  • This was the most stressful travel day I've ever had.
The best hotel to stay at while visiting Efteling is The Efteling Hotel. It is a 3 min walk to The Efteling Park. It is charming fun and breakfast is included. It is located about 80 min from amsterdam. It is magical and wonderful. I can't recommend this enough.

Wow what a day! They say arrive two hours early for domestic and three hours early for international flights. But then no one there to check you in if you actually do that, lol. Happens all the time. Amanda is multi tasking so much and it’s no wonder a boo boo is made once in awhile, we all do it! Very happy you made it safely and with Miles, how could they think you’d leave him behind, yikes! Have a wonderful time - and thank you for including us, we’re all enjoying traveling with you!! 🤗

In the US yes, in Europe it's different since most countries are in the Schengen zone wich means no passport controls, it's usually 1,5-2h before fir flights within Schengen zone and 3h for international flights.

On the positive side, you burned some calories, reached your goal with ruthless determination, and had the foresight to arrive early. I have always called the business jets “puddle hoppers,” and with the rain, you fit the bill. I hope you had a lovely meal and got some rest. When you gave a talk on the last video, you said traveling will make memories, this one will be a story you'll be able to laugh about with your grandchildren.

We’ve all been there! More than 20 years ago, I booked tickets for a trip got to airport three hours early and they’d cancelled with no notice my hubby and sons ticket because they had the same name and thought they were duplicates. No email, no text. Then the flight was overbooked. We ended up on the next flight in first class. So it all worked out in the end. I love your channel. I started going to Disneyland because of you and a couple of other streamers. Your sincerity shines through. Love your family too. Thank you for your kind messages. I’m going in for surgery next week but your messages have really helped.

Chris - you are definitely NOT alone. Even pre-911 travel could be very stressful. I have many nightmare stories flying around the US - especially from the East Coast to the West Coast, where a weather-related delay/cancellation could completely scuttle your plans. But the worst one ever was when we were flying home from a Disney Cruise in the Mediterranean back in 2007. We docked in Barcelona, and had to get us and our luggage to the airport. The airport was beyond full of people - just getting our bags checked (huge bags - couldn’t carry on) took forever. Then the flight into Heathrow was delayed (tip #1 - never connect through Heathrow). Then we had to go through 2 security checkpoints - one for customs - and then we finally got toward our gate, but just missed our flight to Chicago. Then at the counter waited in a ridiculously long line, just to be told that there were no more flights that day - had to book one for tomorrow morning. Well, all the pent-up rage, frustration, and disbelief at how horribly this had gone started to boil over (I’m pretty sure I looked like Anger from “Inside Out”). Thankfully my wonderful wife was there and knows me so well -she pointed me to the other side of the room and said “sit down honey”. Then proceeded to work with a very nice agent to get our flights rebooked for the next day. And yes Miles, there was swearing (not proud of that). Once everything was booked I went up and apologized for my behavior to the agent - she couldn’t have been more gracious. Anyway we walked with our luggage a really long way to the local hotel, got dinner and put the day behind us. Got out the next morning and were home many hours later. Most important tip - travel with a spouse who can make friends with anybody, and who has grace under pressure. Just another reason to love her and appreciate her. Sorry this went so long - glad you all made it to France.

Back in the mid 70’s I was in Greece where I gave birth to my daughter. I was there with my husband who was in the military. We were told I didn’t need a visa. So when I departed with my 5 month old baby by myself, I was yelled at by the Greek authorities for not having a visa. I thought I was going to be detained. I had no way to call anyone anywhere for help. (70’s-no cell phones, no internet. Yes, I’m a dinosaur). Finally after a long lecture in Greek, he angrily let me board the plane to go home to the U.S. Whew!

Running down concourses and long lay overs are usual fair for me. I am glad you were there early or it might have been worse. It is not a teeny tiny plane unless the pilot has to get out and lower his seat so you can climb in (sedan style). Stay well. Follow Amanda’s instincts.

Hi Chris, Amanda & Miles. I am so glad you are having an amazing time. We had a airport flight disaster when we went to the US a couple of years ago. We were flying from Seattle to San Francisco after our Alaskan cruise. We had the cruise ship transfer our bags to the airport so we could explore Seattle longer. We arrived at airport 3hrs before flight & went to gate & waited for our flight. We kept waiting to see our flight come up on the gate board but it never came. My husband checked the main board & saw it had been moved to another gate & checkin was closing in 5 mins. We ran to other gate which was on the other side of the airport & missed the check in by 5 mins. Our luggage had gone to SFC without us. This is the first time we have ever missed a flight. We tried getting on another one but they said they could not get us to SFC until the next morning. We had a tour booked the next morning so needed to get there that day. They said they could get us on a flight to Oakland in an hour which is close to SFC so we took it. We arrived in Oakland then had to catch the train all the way around the bay to SFC airport to get our luggage. When we arrived at SFC airport they said they would have transferred our luggage for free to our hotel. Wish we had known that before we caught the train all they way there. We arrived at our hotel a bit later than expected. That was our first time missing a flight & luckily our only disaster so far. Enjoy the rest of your holidays & I can't wait for the rest of your videos. Love Cathy Koala Cat.

The only flight problems I've ever had is involuntary bumps. Flights are always overbooked. Then if one plane breaks and they have to use an alternate plane that is not as big, people get bumped off. Flying is very very stressful even if you do everything right

I once booked flights for myself and my boss to fly across the state for a meeting and back the same day (a Friday in February, on a non-leap year). We got there just fine, but when we went to the airport to fly home, we discovered that when I had booked the flight, the return flight ended up being for the same date & day of the week...the next MONTH! They couldn't get us on a flight that evening, so we ended up renting a car and driving 6 1/2 hours back home. Things happen, Amanda. It all worked out in the end, and you are amazing!

I have too many flight stories to type, so I'll just mention the time I was flying from Kiev to Denver through Paris. In Kiev they said that Paris would give me the next legs boarding pass, land in Paris only to be stopped by passport control needing proof I have a connecting flight. With barely any battery left on my phone I was lucky enough to have a copy of my itinerary to show them and get through.

My first international flight ever was San Francisco to Delhi (to then connect to another flight). I thought the airline would forward my bags to the next plane, of course I completely missed that I was supposed to claim them and take them to my next flight myself. It took an act of the Indian army to walk me backwards through security so I could find my bags. They were extremely helpful and friendly, but there was a lot of paperwork and signatures... I was so embarrassed. All becomes part of the fun stories later.

1981: this fresh from boot camp Private arrives at LAX on New Years Day. We were told the USO had a free shuttle to Camp Pendleton. Only to find out it didn't run on holidays (duh). Cost over a hundred dollars to get a cab. I was a nervous wreck and swore I would research every little thing from there on. It happens, glad to see you keep your composure when life throws lemons right at your head.

That getting to the airport a couple of hours beforehnd often makes getting trains in Europe easier. The actual travel by train might take longer but once you add the 1 or 2 hours before a flight, plus travel time to the airport (most train stations are centrally located and easy to get to), trains often dont take that much longer than a flight. Plus you get to see the countryside rather thsn one airport terminal and then another airport terminal.

The night before they were set to leave at 5:45AM, I get an email saying the flight was cancelled. Oh my what a travel day! A few years ago, I booked a flight for my daughter from her home to S.F. to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The play was only showing in 2 US cities that year, SF and NYC. It was late at night when I booked the ticket. When she got there, we realized her return day was for the following week! I got on the phone and was able to change the flight day, but she had to go out of another airport. So we got up the day she left, drove across the bay to Oakland and off she flew home and we had to drive 8 hr to our home. Word of advice to all, be fully awake and alert before booking a trip or better yet, use a travel agent! Good luck on the rest of your trip.

But there’s a place in the city center for tourist who need day of lodging, so we headed there. I was actually falling asleep standing in line! But, the clerk, so kind to us, manage a night at the Bilderbirge (sp?) one of the most expensive hotels. About $50! Hotels there sell their no-show rooms for cheap cuz they want any money over no money. This was before Uber or Lyft too so we walked everywhere that day!!But now it’s a good memory of travel😊💙

For future reference, the train between Amsterdam and Strasbourg is only 6 hours. If you calculate the time to get to the airport, how long you have to wait to get on the plane, the flight, security, and getting back into town from the airport on the other end . . . . it might have been faster, cheaper, less stressful, and more scenic to take the train. Next time - sorry you had a rough time. But there are many many ways to get around in such a small space as Western Europe. Good luck! Hugs! (psst - use Rome2Rio to help plan - not buy tickets - just help plan)

Once I booked a flight from Bali to Singapore. Like you guys I was early and I noticed on the board that my flight was not on it. I did not think much about it at the moment. Long story short, i found out why my flight was not on the board. I booked my flight for one month earlier then intended. And when I found out I had about one hour to book a new one and go through customs and security. Now I laugh about it.
Enjoy the rest of your trip!

My family and I went to Rulantica last summer. It's the most incredible waterpark we've ever been to. We stayed so late we kinda sorta got stranded there. Too long of a story to write here but eventually (2-3 hours later) we finally made it back to where we were staying. One of those stressful yet memorable travel stories 😊

Hotel tours; make sure you visit all 6 of them. The hotels are sometimes better than the Disney hotels. And in Bell Rock hotel there’s a Michelin Star restaurant.

IF you are ever in Hawaii, and you have to catch your plane. Take the way your supposed to take. My husband at the time wanted to take the other scenic route around Oahu to get to our plane. It looks shorter on the map but is NOT. We literally almost missed our flight. It took us soooooo much longer that way. So stay on the touristy route and listen to your travel agent.

The very first flight I took was delayed so I missed the connecting flight! It felt like the worst thing in the world because I had never flown before and didn't know what to do! The staff at the airport were so kind and helped me book a new flight! It all worked out in the end just like with you guys 😂

You definitely have a good story for travel days! We bought a last minute flight from SLC to LAX because my dad was having emergency surgery and we had every imaginable delay possible and when it came down to it, we were waiting for this flight (not calling any particular airline out. AA but that’s the last time we flew with them!) longer than it would’ve taken us to drive to California SMH! Then another when we went to Scotland last year our nephew booked everything and intentionally booked us on a next day flight from Edinburgh to Dublin with a layover OVER 12 hours for $$$ saving, not so bad maybe when you’re 30 but we had my 75 yo mom with us and we slept in the Starbucks because the airport actually closes!! TGIStarbucks ♥️♥️♥️ live watching your adventures!

Love your bright green suitcase, I bought one just like it years back because it was a relatively uncommon colour. Always east to spot in a sea of black/grey/silver/blue/red cases and much harder for someone to take by accident.

I made the almost exact mistake on a recent holiday! I misspelt my mum's name and we only realized when the lady at check in pointed it out. At that point everyon else already went through and had to stay at the other side of security check. Luckily I was bringing up the rear so I could run around to sort it out. (My mum is not used to travelling.)(And because of that I did everything for her). Moral of the story is to always have the person themself check their own personal information beforehand. Also always sandwich those that might need assistance between others.

Wow that was quite a stressful experience you guys had! One day you’ll look back on this and laugh! But you are definitely not the only ones who have made travel mistakes. When I lived in Washington state, my sister was staying with me for the summer. We were both flying back to Utah to spend the 4th of July with our parents. Our dad booked the tickets for us but he booked them Utah to Washington instead of Washington to Utah. He sent me the itinerary and I had to call him and tell him he booked the tickets the wrong direction. We got it fixed and made it home for the holiday! It was a bit stressful at the time but now it’s a funny story to tell! 😂😂

Amanda, Chris and Miles, you all are so amazing. In as much as I know I will never be able to travel to Europe myself, (lack of funds), I graciously thank you from my heart and soul for letting me in on your awesome journey. For young Mr Miles, you don't have to be shy around the camera, we love seeing your smile and hearing your opinion as much as your dads. Chris and Amanda, your doing a great job raising such a polite young man, kudos. I hope your stay at Europa was as great as it looked. Can't wait to see where we go next. Much love and appreciation.❤❤❤

I planned an amazing trip to an all inclusive resort in Mexico to celebrate my daughter’s high school graduation. We are at the airport checking in for our flight with my husband (who is not my daughter’s father) my daughter and her best girlfriend. My daughter is 17 and 8 months old. She cant fly with us unless we have permission from her Father!!! Panic city. Her friend was 18, no problem. They finally agreed to accept a telephone call authorization from her father. Almost missed the plane to Mexico. I felt your pain.

That sounds stressful, but you're going to have a great time at Europapark. I just have a little tip for you.
I know you want to see as much of Europapark as possible, but please take your time to sit down, find some of the quiet areas and just take in the atmosphere. They have some great outdoor seating areas, a beer garden, great service restaurants. Enjoy those because those are really what makes Europapark special. They have so many rides that you probably don't have the time to do all of them anyways. I'd say Piraten in Batavia, Blue Fire, Wodan, Voltron, Arthur and Voletarium are the biggest most impressive rides at the park. You should also really discover the other hotels. If you stay at a Europapark Hotel you can also enter the spa areas of other hotels. You can discover all the great bars and restaurants in the hotels. It's really a great holiday destination. You can go for fish and chips in the bar at the Kronasar hotel, use the free bus to go to hotel Colosseo and eat some Italian ice cream for example. It's great to explore those areas aswell.
I hope that helps. Have fun there! Rulantica is also awesome! They have bars inside the pools!

When we flew to Amsterdam I forgot it was an overnight flight and booked our rental car for the same day as our flight. So when we landed the rental car place was like you’re a day late!

That was scary. Once we were in Germany coming back to America and the shuttle driver got late but we still got early to the airport. But then there was a safety issue with the group before us and they closed the check in counter for more than 1h. When they cleared it out, they already sold one of our tickets and we were literally standing on the plane without a sit until they convinced some people to take another plane and found us seats, all scattered but we made it.

We've been there! We were in Paris about to fly home to the US and the airline said they couldn't take our son because the name on his passport did not match the name on the ticket. Our last name starts with "Mc", and I hadn't even noticed that there was a space between "Mc" and the rest of the name in his passport. His ticket did not have that space. That was enough for them to say he can't fly home on this ticket and they'd have to reissue it. It also took FOREVER to reissue the ticket, and just like you, we barely made the cutoff for check-in and then had to run to our gate at Charles de Gaulle (a massive airport). My son's car seat didn't make it on the plane because of that and only arrived home a day later, but at that point we didn't care and we were just glad we made the flight. It happens to the best of us!!!

Booked a flight from London to Plymouth, a short trip in the UK on one of the super cheap airlines. Then I had us taken to the wrong darn airport. It was a situation where it was fine, I ended up rending a car and driving, and because of that the family got to stop at Stonehenge. But it does happen, glad the flight worked out!

I had to run through Heathrow London airport with my 6-year-old daughter because we didn't know we had to go recheck our bags from Germany and recheck in. We were stuck in a massive customs line to get rechecked. We made it but talk about stressful!

I had the same thing happen to me. I was tired and made a typo and put a space and X after my name. got into a 20 minute "discussion" about "my mistake". Lady at the check-in was a hardass but i smoothed things over. Luckily just like you i always get there early. This was from Berlin to Athens.
We had a plane break down while they were checking in the luggage. ( plane was getting checked out already for another issue) but the luggage people forgot to remove a whole swath of suitcases. So i went to Singapore for a special financial conference ( where i had to give a wide range or lectures) but my suitcase went to: Brasil, Florida, Brussels, and then finally arrived in Singapore, ready to be collected and put on another plane because then it was off to Taiwan. I always have a spare business suit on hand but i was a bit irked so i went on a shopping splurge. Bought 5 extra business suits and a new suitcase.
One time the gate broke down in Heathrow right before boarding. the people on the plane couldn't deplane we we couldn't get on it. So they did the Cadillac treatment where a fancy plane get taxied to another gate ( on the other side of Heathrow) and we had to literally RUN all that way. 200+ people running from one end of the Heathrow to the other. I was the first to arrive at the gate and informed we had to run from one side of Heathrow to the other. They took off with 1.5 hours delay.

Wow crazy day. Glad it all worked out. I never have made a flight error (I do not fly often). However, many years ago my mom took us to Hawaii. It was our family (4 people) and my parents and brother. So a total of 7 people. At the time you could only book a max of 6 people in your party on Travelocity (2003). And I booked the three of them, and then the 4 of us. And we all flew to Hawaii, got our rental cars and then went to the hotel. It wasn't until we checked in to the hotel that we realized I booked our party of 4 for 1 extra day. We were not able to change our trip to leave on the same day as my mom so we were "stranded" in Hawaii for an extra day. And had to tell our work that we were stuck in Hawaii. LOL
