Stephen Chow is the only Director I know who managed to put Action, Martial Arts, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Romance, Fantasy and Crime, in this one film. Movies generally stick with 3-4 genres. But this one was way ahead of its time since 2004 even today it's an absolute masterpiece.
What makes this scene so powerful is that it shows both him being good in the past and being bad in present, a person who wanted to live a good life by helping other people, only to notice that when he tried, he ended up failing when encountering bad people, so he thought the only way to achieve success was to become a bad person just like the bullies, and whenever he tried being bad, there was always that one thing that prevented him from being bad.
Another thing I loved about this part was the music fitting in perfectly with each scene.
2:24 you can sense the vibe of the music getting closer as the mute girl tries to communicate to him asking if he remembers her in the past.
3:29 you can see from her childhood hand holding the lollipop transitioning into the present, and the music fits in perfectly which makes this scene hit so hard.
4:10 you can feel the beat drop the moment after he grabs the drink, and his buddy runs away.
Hit the nail on the head!!

Oh my memories. It came back after watching this clip. When I was a kid watching this movie other kid pee on him I feel really bad. And still today I got back that same feeling. We first see the story from his perspective but here we see it from hers and it only emphasizes how heroic he was to be beaten for a complete stranger. 💔
When music play, really hit my heart
Most of us are just ordinary people surviving in this crucial world. We are not perfect nor remarkable, but we can choose to keep our lollipop for people who helped us, and we fight back with tiny wood stick even with our last strength. The metaphor of life is the best part of this movie.
This lady was a crush of mines as a kid. This movie was and is awesome.
This is such a 'balanced' movie and story and such a happy ending.

1:20 that is such a great scene ! Everything. The actors faces, including the little girl, the way it was shot, (movie poster not needed) the music adds greatly to it too! The peeing is a bit much but different culture. The whole movie is very entertaining. Chow did well in every aspect.

This is the perfect movie that demonstrates the effects of TOXIC SHAME on a person. He was shamed for being too weak to protect the girl he wanted. He spent a lifetime ignoring the weak child he actually was an building a false-self out of who he wanted to be. Only in the end of the movie to releasing that and becoming the weak boy again in order to have the relationship he always wanted.
He didn't want the girl, he was just eager to help because of how he learned martial arts
