Good topic. I personally play with them just because it’s relaxing, and it’s fun collecting, and fun to photograph. On the other hand, I would like more diversity in anime/bjd since sometimes I can see how it’s hard to identify with certain anime characters when cosplaying as a different phenotype. I do like the push that SmD is doing with denormalizing what is defined as default. As an off topic, in Japan, my aunt is not Japanese and has been living there for 20 years and she still faces micro aggressions. It takes a lot to be welcomed into their society so this must be where DC is coming from pushing the boundaries, which is a start, to say the least.
Second point- I also do dress the dolls according to how I would idealize a classy girl/woman would be. Cute dresses for the spring. A warm turtle neck with a trench for the fall/winter, etc. Not saying that is how I would dress if I was a girl because I’m not like that as a cis male, but it’s more of how I would like a girl to dress, per se. I would say it would be how I want my wife to dress but that ship has long sailed.
Good points, I feel the same way about dressing my dolls. There will always be push back when breaking barriers, the first guy through the wall always gets bloodied up. We’re just lucky Danny is willing to take the hits for us.
