The church bells are actually the bells of Big Ben the massive iconic clock tower next to the Houses of Parliament in London. The voices near the end are of people greeting each other early am in London 'morning guv'. Neil spent 2 years in early 70's in London before returning to Canada to eventually join Rush in late 1974 early 1975. I believe he auditioned to be the drummer for ELP whilst in England but Carl Palmer a very well known drummer at the time got the gig but it could have been Emerson Lake & Peart, thank god he did not get that gig!
@@compnnburns8831 well thank God for that indeed lol. And wow I did not know all of this, thank you, I am learning so much. 🤗
I'm not sure if he still owns it but Geddy did have an apartment in London and I'm not sure but I think I read that Alex also had property in London, Geddy does visit the UK a fair bit, he even did the Hadrians Wall walk not so long ago.
Part 1: I lived in New Jersey in the early 1970's. When I heard Camera Eye in 1981, instant flashback because it was the sound of trips to Manhattan I had experienced.
Part 2: In 1983, I sent on a job assignment to the UK. I did a bunch of weekends to London and The Camera Eye led me to places to adventure.
Part 3: my work moved downtown Toronto in 2023. Normally, I would take the train home, but I decided to take the Spadina streetcar north. On my journey, and voila, the building from Moving Pictures
@@JohnnyMegabyteCanada wow that's an incredible story! The song literally helped guide you through life. The first song and really the only one of theirs i remembered from childhood was Tom Sawyer. So good, over the years this has become my favorite song on Moving Pictures despite how many iconic Rush tunes there are on that album. There is a visualizer video of this song that pans through time lapsed New York and London street scenes both night and day that really gives you a feeling for these two great cities and brings the song even more pop. Red Sector A gets my vote from your list, have you done Natural Science or Xanadu yet? 😊

Moving Pictures started my life long love for RUSH. My older sister had me listen to it when it came out and I was instantly hooked. I then started to save my allowance to work on getting the back catalog beginning with the purchase of Hemispheres. I then begged my older brother for his copy of 2112 and he finally relented. That next Christmas, my parents got me Archives. The rest is history....... Oh, and you really need to hear this song on an original LP to really feel its aural depth.....
@@1teamski what an amazing experience you had. I think it must have been really cool to grow up during this time. I would absolutely LOVE to own the LP. Perhaps one day I can find one. CHEERS!
Love it! Keep up the great work, would like to see more reactions!
@@BrendaHughes-e6s thank you for the boost of confidence. You got it! 😁
This is one of my favorite Rush songs. It really paints a picture of two cities (New York and London). As a photographer, I would love to take photos in both of those cities someday! I especially love Geddy's vocal in this; it's so evocative. I have never understood the hate he gets for his voice. Granted, he was pretty shrieky in the 1970s, but so were a lot of other singers. In the 80s, I think Geddy really hit his stride vocally, singing in a lower register and more melodically. If you haven't yet reacted to a live Rush concert video, I highly recommend it. A great one is 'Xanadu' live from Exit Stage Left. You get to watch them tell a story with their instruments and vocals, and it's an amazing live performance.
That would be a dream come true (you being able to take those photos) and I would love to see them. Im an artist so I understand. And I think I will react to them live long as I can find the video lol
@@WhimsyMeadows I traveled to Paris during my junior year of college in January of 1999. It was the first (and so far, last) time I had ever flown anywhere. We studied the American writers who retreated to Paris from the U.S. in the early 1900s, known as the "Lost Generation." I was there for 3 weeks and took so many pictures, but I only had a film camera and not a lot of photography experience. I remember there was a digital countdown to the year 2000 on the Eiffel Tower. :) Someday I hope to go back with my digital camera and 25 years' photography experience since that first visit, so I can get better pictures! No doubt I love rush, I miss them more.
Good thing we have videos to help us remember
Nice reaction. Thanks for exploring Rush. I hope you're enjoying the journey as much as we are. You seem to be. The Camera Eye is considered a deep cut from Moving Pictures. But as the years have passed, it's become one of my favorites from this album. As a young musician, just learning to play guitar as a 13 year old, when I first heard Exit... Stage Left in 1982, I remember thinking I had never heard bass that bright, active, melodic and forward in the mix before. Immediately, I was a Geddy Lee fan. He introduced me to what was possible with bass guitar. A couple of years later, I discovered one of Geddy's early influences, Chris Squire, of Yes; and with that I was well on my way to becoming a student of the bass. The Camera Eye is two Acts (Act I is focused on NYC and Act II is focused on London) an interesting choice of two cities to compare and contrast. Neil's lyrical talents are on full display, the musicianship is unmatched and the end result is a stunning masterwork showcasing snapshots of daily life on the streets in two of the worlds largest, wealthiest, most powerful and influential cities.
I remember this coming out while I was in high school and had just gotten my driver's license...absolutely huge album!! I went out and bought the cassette immediately and ended up wearing out that cassette and the next 3 after that first one. I had discovered RUSH in 1980 and have listened to them ever sense. They are absolutely mind blowing!! Seen them 7 times in concert and every show was outstanding!!! Great reaction to "The Camera Eye". Treat yourself and find a RUclips of Rush playing this song live, your mind will be even more blown!! I just discovered your reaction channel and enjoyed it immensely!! May I recommend "Witch Hunt" off this same album. Have a terrific week!!

Great review and feeling you expressed for this utmost amazing epic. This song was truly their last "epic" song released (meaning any song over 8 minutes in length) until The Garden on their final studio album, Clockwork Angels. Notice the jackhammers and typewriters throughout all the underlying sound effects in the intro. I take this song as a "third person view" of both Manhattan and London, with the early morning coming and the busy work day, and the power one feels within their own reality and the reality they have to take on. The end is like the work day coming to a close, and then the evening coming, all to start another weekday tomorrow. Rush are most definitely a "visual" band, such as Pink Floyd and many progressive bands. All three musicians are amazing and the lyrics (by Peart) are brilliant. It hits to the heart, too. The Camera Eye is easily a Top 10 one for me! If you like this one, you need to listen to the ones from 2112 through Permenant Waves, as all four of those albums (A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres as well) have some awesome, incredible long epic songs! And Geddy sings just as good on those too. Notice Geddy's voice gets a little lower in the early to mid 80s, but around this time in 1981, he wasn't even in his prime vocally yet. And there is still over 30 years more of Rush music for you to explore after this album.
@@bpkelleyliveproductions i am truly enjoying the journey. Each song i hear just makes me fall deeper n deeper in love with Rush. Each song i try to listen to each note, each sound effect, each lyric as a whole. Amazing 👏

@@stratcat3216 i love every single note. All the instruments including the voice is Rush.
Hi there, 70 year-old Canadian here.
Yeah, at my age you'd be correct in assuming that the original-issue vinyls are in my collection. Nevertheless, while their studio recordings are great, Rush is quite unique in that their live performances are just as precise as the studio cuts but contain so much more power and "personality" that, overall, most connoisseurs prefer live cuts to the studio originals.
My *strong* recommendation would be to always, if possible, go for live video versions and have confidence that faithful fans will guide you to the "best ones!"
Trust me, you'll appreciate them (RUSH) even more when you see them pull off some of their more complex songs with all the energy of 20K + fans bouncing off their live power.
(You've done "Xanadu: Exit Stage Left" so I think you're ready for "YYZ: Live in RIO!")
@@EnerGeezerSquirrel so the next song ill be doing is Spirit of Radio. I found an animated version of the song. Should I react to that or see if I can find it live? I am trying not to look em up too much cause I want my reactions to be genuine
@@WhimsyMeadows HHHMMMmm...that's a tough one.
If you search for a song title along the lines of: "Rush: Between The Wheels Live" the list that appears will be quite long, but they should list in order of popularity. Usually, the top listings have 500K views or so, some over 1M, so the "really good ones" are easy to find. But as I said, don't worry too much about the technical quality: their live stuff is as "tight" as the studio work. it's the emotion we're after, after all. ;-)> (Just keep a hanky close if you haven't done "The Garden" from R40 yet...) Enjoy!
If you like the story telling aspect of songs try listening to Xandu, that song will take you on an amazing journey.
