I think you're confused. That is literally the definition of innovation. People learned from the 1999-2003 emo songs and made it innovative and more modern like xxxtentacion. You can say copying all you want, but your coping hard, also the whole premise of this video was to show the difference in style so you have the people copying kendrick lamar on one side and you have the people copying peep on another. Gen Z was more emotional whereas Millennials was more party/fun times. Makes sense though being as us Millennials (I’m 32) grew up with the “let’s have a fun time there’s no worries” in the 2000’s/early 2010’s and Gen Z grew up with the internet, being able to connect with a wide range of others who they can share their emotions with and a bunch of shit they dealt with on top of it. Both were great in my opinion, it shows how the world around us affects us even when it comes down to how we create artistically. Really cool video!
Well it was a hour and to combine a artist to help with producing will take significantly longer because they need to translate what they mean to a producer when an artist doesn't know how to do that quickly
Me (who likes the same older like 70s stuff as the gen z people) was cheering for the mellenials the whole time. They just seem so much more fun to be around and nicer people
Music only makes hits when it's a feel usually it's not how good the production was or how much experience because music is useless if humans don't feel a emotion to it
Underrated comment. I totally agree. It never happens in isolation or silos. It's dynamic. Even so, there is something so quintessential about music in each bracket of time. We churn music using elements from every era. So there is no forward or backward. It's just a melting pot of great ideas and elements just emulsifying into unique ornaments. Y'feel me?
I think what can be learned from this from a creative standpoint is: 1) If you have a job to do that requires collaboration, it's not about you the individual looking good, it's about the whole looking good. Matt and Chu understood that, that's why Chu used loops to make sure Matt had ample time to do what he needed to do. Bended was too wrapped up in him looking good and his vision that he only gave Tore 15 minutes to work. That's disrespectful of other people's time and sacrifices the quality of the group. 2) Moving something forward doesn't necessarily mean you're moving it in a good direction. You can refine and update something that's existing because sometimes something doesn't exist for a reason. That doesn't mean don't experiment, but you have to have discernment and an editing eye which takes humility and deference for the established conventions forming the foundation of your craft.
but the other song is also nothing new and is the most basic thing in the world, I'm sure that that type of music is the most common and repetitive that's why it sounds like all the other rap songs, atleast the producer played a real instrument and its not rapped
27 here - directly between the two generations mentioned, obviously leaning more towards millennial but I consume a ton of music from both. Something I wanted to point out that Gen Z did wrong throughout the entire process was something small to miss but MAJOR to music chemistry and creation - awareness of one's job in a production. As soon as the older team started, they dapped which immediately set a solid vibe, then both took their positions and let the other one work. Chu is a beat maker who understands this is going to have a vocal, so Matt let him cook while he focused on his job - making vocals. On team millennial, Tore had to focus on helping Bended get his ideas on paper (Bended already not collaborating, just trying to steer the ship) and then also try to figure out how to make his base idea into a usable song. Wanting to be progressive and push music/art forward is always a noble idea. But it's also not always that deep. Most people (including those in the studio) just want to vibe.
I think Bender needs to work on his collaborative skills a bit more, but a first timer for the challenge, there is always the unexpected Great video and creations by both teams
Seems like Gen Z learnt from this experience while the Millennials continue to do what they've always done. For me that's a Gen Z dub, shame that experience is reduced to "doing things more efficiently", true artistry ain't that. Interesting video thanks !
@@theKashConnoisseur Gen Z aren't exactly known for their exquisite taste lol, I actually came here initially thinking Gen Z were gonna be the splice loop merchants & the millennials were going to try to actually make a song
As a 34 yo Millennial, I thought the Gen Z guys had a better song. They used actual instruments and their lyrics had more substance and meaning, it kind of reminded me of a Puddle Of Mudd song. The Millennial guys did not seem like they put in much effort. It seemed like they just went for a cookie cutter sound that we've heard a billion times before, nothing ground breaking or unique which is why they weren't stressing out. The Millennials won because they brought a good, uplifting vibe which everyone is going to love when compared to a more emotional song. With that said, good music cannot be rushed or forced, but what both teams lacked was unconventionality. We've all heard these same drum patterns, drum sounds, same chords and chord progressions, same song structure, same intros, time signature, etc. The music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and even 90's was so great because of how unconventional it was. There was so much variety and experimentation back then. The new generations need to stop following formulas. Rick Beato does a great job breaking down what the new generation is lacking in his Top 10 Spotify reaction video series.
But they didn't, they made the most generic song possible with loops lol, the beat sounds like a worse version of Not Like Us & the rapping was beyond mid. Gen-Z actually went in to make a song from scratch, wrote their own harmony & melody, the song had a lot more artistry & soul to it even though it's not really a genre I enjoy. Gen-Z owned this, I was actually disappointed seeing the older dudes coming in making FL studio type beats & the younger kids actually producing music, I thought it was going to be the other way around. All the talk about "efficiency" & trying to justify using loops made it even worse.
🔥🔥Do one where they all work together. As much as i like seein us Millennials take a W its all about growing for both sides n i think all 4 of those guys together could come up wit some heat frfr. 2 songs but each group takes the driver seat while the others adds their twist and see what they come up with.🤷🏾♂️
Millennials do classic 90s-2005ish rap. Pretty classic beat and rapper. Gen Z goes straight for highly autotuned talk rap/pop with like a lil peep vibe.. Both sounded great.. I'm sure everyone leans towards what they are. I think gen z probably did a better overall job producing this. But I'd rather listen to the millennial's song.
I actually agree with this so much. I'm Gen Z and I do think millennials won this but I feel like the use of loops made the win be a bit cheaper, along with the mandatory beat switch that's in most songs that sound similar. Overall I do think millennials KNOW what sound good already so they are efficient with their beats and lyrics but it takes away from how much creativity and how unique the track is, whilst Gen Z have the opposite issue. They try experimenting more and do things differently even if its essentially bedroom pop mixed with emo, but lack efficiency and polish cause "new is better". Both songs sound good, but neither get playlist spots for me. I'd love to see this concept done again but having one Millennial and one gen z on each team, just switching prod and artist
I the mentality of gen z is so hard to process 🤦♂️ I try to understand them but like chu said, where is forward ? There is no forward. Corman said it best, they're constantly just making what's trending, and not doing it just because they enjoy music.
Forward is innovation. Change. Y’all don’t understand where forward is because you never change shit. It’s really simple to understand for someone with an open mind.
thats because they grew up with tiktok and social media plastered in their faces. alot of them are all about whats trendy. i have even seen comments from some saying they want to wear a certain style of clothes but cant because its not trending, so crazy. that makes me sad when i see those type of comments from them.
@@PSYB3RMOTH All of this bullshit happening to some gen z that you described is also the parents' fault. Lack of education and not being strict to your kids leads to them being glued to social medias. I was educated in a very strict way with my dad beating me up if i didn't do something right and ill thank him every day for punishing me. Putting every gen z in the same bag is the most stupid thing ever as well as hating on these new "trendy" artists; they worked hard to achieve what they got now. As a gen z myself i started listening to soul, blues and got inspired by it and started producing using these types of samples. Lastly he just bulldozed the creative process and even ate into the time that was supposed to be for song writing just so he could quantize after he had said that gen z prefers a more rugged and less filtered approach
Shut up
Caught that too then start talking about old music from past
If you truly think the guitar chords are from the 90s you're a fucking idiot.. just gonna say that straight out.
Now, both songs were generic trash, but I give Gen Z kid credit for using a real instrument... even if he had to fix the timing and cost them recording time for the vocals.
I was thinking the same thing 😂
Kyle, your videos are getting soo fucking good i feel like im watching a movie or something that had a very high budget, huge respect man!

That is how kyle does his videos to make a clear difference between the two sides
@@d-co-river8193 no I think you’re confused. Double check the definition of “innovate”. Also I’m not hating on the millennials because they’re not the ones who said they’re “pushing music forward”. They actually seem to have respect for the people that came before them.

I feel like bended really stole the entire creative process and didn't let the other gen z guy do anything but the actual production work
Well it was a hour and to combine a artist to help with producing will take significantly longer because they need to translate what they mean to a producer when an artist doesn't know how to do that quickly
great to see Matt and Chu team up this time after saw them have a little fight in the previous video , that's wholesome man

"I don't wake up and decide I'm not going to do it today" that was such a sick burn
1:57 music doesn't need a forward or back! Music is about how it makes you feel! And if it makes you feel something it's reached it's potential!
Y'feel me?
Fantastic video in concept, and especially in execution. This was cable TV quality! You keep raising the bar.
Wow, just discovered you with this and gotta say it’s some of the freshest most original useful fun content I seen in a while. Thanks for that.
I think what can be learned from this from a creative standpoint is:
1) If you have a job to do that requires collaboration, it's not about you the individual looking good, it's about the whole looking good.
Gen Z really made a basic bedroom pop indie ahhh song and threw some trap drums on there thinking they’re innovative 😭😭😭

Funny thing in the studio it's not all about me me this that ,it's We ,Team work
Leant a lot in this video 🙌🙌👌
as a gen z , this just made me realise how much we can't run away from the influence the generations before us paved 🤝🏿😹

Great video and creations by both teams
Bended always trynna make everyone angry 😂

Seems like Gen Z learnt from this experience while the Millennials continue to do what they've always done. For me that's a Gen Z dub, shame that experience is reduced to "doing things more efficiently", true artistry ain't that. Interesting video thanks !

The Gen Z held it down with the guitar and inspiration type energy. Both generations can learn from each other.

Before I even clicked on the vid I knew Millenniums would str8 knock it out the box. Gen Z were wayyyyy to cocky and lowkey disrespectful.
They both sounded generic.

For actual hype the GEN Z passed with flying colors, For good flow and progressive like a good drive at night then yeah Millinnials
classic 90s rap? lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ thats 2012 car commercial backing track.
Millennial here, almost Gen X ‘82. Both made great music in this one! 🔥 Congrats to both
Haven’t seen the end yet but the millennials should have just used the extra time to really make it extra hard.
That's true , but at the same time, if you add more than you need, you end up ruining the song
