I think this is the best Light they have ever played. It just takes on so many complex levels and changes. It is mind blowing. I will never get tired of listening to this jam, because each time, I find something new and interesting they do when they take their jams to different levels. Astounding. So excited for summer tour. Should get dates any day now.
Totally agree, I was at this 3 night run at Dick's (my ONLY Dick's shows to date), and although there were many high points that weekend most phans I talked to felt this was the absolute peak. To be honest, I was still getting aquatinted with this song back in 2012, I liked it right away, but didn't yet realize what a monster jam creator it is. The jam has so many twists and inspired changes that at least twice I was SURE they were going into another song only to discover that they were just exploring and improvising. I have a copy of this webcast on DVD and have researched ( listened) many times, often with friends and it has the same effect on otherrs as it did and still does on me! Like you said there's something new to find Everytime I listen to it! It goes without saying that after this Light, I sit up and take notice whenever it's played as it never fails to inspire the band to explore new territory. I also LOVE the lyrics!! "I'm left in the now with a wondrous glow..."
@@scottwolf497 dude yes!! 7.8.16 was insane!! Such an under rated show cuz the boys blew out the PA. give first set cities a listen too. trey blew a string then drops a funkbomb...
I am off into da ZONE....This is what you get when playing together for over 30 years with a focused vision and dedication (and the occasional detour...). Simply amazing playing from 4 masters. Jerry is definitely smiling from above...
they should do these really looong jams on a regular basis, they've been on fire this tour! can't even begin to put into words how thankful i am for phish, always loved what they were doing, but these jams are such a pleasure to listen to!
At different times, different songs have lent them selves well to opening up for really nice jams; Tweezer, Run away Jim ... as this tour comes to an end " Light " was the perfect vehicle
Love the Manteca-esque teases....this version as well as the one from SF are just incredible! Thank you Phish for an amazing tour...2012 = pure gold. You guys really outdid yourselves. :-)
One of my top all time favs (after the 8 minute mark). Just great, and I don't usually praise 3.0 jams like this :). Carini from 10/18/13 was pretty awesome too, just wish they had extended it.
How can they ever play Light again after this flawless version. Thanks for the perfect sounds and sights, the quality is awesome. Positive vibes. Good times. Good Health. Good music. Good Friends. Well Done.
A three night run for the ages! Welcome to the gates, my friends... the doors are open, all you have to do is show up and walk through. Phish at their absolute best! Is it my imagination, or is 2012 becoming the new 1997? Had someone said that to me two years ago I would have suggested council... and now.... pffffffffff... no words. Thank you universe for giving birth to a vehicle that can elevate our spirits to the heavens, then return us safely, forever saddled with burden to find those words.
The rail is infested with Trey bunnies who sway in the same way for 3 hours straight. They only put their hands up when Treys belly button is hanging out during First Tube
this isn't the type of stuff that's busted out at most newer shows. luckily I was able to have a taste of both worlds. I was also lucky to have been at this one, the whole set was great
It's called stepping outside the key. Seasoned jazz players do it all the time to keep things interesting. I can assure you Trey knew exactly what he was doing.
trey is a master of disonance and tension... he hits all those notes that make you squeal and when he finally resolves on the root note it is complete bliss
@markiss, what happened at 17:17 was Trey stopped playing the sped up Steam riff in the middle of the light jam and went back to playing rhythm guitar, letting the other guys step forward.
Me too! phish.net says it's a Mercy Mercy Mercy tease, which makes sense. I also thought we were going to go into The Moma Dance. My brother and I were there together, Page Side, clean and sober and fucking LOVING IT!
I think I've listened to this about 100 times since that night. I remember watching the webcast that night, and was kinda meh that Light came on. I definitely wasn't expecting this.
So I wonder if at 7:00 in when Mike sounds like he is trying to switch to the relative minor if nobody noticed or if they deliberately decided to wait and then that is what gave trey the idea to do the same switch at 16:00
***** At 6:57 Mike Gorden starts playing mainly 1 note which is the relative minor of whatever key they are in. He plays it for a while as if hoping that the rest of the band will catch on. Then at 16:00 or so trey holds the same note in a different key and the whole band changes keys (sort of) to the relative minor

10+ years later and still an absolute classic.
You would have to put this Sand>Light sequence from this show as a top 10 jam since they got back together in 2009. It's so damn good!
@@hugh-jasole it's so fuckin good. the years go by and i just keep coming back to it...
At 9:00 Mike took what was a good jam and decided to make it into a legendary jam. Happy 10 years to this monster.
This was the best Light ever! Can’t get no better
I love coming back to this after so many years and seeing my lightsaber swaying Page side rage side
Time loves a Hero 😉😎⭕⭕⭕
Can’t believe it’s almost been a decade since this masterpiece was given to us.
Facts! Time goes so fast
Your mother's absolutely astonished that so much time has passed and your still not calling her.
This is probably one if not the best Light of 3.0. This is such a Jam machine.
This is one of them for sure
this. is. FIRE. deserves a re-listen at least once a year.
One of my favorite jams of theirs ever. So good
More like once a week.
@@joshperkins2747 years later... still re-listening with regularity... its so damn good.

I love it,too. The version from 7.8.16 is magnificent as well. Very textured and melodic like this.

I know you said this a long time ago, but you gotta check out the Light from this years Dicks (2018). Never have I heard such a peak.
They are the best band on Earth
That's Right!!!!
Absolutely hands down the best
100%
No actually that would be Clutch but Phish comes in a close second...
This is really unbelievable stuff. 2012 was a distinctly innovative year for Phish
One of their best… 2015 was the last great year!
This song just keeps getting better every time I hear it. This is probably the best version I've heard yet. Long live Phish!!!
2nd Phish show. Took LSD-25, thought I died during this jam, fucking amazing.
gnar442 LOL hell yeah!
Wow yer cool brah!!

This is legit fire.

Still one of my favorite moments

I think this is, perhaps, the best 23:44 of music ever made.
So freaking killer, love this song and this jam.

10 years later and you never know if it’s gonna be a classic or a new song that they turn into a 20-30 minute monster jam😊

trey just killin it. fantastic show and amazing jam
one of my favorite jams.
Had to listen to this one a few times to really get it but now i'm totally hooked!
Never liked this song until I got it live 😮!
This jam will never get old. It's patient, exploratory, and has the big old hosedown towards the end.
So many incredible moments but for me the most replayable, druglike euphoria comes at the end. 22:46 and out gives me chills
Simply incredible! These guys are masters of their respective crafts.
Agreed! 😅
so many notable points in this, its unbelievable. but i think the whistle from 13:55-14:00 sums it up pretty nicely.
idk why but 15:40 is just such a cool shot of trey and the crowd
This is just amazing! The gospel riff with Trey layering his solo on top is mindblowing. I need to do some Dick's shows to to off this summer.
Amazing vibe starting around 14:35
Wow 😳
🙃
what a crazy spot..i've watched this numerous times and have never seen that haha love it
Wanted to hear this badly, THANK YOU PHISH!!!
this song, this show, this entire 3 night run is epic on so many levels, that i feel like throwing up all over myself.
All that you need to know about this jam, and about this band, occurs between 6:13 - 6:20.
As a Pisces I would have to disagree it all begins at the 00.00137695 Mark you're going to have to relisten
Love and light, bitches.

That Moment at 22:11 that we all live for.. you know the one ✨🍾🔥🙃
The power chords!!!! Worcester boogie gives me the chills every time.
Been on and off my go to jam since they played this, mostly due to the cowbell fill @ 14:07
That cowbell is perfect
Ian Krivoruk that’s a first
Mike scarf days equals excellent thoughtful jams❤😊
Best jam of 3.0
do you still think that now? after 5 more years of shows?
I personally think it's still up there with some of the best. Definitely the best Light ever imo.
BAGAKOOS magnaball tweezer>caspian
It's certainly one of the best of 3.0, there's two other jams from this same weekend that are at least as good (Undermind and Sand).
Simple at Dicks 2014. There's better jams in 4.0 now, though.
Yess greatest light I've heard
incredible how they bounce sound off eachother.
The jam in this insane.

Light indeed. Epic jam.
