I’m so very proud to call this man my grandfather. Unfortunately I never got the chance to meet him but he lives on in our hearts through his genius as I hope to carry his legacy through my own music. Caru ti Dadcu
I first heard this song in a local nursing home performed by a man on a keyboard for an elderly beautiful lady who resided there I sang her Corrina Corrina I will always remember that dear lady ❤
I remember Mr Davies as a teacher at my primary school in Shirley, Croydon. Ryan was a Welsh wizard...a musician, singer, comedian...he produced our musical plays & organised football & cricket...all in English...though he often broke out in Welsh to our headmaster Mr Lewis. I was amazed to hear such a confusion of sounds to my 'sais' ears! Ryan was a very great human being...inspirational...& was so kind to my epileptic brother. A real Welsh saint...who lives in my memory.
I'm a Welsh-American in the coal regions of eastern Pennsylvania, and I know these songs well. We sang them in church every St.Davids Day. Sadly, this generation no longer embraces this beautiful music.
Absolutely Brian. My wife came out to South Africa from Wales in 1957, married me and went back twice. She passed on in 2017 and this song brings tears to my eyes every time.
Back in the day, this estimable gentleman was a MEGA STAR. My mother was a massive fan, and she met him at The Top Rank in Swansea, where he was performing. She cherished the photograph he signed, " To Avril, all my love, Ryan ". It had pride of place on the sideboard, being dusted every day, until the day she died. I saw him live in Pontardulais, and he was magnificent. RIP Ryan bach.
I was lucky enough to meet Ryan on a few occasions, as my father knew his family from their common upbringing in the Cwmgors/Glanaman area. A marvelous, warm, intelligent and naturally funny man.
What a beautiful voice he was an amazing comedian i was privileged to see him many times his son is also a brilliant actor he plays Mark in the Welsh soap called Pobol y cam i watch it every week on Sunday with subtitles I’m ashamed to say that I’m Welsh but I can’t speak Welsh it’s the best show on the television
I was 4 years old 1st July 1966, and was told of the huge sadness of 21st October. I still remenber the feeling of loss of kids like me, and still to this day feel the loss of a generation. Mefanwy is a love song, but one of sadness that brings the Sadness of that day to many. I'm a 61 year old Englishman, but Ryan still leaves me watery eyed. A phrase used many times, but lest we forget. God bless the innocents lost that day and God bless you Ryan 😪💔 🏴
Thank-you. Of all Welsh songs, Myfanwy has always been my favourite, ever since first hearing it in the 1960's. Such a shame that Ryan's life was cut so short.
I was born and bred in Cardigan, now in my seventies, I well remember watching Ronnie and Ryan, brilliant pair! Ryan was one of the funniest and multi talented men ever. My favourite sketches were the ones with Phyllis Doris, light of my life!
As a small child living just outside Newport , I would watch Ryan and Ronnie. It was in Welsh. I couldn't understand what they said , yet I laughed because they were funny. Later , they spoke in English and they still made me laugh . I was a teenager when Ryan died. I truly believe that the world is a sadder place for his passing . God knows best however, and I put my trust in him. Ryan sings this incredibly well.
That is just wonderful . Most evenings I sit with radio 6 playing in the background . Never let's me down because the patience rewards me with an outstanding tune or song.
I didn’t know this man existed until yesterday.. I’m a welsh man living abroad.. my surname is Davies and I named my son Ryan!! I accidentally named him after a proper welsh legend!! Happy my son has the exact same name as him🏴
My Dad was at school with Ryan, later when i was a youngster my Mum & Dad and i met him at Llangollen Eisteddfod. Dad said afterwards that he was still the old Ryan he had been in School with. Just a nice down to earth man.
I was at the Manics Cardiff Castle show in 2015, a very emotional show for me for many reasons, before it started they played Jungleland by Bruce Springsteen, I wanna be sedated by the Ramones and this by Ryan Davies. It was incredible, I turned to the girl I was with and said, I can't think of anywhere else in the world where those three songs would turn up on a pre-show playlist. I balled my eyes out before the show even started!
I loved this song since first hearing it in How Green Was My Valley. This is the first time hearing of this wonderful Welsh singer. His voice is a gift from God, truly beautiful. Thank you for uploading this. From Australia.
There will never be anyone who can sing Myfanwy better than Ryan . Malcolm Buck sings it brilliantly but Ryan has that certain edge in my mind by which I mean brings the lump to the throat and watery eyes. Tra ma y gàn yma dal yn gael ei chanu neith neb anghofio Ryan.
I am Scottish and love this song, I often listen to other versions, however I am always pulled back to this version sung by Ryan and I dont think I have ever heard it sung by anyone else with such passion and feeling, for me his version cannot be beaten it is a beautiful rendition of a lovely song
I discovered Ryan on another channel some years ago. His talent is broad and ingenious and his personality endearing. An evening with him on youtube is all we can have now sadly but so apprecisted.
Has a English man with my family roots in Wales last name Vaughan love this so much when ever I go to Wales on the a44 at floodgates there's a sign welcome to Wales its like coming home
I'm an English pensioner who came across this song several years ago. I love the melody, and when sung in Welsh I have to treat the vocals as another instrument. However, I have seen an English translation, and of course it is a sad song. I've heard many versions of the song, and usually sung quite well, but this version with Ryan Davies' vocals conveys the 'soul' of the words by far the best of any versions I can recall. : - {
Composed by a Merthyr boy who was as proud of where he came from as the pride that Merthyr people are of him...where he went in the world he always said....a little boy from Merthyr always..always
He hasn't the greatest voice but more than makes up for it with the passion, the hwyl he displays, with that crystal clear enunciation of the lyrics it makes for a wonderful rendition of this beautiful song. A multi-talented man, his death when so young was a great loss for all in Wales.
Interesting comment Rhiannon, I suppose we're all different but to me I would rate that as THE best rendition I have ever heard, bar none. To me his voice is silky smooth and utterly beautiful. Maybe you are speaking technically and if so I'm not qualified to argue that point, but for me that was the complete performance. God bless.
My grandmother was named Myfanwy, people called her Vano. This song was played at her funeral and at the time I thought... I'd like to learn the words to this. In the summer of 2019 I listened to almost every rendition of it on youtube and wrote the words out on an A4 sheet. I listened to the singing while reading back the words probably 100s of times. Even after not thinking about it for months and months I can still remember the words. Just wish i could sing ! Haha
I too, feel that this is the absolute, best version of this song & I have heard a lot of really good ones. The only other one that I feel that comes anywhere near Ryan' version, is the one, where the Miners sing it in How Green Is My Valley. I learnt the words, in Welsh of course, to the Ryan' version & sang it to my Girlfriend (no music), whilst holding her gently in my arms...she is Australian & didn't understand the words, but felt the passion, had tears in her eyes & held me closer...but absolutely loved it (and we are no spring chickens) :) I am about to start carving a Welsh Love Spoon for her & planning to sing this song again to her, as I present the finished Welsh Love Spoon to her, then formerly, ask her to become my Wife.

Genius. 100%. I was born in the year he passed. But I, like others, have a tremendous respect for the comedic and musical genius which Ryan Davies is.
I remember him so well he was a genius , you have a wonderful heritage ❤

He’s is a legends , with so much talent. Sorely missed.
Played this at my dads funeral in January this year, It was a tribute to my mother and fathers life together..xxxx
I'm a Welsh-American in the coal regions of eastern Pennsylvania, and I know these songs well. We sang them in church every St.Davids Day. Sadly, this generation no longer embraces this beautiful music.
The greatest love song ever written, by Wales’ greatest ever all-round entertainer. This is THE version, thank you. Diolch yn fawr iawn. 🏴
I just get goose pimples listening to his wonderful voice. Passed away far too young. RIP Ryan Davies. ❤️
If this beautiful song sung by Ryan does not bring tears to your eyes then nothing on this earth ever will
Absolutely Brian. My wife came out to South Africa from Wales in 1957, married me and went back twice. She passed on in 2017 and this song brings tears to my eyes every time.
It just has
As an Englishman that now lives in Wales, and with Welsh heritage, this song brings my long gone family back to me. Makes me so proud xxx

The saddest word in this beautiful love song: Ffarwel.
Perfectly sung reminds me of my dad who I’ve just lost
What a voice. What a man. He’s just fabulous.

only someone in love could write a song like this.

10000%agree. No souls.
Why click on it in the first place if it says on the title what it is
The captions are hilarious. Agreed on the most beautiful love song, beautifully sung.
@@jesslowe4499 Philistines everywhere. Poor souls.

Apart from TV I saw this great man in panto in Brynamman when I was a child. Diolch Ryan!

My grandparents had this at both of their funerals , I love the song but breaks my heart every time 😢
This song was a favourite of my late husband. I wish he had heard this version. The best and I have only just discovered it.
There will never be anyone who can sing Myfanwy better than Ryan .

@@jondavies8990 Thanks Jon I have heard the Malcom Buck version good it is but I dont think it is anywhere near as good as Ryans
