what you call a "jet engine " was more of a ducted fan , possibly for spraying water over dust in a large area

The turbine are for blowing water so you have less dust in the air. And the same for makeing snow when it is cold.

I delivered some of the parts to build the new p&h shovel to replace the one that was buried in the 2013 slide.
WOW, it must be a great experience delivering parts to such a dangerous and deep place such as the Bingham Canyon Mine.
Worked for 3 years @ Rio Tinto and the landslide has been stabilized by removing overburden from on top, now the main Haul road into and out of the Pit passes direct by the slide area.... The destroyed road in the video used to go the the Visitor center which bit the dust....!
I wonder why they didn't evacuate these trucks and other equipment if they knew the landslide had started, they probably didn't expect the landslide to go that far.

I think I am all alone on this planet. I can not explain why, but I ALMOST cry when I see a discarded boat.
Watching that boat being rolled around and then ran over hurt my heart and I have no idea why. I am not a boat person and neither were my birth givers, but the hurt is so very real.
Canoes oddly enough do not generate such pain upon seeing them discarded. Like I said, I think I'm all alone. lol

The jet engine - which is really elecric - is there to add moisture to the mined prodict.
Giant humidifier removal of dust I run D9H land leveling a new farm coming out CRP being turn in irritated farm.It was truely a joy to operate. No cab rollover. Protection yes no glass or other cab stuff. In the winter time our mechanic had vinyl incloser made at local 4x4 shop like what see on CJ 5 and plumbed aux heater it snapped the 4 big ropes posts you had to layer up but did help alot when the wind blew. After seeing those land slides in the mine do you think of it much when down in it pretty deep?
I believe the extremely large tubular metal structure was a jackup rig which sits on the ocean bottom with leveling legs

19:12 .. this is what you get for not changing the tire, now you have to spend 20 minutes washing the dirt of the side of the cab
The 1st thing was an oil drilling platform. The jet looking nthing was a soaker to keep dust down. It sprays water and the dozer can use a set of grousers or tracks. The pads are about worn flat. And if you dig out a hole you've got to have a place to put the dirt. When it gets wet it'll SLIDEif not packed and seeded and we'll see how the imported haul trucks hold up. Probably like their other junk. Cheers, Pal!

I drove one of those big mining dump trucks briefly and I can tell you they slide with no warning even at low speeds. If it's wet and downhill they are treacherous to drive. Most of the braking is electric, at the engine, and you can be easing down a wet hill below 30 mph and suddenly the rear end comes around on you. There is no feel in the steering like a car has and it you use the wheel brakes when it slides you are done. All you can do is counter steer and ease off the throttle ever so slowly until you regain control.

Actually, these vehicles are not autonomous, and people drive them, but they were evacuated in time.

@@kpdvw There is no law preventing the use of metric measurements. In fact most US industries no longer produce anything using English units of measure. Anyone who tries finds out their product won't sell abroad. All my cars (including the Fords), motorcycles (BMWs and Harleys) and all but a couple of really old household appliances are metric. Almost all of my tools are metric ( I have some hold over SAE tools in case I buy something old that needs to be fixed ). When I do encounter something made with an SAE thread it is a royal pain in the you know what to find parts that screw in. If it wasn't for some backwards southern states the US would have fully adopted the metric system in the 1970s but the johnny rebs wouldn't allow it. So we are stuck with this miserable system of measurements due to stubborn ignorance.
