Not in the same league or realm, but you should look into Giant’s new Fathom 29. I just picked one up. It’s very comparable to the Specialized’s Fuse, which we also have. For the money, the Giant is hard to beat.
@@hardtailparty I bought it from Go-Ride in SLC. It's a small and they had two in stock...one blue and green. We got the green one because my daughter liked that color better...and so do I. :-D I'll be interested to see how the Crest fork does. Everything else is standards-based and can be easily upgraded. You can also run 27.5's on it.
I had a 1997 Yet ARC back in the day, the one with the Troy Lee graphics. I also put Mk1 Z1 Bombers, an Azonic Shorty stem and PDW riser bars on it, which at the time was sacrilegious, it was considered an XC bike not a 'downhill' bike. I rode it in the UK for a few years and then took it out to the French Alps where I rode it for ~5 seasons on the same trails my mates were riding on full-sus bikes. I swapped out components over that time obviously, plenty of drive train and a couple of wheels for example, but the frame was bombproof! These days it seems the ARC is competing with trail bikes like the Chameleon which to me seems a good fit, I'd definitely put it in the trail bike category, not "down country". Notes: I built mine with a Chris King headset and never had to touch it for the life of the bike (more than 10 years before I retired it to pub-bike status. It was unfortunately stolen shortly after, doh!) The BB shell was threaded so no worries there, swapped out the BB several times. Plenty of high quality carbon frames (like the Chameleon) have threaded BBs so I don't get why Yeti would spec push-fit, it would put me off buying one now TBH.
Man I'm going to have to look at this YETI a lot more. I like the head angle, the trails where I live are so up and down you never get a chance for a longer downhill experience, so you're on the climb constantly.
I am currently in the middle of building my first yeti, I’m finding out that once you unboxed the frame you quickly start realizing it’s way too nice to do a budget build. Looking forward to your review on this arc.

I recently changed my Norco Fluid HT from 120mm to 130mm. I feel confident that I've hit the travel sweet spot for trail riding on a hardtail. This Yeti bike is already 130mm so maybe Yeti think similar. Compressing a hardtail 140mm fork fully will result in a temporary head angle steepening by roughly 6.5 to 7 degrees. Yikes!

Beautiful bike. It seems like everyone always has to have the current model year though. So most people who buy the bike it'll be a temporary thing, like a rental. Would anyone here know a way to slacken a head tube angle on a bike? I have this 2016 Rockhopper I wanna fix up but am debating because the ht angle is 71 any ideas ?
There are headsets that can do that. I think it will get you one or two degree difference in the angle.. They don't work on all frames, however. I think Hardtail party did a video on it at some point, as well, if you want to check it out.
buy a fork with more travel or an "angleset" which replaces the headset with offset bearings. First option will also slacken out your seat angle, increase stack, (usually) reduce reach, raise your bottom bracket and change your top tube length - usually to the detriment of some climbing ability. Second option only works with some types of frames.
I am trying to create a down country hard tail 120mm fork should make it about 70 and I like my stack slammed for xc but the headset thing I am trying to order

Rental cost will be the difference between the price buying new and the price they sell it for after the current racing season's over. Then on to the 2022 models.
67 is twitchy, haha, try my 27.5 Storck Rebel7 at 70.5. Twitchy doesn't come close to describing the rapid direction changes. I love it on our narrow New England trails, but definitely an acquired taste.
Cnt wait for ur ride rview
Im 170cm, what size should I get ? Thank you in advanced ☺️
It’s aight! I’d rather to push a trek stache 9.7 they are beasts!
Can you ride and review a Whyte 909?
I've reached out to them many times. Unfortunately i haven't been able to convince them to send me one for review.
@@hardtailparty bummer dude
how do you like this compared to the chameleon?
Stay tuned for the onboard ride review.
Yep sexy bike, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I would love to ride a 25lbs bike again.
The difference between a 25lb bike and a 32lb bike is night and day. It feels like a different sport.
@@hardtailparty Yep true that. I do have 25lbs bikes but one is from the 90's and the other is a broken Ritchey P-29er.
Two things we need to save. Hardtails and manuals.
Thank you paired a more travel fork I think I might get to 68 which is my goal
buy a fork with more travel or an "angleset" which replaces the headset with offset bearings.
Tell us how that super-steep STA works on a hardtail!
The effective sta doesn't feel very steep at all. In fact, i feel like it needs to be steeper.
@@hardtailparty Intriguing. Like you I have a long torso/short legs. My current (very old) hardtail has a custom 72° STA and a long (for the time) TT to make it long enough for me. ARC looks awesome, but I had discounted it when I saw the STA. I'll be looking forward to your full review.
@@ArisaemaDracontium the sta doesn't feel as steep as it looks on paper. I wish it were steeper.
Seat tube angle is perfect. So is the HTA.
@@mwinner101 i disagree, but variety is the spice of life.
