that I had, you’ve explained what various stickers are used for and you’ve given me a lot of inspiration! You’re excellent at explaining things and providing great examples! I love your videos!! Again, I’m so happy I came across your RUclips channel!!
I know this video is older now but i just want to say thank you! I just ordered my first planner and I am a little stressed about it. I was never a planner person but now at 29 I am helping to take care of my mother who has developed some serious health issues. Obviously with that comes tons of appts and reminders to take meds etc, and she just has never been good at remembering stuff. Everyone says to just use my phone but I like having a physical copy I can hold and go back to. Long story short this has helped me feel like I can make a nice spread and enjoy doing this even if it is all new for me.
Oh how I wish I saw this 4 hours ago! I literally just bought my first Happy Planner from Michaels and I figured I didn't need the stickers, but I love the pages. But honey, I'm going back TOMORROW to get all the stickers!!!! This was therapy just watching you, so my bestie was right...I should've gotten them! 😩🤗😂
I didnt think I needed the stickers either. Off to Hobby Lobby to get them! It was so therapeutic watching this and looks so beautiful. I also found a set of vintage/flower stickers on Amazon. Getting those too!

I know a year later, but very new to planning/journaling... and overwhelmed. This was great. Got a few of the sticker books sometime ago and just starred at them. Know not rocket science but just never did or used anything like this and like you said, didn't know where to start. Thank you SO much Heather. This was awesome!!!

So beyond helpful. I’m a huge planner person. I love my planner. But today I bought my first happy planner and some sticker packs as well, and got beyond overwhelmed when trying to figure out how to decorate! I didn’t even know that was possible when using a planner. But now I have an idea and I’m excited!

Thank you. I'm so glad I stumbled across these planners today. I've been wanting to do a "bullet journal" for a while. I need more happiness in my life. I struggle with a bit of depression and am constantly pushing myself forward to achieve personal, professional, and fitness goals. I can't wait to see all the wonderful things I achieve in the coming year.
Comparison is the thief of joy! Sure needed this today for my stickers & photography. I do that all the time. Did my weekly last night & really dont like it 😢. I am blocked this week! I had a hard time. Im new to using stickers. I just discovered Kell of a Plan! I am a floral girl so ill be deciding on one when my disability goes through. You make beautiful books!!! AND thank you for that closing thought! I am trying not to compare but i always do. I’ll try!!! Great video for a starting person .. easy to follow for a newbie (like me!)

Finally, someone addressed the 3-boxes-per-day question that I've had! I've been into Discbound books for a number of years, and am only getting into the Happy Planner now, and the 3 boxes confused me. I didn't know if they were morning/afternoon/evening boxes, or what. I plan on designing my own spreads but wanted to really understand the functionality of the weeklies so I can make the most out of them. Thanks for the informative video!

I think this is one of my fav planner videos. So many people use so many stickers that I feel like I can’t even see the plans. And that’s fine if that works for someone but I’m really glad to find someone who still makes such a beautiful spread without totally covering the pages and still wants a box to be functional. I will definitely be using that tip to layer stickers to retain the functionality of a box and I love how you did the meal planning list!

I bought a planner, just a simple plain white notebook planner for 2021. So I thought of watching videos to see how other people do with their planner. Can't believe there's a planner community LOL and I love that everyone's being creative makes me want to add designs on mine. I decided to start using planner for 2021 cause I will be a full time artist 🥰 this video motivates me more thank you!

I’ve had a Happy planner for a while, but I can never keep up with the decorations. Instead, I have opted in becoming a sticker hoarder. I'm just turning the unmotivated stuck to self motivate and preserve prepare for college enrollment by July 15th! With your decorating suggestions inspiration will come wheen my planne has blocks carved out with my handwriting Lol your videos are always easy to understand , sI'mple suggestion focusing on how people see planners! Im highly visual. Weekly planning is my style however your simple introduction my adhd, perfectionism is pushed back. I can use my stickers that hit hard attenttion grabbing lol

Some channels just cover up so much and it becomes overwhelming and my calendar is written all over on. I have 8 children, 3 very young grandchildren, I also have a daycare so I need my planner. THANK U AGAIN!!
What should I do to reinforce the holes that attach the pages into the planner...washi tape??
Thank you for sharing this inspiration. I've never tried to plan with the stickers. My first Happy Planner was nothing but columns of written words---boring 🙄. Now I have to try to do this! My husband says I over plan and don't do, so I have to do stuff😆! Have fun 🤗💗!

Thanks for sharing this... Starting to decorate a planner spread is similar to staring at a blank white page (artwork/card/journal/etc.)... Although it's still difficult for me to "see" the functionality of a prepared layout working on a daily basis and getting to a finished layout, I appreciate the encouragement to just START and I will find my own style through practice. I used all those box stickers in my book too! I wish there was a book with just those stickers!
I love so many of your ideas. I live in my planners. This will be the first year I have a HP though and I hope to use only 2 planners. I am older now, but when all 6 kids were at home and adding in having the 6 foster kids, I had to make my own designs for many portions of my planners to fit that many kids. Then I also color coded each child because it was more efficient to just use dots of color instead of their full name, LOL. Thanks for inspiring me to get my planners filled with such fun things.

This video was helpful, because you used stickers in a way that is new to me and very inspirational. I think that for visual people, if a planner has a happy and positive look we would be more drawn to it and actually use it.

I have those two sticker books! I got them a couple years ago when I first started planning. I never could get the hang of it all so I just used the monthly layout for appointments. But the last couple weeks I have been so inspired to get back into it. I'm gonna get a personal Happy Planner next year but for now I'm planning in my undated Recollections personal planner that I already had. This is an awesome video!

New subscriber and closet Happy Planner fan! Before seeing this post two months ago, I never knew day planners were such a "thing!" Great! Another addiction to add to my love of colored pencils! I loved it! So pretty! I'm new in planners universe -first year. I feel I'm improving every time I take this pleasure moment to plan. And I'm finding my style. I think i am the recicle type person. Everything I see i try to create something new to my planner. In Brazil stickers are so expensive, so I use every single thing when i buy them. For example, when you take out the stickers, the border that stays, I cut, put over in a scrap paper, use double tape and use as a new sticker. P.s. Sorry about my English, hope you understand me! The hardest thing for me is where to start! The monthly ones are the hardest for me. I just stare at the pages like (ok what do we do??) LOL!!!
