He is clearly better than Chet, if he was playing Center since the beginning of the season and had an MVP level point guard like SGA (Let’s say he had Trae Young or Haliburton)+ elite role players like Jalen Williams or Lu Dort (Let’s say he had Dorian Finney Smith and Herb Jones), then his team would have a similar record, probably even better.
Wemby is a much better defender, way more dominant and unguardable in the paint, way more versatile he is way better in transition, better as an off ball player, at cutting to the rim and things like that, and he is a better playmaker too, i mean he lead all the rookies in points, rebounds, steals and block, and i know he could lead in assists too if he started at the 5 with great players around him, right now he average 3 assists and he could easily average 2 more with better players around him, when you have a guy like Shai who can shoot from anywhere and is the most prolific driver in the league, and guys like J Dub and Dort who both shoot over 40% from 3 itseasy to get assists 🤷🏾‍♂️

Add in that Wemby leads all rookies in 4 of the 5 major stat categories, and you'll have a bunch of NBA folks asking themselves if they really want to give someone the trophy because their 3pt% is higher, or because SGA is better than Jeremy Sochan. The spurs weren’t and still aren’t trying to get Wemby easy baskets. When they actually have a competitive roster, the offense will obviously run through him and he will get the Tim Duncan treatment. This year, they are trying to get everyone touches for development and evaluation (who on this team fits well with Wemby) and being put in tougher decisions forces growth. Usually rookies don’t get to work on their game during the regular season because teams are trying to win with means rookies default to their current strengths. Spurs know exactly what they are doing.

The fact that people is trying to ignore Chet's lowlights kinda bothers me. For the average person that is following this "one v one", but doesn't watch full games but mostly highlights, it seems like Holmgren's still there on the top of list because they don't see any big mistake online. Mfs don't really hesitate to post a Wembanyama's 8 or 9 point game.
Holmgren's gonna come back for sure but he needs to step up a little bit if he wants this ROTY award, efficiency might not be enough to cover his ass because Frenchie-boy might start to drop 30/40 with 20 rebounds and 8 assists in a couple months a bit more constantly.

Wemby's midrange and longrange shots were very good last year in french league, even with lot of pressure from old and tricky players.
Even if the level in NBA is far more higher than in french league, I am wondering why his statistics in long and mid range shots are so poor this year (I was expecting 50/35 at least before his draft but he is less than 43/30).
Wemby has increased his weight by more than 10 kgs since the beginning of the season. I think that it could have hurt his shot's mecanic. He will need to adapt his shot to his "new body".
I hope that, when his weight will stabilize next year, he will increase dramatically his statistics in the longrange and midrange domain.
If so, it will be very hard to defend on Wemby !! Impatient to see him playing next year (and with a better Spurs' team than this year => please trade Vassel and Johnson !)

The size of the NBA courts compared to the French league is different. The French league courts are smaller compared to the NBA courts. I think the French league is under FIBA rules so they will follow the FIBA’s court dimensions. The size difference might have impacted his long-range shot because he’s not used to the distance between the arc and the rim yet. That’s why Pop just let Wemby familiarize himself in the NBA for the first 25 games. He let Wemby shoot all those 3s to get him acclimated. Sadly, his earlier 3P-shooting has affected his 3P%. But lately, Wemby’s FG% and 3P% has been trending upwards. KD and Bron has similar shooting splits with Wemby when they were rookies, and they’re fine. Wemby will be fine also. All he needs to do is keep on playing and improving his game and staying healthy.

The 3 points line is further, the field is bigger : he must adjust a little and in the beginning of the season he had no time for it. Now he tries less bad 3's and he is 30+ at 3's in his 10 last games. This will be better before the end of season. Anyway nobody can ask him to shoot like Curry.
