I was waiting to see Elmo or Big Bird getting stuffed into a hydraulic press.
In the mid 1950’s there was a testing lab at the University of Illinois where they would test railroad wheel designs,,,,,,,,,until destruction. That’s right. They spun them faster and faster until they exploded. And what a noise! Even with all the safety you could still hear when one finally blew. Amazing.
Used to rebuild loco axles looking back i never thought about this type of large scale production.the presses and machinery is amazing
Wow! You can really be proud of having such a modern railway system.
I'm glad to see a minimum of humans working around that stuff. Between the heat and the weight there's a lot of potential for injury if something ever goes wrong.

Man , I used to work in a machine shop turning drums & rotors for passenger cars and light trucks , I can't fathom turning a railroad wheel !
I used to work on a melt shop in the 80's that we made steel for railroad wheels.. Finally closed the plant yrs later.. Thats what WE need to do, work on infrastructure to CREATE good paying jobs like THIS!

У нас в Москве был аналогичный завод Люблинский летейно механический завод.Но 14 лет назад чиновники сказали что в Москве он не нужен.И вместо завода построили жилой комплекс.От завода осталось колёсная тележка памятник заводу

i want train parts for my garden i live right next to train tracks. all rusted out wheels with axle would be cool looking.
It's good to see these processes but the music is awful. I would rather hear the sound of the machinery. Explanation of the different processes would also be good and make it more educational.
