I am not in the dumpster business, I am in the landscaping business but great points on business in general. Many don’t think this way and that is the issue.
You are so right about the undercut leaving money on the table! Let’s say you and your Competition each does 300 box’s in one year and he is 100 dollars lower than your price that’s 30,000 he left on the table in one year
Hey man, so you seem to be the most informative of anything or anyone that I have watched. with that being said I am about to get into the dumpster business so im just going through as many resources as i can to assure myself that I am somewhat prepared from day 1. Can you tell me how you come up with your price per ton? Is that based off what the waste fee is at landfill or what?
So 100% true about the no insurance free work. Its in the logistics business also guys running without the proper insurance they don't last. They still have an employee mindset then they ask themselves how they go broke when there equipment is also depreciating over time hrs/miles. Funny part is I still make more than those undercuts. SMH wishing yall the best.
My landfill don't charge. The big guys charge 150 to 200 per dumpster 3 days. It's cheap. Also landfill doesn't charge for brush. I own a tree service. I go 2 or 3 x a day.
Another great video Justin. You got to be kidding me I have to replace my equipment when it wears out, but I paid cash for it. It's never going to wear out. I see that crap all the time. The reality of is that you better be putting 10-15 grand a year away per year if you want to pay cash for a replacement truc
So this video is 2 years old and ya mentioned that you increased the rate to $400 . Well today’s December 17 , 2024 and how much is your 15 yard dump fee ? I have a 20’x6 x4 landscaping trailer w steel expanded metal walls & it’s not a dump trailer but I’d like to see what ya think would be a reasonable and profitable rate to charge ? I live in San Antonio and I also own my Duramax truck and the trailer.
I’m just getting started out here in Northern California and for me to make money with my 4 dumpsters I have to start at $375 for the 13-14 yard and $400 for my 17yard. At 2 tons per rent based on a 3 day rent
@@Lifes_Apprenticedo you have any recommendations on writing out the rental agreement/contract? Would you be ok emailing yours to me for a guide to write mine?
@@Lifes_Apprentice how do you go about ensuring the customer is responsible if they try sneaking in material that they are not allowed to dump? And charging them appropriately for those extra cost
At what point are you planning on selling the company? I’m paying 430 for a 15 in NJ, it’s not the cheapest around but the service is great and I get a 21 day rental.
I will sell when i think the business and myself are ready. Most likely if you sell a legitimate business you will have to sign a non compete form so selling means getting completely out! This business has room to run for me
Great videos just had a question. When someone rents out a 15 yd for 7 days and lets say they fill it up on day 3. You pick it up and dump it asap? Do they get to keep the dumpster for the remainder of days? If so how do you charge for additional dumps?
Wait… wait… wait… You’re telling me you’re only making $100-$200/day? That doesn’t make sense. Why would anyone want to make less than $1,000/ day as an owner? I’m so confused…. You would have to scale your business significantly to make it worth while.
This video was an example to people who think you can get rich quick in this business. This business is all about scale to a certain point. In order to make decent money you have to be doing 500+ dumpsters a year Ideally more than that
Taxes were not figured in the making of this video because everyone is going to vary alot on the tax side. I am also not figuring depreciation so that is how I explained it but you are right. I was trying to make it easy to understand
I do not know your exact situation...BUT our dump fees that are included in our rentals do not exceed 20% of cost of dumpster. one way you can increase profit is to only include 1 ton or something like that... your dump fees are eating your profits for sure
Pay payroll taxes each week have accountant do quarterly tax reports spare money for people that won’t pay the rent there are a lot of them bad economy dump in the owners yard to get containers-- law suit IRS laws to comply with also good luck
You always hear business owner talk about how bad it is and you have to pay for this and that its not that but yet there still in buiness doing the same thing no one will stay in buisness if your not making money. It how bad you want it to make it. I've have spoke with so many buinsess owners and they say they have no money and there building new homes driving 100k cars around nope there doing just fine just want to complain about stuff. Point being people won't stay working for free in there buiness if they ain't bringing in money they will walk find something new.
The key to this business is scale! I agree with you though and I am guilty of making the same claims... I live below my means however and that is what it takes to make it through the tough times
Well if you paying 200 dollars per ton. You can't give 2 tons of Disposal included. And make any money. Especially if most companies are only charging 100 to 125 more. If you charge 400 dollars 1 ton 10yd or 15yd included and pay 200 per ton. But other companies charge 500 to 525 for 2 tons Disposal included on a 15yd Dumpster Because they only get charged 125 per ton.. instead of 200 dollars per ton. How's that work.
If your dump fees are 200/ton you cannot include 2 tons without a higher price. the other companies have alot of data that allow them to know there costs. we pay the same amount per ton as the big guys in my area as far as i know but i am sure in certain scenarios they pay less...hell, the big guys or shell companies own most of the landfills so it is easy
@@Lifes_Apprentice yeah you'd have to add 200 dollars more to the cost for the 2 tons. Which would be 600 dollars for 2 tons included. And if other companies are charging 500 525 for 2 tons. No one will want to pay 75 to 100 dollars more for your services.
@@Adam-qt6qq you have to figure out how YOU can make a profit and target those customers the majority of my customers do 1 and a half tons. average wieght over 1000s of cans so 2 tons isnt that scary if you run the numbers like the big guys do
You will have to raise your prices. You are not the only one dealing with the price increase I would immagine. you either raise prices or make less profit
This is why you have to raise prices every year . Keep up with business costs and stay ahead of inflation . Leaving money on the table is so right I wish people would understand that . I think like you said the dumpster business is scale . The more you have the more you make per dumpster profit wise .

I buy roll-off trailers from nedland industries. I also have my dumpsters made by them. There is alot of used equiptment for roll offs for sale online
