  • Here we have Stuart Burrows Singing an extremely well loved song form Wales, 'Myfanwy'. Performed during his 'Around the World Series' from 1985, it is simply wonderful. I know you'll certainly enjoy listening to this beautiful song.

      Taught my brothers at Bargoed boys South Street, he was such a kind man. I was in the girls separate building next door...Great schools

      I believe he also taught art in Bargoed North School in Llancayo Street. I left that school in either 1959 or 1960. I believe that the school has been demolished and now is houses. He is certainly a very excellent tenor.

    Probably the most underrated tenor of the past half-century! Wondrful range, tone and, as it so happens, a hell of a nice guy too! Brilliant Tenor!

      I don't think he was underrated in the operatic world. He sang in most of the great houses and made numerous recordings. He was considered by many to be the finest Mozart tenor of his time and was generally highly admired.

      @@tonyashbridge2910 I totally agree. A voice in a million with the musicianship to go with it. Not everything the recording companies pressed him to sing really suited him but most of the time he was unsurpassable. I've so many very happy memories of his glorious singing. Thank you Stuart - an artist and a gent.

      I couldn't agree more DRAIG4444, those who voted down wouldn't know a beautiful voice if it hit them in the head... Probably jealousy or similar, maybe they just can't accept the realization that they can't sing at all.. Thank you so much for appreciating this fine voice by this lovely man.

      We had a correspondence a time with the owners of the bed and breakfast in Llanddudno. Zo special and Nice people. Unfortennely the man passed away in 2021....but we met them december a couple of years ago as they the have visit the Netherlands.

      I'm so pleased you enjoy Stuarts magnificent voice. He is now 90 and I understand he enjoys his retirement, and spends a great deal of wonderful time with his family in Wales. He is, and always will be my favourite Tenor, with the most wonderful voice, that we are all able to continue to listen to from these videos and all the marvellous recordings we have, for many years to come.     Sad that all this beautiful music has mostly vanished. Just vanished into thin air. In most cases replaced by 'garbage'.

    Stuart Burrows is a beautiful singer. First time I heard him sing was in my home town of Wales a long time ago and my Great Uncle was playing the organ for him.

    A beautiful song of unrequited love sung by one of the greatest (and underrated) singers. He is living in St Fagans near Cardiff and doesn't have the greatest health!

    Hi Graham- I once sang Myfanwy myself in Parry's home- in a version of my " Irish Welsh".
    A pale imitation of the great Burrows!! His songs with piano accompaniment really show the pure sound of the man even better than thosw with orchestra!

    Thank you for posting these wonderful performances of Stuart Burrows. I discovered him some years ago searching the record shops LP collections of John McCormack. I came across Stuart's 3 volume set done for Decca and fell in love with his singing immediately! Magnificent!

    Beautiful rendition - I remember seeing Stuart and his son occassionally having a Sunday pint at the Quarry Inn Fairwater many years ago. He always smiled at everyone, seemed a very nice man RIP

      I agree, It is beautiful isn't it, Stuart is, and I reckon, always will be my favourite Tenor. By the way, I am a little confused with you writing RIP. it makes me think you might believe he is no longer with us, but I am so happy to say, he is, thank God. It will be a very, very sad day for me should this occur. Thank you so much for your kind comment though, I've never had the pleasure of meeting him, but it's wonderful to know that you did, and that he always smiled at people, and is a kind man, with a beautiful voice. 😊

I only wish I had met him, I love him so much, his voice gives me so much pleasure, and I find his wonderful phrasing and everything about his singing very moving. I only wish that they would repeat the 'Stuart Burrows Sings' series shown in the early 80's. I know it would be so welcome in these dark days. Anyway, thanks again. x

    Can anyone help me, was this song sung in movie How Green Was My Valley? Love the Welsh singing from individuals to choirs, Boys Alone singing brings tears to my eyes. Loved the time in 1978 that I spent in Wakes, mainly Gwynedd, and hiking thru Snowdonia, thanks for any help on song, it happens when the miners finish work and stand outside a house and sing a song for the mother of the family

    Watched Aled Jones at 50 tonight on TV and Simon (Stuart!! As Draig4444 corrected me on 😏) Burrows was featured which brought me here - A truly fine singer which I’m sure the Welsh people are very proud of, it being a nation of proud singing tradition with a beautiful language to go with...👍 Us Irish have Frank Patterson and John McCormack to be proud of...We have a lovely language too which is not as widely spoken today for reasons best explained another day...you won’t find it in any English history books…

    I don't have a drop of Welsh blood and I don't understand a word of Welsh, but this performance left me a total mess. Stuart Burrows - a truly great singer. What is it about the Welsh and beautiful singing?

    I am not Welsh, so I do not understand the empathy in the meaning of the Welsh songs. I loved his great tenor voice in "Abide with Me."

      Funny you should say that. He says of all the things he recorded, the version of Abide with me with the Ambrosian Singers was the 2nd best thing he ever sang [[He's my Dad - 90 on Tuesday]. It was also his Fathers Fav song.

      And in particular - the phrase " Hallowed beeeeeee" where he pulls it right back.
