Anyone who gives out royalty free samples will want to be credited especially if it's for monetary gains. By them not crediting the producer he could of sued regardless
A decent human being would give credit where it's due, verbally and monetarily. Because they know they wouldn't be where they are without the music behind it.
So... free packs are for personal use, but if you use another artist's loops to make money, legally they at least deserve credit. And if a substantial amount of money is made, they deserve a cut for providing the original inspiration and tools.
Did you even watch the video? They literally didnt get paid because the loop was labeled as royalty free. The main issue was getting credit on the song, which they got

Bro, I'm not a producer, don't know much about music. But from what I understand it works like this: You don't have to pay an entry fee, but if you do make money from the song, you gotta credit the artist (which should be a given, like c'mon) and also pay him, because he essentially made part of the song. It sounds completely fair and worth it to me, cause if you buy a pack, you not only have to PAY FOR THE PACK, but also pay royalties and give credit. That's what I understood.
This video caused me to look up the difference between royalty free and copy right free. So learned something new. Thx for that and getting that loop out there becasie the song is fire.
I think getting credit for having a piece of your work in a major song is something you’d want as a producer. You can show that to other people and be like I did this and they can help you in the future
I mean, technically you didn't tho, you made a melody, everyone can do that and post on the internet as royalty free and get placements for big producers. The producer and the rapper are the ones actually transforming your melody into something.
@@JuniorOliveira-lp4fo*engineer* and no not everybody can make melodies like that and get a platinum placement. Platinum and gold status is based of units sold or equivalent. So it’s 1,000,000 copies sold or the streaming equivalent, not sales in dollar amount. Hope that helps
@@Cocinaughty that’s not accurate. When I said “or the equivalent” I mean in terms of streaming to sales. Roughly (edited) 150 streams is equivalent to 1 unit sold. Platinum is 1 million units sold. Each platform pays out a percentage of a penny sometimes 2 Pennies per stream. The number made from a platinum record today is not 1:1 as it used to be. The amount of money the song makes doesn’t matter in regards to the platinum or gold status. Soundscan tracks sale numbers/units and not the quantitative amount (because singles can be purchased at different rates whether it streamed or bought for .99/1.29) the song made monetarily. If the song goes platinum, that means it has amassed an equivalent of 1 million units, not 1 million dollars.

The kit is free as in it's offered at no cost, that doesn't mean it's royalty free whatsoever. @@shinzoux5912 I was wrong. but free doesn't mean royalty free. Bro, this whole video is like if i give my homie a peso and he uses it to buy a scratcher and wins, and my boss wants a cut cause he payed me with his money
All it is that the producer didn't credit the og. A sample pack being free is not equivalent to royalty free/free for profit. It just means you can use it for free and make non profit content with it. Which I guess was the original intention of the song, but the producer who put the drums didn't pay or credit the sample makers
No it’s like giving your homie a peso and saying you free to spend it on anything, but if you’re monetizing it I want a cut. Free beats and copyright isn’t free no strings attached, and that’s stated. This beat happened to be free no strings attached as it was royalty free, but they usually aren’t.

Cuz it was all filmed. Bro really had the weakest take of all time w this vid. Ain’t this the dude who used to spam RUclips with ads about his “free packs” Now he wants royalties on that? Fym
If u download a movie for free and it’s marketed as free, it doesn’t mean u have the rights to use it. The terms and conditions to the loop say if it has over 5mil streams then it’s not royalty free anymore. That’s fair because it means u don’t pay until u make a bunch of money l.
If it’s a free sample kit, you already got paid. That’s the way the law perceives this situation. You placed that loop in a kit that was labeled as free. Meaning royalty free. It was also on a website designed to provide free sounds/kits for production. Meaning he does not have to pay you for that beat. I would have told you to take me to court so legally you could be told the same. You had no expectation of payment upon placing that kit on a site as a free kit! You can’t expect one now when there was no paperwork stating that deal. This works the same as if there was a contract. If you accept 5K upfront and 3-5 points on the backend, that’s what you get! Only way to alter said deal is contract renegotiation. The only difference in the two processes is you can’t renegotiate what was already given out as free! Free means free! No matter what!

royalty-free means royalty-free. you may get credit but not necessarily paid. words have meaning. not being facetious at all. I've worked decades in the music industry and also in the legal field. moral lesson : as a producer don't use(*third party*) sample packs / loops even if they are labelled free /royalty free ,,, even if you bought the loop kits ,,, in the end it will haunt you

@@choppchopp9975 ur not telling me nothing idk lmaoo. My point still stands he had nothing to do with the song other then steal his friends loop for his “pack”.
Yeah as the comment above mentioned, you just need to give credit. The pack was released as royalty free so they didn't need to lose any money on it anyways. Depending on the license, even credit may not be required, but that's just human decency to credit the right people. What happened in the video was understandable since the person who made the full beat probably didn't disclose that it wasn't his own sample, and they ended up clearing the misunderstanding anyways. This video itself is misleading though, they should have started the video saying that the music was royalty free. Way too much drama for nothing.
Imagine having to credit the creator of a LOOP you used from a free pack lmao. Kyle didn’t even have a hand in the finished beat. Transformative use of a loop. This is clickbait
Imagine a world where beatmakers had to give credit for each aspect of a beat lol. “Beat prod me. Kick by Cookin Soul. Hi hat by Sonny Digital. Synth by…”
This felt like a net flix special much less a youtube video. The production the editing the way you telling these stories now are so dope and clean. As entertaining as this was i also felt it was a good lesrning experience. Kinda gives you an idea on how to handle yourself in these type of situations. Not everything always has to be about securing the bag. Sometimes building new relationships can be much more valuable in the long run. Well done kyle, handled this with class. Much respect and congrats to darez on becoming a plat producer!
The producer and the beat need accredited, no matter free or not. It can be used in anything, but if it isn't credited properly, then the other "producer" could say it's his own original beat even tho it wasn't. It's just not right.
There doesn't necessarily need to be a payment made either, but most labels in good faith will give the original "producer" a decent cut as well as their name on the track.
Finding it a lil funny that you emphasize maintaining a solid relationship with OT and his crew, yet use his name in the thumbnail and claim he 'stole' the beat. I have no issue with you wanting Darez to get credited and even paid - but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth the way you handled the title and thumbnail even though you put quotes around the word "stole". You're essentially libeling OT to garner attention for you and your boy. Also, you took the time to drop a link for the 2 week challenge in your description AND pinned comment but fail to link any of Darez's socials 💀 Again, I completely agree with wanting appropriate credit and compensation and I can appreciate you being a homie to your boy. But despite everything, you end up coming across as more of an opportunist instead of someone actually trying to do something genuine. Just my 2 cents. Overall though I'm happy you and Darez got the credit y'all deserved. Keep it up dawg 🔥
@@DonnaInMalibu honestly, I'm inclined to agree. The part where Kyle is talking to his lawyer and the lawyer says "let's back up" 3x seems sus to me, especially since the clip cuts right afterwards. I wouldn't be surprised if the lawyer was about to tell Kyle that he's not entitled to any compensation due to the sample being part of a free pack. This is just speculation of course, but I also feel it isn't a huge stretch.
The recording of the conversation is very educational for all future producers. There is no "Blueprint." Congrats on creating a win/win situation from this. Amazing!
Honestly shoutout to OTs team for even responding. Most new cats would ignore that shiz and block them. Then in most cases the new producer doesn’t have the resources to sue to get his cut.

You a good ass dude bro. Most people would be straight up gunnin to take whats theirs. You took the time and had patience to create and build a relationship for your future endeavors.
Bro free loops are free as long as you don't make profit. To use the beat for commercial use you have to buy or lease the beat that way the producer gets hits cut
it’s all about principle, paid for or free. you are still not the original creator of the piece, you are not the owner. the goal is to be transparent and give everyone credit and respect they deserve for their work on the record. it’s complex it’s not simple
Does no one know about how free for personal use is different from business use? Like if you use windows 11 for a pc at home it’s one thing, but if you take the same copy of windows 11 and install it on a shitload of office computers it’s illegal? Plus it seems more like he just wants there to be credit for his friend.
Unless the loops are marked as royalty free by the owner of the loops you must seek clearance, you can’t just use a loops and sell the masters to the loop without permission.
Free beat packs are often intended for non-profit use, such as for practicing or recording before making an investment. They may not be able to be distributed, performed, radio streamed, or monetized in any way. If you want to use a beat for commercial purposes, you may need to purchase a license from the producer.
the main goal was being credited. a platinum record that has it's main melody being your creative content without any hint of credit toward you is a pretty big deal.
Just like the music companies, they are always trying to take every little bit they can from the Rappers and singers. Thank you for showing me how companies like you give out free beats to people to use, so when they go platinum, you can come back and explain to them how free means royalties for the free sample.
What are you talking about? The Johnny Dang track was just a fluke, could have just easily happened on a non-royalty free loop but it didn't. Producers have to put free shit out there sometimes. It's necessary promotion for their brand, and enables up and coming producers to experiment with pre-existing samples or loops. Nothing at all wrong with manipulating some MIDI notes to build your own song. The guy who created them didn't even notice it was his music!! Maybe that's because these guys create thousands of different sounds. They don't always know how "good" something is that they're making, so it's completely their responsibility to copyright certain things or choose to give them away.
I wish I could, been broke for a min and just got a job that starts in 3 days. Won't be getting paid until the challenge is done, but I wish everyone the best of lick and I hope there will be more challenges in the future.
That's what you call "double dipping". Selling royalty free kits for money to producers but if they strike gold and get a decent placement you want a piece of that too. You can't have it both ways. If yall knew the producer was gonna get a placement guarantee you would have never charged him for the so called royalty free kit
Did you watch the video? They didn't get paid. Better business model: enjoy the process of creating music, get good at creating music, be a cool person, make connections to other cool, music creating people, create music. There's a one in a millions chance someone picks up your music and you'll make some real money from it.
@@reallyeffingcooltechnodudeOf course I watched the whole video. In the end, he’ll get a Plaque to recognize his contribution to the song. I took more offense to the title “stole”. OT didn’t steal anything. Another producer used it form a “FREE” pack and OT got it from him. If OT never picked it up, never would’ve seen the light of day. As Nas would say, they made it a hot loop, OT made it a damn hit! Not to discredit the creator but this likely took him less than an hour to make. It takes hours to lay down the verses, structure the beat around the lyrics and many more hours to mix and master the song. Now you make the video and promote the song. It was a hit with or without that beat. OT and Paul Wall have turned many instrumentals into HITS. To the credit of this channel and the producer of the track, they, as you mentioned, created a lifetime connection. Networking is key in this industry. OT made his track a hit and now he’ll get the recognition he deserves and hopefully will now have a way to support his family in a career I imagine he loves.
So lie about and tarnish the reputation of the artist to get people to watch you? That’s what the law will call libel. I know why he did it. Hence why there's no payment but credit still goes to the original producer.
So... free packs are for personal use, but if you use another artist's loops to make money, legally they at least deserve credit. And if a substantial amount of money is made, they deserve a cut for providing the original inspiration and tools.

It sounds completely fair and worth it to me, cause if you buy a pack, you not only have to PAY FOR THE PACK, but also pay royalties and give credit. That's what I understood.

@@AUUA-p5v that’s unrelated
The streaming equivalent meaning that the amount of streams would have to garner 1 million dollars
No matter what!

the main goal was being credited. a platinum record that has it's main melody being your creative content without any hint of credit toward you is a pretty big deal.
Circling back to 5 years ago wit da quote "trust da process"...GOLD...Nah. PLATINUM💯
Just like the music companies, they are always trying to take every little bit they can from the Rappers and singers. Thank you for showing me how companies like you give out free beats to people to use, so when they go platinum, you can come back and explain to them how free means royalties for the free sample.
This is a perfect example why you shouldn’t use loops even if it says royalty free
facts why is bro mad that he mad he made a free pack and somebody used it
But he didn’t have to pay him cause it said “Royalty free”, so u can use them
@@Sandyyrn he did ask to have the other prod to get paid
If you're good enough you just make your own. These loop makers aren't anything special in the music world.
Stole? but is free to begin with? bro ur delusional
You dumb? Its free for personal use
Exactly
Nothing at all

I wish I could, been broke for a min and just got a job that starts in 3 days. Won't be getting paid until the challenge is done, but I wish everyone the best of lick and I hope there will be more challenges in the future.
dam now i cant upload my fl studio mobile beats
That's what you call "double dipping". Selling royalty free kits for money to producers but if they strike gold and get a decent placement you want a piece of that too. You can't have it both ways. If yall knew the producer was gonna get a placement guarantee you would have never charged him for the so called royalty free kit
Perfect example of why I will NEVER give my samples away royalty free 🤦🏽♂️
New business model: Make a ton of random loops, give them all out for free, wait for someone to do all the work and make it a hit… Get paid!
Their producer slowed the sample down and threw sum drums on it and called it a day tf are u talkn about ? 😭
@@betIwrekk Stole is just there to sensationalize the title and get u to click it lol
Shittin on them is weird idc what angle u comin from bro.
So lie about and tarnish the reputation of the artist to get people to watch you? That’s what the law will call libel. I know why he did it. I guess just from a generation that believes in standing on your own merit. Not riding on the backs of others. Anyway, good conversation. I wish you and this channel nothing but success. God Bless!
Great video as always Kyle! Thank you, for helping me stay distracted as i battle addiction withdrawals!
you got this man, the power to overcome addiction is to make yourself hate it, i do this by speaking against it any chance i get, and to myself, i used to drink smoke do cocaine ecstasy, i'm drug free today over this method, power of perspective brother and the power of Christ praying for you man 💙
@@Godisgood137 thank you brother 🙏
Fready you got this man, best of luck 🙏
Dw bro we wont use your sample packs now. Thanks for the heads up
You shouldn't or you should obtain prior permissions. Music artists have legal teams for a reason.
Dw bro Darez and Kyle clearly weren't going to get paid for you using their samples anyway lmao
Man I’ve watched a lot of YT videos over the years and idk if I’ve ever seen just a real general act of kindness like this…and it wasn’t for money or clout or anything. It was just the right thing to do. And now that man is a 5x platinum producer. Crazy 🤣
