  • Victor Wembanyama just delivered a historic performance, notching 10 blocks and his first career triple-double as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Toronto Raptors. Having sustained this absurd level for two months, has he now surpassed LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Blake Griffin as the best rookie this century?

    People say he’s just tall.. so many freakishly tall players have gone through the nba. But he has the finess, agility, and reflexes to take advantage of that length. That’s what makes him different. Plus the mental game. The dude is mature beyond his years, with a killer instinct.

      Exactly. Your typical 7ft+ center is usually the slowest guy on the floor, can finish at the rim but you aren't giving them the ball to run the play. If they can shoot a 3 we call them a unicorn. Wemby plays basketball like his mom was a circus performer and his dad was a Harlem Globetrotter.

    "...the greatest physical outlier since Wilt" is so spot on. I made the same comparison a few games into the season, because it really does seem like we're all getting a chance to feel what it was like for basketball fans back then seeing Wilt play. Obviously Wemby is built a little more like KAJ, as Wilt is in the all-time NBA athlete conversation with Jordan, Lebron, Robinson, etc., while Wembanyama focuses more on flexibility like Kareem did. But it is a feeling of pure wonder to see someone that tall do things that constantly make you say, "wait, he did WHAT?"
    And I don't mean this as a downer, especially because his focus on flexibility and patient strength building combined with modern medicine give me reason to be optimistic about his health, but I want to remind anyone who sees this that nothing is promised. Teams who look built to be a dynasty can disintegrate in an off-season. An MVP can become a backup with one wrong step. Instead of saying "think how great he'll be in X years", try to enjoy everything that's happening now. That potential future will still be fun, just leave it where it is and recognize you're witnessing a historic season no matter what comes after.

    I feel like his questionablr decision making is directly linked to the quality of the team around him. Because that team is so poor, he probably has that added pressure of having to "be the man" and not trust his teammates as much as he should, leading to him trying to make plays he wouldn't if he had a better team around him

    You are right but I think the compare is not completely fair . 1. NBA today is very soft more easy to score mj had 28 + as a rocki but he didn’t play same position . He was better than shaq which was better example once again nba today is different . Amazing player Wemby it’s will be hard for him to dominant in a team with 2 more stars but he can bring a lot of rings

    Victor Wembanyama's impact on the game as a rookie is truly remarkable! His unique combination of height, skills, and athleticism has brought a fresh excitement to basketball. It's thrilling to see a new generation of players pushing the boundaries and evolving the sport. Wembanyama's presence on the court is a testament to how dynamic and diverse basketball talent has become in this century! 🏀✨

    Should have had Melos numbers up there. He actually did make a shit show better as a rookie. Robbery they gave ROTY to Lebron instead. Melo led in every category but assists, was more efficient, had more win shares and took his team to the playoffs

    • @Ometecuhtli
      @Ometecuhtli 4 месяца назад

      Not true, Lebron was a better defender from the beginning, more steals and blocks and more defensive win shares, and despite having more than twice as many assists than Melo only .5 more TOs per game. Better VORP, 2637 points generated (made and assisted) over Melo's 2215. Wembanyama certainly won't take his team to the playoffs but by your logic Chet is more deserving of ROTY.

    • @Ccann89
      @Ccann89 4 месяца назад

      @Ometecuhtli oh melo had an MVP candidate playing with him did he? Oh no he was already the best player on his team by a mile... Chet is arguably the 3rd best player on his team..... a rookie dragged a team to the playoffs in the harder conference but you still want to tear him down... the amount of work you put into that to find obscure numbers to favor lebron is both hilarious and deeply pathetic. Have fun with that

  • @morganlee2806

    The Spurs sucked last year, and they're even worse this year. Impact on your team is the single most important criteria for judging a player. I'm not blaming Wemby (that's honestly on Pop for seemingly taking the year off to let the team figure it out themselves) or saying he won't be a superstar or anything like that.
    However, when you factor in the clear impact some other great rookies (LeBron, Blake, Luka, etc.) had on their teams I just can't get on board with this. Empty numbers are one thing. Impact is what actually matters.

    Don't say the last century because larry bird took the celtics from 20 wins to 60 wins in the 20th century. Wemby has been a Stat king on a colossal loser team. And by the way, bird did this on equally mediocre team of castoffs and journeyman. I encourage anyone to google the 1979-80 celtic roster. The 2 other great celtic superstars, McHale and Parrish, did not arrive until bird's 2nd year.
