@@NiightDJ For the most of the series he is the main antagonist to our heroes, but Ben believes he IS working for the good guys, when in fact he has been working for the bad guy all along. It's complicated. He's one of my favorite characters of all time.
Well it was Jacob until the Smoke Monster took over once he transformed into Christian. The problem with Ben is that like Widmore, he consciously used Jacobs "orders" into his own agenda. Some of it was his own doing like all of the Walt arc and then the Jack, Kate, Sawyer triangle drama was also his doing as two examples. But the thing is, Ben already was kind of a natural at those things even before he got "corrupted" by the temple's water, if you recall, Richard told Sawyer and Kate that he would lose his innocence once they help him along with most of his memories about what transpired during their stay like with Sayid shooting him for dead. It is similarly to how Sayid became less "human" after his revival, it happened the same to Ben, but unlike Sayid, Ben never really had anyone that could talk some sense into him during all those years from being a kid into the show's story so his corruption was too far gone compared to Sayids. At the end though, what really brought him back from corruption was at three different situations. The first push was Alex's death, the second was when Ilana forgave him despite of what he did, and the last and final straw was when the Smoke Monster told him he would destroy the island despite telling him earlier that Ben could have the island all to himself. So the most important three things in his life was what redeemed him in a way. The only person he truly cared about, someone "claiming" him in order to not feel lonely and be alone, and the third the potential loss of his remaining power that was promised to him by the Smoke Monster. So to sum up, a combination of a tiny bit of his own persona mixed with the corrupted version of him, Jacob, Smoke Monsters and the Others (Widmore and Richard in particular) were all key factors in his manipulative skills and to why he became so good at it that he even fooled the Smoke Monster at the end.
Ben never met Jacob though, or had any interaction with him until he killed him. It was always Richard who, through Jacob, gave Ben the lists. In fact he was startled for the first time when the cabin started shaking, because he was making it all up.
@@TheHalloweenKing Yes he blatantly is, he doesn't think he is no many do not, but he is quite literally a villain whose direct and indirect actions literally led to the death of no fewer then 15 people. Amazing character and all absolutely awesome and fantastic in almost every way! but can stop that nonsense...just because he wouldn't see himself as a "villain" does not mean he isn't one, and just because you may like him-as I do- also does not make him not a villain ya know. He absolutely 100 percent was only achieving a semi redemption arc at the very very end or mid way through of season 6.
omg funny as hell! you should out on the other scene where ben mindfucks locke. the one when locke comes back after ben tried to kill him in the ditch with the dharma initiative people
Ben messed with Locke so much because Ben was such a weak, shriveled little pathetic weasel that he couldn't deal with the fact that Locke had a deeper, more powerful connection with the Island than Ben himself ever did. And Ben lying to Locke about not pushing the button...that the numbers simply reset once they displayed those symbols without him entering any numbers or pushing any buttons is what led to the Island's location being revealed, causing Widmore's freighter arrival, Keamey and his assault team, the bomb on the Kahana and the killings of all those people including Rousseau and Alex. Ben manipulating Locke (to the point of killing him) gave the Smoke thing the loophole it needed to kill Jacob. Ben...the bug-eyed bass terd is the one that created all that misery (including torturing Kate and Sawyer and Jack...just for the surgery). Ben getting caught and exposed as a liar (the artist formerly known as Henry Gale) forcing the others to bait Michael with Walt into freeing Ben is what led to the deaths of Ana Lucia and Libby. Ben's little ego crusades cost a LOT of lives. He even stabbed Keamey to death even after learning about the dead man's switch linked to Keamey's heart rate. Ben is directly responsible for ALL their deaths. So I don't get all the posters who praise Ben as some kind of mastermind. He's complete idiot that sent his daughter out to into the jungle which caused her and her mother and her boyfriend to get killed. He had that secret closet he could have hidden them inside...and also that secreter closet too!
Most fans never praised him for being a Mastermind, they praised him for being an effective Manipulator and Liar, completely different things. The fact still remains that he was still clever enough to adapt to most circumstances.
@@DarknessIsThePath Where did all that lead to? Smokey nearly won. Ben's daughter died. Ben's cruel manipulation of Juliet caused her to side with Jack and the Oceanics. This lead to Tom and his entire team getting killed. Ben's stupidity in sending Mikhail to kill the Looking Glass Station team is what led them to give the code to Charlie, which led to Charlie's death and the signal jammer being shut off. This gave the Keamy and freighter crew the coordinates to the Island. Ben's manipulations backfired and caused a LOT of death and nearly undid everything the was trying to accomplish at every turn. In my book, Ben's a self-serving idiot!
People can criticize lost for a lot of things but the character work was outstanding.
Those two saved LOST in my opinion.
I just watched the following episode, the one that ends with the classic "You guys got any milk?" scene. Ben did it for two episodes in a row!
The show needed characters like Jack, Kate or Hurley.
Though we all know we watched it for John and Ben.They owned the show

As much as ben manipulates everyone, he was manipulated from the very beginning, believing that Jacob was the one telling him what to do.
That's where he got his manipulation skills from. Jacob taught him it, now he has a degree in manipulation

No. Locke was genuinely mad Jack always seemed to take charge.
