Really great protest song. Those dang flags showed up SOOOOOooooo bad when when started the whole Afgan/Iraq fiasco, same BS getting it started, same 'flag decal' jingoism. Thank you John, forever Requiescat in pace.
John Prine once gave a pass to a driver who drove him four hours in the opposite direction of the show by mistake, despite warnings from other musicians that he may be going wrong way, etc. Prine just kept reading the paper. Never broke zen. That story is from another musician who witnessed the situation, and Prine's absurdly extremey mellow vibes.
There's a religious guy, to this very song said it's to late for you John Prine. And everyone ignored him. But im looking for him now, because i believe in Jesus Christ!! And i wanted to say, John Prine is in a good place!! He even sang, Jesus don't like killing no matter what the reasons for!! If you see his comment, let me know please. Thanks. 🙏🏼👍🏼❤️
IMO, Prine should have retired from touring in early 2000. Why that is, is because, if you continue touring in a lessened capacity, that's what ppl remember most when you are gone, what Prine is here, is a pathetic resemblance to what he was as a 1970's vigorous youngster with a bucket full of the best songs he would ever write. When you think of Hank Williams, Jim Morrison or Graham Parsons, you will only have a picture of their best self. Prine by hanging on, walking around in this heavily dilapidated body, way over weight, and considering he weirdly became more popular in his later years, many will barely know that he was something quite different when first exploding on the scene I know this is an unpopular view. I had a brother who wouldn't retire as a teacher, cause to him, his life would become meaningless. He was a highly renowned high school math and physics teacher. At 60 years old he was fighting brain cancer, but until the school demanded he retire, and they hated to do it, he kept hanging in there. Far better to keep all your dignity, and be available for interviews and the occasional home hootenanny than putting your lesser self out in the public eye like that And this, from a person who saw John Prine when many considered him close to God, in the early 1970's ruclips.net/video/pNTEbU-a9TE/видео.html
I don’t entirely disagree with you. For me i’ve been a Prime fan for years….not since the 70’s but I grew up on him and Roger miller in the 80’s and 90’s cause of my father. He love their wit. We would play pool and listen to his records. So for me to be able to see him live was very meaningful and emotional. Thing is probably much like your brother, my guess is, it comes down to work ethic, pride and love of the craft also possibly money. A lot of people in his generation you worked until you couldn’t. Also like you said it gives their life meaning. It defines them. Also they must love what they do. So it’s not work for them. Finally we don’t know how he managed his money. He liked to party in the 70s he had more than two wives. Probably a handful of kids. We don’t know if he had to tour to pay the bills. Either way. It was a little, sad. But he was completely coherent, telling stories and sounded good. I was so happy for the opportunity. But you are not off base. Thanks for the comment.

I like this song. The man tells the truth!
What a coincidence. Lol, love it!
Classic!
Dear dear John.
"Jesus don't like killing no matter what the reason's for" and John was not hateful. I know this is RUclips but don't dishonor Mr. Prine.

Absolutely gut wrenching.
