There will never be anyone better than the great Ritchie Benaud - always impartial even if he was an Aussie!!
Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton, Ravi Shasthri, Ian Smith, Ian Chappel, Tony Greig, Harsha Bhogle, Mark Nicholas, David Gower, Michael Holding, David Lloyd, Pommie Mbangwa, Shane Warne, Greame Swann
Akash Chopra >>>>>>>all
A very good topic that is not discussed as often as it should deserve.
More of these please!
Richie Benaud host
David Lloyd ( though he’s on the programme 😜)
Ian Chappel, Tony Greig, Ian Bishop, Dinesh Karthik ( very new but very valuable cricketing inputs), Bill Lawry (loved his excited voice) and Mike Atherton.
In order of priority for tv Richie Benaud,Tony Grieg,Tony Cozier,David Gower,Ian Bishop,(use simplier words sometimes malapropism is alive well) Nassar Hosein (tremendous knowledge of the game but too partial to England) Ponting (very impartial he calls it as he seesi it) and Michael Holding
No way can you have this list without the late great Tony Cozier- the best commentator we ever produced, and the voice of Windies cricket!
Great shout!
😂
Mark Nicholas is probably the best voice behind the mic that i've heard !
Mike haseman
Ian Bishop
Quick too quick, Johnson is a destroyer! South Africa are in disarray! 🔥
Exactly! Mark Nicholas is like Peter Drury. He was phenomenal in EA Sport 07 !
Mark Nicolas is pure vomit ! Smugness personified
Michal atherton and Naseer Hussain two last commenter from golden generation
Benaud has to be the greatest.. impartial, authoritative, witty. Just great.
Novjot Singh Sidhu, Tony Gregg and Geoffery Boycott 😅
- would be a cracker !
🤣
"Tony Cozier" was one of my favorites. RIP.
Surprised that no one mentioned Robin Jackman. He was Gold - especially in moments when Sachin was batting - example 2003 WC India vs Pak.
my own favourite was John Arlott and Brian Johnstone
What they're saying about Bishy and Tony Greig is soo true.
Our Indian commentators say they eat, drink and sleep cricket but they're hardly interested in first class cricket outside India. If you're a genuine cricket nerd, you'll always appreciate talent and do your homework to know more about the game.
Sadly, Indian broadcasters aren't interested in doing any homework because they know that as long as they toe the BCCI line and sing praises of Indian talent on show during a game, they don't need to work any harder than that. Their paycheque is sorted.
A team of akash chopra, Irfan pathan, Sanjay manjrekar, deep das Gupta, gavaskar & murli kartik can cause severe earing problems wich may lead to permanent damage
Why Sunil Gavaskar not retiring from commentary
@@thecricketfanofficial8092 nobody retires in Indian cricket unless they are kicked out
@@amitm2692 agree
@@amitm2692Simon Katich is terrible as well.
It is just the remnants of the Colonial mindset that is biasing you against India commentators. Why are you applying a western template to Indian commentators? Indians don't need to provide commentaty like English and Australian commentators!
How can you not even mention Tony Cozier on this!?
Same reason they don’t mention Henry Blofeld, Christopher Martin-Jenkins, John Arlott, Fred Trueman, Jim Maxwell or Jonathan Agnew
@@CricketEngland predominantly radio commentators? Cozier did plenty of TV.
@@YousufD-Acreaseradio is best
@@CricketEnglandteam being made was supposed to do TV commentary so obviously they were not discussed
Isa Guha is fantastic, in years to come I predict she’ll be in the same class as Benaud. Both beautiful souls who love the game to pieces.
No indian commentator pls. As an indian i m saying that 🙏🏻🙂. U can think of ravi shastri for once....but REST ALL HAVE BECOME SOCIAL MEDIA PUPPETS...THEY HAVE OPINIONS ON THE BASIS OF SOCIAL MEDIA chit-chats ... rather than UNDERSTANDING OF THE GAME!!
All are good except a few
Exactly. L Siva though was good but he didn't speak the BCCI language
As an Indian our commentators sucks
Pls retire Gavaskar please😂.and DK find something else to do..
@@Nothing-kr5hn he was among the worst
Dream team: Richie, Chappelli, Tony, Nicolas, Nasser, Shastri, Warnie, Ponting
Nightmare team: LS, Murali Karthik, Manjrekar, Aakash Chopra, Deep Das Gupta, Anjum
Manjrekar is good. Also add Wilkins to Dream team
All nightmare commentators are from India. That should say something.
@@PrakharGupta36 yes, courtesy Star Sports
@@pratikjoshi7539 Used to be good. Lately he is full of crap
Add Ajit Agarkar to the Nightmare Team.Although his commentary stint was short. My god it was one of the most boring commentary I've ever heard . A mute person could've have given good commentary than Agarkar
My Dream Team-
Host - Harsha Bhogle
Commentators-
Tony Greig
Ian Bishap
Ravi Shastri
Alan Wilkins
Mark Nicholas
Rubbish
You can’t beat the likes of John Arlot, Jonathan Agnew, Fred Trueman, Brian Johnson, Jim Maxwell, Ritchie Benaud, Henry Blofeld and Christopher Martin-Jenkins
@@CricketEngland From Your Opinion. ..
You can not dictate others opinion. .& the names you mentioned hardly any one knows about them...Grow Up...
@@pratiknangare2370 hardly anyone know about them, probably more like you don’t know about them but anyone who know cricket on the radio on TMS or ABC in Australia or anyone that’s followed the Ashes over the years will certainly know who they are and it doesn’t matter they are still better commentators that any one from today.
After all it so much harder to do radio commentary than TV commentary in any sport as you have to paint more of a picture rather that just the odd word every few mins on the TV.
Most TV commentators would find it extremely difficult to adjust to doing radio commentary
These commentators are legends of the sport.
That is a cool list bro❤
Harsha Bhogle😂😂😂😂😂
Anyone heard of Henry Blofeld? 😊
That was an amazing voice. ❤
I love this Kimberification of talkSPORT!
Kinda don't like him he thinks he knows everything and want his point across even if its the other persons personal preference and he wants to disagree for the hellll of it
Surprised no one mentions harsha . The love and passion he has for cricket is matched by no one
I don't think he has the 'It' voice like Ravi Shastri.
One of the best descriptive commentators ever..the best India has produced
moreover in a place like India, he has the advantage of being multi lingual. Coming from Hyderababd (I think) his Urdu is a cut above what they call Hindi. Pakistanis also can appreciate his cultured Urdu. His English is flawless.
@@Specter45909 Commentary is not just about voice imo. By that logic, Michael Holding would be the greatest commentator
😂
Not a mention of Harsha Bhogle??
No mention of Blofield for comedy, he was up there
@@noelperies8406 Henry Blofeld always talks about women's ear rings especially in Sharjah stadium in the late 1980s
Henry Blofield ❤
Yes nobody can forget him! Absolute legend! Had his unique and unmatched style, probably the best amongst his contemporaries!
Ian Smith.
Mark Nicholas.
Ian Bishop.
Richie Benaud.
David Lloyd.
Bill Lawry.
Wow that's a formidable cricket commentary team.
Talk about the present not the bygones - amongst the current commentators who have kept alive the rich legacy of the golden days of commentary is Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton none other . It's sad that the exceptional Mike Holding isn't doing commentary anymore 😢
I also love Mark Nicholas.
L
Mark Nicholson and Ian Bishop
Wow Hussain atherton and Nicholson are 3 of the worst commentators ever
Bishop, Shastri, Bhogle there are many more, you're just not listening right. Also, there are many amazing commentators in different languages you can't even understands.
Richie Benaud , end of discussion, never said too much , if he read the phone book out loud you would be hanging on his every word.
You forgot John Arlot, Jonathan Agnew, Fred Trueman, Brian Johnson, Jim Maxwell, Henry Blofeld and Christopher Martin-Jenkins
They would run rings around any other commentators past or present
Australia: Bill Lawry, Ian Chappel
India: Ravi Shastri
WI: Tony Cozier
Pakistan: Ramiz Raja
England: Paul Allott, Geoffrey Boycott, David Lloyd
South Africa: Barry Richards, Robin Jackman, Tony Greig
NZ: Ian Smith
Underrated\Honorable Mentions: Mike Haysman, Danny Morrison, Pommie, Michael Slater, David Hookes, Dean Jones, Bob Willis.
Akash Chopra >>>>>>>all
How has the magnificent Ian Smith been omitted
Agreed
It's a really good idea to take a long reflection that millions of people in many nations, worldwide, listened to Cricket matches, never viewed them! And innumerable short wave radio conversations, spanned across decades, and oceans, were engaging dialogues about Cricket!
It’s not a sensible list if the number one slot is not taken by John Arlott.
Bill lawary riche bennuad tony Greg robin jackman tony coizer ian smith ian bishop ravi shahstri harsha bhogle nasser hussain
No mention of John Arlott? Sacrilege. The voice of English cricket.
Kerry O'Keeffe or Phil Tufnell for comic relief.
For modern hosts/commentators and being with the times - i absolutely love Isa Guha. I think she is absolutely fantastic on the broadcast and is a true sign of a modern female commentator who i think doesnt cause the controversy of particularly her football equivalents. Has the right tools, sense of humour, experience ans knowledge of the game to be considered for the modern age.
I didn't like Ricky Ponting growing up but he has become excellent commentator. Loved his views and analysis on the game. No wonder he was great Captain and player as well. Nasser Hussain and Ian Bishop are my favourite Commentators right now.
I really enjoyed listening to Kumar Sangakkarra this summer he gives a very good insight
This is purely a personal preference exercise, how can any of us evaluate the commentating merits of the candidates.
Leaving aside the classic TMS legends and sticking to tv commentators this would be my six plus host.
Host - Richie Benaud
Michael Holding
David Lloyd
Nasser Hussain
Ravi Shastri
Mike Atherton
Kumar Sangakarra
Shane Warne would be close as would Michael Vaughan who is not everyone’s cup of tea, but he knows his stuff.
All good fun but it only reflects our own tastes at the end of the day.
Allan McGvilray was an excellent commentator.
My commentating XI
1. Ian Bishop
2. Pommy Mbangwa
3. Ian Smith
4. Ravi Shastri
5. Mark Nicholas
6. Mike Haysman
7. Mark Taylor
8. Harsha Bhogle
9. Danny Morrison
10. Nasser Hussain
11. Mel Jones
Natalie Germanos over Mel Jones. Isa Guha is brilliant too. I personally don't like Mbangwa's commentary at all.
Mbangwa is too biased and always seems like he is pleading for a good thing to happen for South Africa. But as we all know nothing happens as we always choke at the right time of every tournament 😈😈😭😭🤣
Peter West to host. Benaud and Laker, because i grew up with them. Aggers - because! Mark Nicholas, Warnie and Michael " ronnnzzzz" Holding.

No one can replace the commentary of the legend Tony cozierwe really miss him
Hindi commentary is at its lowest currently, first and foremost problem is the command on the language and pronunciation, which many hindi commentators lack, i mean they are from all over india, many from the parts where hindi is not the spoken language and then they are invited in hindi commentary. For example Anil kumble, VVS Laxman, Ravi shastri( he is terrific in English). Then who are from hindi speaking area lack with language skills and pronunciation like shewag, RP singh who struggles with words having the hindi letter 'श' which he pronounses as 'स', apart from him kaif also is not good with his language, it is hard to understand what he is saying.
Siddhu used to be good, happy that he is back in world cup and another is aakash chopra who is good.
And the most important point of all that during 80% of the game they only talk about india and the days that they used to play. It's really irritating, i mean guys yes we love india but that doesn't mean you keep talking about india while match is going on between south Africa and sri Lanka. This is a major problem. Even my dad who doesn't understand English fully gets irritated quite often and switches to English from Hindi.
Ian smith
My favourites are David Gower and David Lloyd and Pommie Mbangwa❤

BLOWERS!
Mix of Countries and formats TV/Radio: The greatest, not even close, any list without him is wrong.- Benaud.
Then Arlott (Greatest radio)
Nicholas, Cozier, Holding, Greig, Boycott, IDS Smith .
Humorous pair: Tufnell and Warne.
Ladies: Guha and ERB.
I quite like Mel Jones, Isa Guha, Ebony Rainford, Lisa Stalakhar. These ladies are wonderful and great addition to the normally male dominated Cricket commentary team for so long. Besides being great to look at. There have been women cricket commentaters and journalists before. But its only last 10 years or so they have been given equal footing with the men and that has come in the last 20 years women's cricket being appreciated more and more equal to the men. Similar to tennis which has always had equal men and women representation and recognition. Football has been going in same direction ever since 1991 when U.S. women dominated football or soccer. In UK 20 years ago we saw movies like Bend it like Beckam promoting womens soccer in the UK where previous was a very macho male only bastion. .In UK I quite like Alex Scott a very good commentator in football and has none of the parochialism that the English male football commenators have these days. Alex Scott is a breadth of fresh air. So yes the ladies have now become one of my favourite cricket commenters.
Geoff Boycott, Tony Zha Greg, Ian Smith, Harsha Bhogle, Mike Hayson, Mike holding (gold accent), Ian Bishop.
I am Indian and I put my hand up first to say it is Nass and Arthers, especially together! I cannot believe Harsha Bhogle wins every survey. He is a nice guy. But absolutely no stuff.
Richie Benaud, Bill Lawry, Ravi Shastri, Ian Chappell, Shane Warne and Michael Atherton. What’s common about all these commentators, they call it right down the middle!

Ravi Shastri
I’d probably add Bill Lawry as well
Tony, Bill, Ian , Tony cozier and Richie were the best.
Ravi is the among the best nowadays.
Other Indians are horrible including Gavaskar.
Most entertaining commentator ever was Boycott, even though his analysis was basically of cricket from uncovered pitches in the 1960s.
Best commentator was Tony Greig period Then Geoffrey Boycott, Ian Chappell, Harsha Bogle
Worst commentary team. Morrison, Howard, Pommie, Cook, Brayshaw and Slater.
David lyoyd,Nasser Hussain,Mark Nicholas,Ravi Shastri,Ian bishop,Ian Smith,Mel Jones
Only the eloquent, most knowledgeable, and the greatest ever Test Batsman of all times, the fearless opening batsman of all times and the bestest commentator of all times and the most witty and most knowledgeable commentator of all time,
Sunil Gavaskar
Also
Late Tony Greig
Late Vijay Merchant
Richie Benaud
Anand Setalvad
Geoff Boycott
We watch the cricket match on Television for listening to Sunil Gavaskar’s commentary, comments and his cricket expertise and his cricketing technique , wittiness and knowledge and his after match expert comments , and not so much or not always for the cricket match itself
Gavaskar was quite good in the 90s but he didn't move with time....he's crap now
Manjrekar too- good in his initial days but crap now
Tony Greg and co were my childhood.
Ian Smith, Bishop etc have been my early adulthood.
The worst. Botham. Mind you, Peter "there or thereabouts" West was pretty dreadful.
HB is the legend 🫡
The hardest thing about rating TV commentators is that they tended to improve over time, and their performance was often affected by the how they were managed and who they had to work with. There is also the issue of personal likes and dislikes. A couple of the commentators mentioned, who are well liked, I have to turn off they grate so badly with me.
A good point mentioned is that the production team needs to have the courage to bring commentators up to standard no matter how good their reputation is. There are a number of commentators that seem to think that having a chat about anything that amuses them is good enough, with too much discussion of their personal lives.
talk about funny commentators ... Navjot singh sidhu had his moments., besides him all the rest of the indian commentators are shiite
My Dream Team : Benaud, Ian Chappell, Mikey Holding, Bill Lawry, Mark Taylor, Kerry O’Keefe, Michael Atherton, Ricky Ponting, Harsha Bhogle
Currently, Ian Smith, Ian Bishop, Nasser and Atherton.
Bring back the "Players Comfort Meter".
As a relatively novice observer of cricket commentators, I have to agree that Ian Bishop is brilliant, and does also have a fantastic voice. I’ve learned more about the game listening to him than from any other source. His fellow former West Indian star, Curtly Ambrose, is also highly entertaining to listen to and also very informative.
Listening to the radio and TV commentary for the past 50 years. The incessant yakking Sanjay Manjrekar is the worst TV commentator ever. Sanjay, keep aside your ego and please go away and never return.
Richie Benaud. End of story!
Ian Chappell for content
Bill tony Richie bishop Atherton Nicholas harsha. That’s my dream panel
Hey blokes, who do you think would watch your dream commentary team on today's TV which is International by the way..
Who cares about the commentary? I can see what's going on on field. Sure it's needed if you're listening on the radio, not t.v. Some of these commentators run away with their own importance. You are not important. In fact, you are often redundant. The players are the stars, not the talking heads.
Not even a mention about Ian Smith from New Zealand ( England win by the barest of margins)
Totally useless vlog this is!
Used to love the dulcet tones of David Gower, the niggle between Bill and Tony, and the gentlemanly voice of Harsha Bohgle.
Michael holding Mike atherton mark waugh Ian bishop nasser Husain
Harsha Bhogle and Richie Benaud needs to be the top of every list
I was happy with this conversation until Shastri came into the picture. Yuck.
Missing days of geoffry boycott on the mic and honest criticism.. nowdays commentators have become cheerleaders
Isa Gua was and remains a diversity hire. She talks in cliche and rarely makes any statement outside of the obvious. She is clearly much more at home talking about women's cricket, a subject which she actually has knowledge on.
To me best commentary from Richie Beanio and mark nichlols Tony and Boycott
Any list without Benaud automatically makes your opinion invalid
I am absolutely shocked that the West Indies' very best commentator was not even considered in your conversation.
There was nobody better than Tony Cozier. Nobody!
Roger
It’s the same reason they don’t mention Henry Blofeld, Christopher Martin-Jenkins, John Arlott, Fred Trueman, Jim Maxwell or Jonathan Agnew
You’ve got to have Richie Benaud to say ‘g’morning everyone’
I am really astonished to see Tony Cozier left out.
Where is Navjot Sidhu!!!!!!!!!! Argh you are missing comedy gold!!!!!!
Tony Greg and Nasser Hussain and the GOAT commentators
