I have been asked to offer a “trailer rental” where the customer picks it up themselves but my insurance doesn’t cover it. When I was doing this on a smaller level an office and large yard space were not necessary. I would suggest a hooklift from the get go only if you have the financial means to do so.....hard to beat a trailer you can hook to your daily driver and with just a couple dumpsters revenue enough to cover the truck payment and all business expenses so you can keep your main jobs income all in your pocket or re-invest into growing the business faster like I did.

A little less than that profit wise and it depends on # of employees, wages, insurance levels, equipment cost/ cash or debt basis rent is relatively small and doesn’t fluctuate much compared to all of the other expenses. In my opinion off of $400k you the owner should be able to take between $95-120k salary and still keep cash in retained earnings for the future

I like it for starting out because it’s brand new equipment for the price of worn out used large trucks like you mentioned. If you’re a hungry entrepreneur and know how to brand a business you can do it, Anybody can , 1,000 rentals now that’s a stretch but a couple hundred in 365 days is not.
Wow, your insurance is cheap. Best quote I've gotten so far is around $4300 a year if I stay within a 50 mile radius for a dump trailer business hauling dirt, gravel, mulch or trash. To haul boats/RVs within 500 miles would cost over $12k a year if I paid it all at once.
I was just looking at my insurance bill for my F350 DRW and it's over $1600 a year for personal use and that's with a multicar discount and clean driving record with over 35 years experience. Who do you have for insurance?
How much does it weight at maximum capacity I'm not sure if I have to take f250 or f350 I will have a spacecab in the bed of the truck weight approximately 2000lbs.
Great video.. a couple of questions.. the dumpsters are how big as far as cubic yards? You say $65 to dump..is that fee based on volume or weight? I believe where i am located it is $11/yard but I am checking. For a 15 yard dumpster that could be like $160 of the $325 plus fuel and other expenses. Not very profitable for two trips and time I spend. Also.. I didnt see cost of a trailer and related items to haul the dumpsters. Maybe it would be better to get a dump trailer instead of a dumpster? thanks
Everyone that I know of offers two tons in their agreement around here. And we all offer about the same price that you are mentioning. It means our profits are much lower than what you are getting. I feel kind of stuck in that. Would you Veer off your market? If it was you?
I don't quite get the insurance costs. Are you saying that your total cost to insure the new truck with full coverage insurance and insure the dumpsters and trailer against theft and also carry contractors/business insurance for a rolloff business for $1800/year? Seriously ?
I’m wondering if the roll off trailer can be used to move storage sheds? I had a shed moved several years ago and it seems like the guy’s trailer looked a lot like the ones for roll off dumpsters.

Is your business vehicle insurance really that cheap in New York? In Indiana it’s double what you have on your video for truck and trailer. Also my truck is 20 years old but has full coverage.
Typically 1 - 4 tons depending on the type of debris we are hauling. We don’t haul full loads of dirt or concrete though just small loads of those items
Marketing - word of mouth, Facebook business page, Instagram all free to anyone willing to put the time in. Office costs were not existing when I started which is clearly stated in the video why some people without their own land might not be able to start up this way. Thanks for sharing
Every market tends to have different dump fees. Your pricing model would change based on costs but if you account for all of the basics such as fuel, dump fees, insurance, truck expenses and other overhead the business model works many places.

@@tinysparky I was going to buy from the equipment from Texas Pride in Madisonville TX but it’s looking like im going to end up buying a business. I ran into a guy that has a trailer and 10 dumpsters and wants to sell his business. Where are you from?
I was wondering if that roll off trailer is the same type they used to move storage sheds ? I had a shed moved from one property to another a few years ago and the trailer the guy used looked very much like the ones used for roll off dumpsters.
I haven’t seen one of this time move a shed but I’m sure you could modify it to do so
I'm paying $1000 for my truck. I needed a truck as a superintendent but now I'm an estimator and never need one. I have been thinking about doing something similar. I have a a 2021 powerstroke long bed double cab
Just curious how you go about charge a customer if they dont know how much it weighs until after you've already picked it up and dump it
We use a charge card on file system!
Do you think I could get by with a 1500 truck just starting out and considering starting with 1 dumpster
I would recommend a 3/4 ton (2500) to start. It will be safer towing especially when loaded and would be much easier to expand with if interest for your service grew fast.
How many days are each dumpster being kept per customer for $325?
How do you determine when the market is too saturated to enter into with a rolloff business?
IF you got a rolloff dump and truck and need $ you just lazy, as far as business everything take time but i dont see how u can fail
to sell 250+ rentals a year with no marketing budget is impressive! when i started the cheapest i could get insurance (commercial full coverage and business liability) cost 5000 a year
Word of mouth and some free Fbook posts is all I used to start out. And yeah now I’m at $6300/yr but with 3 trucks, 3 trailers and 7 dumpsters covered.
@@lakechamplainsanitation you think someone could sell 250+ rentals a year that way?
@@Lifes_Apprentice yes, I also have a decent sized residential hauling weekly pickup business so if someone had the same thing they definitely could.
@@lakechamplainsanitation i dont think this is realistic for a new startup. sorry.... i love your channel and watch all of your videos but giving people false hope potentially is not right. thanks for not deleting my comments and i am not commenting to be an asshole, even if it seems that way. i just feel it can be misleading. having an existing customer base gives you a leg up on someone new. if you have ever watched my videos you know i despise misleading content. not saying this is because it is possible but very unlikely
@@Lifes_Apprentice I disagree entirely, I barely pushed and sold over 300 rentals last year doing everything by myself including book work, marketing, phone calls and servicing my at the time 450 customer account base and only had 4-5 dumpsters all summer. I’d say 40 of my rentals were to existing customers the rest were 1st timers. If you’re a hungry entrepreneur and know how to brand a business you can do it, Anybody can , 1,000 rentals now that’s a stretch but a couple hundred in 365 days is not.
awesome video man.any podcast that you listen to that you can recommend ?
I’ve been listening to “the contractor fight” right now. Very good info about the service based industry
Nice video brother
How do your prices compare to bigger companies? Is there much competition with big companies in your area?
Very comparable nowadays. It was lower when we started out
Do you use a tracking or routing software or some other method to dispatch? Also do you collect credit card info up front before container is dropped?
We do get the card info and use QuickBooks for billing but we don’t have a route software I do all dispatch myself still
Those numbers that you put in on the board for the 5 dumpsters what sized are the 5 dumpsters?
Those were about 15yd
How much does it weight at maximum capacity I'm not sure if I have to take f250 or f350 I will have a spacecab in the bed of the truck weight approximately 2000lbs.
how much did you spend overall on advetisement with adds and newspapers.
Maybe it would be better to get a dump trailer instead of a dumpster? thanks
You would need to look at what your competitors are charging. And price accordingly.
Everyone that I know of offers two tons in their agreement around here. And we all offer about the same price that you are mentioning. It means our profits are much lower than what you are getting.
I feel kind of stuck in that. Would you Veer off your market? If it was you?
Thanks for sharing with us the numbers .
How did you drop them in the beginning when you were still working FT?
Can you convert those f
dumpsters to hooklift in the future??
I don't quite get the insurance costs. Are you saying that your total cost to insure the new truck with full coverage insurance and insure the dumpsters and trailer against theft and also carry contractors/business insurance for a rolloff business for $1800/year? Seriously ?
Yes. It will go up as you grow. I’m now at $6,300/yr
Insurance is now usually $1100-1400 a month.
Where my I find the website you used to purchase your roll off and trailer roll off
We used a local PJ dealer
I’m wondering if the roll off trailer can be used to move storage sheds? I had a shed moved several years ago and it seems like the guy’s trailer looked a lot like the ones for roll off dumpsters.
Can u do a dumpster vs dump trailer with this exact lay out coat vs coat
Dump trailers 7x14 like the dumpsters would be between $8,000-$10,000 each. So $40-50k in trailers plus the truck would be an estimate
@@lakechamplainsanitation that's the route i have ben going so far buying used fixing my own stuff as it brakes (ben lucky so far) thanks for making this videos
Do you have to have a CDL permit to do this?
Nope not for this setup
Hi there i have friend selling a dumpster business he has 6 dumpsters and 2 trucks he has been in business for 9 years and dominates the market here nit many competirors....is this a good price 250k....he has a ram and a ford 250,. 14 yard dumpsters 3 day drop off....
It’s hard to evaluate value of clients in the roll off business in my opinion unless he has a lot of recurring contracts that pay consistently. As for the equipment I would think you could buy 6 dumpsters, 2 trailers and 2 pick up trucks (250 or 2500) for $250k or less brand new still in this market just my thoughts
@@lakechamplainsanitation his phones ring everyday and he said most of the time he cant keep up with work,....lik i said he is the only guy pretty much doing this
Recommendable place to get dumpsters from?
I would call some local dealers in your market! PJ , Nedlands, Cam-Concept and Maxx D are a few different options
You didnt factor in taxes so its maybe around 35k a year net??
Iam in Canada where should I buy all the equipment, Truck and Dumpster ? Thanks
What trailer brand do you use?
We used to use PJ now we have a regular Brimar trailer
Hey man, how do you charge if you have to make more than one trip to landfill for same client? Thanks
We typically just double the cost unless it’s over 3 loads then we will do a slight discount if we know in advance it will be a multiple dumpster job
@@lakechamplainsanitation Thanks, appreciate you taking the time to answer.
Thanks for your video .
🙌
Another great video! Thank you
Real cool vid. Thnx bro
Is your business vehicle insurance really that cheap in New York? In Indiana it’s double what you have on your video for truck and trailer. Also my truck is 20 years old but has full coverage.
Not anymore, when I did it part time with way less equipment it was
@@lakechamplainsanitation I do it part time with a truck and trailer. My insurance is $1800 every 6 months for a million dollar policy.
Where did you get your dumpsters and roll off trailer?
I went to a local PJ trailer dealer
Who do you use for insurance
how much does the smaller dumpster in the video weigh once it's full?
Typically 1 - 4 tons depending on the type of debris we are hauling. We don’t haul full loads of dirt or concrete though just small loads of those items
Where is a good place to buy a dump trailer?
Do you think that fuel cost will compensate for total fuel costs?
I think your missing some items. What are the office costs? Marketing ? WroiIadding
Marketing - word of mouth, Facebook business page, Instagram all free to anyone willing to put the time in. Office costs were not existing when I started which is clearly stated in the video why some people without their own land might not be able to start up this way. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for sharing 🙏🙏🙏
Rentals for 1 day, compared to 7 days is a HUGE difference. Indicating your numbers are wrong.
How much would the revenue be nowadays ????
I wish those prices/cost were the same now in 24’ 😂
Very nice sir. Thank you
Thank you!
where do you dump it though? like what is the place called?
A landfill
How do you empty the rolloff at the landfill?
Dump it
What about taxes for the revenue you report?
Good question it will depend on net
Where do you buy the bins from
Hello. Can you help me to make my own setup. I wanna but trailer and truck and container dumpster
So if you had to do it all over again would you go straight to hooklift?
If I could buy a decent used one then probably yes
Would you still do this if your dump fee was $160 per ton?
Every market tends to have different dump fees. Your pricing model would change based on costs but if you account for all of the basics such as fuel, dump fees, insurance, truck expenses and other overhead the business model works many places.
