THANK YOU THE REVIEW =)
You’re welcome
Had one fail after less than a year. Kept it in the garage. It stopped turning on no matter what setting the dial was at. You could hear a relay click every couple of seconds but the unit would not turn on. Had to return it for store credit.
Hi my friend! I just bought one, but my thermostat is different from yours, I just want to know in which position it freezes (MAX or I turn the thermostat in the middle)
If you leave it in the middle it'll freeze. I would suggest getting a thermometer. When I first got this freezer I also didn't know where to set the dial. Using the thermometer confirmed that what I thought is 0 F is 0 F.
Mine stole working I tried replacing the ptc relay with a hard start kit that should work with a refrigerator or freezer and made sure it was designed for a small compressor and Still not working =_=
thanks for sharing
My pleasure
Has anyone had any issues with the blue light to know it's still working ? I can hardly see mine. Also tech tip I put it on a movers dolly because I have it in an apartment on carpet and put a pice of plastic hall runner under just in case the compressor had any problems or my drainage valve.
My blue light went out, but I doesn't seem to be running. I just noticed it today, everything was still frozen. So, was your light out? Was the compressor still run?
Is it important to set it directly on cement floor or should there be a barrier? Thanks!
The barrier doesn’t affect the temperature in the freezer. It’s not like the ideology against putting car battery on the concrete
Should I use drain pan if keeping it inside? I currently have it in my shed, but too much of a hassle
I wouldn’t use a drain pan because even if ice melts and leaks out, it will only leak a small volume.
Unlike a washing machine, those need a drain pan because it is hooked up to a water line and has a consistent stream of water.
You got a great deal
I just got a used one today. It's my first time ever buying a freezer. I'm puzzled by the temperature dial and where to set it. I mean I do want the food frozen frozen. Because the point of getting it was to keep meats for months at a time. I don't think I changed the setting from where I got it, and i think the person before me had it on min? Does that even freeze? Or is that basically like a refrigerator? I originally just put it in the middle where the "Cold" line starts, but I moved it where you did. Not sure what the optimal setting is, cuz I thought frozen was frozen. Does food keep longer if it you keep it below 0 degrees or something?
Frozen food lasts longer but not forever. I got an analog thermometer for the chest freezer. I try to keep the temperature at 0F. If it’s 1 or 2 F, that is fine too.
@@AwkwardHamster Yeah to be honest, I got it cuz my Dad wanted it. I dunno anything about freezing food. I heard it can make food last for several months, but not "forever" as in like over a year. My dad was so excited to use it that he's already got food in there within 2 hours of us getting it. I'm concerned it's not gonna be frozen by morning. After 4 hours it's cool, bordering on cold, but the stuff we put in was frozen I think.
You keep your in the garage. Any problems? How hot does it get there? I am cautious about putting it in the garage because we have HOT humid Spring and Summers here. What has been ur experience? Thanks!
New Jersey has humid summers, around 80% humidity and temperature hovers around 90F. Sometimes it go to 100F but that rarely last for more than 2 days at a time.
Ice builds up around the door seal over the summer but that expected and can be easily cleaned. Just remove it by hand.
I don’t have room on my 1st floor for a chest freezer and I didn’t want to move this to the basement. Garage was the better choice for convenience.
Do you still have it? Is it still working?
Why is it that the freezer is very hot outside
What do you do with your food while waiting for your freezer to completely defrost to clean? Also, I'm getting mine at Best Buy for $179. Do you think that's good price? It's regularly $229 but I'm getting it as a Black Friday deal. I've also read online that you have to clean coils at least twice a year. Is that something I'm going to have to tackle?
I defrost when there isn’t much in the chest and I can put it in my fridge. $179 is decent.
If I needed to buy a freezer unit again, I would spend a little more to get the upright freezer units. With chest freezer, I sometimes forgot the items at the bottom and end up buying duplicate items.
@AwkwardHamster Thank you for your feed back.
What should the temperature be in a 5 cubic freezer?

@@AwkwardHamster Thank you
Awesome review and follow up! Do you think getting the 3 year geek squad protection plan would be a good idea for this product? Thanks!
I didn’t think getting the protection plan was worth it because it covered 3 or 5 years and the cost was more than half of what I paid.
If you have American Express they offer one additional year warranty.
@@AwkwardHamster my thought exactly....cost is too much when you think of cost to replace
حججحححككدءظددددددددددد
@@AwkwardHamster aaaaa
Extended warranties are usually a waste. I encouraged people not to get them on refrigerators. Sure, the newer stuff is usually worse quality than the stuff from years ago. But my last refrigerator died after about 18 years. My mini fridge was still working over 20 years later until I poked a hole in the refrigerant line in the ice box. The warranty may come in handy with Samsung washers and dryers though. Those things suck, that's why they're so cheap. Samsung needs to stick to phones and TVs.
I bought the same one but a 3.5 cuft and i paid $159 at best buy and it was the last one.
Just got a 7cuft from Best Buy for $169.99 today
Still working ?
By example, how many 10lb bags of chicken leg quarters will you 7.5 hold? Thanks
5 cubic feet worth. If you know the size of the chicken’s packaging you can calculate it.
Did it come with four legs? Min is missing two
I think you’re referring to the two adjustable legs in the left side. Mine came like that as well. I showed them at 1:08 in this video ruclips.net/video/KEdS5nQt-z4/видео.html
What if I can’t take it outside to defrost
dynamite
How long do it take to fix a thermostat
I haven’t had to call them to service the thermostat
How cold does your garage get? I want to put mine in the garage but the temperature fluctuates so much where I live.
I live in NJ and my garage window is single pane not insulated so I think it gets down to 0 F in the winter.
Where do you live ? Because I thought I was lucky when I purchased my 3.5 for $220 taxes included😊. Thank you for the video
I live in Jersey. I purchased the freezer before the pandemic. I wanted to buy another one last year but the prices went to $200. Home Depot recently had the same capacity freezer for under $100. But alas, they cancelled my order due to over demand.
@@AwkwardHamster Okay I see why your price was so good🙂. I'm in Montreal, CA
Because in the manual it does not specify 🙄
at frost may be from the sealer failing
Why is their a bunch of dents at the bottom of the freezer??
The inside lining material is not hard, rather softer than expected. Frozen food pokes at it and makes these small dents.
Mine also dented like this, from what I've concluded to be from body parts , however I've put some small padding down and bingo I'm back to using it for everything from torsos to leg and thighs, and the basket works great for fingers and toes..ty
Is there a reason why you don’t keep the temp at max ?
Cost. I just need the temperature to be 0 F so my food is safely frozen. Anything lower will cost more money.
@@AwkwardHamster that makes sense…I just got this freezer today and gonna set it up. I’ve never had a stand alone freezer like this so wasn’t sure
Can this hold about 100lbs of meat?
The unit I have can only hold 5 cu ft. If I chop it up Tetris style I think I can fit it.
I paid $189 for this exact freezer. It's been on for 2 days and the interior has not gone under 20F (the freezer is empty). Is this normal? Or did I get a dud?
That is not normal. 20 F may freeze the food but it should be 0 F. And it shouldn’t take more than a day to chill an empty freezer to 0 F.
@@AwkwardHamster Thank you. I am going to test it with a new thermometer (the current analog one I'm using is old), and if the reading was accurate I'll return it. Thanks!
@@icychaphow did it go ??
@@jazmynnorman4384 great! It took a few days, but the freezer eventually got down to -10, and there it has stayed for a couple years. Very happy.
@@icychap thank you ! I need mine -4 for my milk
What is the matter when blue light is blinking?
I do not know.
A flashing light on an appliance can actually mean the wall plug in has the polarity reversed...
does ambient temperature affect these freezers?
mine was outside in the shed(no insulation) winter and summer last house. new house its been stored in my smallest room. with the heat on, that room gets the warmest. the freezer went to defrost mode on its own(lid was a little open as i had too many items in there so frost build up quick) and doesnt seem to be freezing anymore.
blue light is on and inside is cold but the items inside and defrosting and dont seem to be freezing. im wondering if being in that room affected it. then again it was outside in the heat and cold and seem to work fine then.
me too, the meat doesn't be freezing at all.
Hi, Is this price USD or CAD dollar?
USD
@@AwkwardHamster And the 2 major power outages were only related to this freezer? or was it general power outage of all appliances at your home?
@@hannas4486 The unit did not cause my power outages. Neighbor’s tree came down on the power line due to a storm. A few weeks later another storm rolled by and knocked out power for a day.
Warning, these are notoriouis of shutting down with the blue light still on. Check Best Buy reviews, people are having the same issue, I'm one of them. Losing hundreds of dollars of meat sucks.
Mines not cooling anymore but light on. What do I do?
@@acceleratedvideoproductionyours gave out ? Trying to find one not over $200 for my breast milk
Will this freezer keep my Basset Hound puppy cool on hot summer days?
how can I contact you?
Social media contacts are in the description of all my videos.
My blue light is no longer working and all the ice has melted. My food was defrosting so I took everything out. I think it was turned to the off position.. I'm a novice at this. Do you think it is working even if the blue light is not on? Please advise. Thank you
I don’t think there is an off switch but when you’re not sure which way to turn the dial, set it to the middle. And because this unit is analog, separately I got a thermometer. It can be any thermometer that can read 0 F. I look at it when I am not sure if the temperature is stable.
It’s suppose to have the blue light but I think it has a very slim chance that actual light broke but freezer is still working. Clean any frost buildup, plug it back in, then see if it gets cold.
@@AwkwardHamster Thank you for your quick response. It was very much needed and appreciated.
an you defrost with a tray beneath
Before buying 1, I'm checking on how big (or small) a 5 cu ft freezer is IRL; comparing it to things around it and, because of The Hand in this video, I need look no further. Thanku! So, you paid $100 on sale at Best Buy in 2018!? It's Feb 2023, and it's more than doubled to $210 on sale, but ofc my paycheck hasn't doubled. F-U-N. Maybe I'll wait until the "Presidents 'Day Sale."
You're not supposed to put it in the garage. It's not garage ready. There are other freezers for that. I'm surprised it's still working.
As long as it can stay 55 degrees you can put it anywhere.
wtf is garage ready lmao
I’m looking into this one to store my breast milk I’m scared it will go out and i lose all my child’s milk
The freezer hasn’t failed me yet. But this summer I will need to defrost it again.
@@AwkwardHamster why defrost in the summer ?
It’s easier to dry the inside out before I put it back in service
Do not buy Insignia brand.
Why
@@ahying727 no any warranty for parts, quality not good
I've heard nothing but good things about their fridges. Not like they actually make anything. It's best buy's brand on top of various companies components. Their TVs are actually pretty decent as well. Some of he earlier ones had Samsung panels in them.
I've had mine for 4 years now 5cu ft insignia and it has been great I'm buying a 14cu ft insignia freezer now I've had great luck with the brand
Stop fear mongering... there is nothing wrong with the brand freezer
Don't buy these without the warranty. Had one for a year and a half then suddenly stopped working. Didn't notice until I opened it to get something and got slapped in the face with the smell of rotting food.
Yea it needs to b cleaned
