I liked this comparison, because sometimes people want to pitch the two brands against each other. I think they are both great and each have their own charms (and downsides, of course). If it's difficult to remove the hands (on either doll), you can slightly heat it up with a hairdryer. Remember to not wiggle from side to side, because that may cause exhaustion on the peg, which may then break.
Thank you! That was exactly what I didn't want to do because I really love both dolls. You are so right, they both have their charms. I know that some people have to make a choice because they don't have the luxury of owning two dolls, but I'm very glad I didn't have to make the choice because I don't know how I would. Thanks for the tip about the hairdryer! I'm planning to change Sailor Moon's hands this afternoon and will give that a try because I think it will be much easier on her hands and mine 😂
About the peg thing.... I think I learned that from when i still used to have monster high dolls.... over HALF my dolls had missing hands, one had a missing leg, and a few were missing arms!!!

Eeee I'd love to start saving for one but I can't decide which! I adore VOLKS dolls and I don't want fragile joints, but Smart Dolls look more realistic body wise, and I don't think I could ever put a DD in a crop top and make it look natural lol

I love both but I prefer the the fact that the chest joint is hidden on the smart doll, especially good for photographing her in a bikini or cropped top.
You know I hadn't even thought of that but yes, Smart Doll looks waaaay better in a bikini or crop top 👙

Thank you for making this. I was hoping there would be a video doing a vinyl doll comparison, The only videos i see on comparing is with resin BJD's So this is great. I'm getting Felicity for my birthday and she'll be my first Smart Doll. If you want more clothing options i'd always go with a Smart Doll because they're much skinner than a Dollfie Dream. DD's are wider in the legs and hips and the bust is slightly bigger so it's harder to find clothes for them.

I've got the DDdy and DD Sister with the new F3 skeleton. It's better even than the normal skeleton, definitely worth taking a look at. I like that dress! Also how you have a natural make-up look altogether nice vid!
(The busts differ a lot per model and bust customization)

The older DD have fragile arm sockets known to crack, fortunately getting replacements is not too difficult.

I wish the stand hole was a bit higher on Smartdolls. If you have an outfit that shows off the midriff, the stand hole will be on show, plus it covers up where there would have been the cute back muscles as can be seen on the DD. Definitely prefer the upper body join placement on the SM though. I just ordered my first doll, a Mirai and am so excited!

There are both great dolls, with pro and con each. For me personally I prefer the torso joint on the smart doll, makes for better photos. But their leg range of movement is not so good

Thanks for the comparison! I wish Dollfie Dream carried other vinyl/ABS colors like they did for their discontinued Dollfie lines (they had "Guy" color, white, normal, and tan, which is more than the white and normal skin they have for Dollfie Dream), but I guess Obitsu doesn't really do that either (although they did do a limited coconut and marrone).
I agree about that 100%, I find myself already dreaming about Smart Doll Majesty with her gorgeous chocolate skin tone.

I'm not sure, Sailor Moon has found a new home so I'm not able to check for you, however, I was able to share some other clothes between them so I would think it could work.
Excellent comparison. I find the Smartdoll spine too loose. I might replace my Mirai with a one-piece torso DD. DD has nicer legs, too! Smartdoll's extra-long calves look weird to me.

Hello how are you? I really appreciate your video! How would you compare the bust size between Usagi/Sailor Moon & the Smart doll?
I will be honest I can't remember entirely as I've sold Sailor Moon since this video. I think hers was a little larger, but the SmD bust comes in a lot of sizes, I only have the standard size.
This is a very helpful video. I just bought my first Dolfie Dream. Where did you find the converse sneakers?

I really like the added flexibility of the Smart Doll elbow. You can pull the joint out and it becomes a double joint, so she can have her upper arm flush to her lower arm, do tighter poses etc. But aside from that I don't think there's much different between the two frames.
I am about to get my first DD. I have a question about clothes. Trying to understand how she can wear some MDD and some SD clothes which is what the Volks site said if I read correctly. Aren’t these quite different sized dolls? Also, what is SD13. And MSD is a 1/4 size so that is too small right? Sorry for all the questions. I am in a muddle about this.
They are quite different so I'm not really sure, the tops could probably work for both but they'll be more like crop tops on DD

Can they share clothes they look like they're both about the same size and like Boston hip areas so could a smart doll outfit fit the other doll and verse Vice??
I've yet to try DD clothes on my smd but they are compatible! Just because of how weirdly sized DD torsos/busts can be they might be a little bit baggy or tight in some areas. They won't fit like official Culture Japan outfits would as they're not tailored to the exact measurements of the correct doll but generally they have the same clothing size :) also depends what bust you get though
@@jellifygirl that's good to know. I'll buy clothes for DD on AliExpress. About the shoes, I need to measure my SD foot length and width to find the best option, coz on Culture Japan site the outfits are really expensive.
@@tinaag Usually, most shoes with a ~7cm interior will work! I've made a general measurement for a sole so I'll see if it's correct or not in a bit

No, I would not recommend buying there as they could be fakes. The Volks doll was purchased from volksusa.com/ and the Smart Doll was purchased at the store in Tokyo, but you can buy them online here:

Do they cost the same? Can you buy individual parts, at least I am guessing that's an option, right? Any way to buy pieces as you go? How about clothing? Where's the best source to buy from?
You can't realistically go and gradually buy individual pieces of either doll. You have to get the full doll, an odd spare part like a bust or hands, or nothing really - but if you want to build your own, smart doll has a cortex (a different material, not like vinyl) kit available but it's quite hard to do. Check out each company website (volks for dd, culture japan for smd), they'll have all the info you need. Price varies from doll to doll especially with volks :)
Best source to buy the dolls is definitely the official websites since the ones that get resold are usually old limited ones and are very expensive! Sometimes you can find them on trusted groups though if you want to check for anyone selling a doll more locally etc. Clothes depends on your tastes, you can make them, you can buy official clothes (usually more expensive because of the quality, less risk of staining and the guaranteed nice fit) or check trusted sellers on etsy, facebook groups, doll fan websites, even discord.
Can they share clothes?
Yes, SmartDolls can wear outffits for Dollfie Dream, Not sure about the other way round as I don't have any Dollfies
I second what David has said, because I haven't actually tried the Smart Doll clothes on the Dollfie Dream. That's a good idea and I'll give it a try this weekend and let you know!
I loved watching your video, its always nice to see someone elses view on Dollfiedream vs Smartdoll body's. something you shouldn't really do it twist and pull with the head.... It can crack the hole that attaches the head to the body making it loser then it should be and sadly as far as I know there is nothing you can do to fix this. I think you should go to Danny Choo's RUclips channel and watch his care video as he shows how to take apart the girls incase you have any questions about it.
Definitely!! I always take off my girl's head by simply slightly twisting side to side and pulling (basically what Danny does), twisting like this is much harder as someone who also struggles with fine motor skills haha. Same goes for hands! (it also means you probably won't lose the wig or ruin the faceup over time by accidentally touching the face too much)
Actually sailor moon comes with dds body which is dollfie dream sister there are dd bodies too

i think you need to push the DD chest joint down more, the straight peg that connect the chest skeleton and waist should not visible if its put on the right way, as for face sculpt i prefer DD head sculpt more, SMD face was cute but they have a flat face profile, that make them look not that great if we take their picture from the side, for body sculpt. for me 50/50, smd has more "realistic" style hips, and DD lower torso looks more stylized to anime look, for vinyl honestly DD feel nicer and feel thicker, for skeleton both of them has pro and con, DD skeleton has more structure than smd, especially the chest and hips parts, SMD minimalized their skeleton chest and waist skeleton much more simpler than DD but due to their "thin" size, theres a lot more room for the joint to move. for the legs joint a dont really like both hha, DD joint too flexible, which is great for poseability but not that great for stability, SMD legs, too rigid, and less poseable than DD, smd only 90 degree and DD can do more.

Of course! In Japan, Dollfie Dream's main market are the male otakus. It seems to have gained more popularity with female outside of Japan however but yes the anime themed/vinyl bjds are originally marketed towards male audience.
I think it should be smart doll because it has a lot of flexibility. But I like both of them. So hard.
