The reason a lot of cotton/acrylic blends still recommend to lay flat to dry is that the tumbling motion (it's not a temperature problem) in the dryer will affect the texture of the cotton. Cotton undergoes something like pilling, but not as lumpy as fluffy acrylic, it's kind of like micro-pilling and it will affect the softness of the item. I'm sure it will survive, and it won't affect the structural integrity of the item, but it may affect the texture, so tumble dry only if you are OK with a potential change in texture.
Thanks for this info! Makes sense- I’m sure most of us have had the experience of buying a (usually cheaper) cotton tshirt and it comes out of the wash feeling… weird? The texture changes. Would hate to have that happen with something I made. So I’m definitely going to stick with skipping the dryer. Thanks again.
I agree with you. I have done a few test swatches of different types of cotton. Then I throw those swatches into a cool wash and dry. Some cotton just fuzzes up really badly. I had one cotton that I got from Michaels that picked up every tiny little piece of lint that had ever been left in my dryer. I found that if you really must tumble dry these types of yarns, put the knitted or crochet items into a soft pillow case or something similar. That seems to reduce the amount of rubbing and friction.
Know your cotton. Cotton comes in different staple lengths. Short staple: The most common type of cotton, with fibers measuring 1 1/8". Long staple: Fibers measure between 1 1/8" and 1 1/4". Extra-long staple: Fibers measure between 1 3/8" and 2". Short staple cotton exposes more fiber ends on the surface of fabric, making it feel rough and susceptible to bobbling. Unless the label gives a specific type, Pima, Egyptian, suprema, pima, the cotton fiber is short staple. Short staple is cheaper and easier to grow, hence cheaper to use in fabric and yarns. Hope this helps people understand why cotton feels and behaves differently.
Love the beautiful yarn colors. Oh so pretty worked up. Loving the one you worked up first . This would be so beautiful in a poncho. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these yarns.
I made a top out of this for Summer and it is so squishy. I’m really glad Michael’s came out with this because it does help with shipping. Also the premier one too. I still have quite a bit of it. Thanks for showing it. Hope you’re having a good morning.
BTW- Michael’s has a good deal going on where if you buy online and spend $40 you get a $10 reward. I believe that stacks with sales and coupons too. Tossing that out there.
Thank you for showing us the Michael's yarn, I'm going to take a look at it. I would say the pink color in the sorbet could be guava, for tropical fruit 🤷🏼♀️ Have a wonderful blessed day 🙏🏻💖
I wanted to comment & tell you you brighten my day, I suffer from depression & I feel much better after watching you . I think I share your attention decifit. I was able to complete a career in nursing before realizing i have problems completing task. Thank you Jennifer for you RUclips channel.
I never buy yarn that you have to lay flat for two reasons. First is I have NO WHERE to lay it out flat, the second is if I put it on the floor as a disabled person I would never be able to pick it up off the floor. LOL🤣🤣🤣
I totally agree with you about being able to put the same brand of certain yarn together in a project, and we as crafters(knitters/crocheters) can feel a difference in colors and colorways. But non-crafters won't notice it 😊. I thought as you were talking about them how long it's been since I've bought new yarn. I generally get lots (boxes and bags) from auction so... I have little need to buy yarn from stores. N my stash compares with RUclipsrs 🤓. Though I look n feel yarn in stores...
Those are all so pretty!! Makes me think of Spring and Summer. Yay! Today we have blue skies! Don't know how long it will last. Hope the weather there is allowing you to get out and get your vitamin D 😁 If it stays like this, I am going to try to get out for a walk myself😃 Hope all the Cinnamon Buns are doing well, you are all such nice people 💗
Laughing because I woke up early and was poking through the Michael’s app as well. I’m not a fan of the dang app because it kept not working to hit the back button (would take me back to the homepage instead of the sale yarn page) so then I ended up on the Premier website. Going from that to your video even though it wasn’t technically filmed today just made my chuckle. You know I’m a cotton fan so looking forward to giving some of this a go.
I'm with you on the bigger yarns. I can work with #5 (chunky of bulky weight), but #6 (super bulky) just pushes my arthritis beyond what I can handle. And just forget about the jumbo #7. My favorites are #1-3. I do a lot of shawls and cowls and socks in #1. I do shawls and cowls in #2 and #3, and I love to make baby blankets and tops in #3. I do blankets of all sorts and heavier sweaters in #4. Beanies are in all the weights - whatever I happrn to have on hand that strikes my fancy when the hat mood strikes. Fingerless gloves and mittens also get made in just about every weight yarn. Sorry for the ramble. It all started with the size question. Have a beautiful yarny day.
Good morning Jen. I bought some of this yarn from premier to make an amigurumi for my son,im so excited to hear that Michaels has a identical yarn. I'm definitely going to go buy some. Have a wonderful day ❤❤❤
Omg I love peaches, I love stones fruit in general. I definitely plan on buying this loops and threads yarn for car ride blankets, sofa throws and beach/picnic blankets. Maybe even a nice round table cloth for my kitchen
We go to Massanutten just about every other year. Possibly again this fall. And now I need to go to the craft reuse store…..😊 and the quilt museum this time.
I spent a chunk of time trying to compare content, price, color, all the things to have cotton yarns for wearables between you and 6 other you tube content creators coming up! I found basically same info. It depends on color preference and what discounts you can pull together! Coupons, come to me…
Hey there Jen, I like peaches but I don't like the fuzz on the skin, but you should try grilled peaches, oh they are delish!! you take fresh peaches, cute in half and remove the pit, place skin side up flat side on the grill, cook till desired tenderness, I like to get nice grill marks on them a med char so to speak, then put a little butter, brow sugar and cinnamon and serve. Yummy!!
Girl, I finally got my Ommi package in the mail and I got an empty tube. 🤦♀ But I think that happened to Lucas (from Lucas Yarns) too, so I'm thinking it might be a common problem, so I think I'll wait a few months for them to figure out how to stop that from happening and order another one then... 🤷♀ Also, I got an email from Michaels asking me to review the Loops and threads Impressions and I thought it was a mistake because I didn't remember buying that... Turns out I did, I just hadn't used it yet and I had it on my shelf and was thinking it was Puzzle yarn the whole time... hahaha So I used it and I think I might actually like it better! It's an actual 5 weight. I feel like Puzzle yarn is more of a 4.5 weight... but that's just me. haha
Yeah, puzzle yarn isn't fooling anyone about it being a true #5. Puzzle is a dupe of Lion brand tweed stripes, which is discontinued, I think. Pretty sure it was also considered a 5 weight, even though it clearly wasn't.
When my father had throat cancer he would send me to the store for sherbet. It was identical to that . Orange, lime, lemon and cherry. Very pastel but identical colors.
Problem with Michaels is that not all stores carry all yarns. AND there shipping is terrible. I hate getting my yarn in a box 3 times bigger than needed for my yarn and the yarn just thrown in the box, and the box not taped properly. With Premier my yarn is packaged properly and I didn't have to travel the world just to get the colorway I wanted.
I have a problem with Michael's customer service and i always need enough for a wearable so i usually need to order yarn so i think i would buy PREMIER, although it would be nice to have a variety of variegated.
The colors in the loops & threads are pretty but wrong section of the color wheel for my skin. Never have been able to wear yellows and many shades of orange. Kelly green is the only green I can be guaranteed to wear!
Our Michaels is not doing well. Only a car or two there. Our Joann’s gets more traffic. I like to go to our locally owned store and they always have 40% off one item. We also have a privately owned shop selling only high end yarn but usually a dollar cheaper then on line and of course no shipping. And then there is HLobby where I will never shop. ❤
Some say that you paid 3.49 because that is the second one for half off. So i still think you paid 5.25 per skein, effectively, not considering your credits. I really appreciate the other color options, though, and the convenience of having it locally available (potentially). But it is also ridiculous that a store brand dupe is more expensive than the name brand. That's just absurd on Michael's end. Sure, coupons. But they rarely have better than 20 percent these days (tragically) and you would need 30 percent to match the premier price. But, again, more color options and locally available. I would always buy enough online to get free shipping so the shipping isn't something i factor in. I'll do anything to avoid shipping fees. Lol I've only recently purchased some of the premier cotton fair bulky and i love it, despite it being a bit splitty. I love working from the center but this is just so much easier to work from the outside of the skein. I made a top down hat in linen stitch with the sunset variegated color and it is gorgeous. I also made a large pot holder in linen stitch and now another of the same hat but in a solid color. I'm excited about this new yarn option even if the Michael's pricing annoys me. The two percent cotton difference means that the higher acrylic content will feel a bit softer right off the skein but cotton softens up with washing and wear. Cotton is also a bit more dense which would explain why the one with less cotton feels a bit more drapey. I do really love some of those color options with the Michael's version. This would make an incredible blanket!
You keep losing weight and thicker yarns will be more comfortable. Peeled peaches are yummy without the fuzzy element canned peaches get a slime element to the texture. It is all about texture yet again!
Good Morning 🤗 if I can get to a Michael’s I will try that 🧶. Don’t have one that is easy to get to. Love you trying out making samples. Have a great day 🥰

Yeah I made a cute pull over from cotton and it pilled before I even put it in the washer.. I lay it flat to dry.

Both brands have pretty colors and look alike when you stitch them up. They definitely could be used together in a project. 🧶💜🙏🏻
Lorena Worsted from Ice yarns looks just like that. I love the Lorena lines from ice.
Very pretty yarns. I agree, Michaels is killin it this month! 🙂
They are literally sitting in my cart, waiting for a good coupon or reward! Thx, Jen! Love these dupe videos, thank you! 😊👍🧶

Hi Jen, Both are really pretty yarns.

I enjoyed your morning lessons on the differences in yarn.
Thanks for sharing, throughly enjoy! Have a blessed day!
Thanks, Jen. I don't understand why but lately I've been picking up a lot more cotton and cotton blend yarns. Both of these brands are very pretty!
Oooh cool comparison! I have some of the cotton fair! Planning to make one of your patterns with it 😊❤
Thank you for this review! Wouldn't have checked out this yarn otherwise 😂
Great comparison. Thanks

I know the feeling I also hate canned peaches. My favorite peaches are the fresh white ones. Although fresh fruit in general is delicious.
Pink grapefruit! 😄

A lacy top would be very beautiful out of either yarn
I think it would be nice for a beach bag and poncho for like if it's chilly after a swim.😊

Lion Brand had a Baby’s First yarn like that. I still have some. Now I can get some yarn to go with it. 😊
I will have to try it.
Hi Jen. I’ve been sick all week with a bad stomach flu. Will catch up this weekend with your videos. I’ve missed you.
Oh no! Feel better

Good morning Jen. Could these yarns be subbed in for the bulky Painterly you are using for the one wearable you designed for Premier Week?
The paintterly is a dk weight so no
Agree with wildflower. Joann's yarn is cheap but it looks cheep too. I don't like it as much.
Good morning Jennifer !☕🧶🦋
Good morning!
Good morning sunshine 🧶☕️😊
Good morning!
The colors in the loops & threads are pretty but wrong section of the color wheel for my skin. Never have been able to wear yellows and many shades of orange. Kelly green is the only green I can be guaranteed to wear!
Ok i have to admit that stitch definition is nicer with the Michaels.
Dental surgery went well, lol! Please don't cook the yarn or make me smile, LOL!
I thought I stood a chance of greeting you first or second today! Nope! I missed! Better luck sometime else!
Joan is the first almost every day!
